That's what you're supposed to do. The real benefit was having the in-house dyno to see the difference. So many people just throw a bunch of parts on their car at once and expect them all to work seamlessly. Thankfully, he only did the two mods and started with the easier one to change back.
I know, one year later. I knew a guy I worked with, bought MSD wires for a 2002 Camaro SS he bought, pretty much brand new. He said the car was running real funny, gas mileage went down, felt down on power. I told him to go back to last thing he did to the car, so he put the factory wires back on. Car was back to normal again. I just put some Granatelli's on my 2000 Camaro SS to replace my 154,000 mile originals. No problems, just wanted to change them. Put in iridium's too. Factory wires ohmed at 340-370 ohms. Granatelli's ohmed at .001-.002 ohms!!!!! Car seems to run smoother, start easier. MSD wires are garbage for some strange reason, don't get that at all, but they are. They will make your car slower. Think they ohm higher than the factory wires also. Probably gonna use the Airforce when I finally do my way overdue mods. I am out.
Thats crazy the wires did that, I wonder if they were faulty.. I wish they woulda put a new set of MSD's on to figure that out... Or is that what you guys did, or did you use stock wires.... I really would like to know. Thanks
You should check out the resistance on both sets of wires. I've had brand new wires from "reputable" manufactures that had over 3 times the resistance as the old wires I took off the car. Just remember that next time you're swapping ignition wires. Always check the resistance first. If your ignition wire resistance is greater than 1K ohms per foot, then forget about them for any high performance application. Honestly, I would feel way more comfortable with 500 ohms or less per foot, especially in boosted applications.
I’ve always been a pretty firm believer at running oem ignition components on newer vehicles. Most of the time you’re going to get the best of reliability and power with them. I’ve got an 01 Sierra that a shop installed a prestolite wire set and ngk g-power plugs and the truck lacked power, lost fuel economy, and didn’t idle as smooth.
100% positive that's the dirtiest Corvette I've ever seen, except for the one that was in the movie 'Corvette Summer' after the chase scene with the Trans Am. LOL!
Factory Plug Wires for the win. Never use anything different. Don’t you know what MSD stands for: My Spark Disappeared Manifold looks like it works but their wires will never see anything from my shop again. Great test CSP. Keep up the good work.
I just checked my MSD wires ( similar 8.5 super conductor) on my silverado ( new in nov 2017 ) and my kooks headers have dry rotted and cracked the spark plug boots ( even with a fiberglass heat sleeve ) causing a misfire when I go through automatic car washes. Maybe I should revisit the Dyno now since I just did a retune on Friday.
After talking with a few car friends about this I have to wonder if the set of wires you had were by chance faulty ?? Sure wish you would have tried another set of them to be sure because there are way too many racers running them with complete satisfaction, hmmm.My Vette runs superb since changing to them is all I can say
What hp did the C7 make after you got around to tuning it? Did you contact MSD as to their plug wires actually de-tuning the car? Nice that you now do a car wash for your customers. 😎
really unless they send the set back its waste...couldve been a single cracked boot arcing off somewhere and losing a little bit off one cyl but without the wires who knows
Not quite. Proper dyno is with hood closed. You do not drive with hood open so why dyno that why. It serves only the power you make sitting still in a parking lot meet with the hood open.
I like your videos. You change parts, then run on Dyno to see how much each mod produces, even if there is a power loss, then figure out why. Good stuff !!!
It would be awesome if you guys put the dyno numbers Big on the screen. Because when I’m watching I tend to be doing other things and when I glance up from across the room it’s hard to see. That’s just my two cents.
Guys, did these 460whp with MSD are with a tune or without a tune ? the A/F ratio seem very good for me if it's without tuning.... I'n gonna install the exact same mods on my C7 GS and am afraid of running lean with these mods without a tune (AFE CAI / MSD Intake / ARH Long tube headers), tune that I was planning to do shortly after... If these A/F numbers are without tune, then everything will be fine....
I've had similar experiences with aftermarket plug wires. Remember when the older 5.7 Vortecs wouldn't run on anything but AC delco distribitor caps and wires. We also had a 2006 GTO with LS2 an the guy said that it was missing or running bad and all he had done was change the plugs. Lol it only had 10k on it and so I ripped those plugs out and it turned out he put Bosche +4 in there. Lol. AC delco which I think some are made by Denso, Denso or NGK is all I run.
I did some googling, so these are spark plug wires? Why would they gain power in the first place? Sorry, I don’t do much modding and I’ve never heard of these types of mods for my coyote. Is this push rod stuff normally?
Why wouldn't it lose power they are meant to carry a hotter spark so you would have to change the coils to see real results. Kind of like a built motor with a stock trans & rear end sounds good but not really going anywhere right?
Crazy!! I'd have never guess the wires would lose power like that! but i know guys making 3500hp use 8mm wires, not msd brand! so you don't need big wires to make 1000hp! all car companies are getting good with their stock parts, along with tuning, you can't pickup 10-30 hp with just a tune anymore :'(
So that 428 in the biginning was only with the afe intake ?? Strange ! First I read headers and x pipe and now only headers ? Kooks Headers and x pipe made only 10 rear wheel is not much …. 🤨 strange
Complete Street Performance yeah very true, sucks because the stock wires are very close to the headers, only reason why I went with MSD 😭. Do you think if you tuned it with the wires you would of gained that power back?
Well ya of course your not just going to turn off lean codes your going to try to tune it if not tell them they need bigger injectors or fuel pump or both and finish tuning it that does not even make sense
Now I’m concerned I’m leaving power on the table..... 2016 camaro ss I have headers full exhaust E85 rotofab intake a tune and MSD plug wires!!! Making 436 hp and 449 tq Wondering if I should put the stock plugs back in??
justin timberlake no just stock wires from GM new wires and then get retuned might have more spark afterwards sparkplugs leave alone you have those for e85
How are engine internals going to be damaged? Unless it's not tuned properly? Obviously they're watching the air-fuel mixture and anything else that might be an issue.
@@rockroll9513 Do you not know what ethanol is? Its sugar grain alcohol. That sugar eats all rubber. @@mhautovlgs6957 you probably don't know what you're doing. Huge waste of money. The only way to see good power gains is through power adders. Turbo, procharge, nitrous. People spend so much money on crap that adds 10hp. Lol.
Well, some of the "crap" that adds 10 hp is going to yield you far greater numbers one you start pushing more air and fuel through your engine. That's also one reason why it's best to have both a short and long term plan when doing mods. Also, it's not just peak power gains but how much you make across the entire power curve.
Love the way you stayed and deduced the issue instead of throwing money at it. Great problem solving.
