By far one of the better attempts at these first-time drum writing sections. Wolfie killed it and nailed the vibe exactly. That's a songwriter as well as a drummer.
Yes! Watching it I could see the songwriter in him, the wheels spinning. He was taking all the pieces he'd been given & was thinking what would service the song, how to arrange it etc. Really great showcase to see his multiple talents.

100%! I love VH, it's part of my Soundtrack of Life™. And, while Wolf played in that band, he has his own distinct style and and sense of musicality that I would probably love his stuff even without his last name. Well done, Wolf!
Man he knew just when to give the song room to breathe and when to pop back in. Most drummers in this series play start to finish; I appreciate the restraint!
Had not previously heard of Wolf before, but I feel like his personality came across clearly in this video. Very charismatic and fun. Loved his take on the song as well.
Yes, and think like the songwriter he is, too! He writes all his own songs, besides playing all the instruments on the recordings. It really showed in this video that he was looking at the challenge from the big picture POV, not just drums.
His DAD always said Wolf was an INCREDIBLY fast learner as far back as 2006 ...& here we witness it LIVE in an UNREHEARSED situation..... Brilliant. Ed saw YEARS ahead. God love him (Paul)
he said it way before then. I used to read guitar magazine interviews with Eddie, and he was telling people how talented his son was shortly after his birth. lol
there's a very fine line between adding flavor to a song and just playing a drum solo, and he did this perfectly. added some metal flair to it just for the fun of it without doing too much, still keeping the vibe of the song. loved this!
I enjoyed the part at the end with Ashton as much as I did Wolf. Not only is the dude funny as fuck 🤣, but his running commentary tied the whole thing together in a way I haven't seen done before on this channel. Great stuff. Would love to see more of that in future vids... the original drummer commenting on the dude in the hot seat. Thanks again, Drumeo.
Wolf is quickly becoming one of my favorite musicians of all time. Saw him in concert when he was touring with A.B. Seems like a cool guy too. Much success Wolfgang.
That’s funny as hell because it was about 3:09 when I looked at the stamp and thought the same thing. He appears to have a great attitude and hasn’t gotten jaded by the business yet. Hopefully he won’t because he probably doesn’t have to ever feel the pain of being a starving artist
having the original drummer react to the drummer that covered it was an AWESOME addition to this format! I'm sure I'm not the only one that thought this. You should try and get all the original drummers to do that going forward, if you can. Thanks again for another great video!
All these people talking about “born with this” and “lucky to be genetically gifted.” Thats absolute bull shit. This man has worked his ass off to have the talent he has. Dont ever let anybody short sale you and take that away from you, Wolf. You don’t just wake up that good because of who your family is.
Yeah, talent is nothing without hardwork, and if you worked your ass endlessly even though you are not talented you still can be like those who are gifted and you probably going to be better than some of them.
HOW EVER IN THEORY AND I HAVE WITNESSED IT A FRIEND OF MINE DROVE HIS POOR WIFE INSANE BY CONSTANTLY CHASING HER AROUND THE HOUSE WITH MUSIC DAY AND NIGHT DURING HER PREGNANCY THE DOCTORS HAD TO ORDER HIM TO BACK IT OFF BECAUSE IT COULD COMPROMISE THE HEALTH OF THE BABY REST IS VERY CRITICAL IN CHILD BIRTH AS THE WOMEN EXPERIENCE VERY ERRATIC SLEEP PATTERNS BECAUSE OF THE BABY MOVEMENT IN THER WOMB. DON'T THINK WOLFIE HAD MANY FRIENDS GROWING UP OTHWER THAN THE FAMILY. BE AGREAT CONVERSATION TO HAVE WITH VAL! AND WOLFIE.
This comment should be higher. Certainly being surrounded by talented musicians is an advantage, but that just provides resources. He still had to put in the hard work to turn those resources into... this. Countless kids born into similar environments never achieve what he has, it's ridiculous to brush it off as just "luck."
He absolutely is genetically gifted. I got a drumkit too, but I can't arrange a song, or write parts or easily bang out a fill and then play it exactly the same on the spot next take. He clearly has a great musical memory to track what he's doing and arrange his playing to suit the song. I don't have that. Never had that ability. There's other things in life that I'm just naturally good at and don't have to work as hard as others at, but music is not one of them. It's certainly not crazy to think that the son of Eddie Van Halen would have a knack for musicianship.
