Synopsis:
Writer/director/producer M. Night Shyamalan returns with an original thriller that delves into the mysterious recesses of one man’s fractured, gifted mind. Though Kevin (James McAvoy) has evidenced 23 personalities to his trusted psychiatrist, Dr. Fletcher (Betty Buckley), there remains one still submerged who is set to materialize and dominate all the others. Compelled to abduct three teenage girls led by the willful, observant Casey (Anya Taylor-Joy, The Witch), Kevin reaches a war for survival among all of those contained within him - as well as everyone around him - as the walls between his compartments shatter apart.

I like how the Beast gets emotional when he sees all her scars; he then starts to praise her, like he's proud of what she's survived and endured. She is, essentially, "one of his own", a member of his "tribe", so to speak.
Casey cook is a “Survivor” like him. That’s why the Beast spared her.
I think he actually had feelings for her, and that is why he chose to spare her.
It is true if you have the ability to learn from it, if you have resilience, if not, you repeat the same vicious circle again and again...
@@bronsonleach3573He spared her because she was also a rape survivor like him. Being raped was the reason he got all the split personalities in the first place.
@@atable2505 Probably both are true.
This ending is one of the greatest scenes in movie history. I know millions of abused adults saw this, and felt it's power. The idea of a monster, forgiving the shame of the abused, is so powerful. M Night seems to get it so right, or so wrong.
He got it right
When Cassey lifted her Shirt and revealed her marks I saw my wounds on her body . Although I was not sexually abused but I grew up in very abusive household with alcoholic and extremely violent father .
Universal gets it. They have been immersed in the hollyweird pedo world for decades.
This scene is why the movie became one of my favorites. I loved your comment.
agreed.
As someone who related to her character a lot… when she realized he wasn’t going to hurt her, that because of what her uncle did to her that she got to live, that what happened to her made her stronger than her friends, strong enough to survive…. The one thing she wished that had never happened to her as a child is what allowed her to live. That’s why she was crying. The sheer power of that scene gets me every single time
Perfectly said!!!! 🛡️🙌🤍
probly the very best explanation of one of the elements of this scene that i've ever read. "The Broken, are the more evolved". truly. well done
I feel sorry for you.
Calm down, kid
Both Anya and a James absolutely nailed their roles in this.
"The broken are the more evolved"
This runs deep!
Yea because it’s true, those that have had perfect cushy lives are usually shallow ignorant people 🤷♀️
or the more mentally unstable
@@hollyroxy25 True though
So sad
Not everybody though. I know people who been through shit and it didn’t change them much
What happened to Casey as a child is really heartbreaking, the actress who played her did an amazing job with this role portraying the trauma she went through. The scene with James trying to pry open the cell and him realizing it was such a great moment as well 💯. James definitely should’ve gotten an Oscar for this movie it’s truly embarrassing he didn’t!
The Oscars are a fckng joke lately, he doesn't need one to know he's the best actor and he nailed his role in this movie
@@AnnaMartinezCabrera Well spoken!👍
I thought we were going to see q flashback of her killing her uncle then she would kill the kidnapper in the present. I was wrong both times.
It makes me sick of the nasty people out there being child molester they killed Casey dad for sex trafficking that shit happens they do that to children and lie make fake storys
Of course she did a good job, it's Anya Taylor-Joy
24 different personalities? Give this man 24 pay checks
And 24 Oscar nominations because damn
Only 7 of them appear in the movie.
Such an intense and poignant scene. It dives straight into the darkest and yet the most divine aspects of the human condition. "The Broken are the more evolved."
The beast had a crazy and kill look on his face but when he saw her scars, his expression changed to understand and caring
Is there some larger philosophy that subscribes to these thoughts?
i forget what the name is maybe stoicism? i cant remember, but its something like when you "die" is when you truly begin to live. it's the origin for many stories when you look closely@@richerite

"Their actions do not represent us" - an important line for those claiming this film vilifies people with DID.
yeah too bad the target for the line will not be able to comprehend it, if they are stupid enough to think this film vilifies people with DID they are certainly not smart enough to comprehend the line
This is just how amazing James is in this movie, when it switches from Hedwig to Ms Patricia before he even says anything you can instantly tell by his mannerisms who has taken the light, simply incredible acting
I like how the title used her real name but kept his as the beast 💀
🤣
No that’s Princess Peach 🙄
His "real name" is the beast when he's in that personality
why didnt he get an oscar for this? amazing acting. james mcavoy is a genius
Ryan gosling got one just for dancing and singing and not James...
