What are you talking about? Group chats support end to end encryption in Google Messages for a while now. If it's not supported, that means someone in the group chat is using a different app, not Google Messages.
Having used both RCS on Android and iMessage on my iPhone, I can honestly say each have their strengths and weaknesses. iMessage is still the standard and between that and FaceTime, is why most people still buy an iPhone. But there’s little in customization which is where RCS is better. Honestly, with the head start that iOS has had over Android for years, they should be light years ahead of anything on Android. But, Apple is greedy and lazy so iMessage is basically the same it’s always been except for a few new features here and there. And most of those “new features” are ones inspired from Android. iOS has excellent ecosystem sync second to none and Android is still trying to catch up there. Really, neither is technically better than the other because it’s all subjectively based on each individual’s preferences.
Nice video. You forgot an older but goodie with Google Messages: scheduling a message. Also Google Messages allows attachments up to 1.5GB vs. iMessages 100MB. Google Messages also offers Magic Compose for A.I. to write messages based on the last 20 messages between you and an individual. Google Messages offers customizable themes for each conversation thread.
Nice insight... Only thing is I dont know any android user who uses their google messaging app exclusively. unless it is to send a bog standard message. Another app ticks all the boxes needed meaning for me rcs messaging is more for business/medical/Financial usage
I use both, but one thing you forgot to mention with google messages. When it comes to reactions for a particular message, you can choose to add ANY emoji you want. Not just the standard 5 that are already there by default.
I'm using google message. I don't need apple 10 point. I'm happy with wat google message have. Messaging app is to communicate news thoughts to some one . I think apple and google done its work perfectly 😊
I'm currently bothered by the colored backgrounds in the RCS chats in Google Messages. In the video, the RCS chat has a neutral background. Can you set this somewhere? I haven't found anything about it 😔
Group Encryption is also comming to RCS. Also, RCS has a direct conversation between devices thus working also if every google server is down. iMessage uses Apple servers for communication.
This video missed a huge advantage for Google Messages, at least on a Pixel. That is Conversation Bubbles. You can have different conversations displayed as separate stacked bubbles overlayed on top of whatever is already on your screen for quicker access and faster conversation switching. This works for other chat apps also so you can manage chats on different apps as if they were all nearly integrated into a single master chat platform. This is a complete game changer of a feature that all by itself elevates the RCS Messaging experience to an equal or better overall multimodal chat experience.
RCS is not new it's just since recently they started to give it some love more than ever RCS support up to 100 people in group chat iMessage support 30
One huge difference thought... RCS comes out of the box for every Android and has all these features between all Android phones, where as iMessage is exclusively on iPhone and only between iPhone so in my opinion, RCS is the much better option. Having iMessage as an option on iPhones is a cool feature, but we shouldn't still be on sms/mms when texting and Android
Forgot to mention an extra iMessage point in the security section: iMessage uses not just end-to-end encryption across the board, but the encryption it uses is level 3 post-quantum cryptography, which makes it even more secure than signal which is at a level 2.
I hope that when Apple brings compatibility between RCS and iMessage with iOS 18 that it will become more popular in other countries like here in the EU too. It’s just nice to be able to use the default App and not have to download such nonsense apps like WhatsApp.
One more point for iMessage is when tou hold the phone in landscape mode you get the option to draw or write with your finger and send it to the other person as a picture
Honestly at this point i wish google mandated an option in the setup of android phones to use a selection of default google apps or to straight up use stock android or to use the tweaked manufacturers skin*which is unlikely. Its so weird sometimes that some android users dont know what features are available because their phone uses a different version of an app like dialer or contacts etc. Something that sometimes works in appls favour is that everyone gets the same experience more or less and there's no guessing if someone else's iPhone can do something On android with the amount of options that are already out has in some cases created a mess since there's no standardised experience.
He totally missed that Google has AR core, which has from Star Wars animations in AR to Samsung own AR emoji. Plus, you can share ANYTHING to your message app, so that's not missing on Android. Like when sharing location, send you to Google Maps and you cab share your active location, yes, battery life too. I hate lazy reviews 😒
Having used both they are both good for they intended purpose. They both send messages and files with high quality over data. They will be much better when they work across platform later this year. Who cares if one can stack a reaction or emoji on top another 🤣
I didn't think it's s mystery that imessage and FaceTime are better. The problem is that one must use the rest of iOS to have those features, so minus 50.
