    You’re DAMN RIGHT. Yes Kurt should have got the Oscar for best supporting actor. He’s been in lots good good movies. But this was his MASTERPIECE.

      No doubt Kurt Russell's acting was incredible. His death scene in the ambulance when he kept his eyes and face locked in position as he had to simulate being shocked with the defibrillator was amazing too.

      Yeah, you can really tell the difference between a great actor (Russell) and a not so great actor (Baldwin) by their expressions. Although Baldwin is serviceable in this movie.

    Backdraft is one of my favorite firefighter movies . When ever I hear a firetruck it makes me think of backdraft

    Something I never noticed was at 2:22,you can tell Axe is overwhelmed with Guilt,but it’s disguised as sorrow over Tim.Truthfully,axe is guilty that his fire nearly killed Tim,and never intended it to hurt Tim,only kill Holcomb(which isn’t morally right).
    Truly remarkable juxtaposition.

      @@giannimagdalen9301 Tim should have never made it through the academy with that stunt. That’s basic stuff you get pounded into your head at the academy. Stephen reminded him to check the doors for heat. In the end nobody was to blame but Tim.

      Well yeah. He was a rookie, and rookies make mistakes.
      But THREE mistakes in such a short time? Yeah, that's WAY too much. I mean, Bull reminded him to check the door for heat less than a Minute ago, how the fuck could he forget again?
      But yeah, waiting for backup whould have been way better in that situation anyways.

      @@JackMacLupus I saw a documentary where a USMC sniper in Falluja kept telling a group of Marines on a roof to stay down and keep their heads low. He kept calling over coms to get low, and that if he could see them, than enemy snipers could see them too. He would call on the radio and tell them this and they would. Then a few minutes later they would pop their heads up again. This happened several times until one of the unlucky Marines took a round from an enemy sniper.
      You can have all the training in the world, and make a mistake, get board, or just be stupid. Complacency, curiosity, and boredom can kill

      Ron Howard has been a real good Director and Producer and made some powerful movies like Apollo 13, Backdraft, A Beautiful Mind, The Missing among others come a long ways since his days as an actor on Andy Griffith show and Happy Days

    1:55 That part always hit me the hardest, it wasn't Steven's fault, but he still takes the responsibility
    and feels the overwhelming sense of guilt, very powerful scene and played perfectly by Kurt Russell.

      Just for the record, the older coats were made of rubber and cotton duck with a flannel liner. This was about the time they started making them out of nomex.

      @@ronaldrobertson2332 I'm not a firefighter, my cousin is, he told me fires are unpredictable at best. He told me about backdrafts and how they are, in his opinion the worse thing that can happen in a fire. I'm a layman and I agree with him, they look horrific.

    Think it was scripted for the stunt man's head to hit the light fixture 3:39 ? Stuff like that adds SO much to the scene. Great recognition to leave it in.

      It’s hard to say because we can actually count the exact amount of lives that firefighters save. It’s not that easy with cops. Many of the lives they save are indirect. By arresting a murderer, they are potentially saving future victims but, how many? Could be 1 or could be 12. Could be zero. There’s no way to tell.

    lol I always love how the censors miss Axe’s subtle f-bomb when Steve walks in, when he says “you’re taking too many fucking chances”. It’s so subtle you can barely hear it, but it always got by censors lol

    OMG 😳😱 that was the most powerful scene I've ever seen and William Baldwin's character proved a point if Kurt's character should have listened to him about looking out for his probie non of this would have happened that jaw dropping scene gave me adrenaline and for good reasons because brothers do fight but they take it, they learn from it, and they get on the god damn truck and that's how they work together and cope with their mistakes and luckily Tim would have died but he's is luckily to be alive pulse pounding, action, and triumph taking a risk is serious business for firefighters and taking a path of good graces and I am impressed with the movie it's awesome 👍😎

    There was no reason, for the rest of the firefighters to blame Stephen for what happened. It wasn't his fault. Tim should've listened and checked that door for heat. It's life and death, every time they go into a burning building. He's supposed to remember, everything they taught him at the academy.

    Feels like this is just like that Andy Darden incident from Chicago Fire! Steve clearly told Tim to check for heat, he didn’t do it thoroughly and then he ended up getting burnt! In Chicago Fire Casey told Darden to stand down and not break the window in the very first episode! He didnt listen and still did it anyway which resulted in a flashover and he ended up getting killed! Both Andy and Tim defied orders and did not listen to instructions, and as a result, both Steve and Brian were playing the blame game, Adcox also blamed Steve and in Chicago Fire Casey and Severide were playing the blame game for months too…….

    (The heat explodes and it pushes Tim down a plain glass window; the 🔥 fire throws on Tim and he's all 🔥 burned ☝ up and screams)
    Stephen: TIM!
    (Stephen tries to put out the 🔥 fire off Tim's jacket; 🚒 Firefighter puts the 🔥 fire out off of Tim's jacket with the waterhose)
    🚒 Firefighter 1: WATCH OUT! I GOT HIM! MOVE OFF!
    Axe: PUT IT OUT!
    (Axe 🏃 runs to the 🚑 ambulance and ask the paramedics for a Strecher)

    IN my opinion Ron Howard really only made 3 great movies: Willow, Backdraft and Rush. The rest has been made for teevee crap. I was really hoping he could direct a Star Wars movie someday but the way Solo turned out was just more made for teevee crap.

    Sorry... but this just wasn't a very good movie...it simply had a lot of dramatic special effects that helped paper over a weak script and actors that were phoning it in.
    Sutherland and Deniro were the only actors doing anything skillful/engaging.
    It's a C+ level film at best.

      My problem with this film has always been Ron Howard's directing. It's just pretentious as hell and makes it hard to take seriously. I really loved it as a kid and i still think the acting is top notch, but it just goes too far with the hero mythology stuff. And i come from a family of fireman. I want to like it more but can't.

    Whoever believes ANYTHING in this movie is ANYTHING like it is is in real life should not be a firefighter, walking around interior structure fires with your jacket not sealed , no scba, ladder 49 was 100x better than this shit show