@@akisgiaz7534 Oh yeah, La La Land was in 2016, and of course they would give a flashy actor who played a flashy role for the award.
I stopped watching the oscars years ago. It’s very clear that it’s just a big promotion with their own political agendas
Ryan Gosling has no Oscar
Becoz it wasnt that great?
His pupils being so big his eyes look black, his teeth bleeding while he bends the bars is absolutely terrifying
I dont think its his teeth bleeding, i think its blood from one of the other girls he ate. But I could be wrong, dont remember the time line in the movie.
What if I told you that there are people with these characteristics when the pathological personality appears in them, terrifying, brutal, vague, terrified, terrifying, and terrifying looks, and at the same time widened pupils, hardening of facial features, prominence of muscles with a flood of dirty words, then followed in the end by collapse, weakness, strange sadness, a state of great pity for him, I am a specialist Social and I have noticed such cases of horrific violence. I am from Algeria
@@as52343 He bit Casey in the leg right before she got in the cage. It's her blood.
The blood is from when he bit Casey in the leg.
@@as52343Hmm, no. It’s his own blood because of the struggle he is making. You clearly never seen strongmen competing.
The Beast’s philosophy is terribly tragic and sad… only those who have been hurt to a irreversible extent are, in his eyes, pure. The Unslain, those who haven’t been hurt and traumatized cannot call themselves pure💔
The way I see it, the ones who have been truly hurt like that are pure because they’re way less likely to inflict that same hurt upon others, specifically people who understand what happened to them and have begun to work through it. Just a theory though.
Edit: some of y’all don’t know what specifically means apparently
@@AkiiJayUno actually no if such things are treated then violence becomes a cycle, it's why so many serial killers or abusers have horrid backgrounds
@@SergyMilitaryRankings “specifically the ones who understand what happened to them and have begun to work through it”
@@AkiiJayUno which would be a small minority of such people. Most do not work through their trauma for pretty much their entire lives.
@@AkiiJayUno Actually no, it's the exact oposite of what you said. As much violence and abuse you endure, higher is the chance you become the abuser, or worse. People with happy, easy and quiet lives tend to... Well, live happy, easy and quiet.
Anna should’ve gotten an oscar for this. Shes a great actor.
@Angel of Death yeah you right . James should’ve gotten it
anna and james both deserve an oscar for this 👏🏼
@@martham6 Yess
Why? She did a fine job acting like a scared teenager...nothing about that is Oscar worthy. She has some other roles that are much better than this performance.
Who Anna?
This man should've had gotten a freaking Oscar!!! He's amazing and he's skill in this movie was magnificent. I'll just say it James makavoy won the best performance of the entire year!!! 🏆
James had an obviously great performance. But man Anya. Every role I see her in she kills. Sensational talent.
She's insane
I think she was more impressive
wtf? man literally portrayed over 5 personalities in the most flawless way possible and you still think she was more impressive than James?@@nileverdeen3797
“The broken are the more evolved!”
Goosebumps!
To be honest, the first time I seen this scene when he looks at her scars and tells her she is pure, I almost cried because I understood that the broken are the most formidable and strong.
This is hands down M.Nights best movie
He only made one decent movie. And this was far from it.
@@JimRook M. Night has plenty of good movies, I can even name a few if you like
@@JimRook Absolutely. He has low budget flicks to be honest. Compare his Unbreakable or Sixth Sense or even Signs to this.
The Last Airbender is his best film
@@eamonclark4952 who lied to you? 🙃
The screen lighting is dark, and I love it
I genuinely think this movie is and was Anya’s best performance.
I think James should’ve been nominated instead of Ryan Gosling basically singing and dancing in LaLa Land but hey what do I know?
Right 💀
Yeah because to sing good and dance good is pretty easy..
@@bat1579 not saying it is. But to transform into 9 different personalities in the blink of an eye is a little harder
Omg the shot of him crawling on the ceiling breaking the lights one by one gave me CHILLS
The Beast and his principle on killing people is so tragic, like what he almost did to Anna until he saw her injuries, what a good ending.
