He brings a keyboard sensibility to fretboard performance. Years of classical piano lessons informed his style as much as rock & roll ever did. His keyboard licks on JUMP reflect same style of finger motion as he applies to tapping.
I’d say that ‘I’ll Wait’ is a bit more related to his guitar playing style than Jump. He did have a real distinct keyboard style though, and he doesn’t get enough credit for that.
@@KBizzy similar presentation of keys-synth in both songs... sounds like the same chordal progression too, in one portion. Both compositions come from an identical inspirational source. Same vibe in many respects.
Thanks for uploading this Mike. I’m reading some of the comments and I can’t get over some of the morons trying to criticize his performance. Some people don’t understand the difference between playing professionally and just having fun and jamming in the back yard at a party. poor Ed, not the video I choose to remember him by. So glad he got clean and well again. Miss him so much, I will think of him everyday
No one could play like this. He’s obviously high as a kite, loving it and playing unbelievable music.
Got a guitar when I was 19 years old because of kurt cobain learned the whole nevermind album in a couple months was jamming to nirvana and my older brother came In my room and said learn some halen eruption pussey of course i didnt have the skills and forgot about it finally learned it on my 45th birthday rest In peace eddie thanks man
The singer looks like the “It’s Ma’am” guy that trashes the store when the clerk calls him “sir.”
Dlr
Hilarious...
Lol
Hahahaha
Hahahahahahaha!
Eddie was MASTER of any guitar he picked up!!
Skill, talent, balls and a great stage presence.Thank you soon mutch for showing this.RIP Eddie,we love you and will miss you forever.
Ed was having a blast at his own backyard party.....right back where it all began.....the backyard party scene in the Los Angeles area in the 70s.....
The Best Ever ROCK Guitar Player. Mr. EDWARD VAN HALEN. 🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🎸
The best there is. The best there was. The best there ever will be!!!!!
Dam rite Chuck. Absolutely.
He is the excellence of execution on guitar
@@morningstar577 you must know who brett hart is to...lmao
Eddie shure knew how to have a great jam 🎸 session. Great improv with delay, flanger, reverb and volume control! Thanks for posting this video! Edit- and wah pedal.
A million thumbs up !!!!! One of my favorite , if not the favorite of Eddie playing !!!! Just rippin' and having fun .....It just flows out of him.... R.i.P. my friend .... WY too soon.....
He's in freaking slippers and is jamming his ass off how casual can you get!great stuff
EVH just have a blast on the stage , if only there where more like this man the music would be different....
an understatement.
Saw Eddie 2 times. The rest of my life changed. I cant bear with the sadness that he is gone. Thank You for influencing the world!
I remember those years Ed really hit rock bottom. His drinking was at its peak and he was dis shoveled and a mess at events like the NAMM show and others. In the years after he really cleaned up his act was looking and sounding great. RIP EVH. Still the undisputed King.
Just to let you know, it's disheveled, not dishoveled.
Thanks for sharing,he didn't have to even play a song, the solos were enough for me. Just love seeing he was a legend til his last breath🎼🎸🔊🎶🎵🎶🎵 Thanks for Incredible music you left for us,and being a Huge part of my childhood and adulthood. R I P Eddie, love you man.
Looks like Brian Tichy on drums to me. The way he slams his hats and cymbals gives it away. On a serious note I would have given my left Ball to be at that party... If music was ever a living breathing person it was Edward and Alex!!
That's two people.
EVH playing while hammered sounds like me playing sober
@@daddymidwest4111 Stoned more like!
Gotcha chief
Yeah me too except he’s in key while I’m landing the sour notes! Lol
He was the party band. This is how it all started. Great seeing he was able to relive the early days with a private party.
He was such a bad ass! He sure could make guitars sing. The BEST!!
It's his house, so he gets to solo through the whole song...
Truly the best player ever and he always had fun doing it.
Thank you Eddie for all the beautiful music and good times!
Man I can't even imagine being at a private party with EVH. I would be on cloud 9 for weeks after.
I would be on cloud 90❗️#EVH4EVER
I'd like to see Eddie and Steve Stevons play together!!!!
Weeks????? Slacker!