@@Me04120 Those are all skills that can be trained. This isn't his first day playing drums or arranging music, you're not seeing all the years of him bumbling around just like everyone else at the beginning.
It is unreal how this young man could play bass, guitar, drums and hell knows how many other instruments being that good. Besides this he is nice, always smiling, humble, friendly, he really expresses happiness in such a warming way. The world definitely needs more people like Wolfgang Van Halen!
I took my daughter to see 5 SOS 2 summer's ago in Philadelphia and I was an instant fan! They are NOT a boy band, they are a 4 peice band who plays their instruments and with precision I might add! And the drummer from 5 SOS is OUTSTANDING 🥁
My wife watches baking shows with Valerie Bertinelli and she talks about her "Wolfie" all the time. His momma loves him, its sweet. He looks just like her. Killer job, Wolf.
I just love this channel. I am a middle aged- tone deaf-no rhythm mom/honey who really appreciates the talent of each one of you. I really appreciate that the musicians are willing to show their vulnerability. It is a great reminder that no one is perfect and we all have unique perspectives. Thanks for all yall do!
I've never left a comment before!, but this was something else. Those hats!!!, the interpretation (simple but so much nuance), the self-restraint to leave the space, the overall dynamic, flourishes towards the end... It's rare that a cover betters the original - but Wolf's take here with an acoustic drum sound - amazing. You've a new fan. (Ashton Irwin - I'm a fan of yours already). To the engineers at drumeo - awesome work. Drum sounds are always... perfect.
What is beautiful and very subtle on his final take is you can see him connect emotionally to the words. Thats what makes drummers beautiful musicians. The feel, the connection. Bravo!
I love how he leaves so much space open! So many of the first time listen people plays all the way through. But WVH leaves so much pauses and room for the song to breathe. I love it!
Wolfgang is on his best way of being the greatest guy in music. Few people out there so grounded and friendly, yet bursting with talent and creativity. Just awesome.
I didn’t know Wolf played all the instruments on the Mammoth stuff. This was awesome and can’t wait to see him back as soon as possible. What an engaging, fun, self deprecating and awesome dude.
I would have never given this song a second thought until Wolfgang VanHalen played it and broke it down his own way. Made me a fan of it now. Thanks Wolf and 5 seconds of Summer.
My jaw is literally on the floor! Wolf is clearly a musical savant (Damn that Van Halen blood!!!) and just seems like a fun guy to hang with AND rock out!
Met Wolf on the Metallica '72 tour. Such a humble nice guy. Spent probably 15 min with him before the show while the crew worked some technical stuff. He told some jokes, signed stuff and laughed a ton. Thanks man.
Yes indeed. Wolf totally smoked this song. He understood the big picture and had fun with the sections. Great pocket and clean fills. Adding the original drummer have his reaction was icing on the cake. A fantastic episode. Drumeo keeps getting better and better...BRAVO!!!
So happy to see Wolf here. What an unexpected treat. We, meaning my generation, grew up with his dad and uncle (and in my case saw them before they were anybody in local gigs) so it like Our little boy is all grows up. So happy to see him carrying on and expanding the legacy.
I love watching these with the daughters. Neither is a drummer but they’re both artists and they get a lot out of watching someone go through their own personal creative process. Also, Wolfgang is a monster musician. Dude just keeps getting better and better.
This is one of the best videos in this series. I'm genuinely impressed with Wolfie's musicianship. He had some great teachers to learn music from and his obvious attention to detail and understanding/sensing the depth of the music to put it all together that makes him an awesome multi-instrumentalist.
I am commenting again to explain that Wolf is exceptionally talented in every facet. Mammoth WVH instantly became by favorite band when I saw them first at an Alter Bridge concert.
He’s so freaking talented that it bleeds from his pores. Just saw him with Metallica and was so damn stoked to see Wolf play and sing. They were phenomenal! Way to go guys!
I love what you guys are doing. And I absolutely love what wolf is doing. Solidifying his own legacy while carrying on his families legacy. Absolutely awesome.