The main reason this movie has so much criticism is because of its portrayal of people with DID which to be fair, it doesn’t create a certain amount of stigma especially if you are very young, uneducated about DID, or both.
I never understood the flack this movie got. Of course it's not an accurate portrayal of DID. It's not meant to be; it's M. Night. It does, however, open up the door for discussion and research about what DID really is. Before this movie, the only other time I ever heard of DID was the movie Cybil with Sally Field and that was probably a little over 30 years ago.
Yeah but we also have to understand that this is in a universe with humans with powers and other abilities. While this was not an accurate portrayal of DID it seemed almost like a insane mutation of it.
His acting in this scene is so powerful, gives me Rutger Hauer in the original Bladerunner vibes
I feel the same. Reminded me of that epic ending also.
Those that have been abused, felt this scene deeply
Get over it everybody given a hand in life even if u got 72 then bluff ur way thru
"What doesn't kill you makes you stronger."
Rejoice!
Yea I know bunch of junkies in Kensington would disagree
Idk how James did not go crazy filming this... you have too live like you have 23 people inside of one... crazy
His acting in this is incredible
damn when he turns into hedwig, james did an amzing job . every single personality what an amazing actor
9:25 the delivery on that line...*chefs kiss*
Gotta admit, that line hit pretty damn hard. ...😢
After i've seen what a shotgun does to a balisticgel doll, i'm pretty impressed with his resilience to the shotgun rounds.
within the context of this universe, he isn't 100% human anymore. The eyes turning almost black and the strength to bend steel bars are enough signs.
That's where the scene with all the personalities in front of the mirror comes from. They think they've evolved. In Glass the therapist says it might be because the bullets were old and didn't work properly.
Finally watched if for the first time today and was amazed by how her scars ended up saving her life. Gorgeous performance from the both of them.
Anya Taylor-Joy is such a Horror goddess, I love watching her in intense rolls like this.
I liked how this actor played many characters in the same role and mastered them very well ✨
Technically, she didn't beat the Beast. Her horrible life did 😎
Nope she was strong and more pure
@@kapoorvarun909 exactly she wasn't just a typical final girl , she was more than that , she was a survivor
@@Actingwork Exactly , Death is instant but Physical abuse and mental trauma is life long horror .
@@Actingwork she was a final girl
James macavoy gave one of the most impressive acting performances I have ever seen and I’m sure lots of people would agree
What an actor deserves an Oscar
Still can't believe that's Mr. Tumnus from the Chronicles of Narnia lol
Mr tumnus went feral and starting killing people
"The Broken are the more evolved."... hits different
Evolved or devolved power thru or succumb no absolutes
It's created some of the greatest n tragic of people
I still get chills every time I see this scene. A lot of people don’t understand that this movie really captures how people who are abused create broken individuals. And yet The Beast (aka Kevin) lets her live because she, like him, also was abused and he sees her as his equal. It also makes me tear up too because I had to escape horrible people who were emotionally abusive and this scene made me and a lot of people feel seen.
This is a psychological thriller that delivers in ways similar to Psycho and Silence of the Lambs. Incredible film
This touched me in so many ways! It reminded me of many things in my past.......😢😢😢
Same here . When James said Rejoice I Rejoiced ...
care to share?
It reminded you of how something else “touched” you? 💀
@@bullymaguire3675 weakling
@@bullymaguire3675No and you will never understand
For a brutally flawed director who alternates hits and misses, this is perhaps M. Night Shyamalan's magnum opus cinematic sequence. Pure filmmaking at its finest and beyond enthralling.
i really think James McAvoy would make a great Joker.
I miss this era of Anya Taylor-Joy's career
The acting is so on point...
The way the beast looks at her at the end is almost tender. What an amazing performance from James.

SHES SO PRETTY
Imagine being so revered in your craft that you’re called by your real name instead of your character’s in a movie starring you.
Man, both James and Anya were incredible in this scene. İt's just amazing and entertaining.
The broken are the more evolved. Such a simple but vulnerable and poignant statement, resembling how hard is life for some people and how privileged are the population that have never truly suffered some kind of trauma, loss or mental/physical illness
Evolved n devolved u wanna coin toss on humanities fate guess what let's go carrot n the stick
This all happened because she beat him in chess. He didn't take the loss well.
