    Leather care is often times over complicated by some and as a professional detailer I want to try to help simplify leather care for those that are new or struggling with maintaining leather seats. First and foremost comes the reality that most “leather” is RARELY REAL leather (unless you have King Ranch style leather seats in which case you want to use warm water and Johnson & Johnson Baby Shampoo to clean with and a good conditioner after). Most “leather” has a plastic coating on it that really won’t benefit from thick lotions or conditioners (at least the first few years of your leathers life) - plus they make clean seats look greasy and streaky. So rather than waste money on thick conditioners, invest in safe cleaners that won’t strip that plastic coating off and protect with either a non greasy protectant (heck, even a spray wax or detailer would be sufficient!) or an interior ceramic.

    I was recommended Lexol clean and conditioner by a detail veteran and it worls wonders. I wouldnt say its the steongest stuff out there but definitely not the weakest either. As far as conditioner goes, i was taught that there should be some absorbing properties to the "leather" so when conditioning, you layer it on in increments and once the "leather" is no longer able to absorb the conditioner then you know its fully conditioned. Its worked for me with all the seats and other leather parts ive cleaned and conditioned.

    What people don't realize is most "leather" seats have a coating on them. This coating protects the leather. So putting leather cleaner on top of a leather coated basically in a layer of plastic doesn't actually soften leather or clean it. More expensive cars like Ferrari, Rolls Royce, Lambo's and such, use "Real" leather with no "coating" on them. These cars are cleaned in a much different way than the leather in your Honda Accord.

    Chelsea - you never disappoint with knowledge and real advice. Agree 100% on everything you said. Conditioners etc are also real dirt magnets. What I would recommend - since you also like real leather coatings - is to try ARTDESHINE INTERIOR. It is breathable, gives a very nice deep matte look, and protection for at least 1 year. Now this is the part where it really differs from other similar ceramic coatings - it is NOT slick and that is on purpose. Unlike others it will not make your steering wheel and seats slidey - it retains the grip and texture so even with spirited driving your body will not slide and your steering wheel will be safely in your hands. Give it a try - I think you will love it :)

    Thank you for this video! I recently bought a Jeep Gladiator with White/Grey leather seats. I am worried about denim staining showing up as it gets older. What would u recommend to use for weekly and long term usage. From your video I thought so the DIY detail or turtle wax but I agree with you and like the matte finish. I just want to maintain them and help keep them in good condition and prevent early wear.

    • @attention2detailswchelsea
      @attention2detailswchelsea  3 месяца назад

      If cleaning weekly the Turtle wax inside job would work well to clean and condition lightly but if you’re gonna keep up with it I’d use the diy interior ceramic and maintain with their clean and protect or TW inside job

    steam-cleaning leather seats is SO MUCH EASIER than all this scrubby-scrubby. Steam cleaners also have nozzles that act like an air gun and blast the dirt out of the seams too.

    • @attention2detailswchelsea
      @attention2detailswchelsea  3 месяца назад +1

      You have to be careful with steam and leather can it can melt or burn the coating especially on cheaper leather so yes it can be helpful but with caution

      @@attention2detailswchelsea so far so good. I saw another car guy (possibly Car Craft auto) steam clean a seat and pull out a temperature-reader and he said it's fine as long as you keep it moving. I will say it's a frigging fast way to clean a seat (and blast the dirt out of the seams)