My husband and I saw Wolf for the first time Wednesday when Mammoth WVH opened for Creed and 3 Doors Down. We already liked him, his amazing musical talents, and his music, but seeing him live, blew us away! I've heard people ellude that he's only where he is because of his parents and uncle and I call absolute bull on that! He is so talented, hard working, and wise beyond his years! He oozes a quite confidence that is far from arrogant or cocky. I think people forget (or may not know) that he plays every instrument, writes and sings every song, mixes, produces...ALL of his albums. That is not something that is done very often because most can't do it. Wolf can and I am so glad he shares it with the rest of us! He does all of it and it shows because his music is incredible! He definitely turned us from casual fans to, "Ohhhhh he's near. Who's with him? Awh. doesn't matter. We're going!"" If you. Get a chance to see him live ...GO!!! On a side note: I know he loves his family, but I hope the day will come where people talk only about Wolf and his talents first and only mention the family connections as a side note. I know he really misses his Dad but it has to be bittersweet that his family (mostly Eddie) is mentioned in every other sentence. I am only child too and I lost my parents at 22 and 25. I couldn't imagine going through that, trying to deal with your own grief, but being reminded everytime you turn around that your parent isn't there. Grief will never leave, but Wolf still has a long life ahead with his beautiful wife without needing to live through Eddie's ghost in his professional life when he already is going through in his personal life.
@DomMia0320 Just a hint of irony that came to my mind from your first sentence.. I saw Creed open for VH at Madison Square Garden in 1998.. Man, time's flown by! 🎶🕊
@SpikeCutolo It sure does. I saw Creed twice before in 2001 and 2002 in my college days. They were the headliners then too. This was my husband's first for Creed but he did surprise me with tickets to Scott's solo tour this pass summer (brownie points for Hubby because the show was on my birthday). Sadly, neither of us ever got to see Van Halen. Concerts are one of our three favorite things to do. Comedy shows and cruises are the other two. We have a few musical acts and comedians that are on our list of "they are close ..we're going!" Unfortunately, we've been dealing with some major health stuff with me the last few years, so we've had to be strategic about the ones we go to....but we still try our best to go. Kind of makes us feel half way normal again. 😁
@DomMia0320 Something else you mentioned that I agree with 100% .. The constant mentioning of EVH.. I trust just by your wording we feel the same! I just watched an entire concert of WVH from a year or so back and if he gets back only half of the love, kindness, humor and appreciation that seems to radiate from him towards his audience, he should lead a well deserved happy life! (I don't care how corny I sound..lol) Anyways.. May you and yours be well! 🕊
@@SpikeCutolo I agree. It wasn't corny at all. I couldn't imagine living in the shadow of his talented family. I was glad when Mark Tremonti asked Wolf to join his band, Tremonti. I think some in the industry thought he was going to be a nepo kid, but thankfully, Mark saw pass that. I think that move made more people take notice of the possibility of a long career potential. I had watched some of the older clips (which were very good), but the in person charisma was even better. I hope you and your loved ones have a wonderful holiday season!
Holy S**T! This is as of now my fave so far. What a talent and more importantly, a all around humble nice human. While watching I was thinking exactly what Ashton said, he understands how to build parts aka-dynamics in a song. didn't overplay or underplay. Man this one was fun to watch.
I meet Wolf when he was playing bass for Tremonti in 2011/12 in London , was quite honestly one of the nicest coolest dudes! I hope he has all the success in the world! Such a talent and humble guy
Hes the only one so far that really plays to the music and nails stuff that you would never think of. Wolfie is one of the best drummers of our generation, easy.
That four in the floor section at the start and the big half time bit at the end were both pure gold. Had a big smile on the face watching it. Well done! 👌👌
This man is probably the most talented musicians I have ever seen. Seriously, he plays every single instrument and sings on his albums. No one can top that plus be a down to earth person at the same time. Love it and hope to see him on tour soon.
Wolf is the best. I am his dad's age, and when I heard his first CD, I was blown away and immediately ordered it ( I have tons of CDs but haven't bought anything new in a really long time). I wanted a physical copy of his work because this was the best new Rock music I had heard in years. Keep it up, Wolf, you make us all proud, and I'm sure your POP is looking down with pride.
