  • YYZ was yet another challenge to play. It took a few takes to get it right but I think I pulled it off pretty close. The drum mix is improving a little bit with every song. Thanks for watching. Enjoy!

    YYZ, crazy name for an awesome song! You are such an amazing drummer Adam!

      it is the Toronto Airport code. They heard it coming in on a small plane as a Morse code sound (it is also a beacon). Neil thought it had a good rhythmic quality to it. Geddy and Neil then created a song around it and then guitar was added

    YYZ is the IATA airport identification code of Toronto Pearson International Airport, near Rush's hometown. The band was introduced to the rhythm as Alex Lifeson flew them into the airport. A VHF omnidirectional range system at the airport broadcasts the YYZ identifier code in Morse code. Peart said in interviews later that the rhythm stuck with them. Peart and Geddy Lee have both said "It's always a happy day when YYZ appears on our luggage tags."

    Fantastic as usual! How are you learning the sticking patterns...watching videos, Rush drum books, figuring them out on your own, etc?

    • @adamjohnston2311
      @adamjohnston2311  4 года назад +3

      Thanks Mike. Learning the stick patterns of Neil is done by listening to the music over and over, and then pausing and breaking it down. I get close but i'm sure I'm missing a ton of what Neil actually does. But it's just for fun and a creative outlet. I really stopped playing for about 10 years and i'm just now starting to get my stride back. Thanks again for watching. More to come!

    I have to ask again..where have you been all this time? Who knew that a drummer at the top of his game was out there..with the spirit and drumming capability of the master..i can't tell you how much i appreciate your videos. What's great, is that you show many angles....much easier to see what your doing...some guys just have top views..you really make it seem effortless, but we know, of course that it is not!..bravo

      Thank you so much for your kind words. It means so much to me. It has been a blast making these videos and re-learning this great music 30 years later. It is quite a challenge getting to duplicate what Neil does. It get close but not Neil. LOL! Thanks again for watching.

      ADAM JOHNSTON the pleasure is all mine purely amazing..I’m actually coming back from a very long hiatus of drumming for a hobby...I can’t imagine even reproducing portions of these songs! Ur timing is unbelievable and impeccable. You are keeping Neil’s spirit alive and again, I can’t tell u how much I enjoy these..my ear is not as keen as yours and now I’m actually learning what the true sticking is on many of his songs!

      @adamjohnston2311  3 года назад +1

      I use to do 5 hour shows but that was about 15 years ago. LOL! Could I do it today. Probably could do it today if it was well rehearsed.

    For all Americans, it is pronounced YYZed. Don't worry, we say Zee Zee Top.