The thing is outside of US atleast, most people dont use either of them much , imessage still used but google messages are barely ever used. which is why google is not focusing on it.
You never mentioned Scheduled Send. +10 for google messages. Also, the iphone keyboard sucks. -10 for imessage. Integration with other apps in imessages is a disadvantage because it is too easy to send the wrong thing to the wrong person. -10 for imessage.
If you are in the us most natives just use whatever the os default is Ik WhatsApp, Telegram etc is common pretty much everywhere else but not so much here. The only people who tend to stray from it is many immigrants who have relatives outside the country other than that I don’t really see it
Exactly. Phone use culture is different here. Maybe 5% of people I know use an Android device as it is. I think a big reason is because iPhone was very expensive to begin with and people in the US could afford it. iPhone wasn’t even available in a lot of countries to start. So android grabbed global market share and WhatsApp gave android users overseas an iMessage-like experience. In the US, iMessage simply works out of the box so there was no reason to download a third party app for US iPhone users.
Out of curiosity, who uses the default msg app on android anyway? Atleast where im from everyone uses whatsapp or telegram. The defualt app is only used for bank transaction msgs. So i dont really understand the whole debacle between RCS and IMESSAGE. Its redundant 🤷🏽♂️
My problem is that I literally only ever do 3 things ... Text, send photos or gifs. I really just don't care about all the extra features cause I barely feel like texting lol
How about 50 points for Android for the fact that if you don't like this messaging app you can just go use another one... Apple doesn't let you swap out the text messaging app
Best comparison made in a while!! Google , whatsapp Needs to step up with their messaging game with tons of reactions and ability to send seamlessly send links
Its mind blowing people still don't realize Samsung, Vivo, Huawei, Xiaomi, Honor magic, Google , One Plus, and Red Magic are superior to IOS , I started with ios and Android changed my life years ago However I will say imessage is one of the best texting apps no doubt
Animated emojis on Android, changing bubble colors, and keyboard customization should give android 300 points. I have both iPhone 15 pro max and Pixel 8 pro and I have to say messaging on Android is far better than iPhone. Memojis are useless unless I'm facetiming my 3 year old. Just to name a few things
The annoying part is, that this is a USA problem. My family all over the world uses What's App and other messaging apps that work across the board. A lot of iPhone users would not even consider the WhatsApp app or anything else to accommodate others.

@@LDaviswait your partner has to buy an iPhone just to check in 🤯
That seems as inconvenient as having to switch out of the camera app, go into the settings app just to adjust your picture 🤣
@@Spoonfed78 its okay. enjoy the shutter lag and blurry focus.
@@ZeerakImran i don't use her iPhone to take pics generally. Though I've experienced what you described, hung up zooming in and out attempt too video. To iPhone users find that enjoyable? I'd be frustrated and annoying. We just used the cheaper other phone to video while waiting for a reboot
I think 'edit sent message' is the major thing which is missing in rcs chats.
Thats cuz google understands Android users are smarter and more likely to read before they send so no need to edit after sending
@guyfromnewark I'm sure that's the reason, lmfao
I use Samsung messages app 'cause I'm gotta Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra and it works for me. Cheers ;)
Good points, the one thing i noticed when i temporarily had an iPhone that was annoying was it took more taps to do things like attach a photo while rcs has a dedicated button to addeding photos/videos
Profile discovery on google messages still isn't available for everyone tho.
A lot of google messages features are not available for everyone
New here.
What do we need that for?
Another bonus point for Google Messages for allowing one to access the chat history from any browser.
I would rather have the audio get saved in the file directory rather than a random app.
I would also prefer
📠
Not only random, but proprietary first party app, making any third party apps all the more obsolete. The Apple way.
But but, audio do get saved in a file directory on all apps. Dafuq you people whinging about.

Great video! Really informative!
I'd add the ability to schedule text message with RCS. Its a such a clutch feature!