I can’t get enough of these videos. Not a musician in any way, shape or form but I’m a music lover and appreciate so much the different takes all of these amazing drummers have for songs they have never heard.
I always knew he was great but in this controlled environment, he went up huge in my books!!! Bravo!!! And that smile is such a reflection of how he feels at the moment!!! He needs to do more of this, we are quite a few who want to see him play all instrument. Incredible talent!!!
Really fun episode. Wolf is a perfectionist, hence being so concerned about his performance, but eventually just lets his natural talent flow. Know him as a great musician and this just elevated it.
Truer words.... have never been said? Really...? LOL Come on, there's nothing 'dangerous' about Wolfgang Van Halen. Not said to be hateful or pissy.... its really just a fact. When a music lover lived through the 70's 80's and 90's.... you get what I mean. Wolf is a sweet nice guy... talented... but mostly average. There are 1000's of youtubers who are more 'dangerous' than Wolf.
I'm not a drummer, but I love this series. There is something super cool about watching talented people go through their process. I miss the nuance actual drummers may pick up on in the "one pass and done" sessions, so I enjoy these much more. Watching them figure it out and putting together a drum part, plus! Seeing the facial expressions of appreciation when the original artist did something cool, those are the fun things I like to see in these videos.
I feel like he's been taken for granted as in being Eddie's son and Alex's nephew, he was just "born awesome". I don't believe that. While living the rock n roll life with his family did inject in him the attitude to be where he is now, we all may be forgetting how hard he has been practicing all those instruments he plays up to this day. It's not a "talent": it's pure, persistent and relentless hard work and a responsibility he feels to do his own thing instead of resting under his dad's name, which is commendable. What a performance he did here. very good tracking. he used his production skills to mix his own drums live. You can tell by how he approached each section, experimented with them all and knew where to pull back and where to show it off.
I've personally found that learning an instrument (or anything for that matter) is more about repetition. Once you get comfortable with the basics, then you can start injecting your own rhythms, accents, phrasing, etc. Talent to me is more having a natural leaning towards something, rather than just being naturally gifted at something.
This 100%. I hate how everybody talks about him getting the talent from his dad. You get this good (on multiple instruments) from practicing & playing your ass off. There's no DNA shortcut.
great comment. in an interview after the Taylor Hawkins tribute, he discussed having to grab the CDs for the songs Dave wanted him to do, sit down and learn them note for note. the image that conjures up is a musician who works to perfect his skill and takes it damn serious. Alex's recent book "Brothers" shows the lineage and the mindset, all the way through it. Wolf's grandfather Jan, is the influence we see in all of them.
@@kevincason5309 Yes, spot on. Alex's book is very enlightening, shows real pride in musicianship, hard work & professionalism, all learned from their father & the other musicians around him. Obviously Wolf's dad & uncle modeled those lessons well for Wolf, too. And it was very noticeable during this episode that Wolf is a songwriter, not just an instrumentalist. Not all musicians compose entire songs, and Wolf very clearly approached this as a songwriter & drummer, you could see his though processes as he was working things out. It was very impressive.
He really understood the song - happy to sit out the right parts, added some nice accents, built things up really well and absolutely killed that final fill. Should come as no surprise that anyone with the Van Halen name is a great musician, but this was a treat.
Seen a lot of Wolf over the years - just had to be the best all round talented musician going around. Simply an incredible talent and just one hell of a dude. Deserves significantly more commercial recognition for his music and talent.
he's an incredible and hard working musician and singer and i was lucky enough to see him with his band live earlier this year. They sound amazing live and he's such a humble dude. Great episode🥰

Watching 5SOS playing Youngblood live is a much better drum experience than the studio version.
Ashton goes HARD when he’s performing. Definitely an experience
Definitely!! It almost sounds like a different song with how much energy Ashton puts into playing
Absolutely its an insane experience
definitely!!
5SOS is actually very tight as a live band. You can tell they've been playing together for a long time. They're good musicians.
Can we appreciate Wolfs ability to think like a producer while killing it on drums? This guy is phenomenal.
I used to read guitar magazine interviews with Eddie, and he was telling people how talented his son was shortly after his birth. lol
there's a very fine line between adding flavor to a song and just playing a drum solo, and he did this perfectly. added some metal flair to it just for the fun of it without doing too much, still keeping the vibe of the song. loved this!