@@cheryljimenez8963 There used to be a video of that on RUclips. A NAMM show with Tom Bogert of Beck, Bogert and Appice.
@@arthowardatnight thank you!!
This is when Eddie’s drinking was on 11👍🏻🎸🎶
Eddie drunk shredding on the guitar at a private party is EXACTLY how I want to see Eddie. Eddie rules.
“Are you having fun!” Yes Eddie, we had huge fun with you over my lifetime, how we do miss you!
Even in his darkest days...man..I always loved him and always will.
I love you Ed
EVH was one of a kind...RIP💖🎶💖
R.I.P Eddy. And thank you for sharing your immense talent, and for changing the guitar player and manufacturing community for the better! You will be missed. Say hello to Jimi, Stevie, and the rest for us. I want to reserve a seat in advance for that inevitable concert event. Peace and be safe to all!
Magical.The embodiment of a guitar virtuoso!!🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸♥️💜💙💛💚❤️
The ONE AND ONLY, Edward Van Halen! no one Better! RIP Eddie, We ALL miss your smile.
Rip Eddie......you lived a life many people wish they could have......that includes myself. Thanks for sharing your talent and all your contributions to Rock n roll!!!!! WE MISS YOU!!!!💙💔
Eddie could sure smoke it...damn..he was sooo good.
I really do miss watching him play.
I don’t even care that he’s waisted.
I will always love and respect him for what he did for music and guitar players everywhere.
💯💯💯💯💯🤟🏽🤟🏽🤟🏽🤟🏽🤟🏽
I find myself always coming back to this video.... its Raw Eddie..... having fun. R.I.P. Eddie!!
I heard some kid naned spicoli blew One million to have him play at this party!
The character of Jeff Spicoli, played by the actor Sean Penn, was from the 1982 movie "Fast Times at Ridgemont High"...
Somebody get this man a beer like RIGHT freakin' NOW!!😂😂
And Brooke Shields was forever thankful to him
"Hey Man, lets party"
Mr Hand ! Best 80s movie if you were an eighties teen. We are ever grateful Ms Phoebe Cates
This, without question, is the best RUclips vid I have seen!
"It's my party, and I'll solo if I want to, solo if I want to..."
Thanks for uploading this Mike. I’m reading some of the comments and I can’t get over some of the morons trying to criticize his performance. Some people don’t understand the difference between playing professionally and just having fun and jamming in the back yard at a party. I guarantee Eddie was having the time of his life being able to just let it all go and rock out like that. Being able to see this really lets you see some of his raw talent. Thanks again!
This was during a period when he was severely off the wagon. Some of what you're seeing and hearing is the result of the booze
@@ROOKTABULA Good for him!
Not here to start wars but truth be told i dunno what all took place since i wasn't there. If he was just messing about fun times....who hasn't jammed just to jam? On the other hand if he was two sheets to the wind and revved up on who knows what....well dont say good for him. It wasnt...not for him not for anyone else hence the reason he cleaned up big time...hell even he knew it wasn't good. That said....huge EVH & Steve Steven fan (Billy's cool too) Ed did his thing no doubt but sheeeesh clearly A. didn't know the song and just improvised willy nilly or B.just didn't give a f*ck about the song...who knows. Still good playing. RIP EVH 😢 Kinda reminds me of a resent vid where dif artist were asked to play the STH solo their way...it was dif alright.
@@ROOKTABULA Would you say this is after the tour VH did with Sammy in 2004? Before?
Exactly. This is how musicians come up with new ideas, new licks etc. just free form and break the rules every once on awhile. This was not meant to be a polished performance.
Stevie stevens has to be so happy eddie loved his 🎸 playing and just jam like a kid to his riff, that has to be a huge badge of honor, eddie loved his music.
What a gift from the gods. I feel so lucky to have seen him live. I love watching him enjoy himself without a net. We should all feel free like this.
THANK YOU FOR THIS
When you a rockstar god, you party like one ☝️ wish I was there 👏
Love you Eddie, cigarette always on the headstock, looks like he is having a blast, he had that effect on people.
Thanks for posting this Mike.
Whoever posted this..THANK YOU!!! Really great to see Eddie just being himself and having fun and not "performing"..
