    As a sim racer who has been struggling with seat position mounting brakets, i found this video riveting!!!

    As an American getting into Australian Supercars, I’m loving the fact that you have a lot of videos showing how these cars are built. Hopefully one day I’ll be able to visit your shops in person.

    Wow the seat & mounting brackets on my sim rig are way more robust the the one in the 94 car. Thankfully they are so much safer today. What a fantastic insight into the evolution of the engineering in a race seat. Not something that you think about all that often until you put your bum in one. I hope you will have some video of the 12 hour prep & stuff. Good luck in the race.

    Great video man.
    We have certainly come a long way from the very early days when they figured it was safer not to use seat belts and get thrown from the car.
    Anyhoo thanks for sharing.

    I love this little yellow shameless plug, is it real robotic arm from automation solutions or just a toy model? Love the series, being from Europe I didn't have a chance to see what level of engineering goes with Australian super cars, always loved that they mandated to run spool not a lsd diff.

    Very interesting, I wonder when the hans device was introduced and when/if the seat design around the head and shoulders was built to accommodate or was a precursor to the Hans being invented?

    • @perkinsengineering
      @perkinsengineering  2 года назад

      HANS device came along about 2004 in Supercars. Seats didn’t change much specifically for the HANS

    • @BMC1100
      @BMC1100 2 года назад +2

      The change from a 3 inch belt back to a 2 inch over the shoulders was to do with HANS.

    Jack, it's also worth mentioning the current Safety cell being used in Gen 2 and 3. Also when you track your restorations, do you need a current date stamped seat? Or can you use the old seats?

    • @perkinsengineering
      @perkinsengineering  2 года назад +1

      The current set-up is what's in the HRT car, shown third in that video. The Race Tech seat which is used with leg protection. The only cars that ran Safety Cells were Erebus cars and they changed to Racetech seats this year as the date finally ran out on the e-cells. With regards to the restorations it depends what you do with them, if you're restoring to sit in a museum then you can do anything you like, if you want to race them then there will be various safety standards the seats and belts will need to meet.

    Hi Jack. What is the bottle inside the '94 car that is located in the passenger rear door? Speaking of bottle, perhaps you could do a video on the different water bottles that are used in the different cars.

    • @burnsiet
      @burnsiet 2 года назад +2

      I am pretty sure it is the windscreen washer bottle.

    • @perkinsengineering
      @perkinsengineering  2 года назад

      The white bottle mounted to the inside of the left rear door is the front windscreen washer bottle fluid. The red one behind the drivers seat is for the drivers drinking water. Yep, we were thinking of an episode of the wider interior once the the earlier cars are complete.

    Bloody hell, didnt Larry learn anything from the Earnhardt fatality. The only car with sensible harness mounts is the VF. The others?? dumb!! They will submarine you under the belts and stretch big time. I worked this out 30 years ago. The HANS belts?? are they really as strong. Many doubt it!
    Though in FIA belts 2" is all you could get until the early 2000s. 3" spreads the load better. And the HANS will bruise you badly. Collarbones?
    The solid mounts at the back of the seat are good and bad. Having the seat flex to absorb some impact is preferable if you get hit from behind or back into something. I have been there!! And while sore I drove home from the track. I have used my own seat moulds for 30 years and yes they are fibreglass with some aluminium glassed into the mounting points.With those solid mounts you would be in hospital. In a side on accident it is probably better. as the seat back does not move, Though then ribs etc? I have seen alloy speedway seats bent around the shoulder high mounts

    • @perkinsengineering
      @perkinsengineering  2 года назад

      Well, to be fair, these belts were set-up long before the Earnhardt tragedy, but clearly over time the belts have improved along with the mounting.
