The drone pushing through the curtains on fire at :56 is a jaw dropping shot. This movie was messy narratively but my god the visuals and sound design.

5:26 is why Kosinski is a great filmmaker and did a sensational job on Maverick. Oblivion doesn't have the best writing, the plot is very interesting but the narration uneven... but it's a visual marvel, not as much as Tron Legacy, but still. And it works from a dramatic standpoint. It's a very underrated movie.

It’s sad how underrated this movie is! This is one of the few work of science fiction adaptations that got the drones so right! The drones in this movie are some of the most formidable pieces of tech shown in film; exactly what I would expect from an advanced alien AI capable of decimating the entire human race. One drone could take on a literal army in this movie, and it did! Whereas in most movies, enemies feared by all are bested by a protagonist who gets on a vehicle claiming he doesn’t even know how the run the damn thing. All that on his first and only attempt. I mean wtf!?
It is like the final movie before cinema jumped off of a cliff. My greatest regret is not seeing this in theatres. I didn't even know about it until I saw it on TV one day.

There was always something about 166's level of intelligence and personality that made it stand out among the other drones. Like it was a veteran or elite. That just added to its menacing nature.

I think what everybody forgot is that Tom Cruise is actually a licensed pilot and his reactions even though you know the vehicle he is flying is CGI, make this scene work as well as it does
The vehicle was a real prop! Obviously it wasn't actually flying, more being puppeted like a flight simulator, but as far as I remember from behind-the-scenes footage all the shots of them sitting in the ship are them sitting in an actual set.
Bloody loved this movie. Its one of the very few movie's I watched twice. Those scout drones and the noises they made and the control in space...... Blew my mind. Loved it.
The scene where a sniper fires from behind at a drone, and the drone instantly flips its gun around and vaporizes the sniper has the best sound bit in the movie.
One of my favorite sci-fi movies. I love how thoughtful and tactile the design is. And I think it still holds as the most realistic sci-fi in terms of the tech portrayal to this date.

the wound on Tom Cruise's nose that got hurt in the movie "Collateral" still has to heal and it's been almost 15 years by now - but aside from the irony of my sentence - a great Tom Cruise and a film that deserves more success

Also in this drone scene, I love the fact that the pilot area of jacks jet is an actual prop that rotates and goes upside down. Makes the scene fell so much more real. Other than comic book based movies, this has got to be in my top 3 movies if not close to 1
I always thought that every Jack have a drone "in repair" as an inside "on-duty guard" if they gone rogue, just like this one. It put itself on purpose (without him realize) out-of-order just enough every night so it is not release with the other.

A lot of directors and producers don’t want to waist a big budget anymore like Micheal bay, he was an amazing director but bc he used up a lot of money , and new actors that are just bad at acting these days too

Mandolarian actually uses a bunch of techniques they pioneered here with this movie, like the digital sets with big basically movie screens around them showing the environment that give proper lighting to the props/characters and are high-res enough to actually be used on-camera instead of needing VFX CGI replacement afterwards. It also lets the actors actually see and react to what's supposed to be around them, since they can actually see it there, instead of having to just imagine it on green screen. It was a big step up from usual green screen set stuff.
The Tech behind that aircrafts weapons is freaking awesome. It is able to rotate in a 360 space making you able to engage from any angle. You don't have to bring your face forward. The only thing I would say that would make it better, is if the gunner "sphere" is separated from the pilot "sphere"

The drone who killed Vika never got broken, it was planted there since the beginning, exactly for moments like this, if the crew would ever go rogue. It had no shielding because it was never supposed to operate outside. They "know" they were 5 years into the mission, that the drone got broken, and that there are 2 more weeks left, but that's because that's what the Tet planted in their brains, in reality they were never supposed to leave earth, and the drone was supposed to keep an eye on them. Change my mind.

Any modern high-off boresight system paired with a LOAL WVRAAM will put that system to shame.

At today's VFX standards, with perhaps Unreal Engine 5, this chase looks increasingly like a video game scene.