End to end Does work in RCS only group chats. I have 3 different text groups with Full RCS encryption.
dont forget, this only works with 20% of worldwide phones, google messages works with 60-70% (older phones not supporting newer versions)
I have full encryption on my RCS groups, but yeah, Google has some work to do
Fantastic video! It'll be interesting if google tries to level the field a little more before RCS drops for IOS in the fall.
I still love Google messages 😢😢

Just got the S24 ultra after 15+ years with apple and i think google msg is better.. only because you can mess with colorization.. other than that to me they are almost the same..
I have an Android for my work phone and I can confirm that the experience is way better on messages. The predicative typing is way better, the options are more, and you are not even missing out on features like being able to open Google Messages on a computer.
Kudos to you for being objective and not siding with any of the companies when doing this review. Well made!!
I have to say that RCS is shaping up to be a pretty good competitor. You forgot to mention a bunch of things. Like better integration to do video call. I’m going to leave it at that point. Good I wonder why you got magic compose and I don’t? What I’m missing? Running pixel 8 pro with beta message.
Magic compose is only available in some countries and is only slowly rolled out in beta channel. Perhaps it will be available to you in the following weeks
@@aradazer but I'm in usa. I had a S23 ultra and I had all them features and when I upgrade to my S24U all them features went Ghost. But what I don't understand is. How I had all them features on my S23 but not my pixel 8 pro? So how it is?
FaceTime is better at video call than anything in RCS
Apple already has face time for that
Google doesn't push the features to everyone at the same time which is one of my biggest complaints, even my 7 Pro has more features than my 8 Pro
Google RCS has great potential
This was definitely a much needed breakdown. Will I ever use even half of the features for either one? No. But it's nice knowing. I remember the live message feature on Samsung that probably never got used as well
Bottomline iMessage got a heap of points on toy junk that we would never use, an impractical review.
I think its also worth noting thay imessage lets you turn read reciepts on or off per contact rather than a blanket on or off like google messages
iMessage also have other fun features like iMessage games, it’s really fun as it makes texting more exciting, playing a game while texting with a friend or family, I think google also needs to an implement something like it
I missed this one, thanks for bringing it
Messages is constantly getting better.
Does iMessage have an online status? Like "last seen ..."?
No, it doesn't 👍🏼
I am pretty sure the RCS side, which was SMS before, can still do a lot of these things... like the AR emojis among others, I was doing that stuff in messages on my s10+ back in 2019... so either they removed it for some reason, or you just don't know how to do it on RCS
Ability to use on many/pretty much all brands probably should have been a point too. This is perhaps the biggest point, that iMessage is not able to be used on any other brand makes it useless for most/many, and that they don't integrate RCS smacks of irony when they market their "security".
Just like USBC they'll be dragged kicking and screaming but still make it dated when implemented, ie USB 2 speeds
There are billion iPhones out there and depend on the country Japan and the United States you have a good chance of the majority of your family and friends have an iPhone so it's perfect also the integration across all of Apple devices with imessage let alone other stuff is another huge Point even though I have the newest Galaxy tablet and the s24 ultra a lot of my stuff including messages do not linked up at least in the United States
@@aaronlimitless Timmay is that you. Cooking again mate.🤣
Everyone "buy your mum and iPhone" because to some a dystopian nightmare of a single brand and without choice of selecting the most suitable device for ones budget is utopia 🤷♂️
What are you talking about? Group chats support end to end encryption in Google Messages for a while now. If it's not supported, that means someone in the group chat is using a different app, not Google Messages.
RCS has a lot of catching up to do.
Let's see, when it gets adopted on other platforms
I'm fine with the typing indicator and the read receipt and, high quality videos. I really don't need anything else
@@JonSuejoj agreed
@@JonSuejoj group chat encryption would be nice though
It's fractured depending on what android phone and even what keyboard you have.
Really, neither is technically better than the other because it’s all subjectively based on each individual’s preferences.
please do a gboard vs apple keyboard comparison. I'm using a beta version of gboard and there are so many cool features
G wins just on being able to mess with the colors imo..
lol no comparison.