Undeniable talent. Playing to the song with the perfect feel and groove.
Never enough of groove 👌
I enjoyed the part at the end with Ashton as much as I did Wolf. Not only is the dude funny as fuck 🤣, but his running commentary tied the whole thing together in a way I haven't seen done before on this channel. Great stuff. Would love to see more of that in future vids... the original drummer commenting on the dude in the hot seat. Thanks again, Drumeo.
Love Wolf's personality. His drum skill is top notch. Thank you Drumeo.
Wolf is quickly becoming one of my favorite musicians of all time. Saw him in concert when he was touring with A.B. Seems like a cool guy too. Much success Wolfgang.
I wish AB bring WVH with them when they eventually get back to Western Australia.... that would be incredible
By 3:05 I knew 3 things. This guy is a born musician and that i really like his attitude and he has to be a cool hang. Kudos man!
You should listen to his band Mammoth WVH if you haven't already. He sings and plays every instrument on the records.

Dude can sing beautifully as well
He’s a Van Halen of course he can play it all .!! Awesome dude just like his pop & uncle
He grew up learning from the best rock guitarist in the world, and arguably one of the top 5 or 10 drummers in rock. It's in his blood.
Wolf is in his early 30s
I took my daughter to see 5 SOS 2 summer's ago in Philadelphia and I was an instant fan! They are NOT a boy band, they are a 4 peice band who plays their instruments and with precision I might add! And the drummer from 5 SOS is OUTSTANDING 🥁
That final take was absolute fire .. didn’t overplay .. allowed the song to breathe. Nice job Wolf 🐺👏
My wife watches baking shows with Valerie Bertinelli and she talks about her "Wolfie" all the time.
His momma loves him, its sweet. He looks just like her.
Killer job, Wolf.
He seems like a great guy too, so it looks like they raised him well.
He looks just like her except the eyes. He’s got Eddies Asian eye shape.

Dirk will remain my favorite guest on here, but man this dude just oozes fun, talent and awesome personality! Awesome stuff!
Dude spent that entire time in the pocket, I'm so impressed. Can't imagine a better person to carry the VH legacy. Fuck yeah Wolf.
I love it!
Saw him play a few months ago in Norfolk and was blown away. This dude is so talented its crazy.
You can’t not love/appreciate this dude. Killer, Wolf!!
Wolfgang is on his best way of being the greatest guy in music. Few people out there so grounded and friendly, yet bursting with talent and creativity. Just awesome.
Well, Dave Grohl can no longer claim to be music's "nice guy", so Wolfgang has a shot!
I didn’t know Wolf played all the instruments on the Mammoth stuff. This was awesome and can’t wait to see him back as soon as possible. What an engaging, fun, self deprecating and awesome dude.
Blown away by his talent
And how chill and versatile he is
He looks up to the sky and ask
“ did you know that “
Put a smile on my face
I would have never given this song a second thought until Wolfgang VanHalen played it and broke it down his own way. Made me a fan of it now. Thanks Wolf and 5 seconds of Summer.
My jaw is literally on the floor! Wolf is clearly a musical savant (Damn that Van Halen blood!!!) and just seems like a fun guy to hang with AND rock out!
He should be ok on the drum kit.... He's been playing drums for approximately 24years
His cousin Aric was all- America in the steeplechase too!
Met Wolf on the Metallica '72 tour. Such a humble nice guy. Spent probably 15 min with him before the show while the crew worked some technical stuff. He told some jokes, signed stuff and laughed a ton. Thanks man.

He was superb! My son is a drummer and was cheering him on while watching this.
Yes indeed. Wolf totally smoked this song. He understood the big picture and had fun with the sections. Great pocket and clean fills. Adding the original drummer have his reaction was icing on the cake. A fantastic episode. Drumeo keeps getting better and better...BRAVO!!!
This is definitely my favorite episode. Wolfgang knocked it out of the park. Such superb talent as a musician, and such lovely personality.
So happy to see Wolf here. What an unexpected treat.
We, meaning my generation, grew up with his dad and uncle (and in my case saw them before they were anybody in local gigs) so it like Our little boy is all grows up. So happy to see him carrying on and expanding the legacy.
