Scott Glen is phenomenal in everything he does, but this film was made all the better with him in it. Kurt Russell was incredible too and every since I watched him in Death Proof I’ve been a fan. I was 13 in 1991 and I didn’t get to see this film until about 10 years ago. It’s superb. Normally I don’t like films or shows that show emergency services as Hollywood gets it so wrong - I’m in the emergency services and it pisses me off. Anyway, this and Rescue Me are the only 2 that seem to get it right.

The Score of that Movie defined how 90's Blockbusters sounded and was reused on TV a lot whenever they marketed upcoming Actionstuff or wanted to have something sound dramatic for a couple of years. Funny enough the movie left almost no trace and most people probably never saw it. Maybe it was a bit unlucky that it had to compete with T2 in theatres (at least in my country).
The FX Team did a tremendous job on the Practical Effects. Everything feels super real and dangerous. CGI just can't recreate that and won't be able to for a foreseeable future.

I remember traveling on amtrack in the early 90s and coming into Chicago's union Station we would pass within feet of the old Cuneo Press Factory (the large building that was used for the external shots of this scene). It was probably 1991 or 1992, not long after filming was completed. The burnt out building was pretty cool to see, as I am always game to learn about movie filming locations. They finally imploded it in the mid 90s. And the movie they showed one of those times was.....yep...Backdraft!

At 9:06 when Brian secures the line, the look on Kurt Russell's face...his acting is immensely superb. Stephen, at 9:09, sees his brother as a real firefighter. The amount of pride he expresses in those few seconds is amazing. The way he lays back and watches Brian save HIM. Everything he tried to teach Brian finally clicked and you can see Stephen finally let go knowing their father would be proud of him. That isn't acting you can learn. Doesn’t work that way. First the flames died down because the dry chem in the extinguished. You knock the top of it’s going to act like a blown up balloon that you let go. Only way this could possible work is to keep the trigger down in some way then throwing it. 100 years ago or so they had fire extinguisher grenades which were basically a glass globe with an extinguishing agent inside

How is anyone breathing? Their in a room filled with fire with no respiratory equipment and all of them are breathing just fine. Not to mention that all of them have zero burns

Crazy thing about fire. You cant see it. All you see is a candle light flame but the whole room is on fire. In a real fire tho

ANyone notice how Steven's coat is always unbuckeled while he danced around and into the flames?? Usually, that'll get you burned to a crisp. But apparently , being burned to a crip wasn't in the script here ; )

I dont get on the rooftop why Brian didn't corroborate Adcox' story to Stephen. I get he still could have been upset with him but I guess they had to have this Adcox be this semi villain at the end to have their almost showdown before he died, the big pryo scene and Stephens death. Also at the end when Stephen tells Brian not to let Adcox' actions get leaked because it would hurt the department, how would it look if down the road it got out what Adcox did and they covered it up?? It would look worse..

yep, did you see the tar boiling on the roof? that's an indication that it's already too dangerous for people to be on that roof.
