    38 years! I was done with the politics after 23. Also started in the age of revolvers. Was blessed that my dept. didn't fall in the gluuck trap. Over 20 years with a West German Sig P226. I was able to carry a Detonics and Colt Officers while in plainclothes during the revolver age though. Been in love with compact 1911's ever since.

      Henry, when my department switched to the Glock in 1988, I wrote an extensive brief suggesting that those of us in the instructor cadre evaluate a variety of pistols. However, the UnderSheriff had recently won a Glock, so you know the decision was a done deal. But after I put 500 rounds through the G17, I was okay with the selection. It was accurate and 100% reliable - providing it wasn't limp-wristed. After I retired, however, that Kimber Ultra Carry 3" .45 got me to recall how much I loved my Colt Lightweight Commander from the '70s, thus starting my 1911 addiction.

    Nice pistols but I prefer the commander variant. The perfect 1911 is a CCO in my opinion

      @RidersRange  4 года назад +1

      A.K., the CCO (Commander upper on an Officer lower) is probably the best all-around carry 1911. We did a couple in .45, and our next three videos in this series will be 9mm 1911s with Officer frames and uppers from 4” down to 3.5”.

      Rider's-Range great! I can’t wait to see the next videos. I really like a CCO aluminum frame in 9mm

    When it comes to 3” 1911/1911-ish pistols, I reach for my Sig P938. I’ve owned one for the past 5 years, and it’s a joy to shoot and carry. My P938 has front strap checkering, but not all models do. The lack of a grip safety doesn’t bother me on the 938, but I’m traditional enough to need one on a real 1911. Thanks for Sharing! It’s always great to watch your videos. 👍👍👍👍

      Frank, have you checked out the video where we put a Kimber Micro 9 up against a Kimber Ultra Carry II 9mm? We’ll be putting the Micro 9 up against the Sig P938 in a month or so. We will also be doing a video on 4 Micro .380s.
      Again, thanks for watching and for commenting.

    Nice thorough review, thank you.
    I love my 3" Pro Series. I have all sizes in the scandium frame. Carry the commander in the winter and the officers in the summer.
    The fill size 1911PD with rail has house duty along with other 45s ;)
    I qualified Expert with the 1911 in the NAVY and continue to love that gun.
    I have revolvers and strickers but the 1911 is my favorite. They just feel great in my hands and I shoot them well.

    The best review I've seen yet on the Kimber Ultra Carry II. I have one on order and pick it up on 12/17/2021. I've had a Kimber CDP II full size in 45 acp since 2005. Love it. Thank you and Merry Christmas.

      Stinger45, thanks for watching. I passed both my Kimber Ultra pistols (.45 and 9mm) to my daughter and she really likes them, particularly the .45. I'm sure you'll like yours. Thanks for watching and Merry Christmas to you and yours.

    Great video. “These light weight 45s can be a challenge to shoot…” You nailed it for sure. I have the Colt Defender version of the Kimber. Fortunately I have the 9mm version as well.

    Just found this and I'm in agreement with all you shared. I've carried the ultra carry ii for over a year I was a little disappointed with the recoil spring(Kimber says under 1k rounds),
    mine lasted about 3K . While waiting for the springs to come in I started to carry the SW1911 Pro Series. They both are great shooters... I'm still partial to the Kimber.

      J Aragon, my daughter has already laid claim to my Ultra Carry II 9mm, and maybe even my .45. I have more than 3,000 rounds out of each gun on the original springs, with no issues. However, I will replace the springs before I give the guns to her.
      Thanks for watching and for commenting.

      Everyone says, “Kimber says under 1k rounds”. That’s NOT true! I just read the manual and it specifically says 1500.

    Kimber is a great choice to carry. I have the ultra .45, 9 and 380. I have a variety of pistol firearms and my edc is the taurus GX4....my thought is....if I ever have to defend myself and actually fire my weapon and or disable someone, guess what ....your $900 weapon is gone, I had my SFA xds confiscated just for an altercation with a jug head and the law took my weapon. I almost didnt get it back....smh! Lot of paperwork and had get 3 signatures before released back to me 7 months later...if had been my GX4 or G2C, I wouldve just kissed that $300 bye..lesson learned

    Holster wear is character. Do you break the edges of your G10 grips or leave them aggressive.

    • @RidersRange
      @RidersRange  4 года назад

      John, after wearing through several summer shirts, I’ve started breaking down the texture on the right lower edge, but leaving the rest of the grip surface aggressive.

      treesablowin, the 1911 is my favorite pistol, so I actually considered that as a channel name, but I’ll be doing lots of guns other than 1911s. There are only four more parts to this series, but I’ll also be doing short(er) vids on a couple of Wilsons (certainly not within our definition of “affordable”) and I’ll follow the series with some 1911 wanna-be pistols.
      As always, thanks for watching and for commenting.

      I have some 185gr .45ACP SuperVel from "back in the day", and shot a lot of them in my old Colt LW Commander way back when. Maybe I should dig them out of the ammo safe and try them again. Thanks for watching.

    Great channel! I’m glad I came across it. Just subbed. Love the video and your series on the 1911 really is second to none. I have never seen one more thorough yet interesting.
    Quick question to someone who is truly an expert with the platform. If you could only buy one compact lightweight 1911 for carry $1,000 or less (used or new), what would it be (or maybe top 5)? Thanks in advance for your opinion.

    • @RidersRange
      @RidersRange  4 года назад +1

      Sean, thank you very much for your kind comments. Picking just one is somewhat like picking your favorite child. Okay, maybe not that bad, but close. After I conclude the series I plan to announce my top two carry and top two (or more) range 1911s, but for a hint, a Dan Wesson ECO is in a holster on my hip as I am typing this. The ECO lists new for just a hair more than $1,600, but they occasionally show up used for under $1,000. I paid $1,000 for one and $800 for another, but it took almost a year of constant and patient searching to find those deals. Parts 21 and 22 in this series - to be released in the next couple of months - will show a couple of very nice compact 1911 9mm pistols for well under $1,000.

    I know this video is a couple years old, just curious how are you still liking the Kimber? I recently picked up a .45 acp Ultra Carry II in the all stainless steel finish (matte silver). I have not had a chance to shoot it yet. Some people where telling me there may be concerns about failure to feed and failure to eject with this particular pistol. They mentioned magazines as one of the culprits, So I purchased a couple Kimber Pro-Tac Magazines which seem to be of better quality than the single magazine that came with the pistol. Just curious as to your thoughts. Thanks for the series of videos, great stuff !

      Ac Me, thanks for watching. I still like Kimbers and believe they are generally good value for the money. I still have 12 Kimbers (including a couple Micros and a K6 revolver) after giving two Kimber Ultras to my daughter. I have had to break a couple of them in, taking no more than 200 rounds. After that, I haven't had any serious issues, though I generally use Wilson or Tripp Research Cobra mags, rather than any Kimber mags.

    The Smith & Wesson Pro is far superior to the Kimber Ultra. Kimber is plagued with QC issues, and never got the recoil assembly right for 3" guns. The Smith & Wesson's external extractor is one of the components that allow for a much better running 3 in .1911 pattern gun.

      Thanks for watching and offering your opinion. Admittedly, my comparison in that video is a sample of one of each, so my experience may be different. However, I have several thousand rounds through each gun and I have found them to be equally reliable. And maybe my experience goes against the Internet mainstream, but with well north of a dozen Kimbers, I haven't had any performance or reliability issues.
