That Mike that was very useful, for everyone who says that the shaft doesn't matter. I was surprised that your numbers were so good with the Alta shaft, it was interesting to see how you reacted to it. It just goes to show how much of a "timing device" the shaft actually is👍
I am leaning to the Tensei Orange as well.... Check their website for the specs on the flex / gram and how Ping classifies the launch. Very interesting. I plan to get fitted on a monitor just to be sure. I suspect Michaels CB was a bit heavier than he realized. His numbers make sense with his swing speed at around 65 gm not 55 gm. :)
I too ordered a G425 (Max) with the Tensei. 'Tried the CK orange in a G410 at the end of December and it felt great. The Alta feels stiffer to me, and I had the Tour 65 in my G400 LST and... well, that was NOT the combination for me.

@@kennykoalabear yes 💯. The G425 is the heaviest head in the industry. So it makes sense to have a Counter balanced shaft to “lighten” up the feel of the club.
Great, great review and very informative. Please do this comparison for all the stock shaft option offerings as new drivers come out, the information is invaluable to us mere mortals. The Alta CB is a real surprise
Have the g410 and have swapped the shafts around from tensi orange and tour s. Find the same thing with tour stiff just don't get the carry but more roll. Thought the alta 55 s was too whippy when tried bit might have to give it another shot..
I tried all the shaft options in my 410 fitting a year ago and as a 98 mph swinger, the Alta 55 was the best and most consistent in all metrics. May go back in to see how I react to the lighter shaft 🤔
This is really helpful, thanks! I just picked up the G425 LST w/the Tour 65 X at Roger Dunn this week. It bombs when struck well, but am thinking of exchanging for the Max in the Tensei AV Orange 65, for better consistency & forgiveness.
Hi Michael, would The Ping Tour 65g have performed better if you added a little loft? What about if it was a stiff rather than an X flex? Just interested to know.
I have the 410Max with the tour shaft, stiff flex, and I hit it very high and straight. It was the only shaft where the dispersion was minimal and consistent distance. However, I do a very tight grip so it played well with that. I'm probably losing some yardage but would rather have a higher percentage being in the fairway consistently.
Thanks Michael, as usual, very good stuff. I’m hearing that of all the recent Ping drivers this one requires more firing/testing to unlock the potential.
Interesting review Michael. I.was surprised that the CB 55 performed so well in your hands, at your speed. As a senior with 85/90 mph I may try the Distanza also. Thanks.

Great video. I ordered the G425 9 degree Max with the Tensei 65g X -- happy to see the comparison. I've hit the 55g Alta and the 70g Rogue White. The Alta was launching a bit high for my liking due to the lightweight shaft and the Rogue White was a tad stiff for me. SS: 112-114, Ball Speed: 162-168. Hitting the Max with the weight in draw setting, what's everyone else's set ups looking like?

Michael, just found your video and really enjoyed it. Can you possibly expand on the PING Alta CB 55 Slate with regular versus soft regular stiffness. I am currently hitting a G425 SFT (hosel set at +1) with a PING Alta CB 55 Slate regular stiffness. I do not feel I am getting the distance I should (I have a slow (85-90 club head speed due to limited mobility), and only reach 190-210 yards including the roll(s) (which is only 10-15 yards) further than my 1993 Big Bertha Warbird. I hit fairways about 65-70% of time, but lose strokes per round due to short drives off the tee. I am trying to use Toptracer on the range to measure differences in the various hosel adjustments. Is the head 10.5? Whats your distance with 3 wood and are you consistantly hitting the sweet spot on your driver as that makes heaps of difference. I suggest experimenting using a launch monitor. Attach angles, swing path, spin rates etc..