What a privilege to have EVH's son playing over your song... That must be mind blowing for 5SoS.
I love watching these with the daughters. Neither is a drummer but they’re both artists and they get a lot out of watching someone go through their own personal creative process.
Also, Wolfgang is a monster musician. Dude just keeps getting better and better.
That's lovely
This is one of the best videos in this series. I'm genuinely impressed with Wolfie's musicianship. He had some great teachers to learn music from and his obvious attention to detail and understanding/sensing the depth of the music to put it all together that makes him an awesome multi-instrumentalist.
Wolf is one of the very miniscule number of genuinely talented people in the world. Also a genuine humble person.
Major props for the Intervals shirt. Fantastic band.
this is not liked enough
Shame that not more people noticed/know of Intervals. Definitely my favorite instrumental band

I love what you guys are doing. And I absolutely love what wolf is doing. Solidifying his own legacy while carrying on his families legacy. Absolutely awesome.
Seems like the type of dude that gives a great hug.. Comes across extremely relatable.
So he’s Eddie AND Alex?! Shit is just not fair!!! Kudos Wolfgang!!!
RIGHT? 🙌🔥🔥🔥
I actually like his drumming BETTER than Alex, which might not be fair since Alex was perfect for THAT band.
Eddie / Alex / Michael / Sammy all in one lol
I love watching/ listening to WVH. He is always so friendly and talented and seems like the one hero types you definitely would happy after meeting
He should just change his entire full name to just: VAN HALEN
Wolf, is amazing. Really humble and chill guy please take his words to heart and get him back on the show!
I have watched a TON of Drumeo videos over the years but I have never subscribed...until today. Wolfgang is a real one and I'd love to be his friend.
What a great dude. So humble and insanely talented.
(I don't care how corny I sound..lol)
Anyways..
WVH is a monster, we should definetely give him more credit, the guy plays everything great
I met him during that era too. Such a sweetheart!
Hes the only one so far that really plays to the music and nails stuff that you would never think of. Wolfie is one of the best drummers of our generation, easy.
I love, love, love Wolfgang. You just know the dude is a genuine homie and a musical genius.
Honestly, the level of thoughtful restraint is genuinely impressive.
That four in the floor section at the start and the big half time bit at the end were both pure gold. Had a big smile on the face watching it.
Well done! 👌👌
The force is strong in this one...
This man is probably the most talented musicians I have ever seen. Seriously, he plays every single instrument and sings on his albums. No one can top that plus be a down to earth person at the same time. Love it and hope to see him on tour soon.
This is possibly the greatest man in music today. I don't know how you can't love this guy from a personality or talent level. Pure genius.

Wolf is such a stud. Having fun, self-deprecating, and bringing that VH swing man. Built in to the man!
I always knew he was great but in this controlled environment, he went up huge in my books!!! Bravo!!! And that smile is such a reflection of how he feels at the moment!!! He needs to do more of this, we are quite a few who want to see him play all instrument. Incredible talent!!!
I had no clue he was like the coolest, most chill, instant-friend kind of dude!
Really fun episode. Wolf is a perfectionist, hence being so concerned about his performance, but eventually just lets his natural talent flow. Know him as a great musician and this just elevated it.
In 2006, Wolfgang's Father told Howard Stern "This kid is fuckin' dangerous" Truer words have never been said 👏🏽🙏🏼
Exactly …He saw YEARS ahead. (Paul)
Truer words.... have never been said? Really...? LOL
Come on, there's nothing 'dangerous' about Wolfgang Van Halen.
Not said to be hateful or pissy.... its really just a fact.

YES! THIS IS WHAT IVE BEEN SAYING! WE NEED SOME WOLFIE!

He really understood the song - happy to sit out the right parts, added some nice accents, built things up really well and absolutely killed that final fill. Should come as no surprise that anyone with the Van Halen name is a great musician, but this was a treat.
This was easily my favorite one of these. Wolf’s a phenomenally talented musician.
Yas! First time we’ve seen someone use “rests” and “pauses” creatively! Love the creative instinct.
Seen a lot of Wolf over the years - just had to be the best all round talented musician going around. Simply an incredible talent and just one hell of a dude. Deserves significantly more commercial recognition for his music and talent.