GBoard wins
There's also attachment on Audio Recordings that make it look really cool
perfect comparison. Apple has a tendancy to make thinks nobody uses at all for iMessage i.e: Sticker reactions and such.
Editing messages is a thing in Google Messages now
This is still unavailable.
I'm using google message. I don't need apple 10 point. I'm happy with wat google message have. Messaging app is to communicate news thoughts to some one . I think apple and google done its work perfectly 😊
I’m here but I don’t even use imessage. 😂 In my country we use fb-messenger, whatsapp, telegram or even vibes in social messaging.
I'm currently bothered by the colored backgrounds in the RCS chats in Google Messages. In the video, the RCS chat has a neutral background. Can you set this somewhere? I haven't found anything about it 😔
Editing messages is available in RCS
How the heck you forget emoji kitchen from Gboard? It is so good
Group Encryption is also comming to RCS. Also, RCS has a direct conversation between devices thus working also if every google server is down. iMessage uses Apple servers for communication.
But who is really using every single feature on both. I think they are both solid depending on what ecosystem you're in
Can you please also compare 3rd-party messaging apps? Thanks!
Guys rcs is relatively new so relax
RCS is not new it's just since recently they started to give it some love more than ever RCS support up to 100 people in group chat iMessage support 30
@@macgyvermac2344100 people suppose with no end to end encryption, I think google needs to work on that
No it's not. It's been more than a decade.
Not me at all lol
RCS started in 2009. Google was just wasting their time trying to perfect other messaging apps, which failed.
Google messages has a GIF creator to create gifs from the front camera, and it's also going to get the message Editor soon just like iMessage has
Best youtube channel ever cause you actually tackle the real stuff
The one thing I can't understand. Why the heck we unable to copy selected text within the messages??
On my phone you can select text or copy the whole message.
Something that sometimes works in appls favour is that everyone gets the same experience more or less and there's no guessing if someone else's iPhone can do something
On android with the amount of options that are already out has in some cases created a mess since there's no standardised experience.
I think you should've added an extra point to imessage for every type of animoji
A lot of Google message features are not on my pixel 6
And this is exactly what my comment was about. Google and major fragmentation issues with their Pixel phones.
He did mention scheduled send
@@siloPIRATE I missed it. Sorry. What is the time stamp please?

10 points? ur just saying this cuz u always want android to win
U just a apple hater just say dat
RCS on iPhone? Finally!
I also think iMessage wins over RCS but here's the thing, a lot of people don't use some of those features on both sides.
Brilliant video! Hope both companies are taking notice, especially you, Google! 🤨
Group chats on RCS are encrypted end-to-end for a while now. You can find voice chats by opening the files app and go to audio.
I wish we had iMessage quality android
Best comparison made in a while!! Google , whatsapp Needs to step up with their messaging game with tons of reactions and ability to send seamlessly send links
I would prefer if google could seperate SMS messages and RCS messages from each other so it's not cluttered with friends and company messages
Its mind blowing people still don't realize Samsung, Vivo, Huawei, Xiaomi, Honor magic, Google , One Plus, and Red Magic are superior to IOS , I started with ios and Android changed my life years ago
However I will say imessage is one of the best texting apps no doubt
In India people use WhatsApp for everything messaging. Neither Google message nor iMessage.
Did appl implement RCS?
Not yet
Coming soon 😮
not yet but they are doing it soon!
Should come this fall
Animated emojis on Android, changing bubble colors, and keyboard customization should give android 300 points. I have both iPhone 15 pro max and Pixel 8 pro and I have to say messaging on Android is far better than iPhone. Memojis are useless unless I'm facetiming my 3 year old. Just to name a few things
#TeamPixel
i agree
The annoying part is, that this is a USA problem. My family all over the world uses What's App and other messaging apps that work across the board. A lot of iPhone users would not even consider the WhatsApp app or anything else to accommodate others.
Great video... unbiased and I am an Android guy.
Very very cool video!
Nobody uses either of them on like 99% of the world, so they're kinda useless for most people tbh.
RCS is doing pretty good, is true iMessages is still better, but remember that RCS is new, while iMessages has been going on for more than a decade.
Scheduled message, an important smart feature that a feature phone already had in 2000's but gone in the "smart" phone era