??? What
@@i.i1215 it’s a reference to a character Anna plays I think the show is called queens gambit
M. Night is a military-time broken clock; it's right once a day. He was correct here and damn if he didn't put together a masterpiece.
He has a few movies like this. Great director and I don’t necessarily know if his failed project are of his doing as much as external factors
WHY THIS MAN DONT HAVE A OSCAR YET??
Look at his performance..damn.
Man look at Anya Taylor-Joy, so inspirational
Titty bounce was amazing when she was running.
This movie was so heartbreaking, yet so Great! I truly sympathize with Casey and Kevin! 😢😢 What they both went through was so Horrid!! Abuse damages people, and this movie shows that clearly! 💔🥺
9:08 thats a fkn Oscar right there
*ABSOLUTELY AMAZING ACTING🔥*
*HER ACTING ALSO🔥*
Billy Milligan was acquitted of rape & armed robbery due to the belief that he truly had D.I.D with 24 alternate personalities. Obviously this character was based on a non fictional person. I love this movie
There's one thing about experiencing an extreme level of trama.... we will never live in a mental box..our souls are free...
Everyone's saying James McAvoy deserves an Oscar for this, but so does Anya Taylor Joy. That look of pure terror on her face 8:37 as she's facing her worst fear after years of abuse is truly devastating.
One of my most favorite scenes in all of film history
OP 🔥 acting by James Mcavoy .. 💝
The way he smoothly transitions to different personalities is crazy.
I love that it's anya taylor joy and not casey vs beast
6:24 "the impure are the untoched, the unburned, the unslained" the unbreackables. Damn M.N missed that word to make this speech more powerful
8:55 When Andrew Tate sees you drinking sparkling water
One thing for sure, this was one of the best lead ins to a sequel I've ever seen. I remember when I first watched it , and the music qued up, I thought wow what a rip off. Using the same music as Unbreakable
Wow!!!! This movie is absolutely a psychological thriller and a completely travel to the mind of a mental sick man. Such an intense and deep scene, that makes us have a reflexion of the world, even if it is in a horror movie.
The way he's changing is heartbreaking
James needs an Oscar for this 💯
"Those who have not been torn have no value in themselves & no place in this world.."
Had this been a better movie, McAvoy might have been nominated for an Oscar, pretty amazing performance.
No body gives a f. About the oscars. Hollywood pedos wont nominate a film that shows pedos and their effects on kids in bad light. And on its own this was a great movie
What a strange coincidence that the beast promotes a philosophy that puts himself at the top of the totem pole. I'm sure nobody has ever done that in history ever.
Love the World of Warcraft reference. This Alliance..this Horde
He is a great actor. I like him!
Oscar should have won the James Mcvouy
1:41 shotgun sounds like a TOY...
4:11 sounds like an actual GUN...
small flaw haha
Anya jiggled tremendously in this scene.
Incredible acting. Really incredible.
gods she is possibly the most gorgeous woman alive.
From Prof. X to the Beast, this man’s got range 👍
Actually Not Defeating, Only By Exploring 🧐🧐🧐
Of course they gave the Oscar to the flashy role Gosling played in La La Land, what a joke.
Rejoice! Rejoice!
My favorite thing about The Beast is that his pupils are fully dilated because that personality is permanently ramped up to 11 on adrenaline
I wish Glass lived up to the potential after Unbreakable and Split were so good.
Don't get me wrong, Glass was still ok. I just wanted more after the trilogy had built up so well. It was still great to see Shyamalan with a comeback at the time!
everything the beast says is awesome and basically puts every person in the world in one of two categories. either your asleep or awake
You could say he went beast mode
This was some good ass acting 🔥🔥🔥 from both of them and i can sense some redemption and validation come from her at the end when tears started falling 💯💯💯
Mainstream-Fans: "What is Unbreakable and Glass?"
so true!
McAvoy killed this performance. He’s a beast. Oh….wait
9:05 they know what they're doing
The “rejoice” scene is wholesome in a weird twisted way.
Only through pain, can u achieve ur greatness .
The impure are the untouched
Those who have not been torn have no valuse in their life
They are asleep
Where is this mans Oscar seriously
