iOS user with Android friends here, I’ll keep using Signal to talk to them for the most part until RCS does end-to-end, so looking forward to iOS 20 or so.
SimpleX, Threema or Session are worth looking at instead of Signal or WhatsApp. Nobody should be using Telegram for anything that needs privacy and security!
Reminder that this only happened thanks to pressure from regulatory bodies. When there's no profit incentive, major companies will never do things like this to improve the QOL for users
Interestingly, the RCS standard supports changing group chat icons just like iMessage, although it has never been implemented in Google messages. I'm very curious if this feature works between iPhone users in RCS group chats.
You must have an iPhone. We have always been able to change group names. Now with ios 18. Iphones can see the group name. You can get the beta if you would like to try it yourself.
I just wish that Apple would reach out to Google to implement E2EE between their two clients. They say they want to add it to the standard, but I don't think that's ever going to happen as there are members in the GSMA that explicitly do not want it added to the standard. That's why they say that encryption is the responsibility of the messaging clients, which is why Google implemented it the way they did.
I'm really curious why your mom couldn't install another app to send photos in good quality. Most privacy and security messengers are free and don't mangle photos as badly as the Apple Messages app does.
For existing imessage group chats, is it as simple as adding in the Android phone number? If this is attempted today IOS advises you to create a new MMS group. Thanks!
@@phire4694so basically you think there should be a monopoly on texting features. That's so dumb. Apple has been the problem all along. We get "iMessage features"...it's called RCS and it works between Android phones.
As of writing this comment, I can tell you that rcs has come to Canada in the first public release in iOS 18. I am on fido, have not tried it yet, but some people I do see that rcs tag.
this would require the carrier use google's jibe and not their own server. While TMO said they were going to switch to jibe doesn't seem to have fully happened so far as some report issues with RCS between android users at this point.
Apple has already proved that they can run their own servers by creating the iMessage platform. I don't know why people still believe this nonsense. Nothing is preventing the network operator from using Apple servers other than Apple refusing to provide them.
are there any limitations for people who don't keep their mobile data turned on all the time? can rcs messages still be received as sms when mobile data is off?
Thanks for the comparison on what can and can't be done between Android and iPhone's RCS systems. The only thing though... Are you able to remove people from Group Chats now? And also will Android be annoyed by Every ping of messages in a Group Chat? I forget the exact wording for it but I hope you get the gist of it.
unfortunately I think it's imperative that Apple changes the color for RCS bubbles. the masses are probably not even going to think anything is different unless the biggest visual factor changes
so basically iphone to iphone will still use i message as normal but iphone to android will use RCS instead of SMS? and then whatsapp will die but its confusing if both RCS and SMS will show as a green?
It's basically impossible to send even a 40 second video over rcs. And it's hit or miss if you can get a photo to go through via rcs from Android to iPhone. Have to swap to MMS to get it to go.
I am not actually getting the beta version that will allow me to u send messages , I'm an Android user and have been for a really long time , mostly everyone I chat with has Android as well, any advice?
@6:27 don't be surprised i am from India and all the android OEM do not use google message as default and RCS is not a Universal feature on android either.
The only feature that I care about that’s missing is in line replies. Idc much about e2ee since I don’t get it anyway with sms. When it comes it will be great but no sense complaining about it now
2:50 my wife has an iPhone and I have Samsung. I don't get read receipts on my phone because she has read receipts turned off. 5:47 I am on Google Messages beta and I CAN NOT unsend or edit text messages. It's a server issue and not available to everyone
iMessage doesn't allow Android users to be added to a group chat among Apple users using iMessage - it would have to be started as a new text chain to 'let the Android user in'. Would RCS change that and allow Android users to be added to a group chat without starting a new chain?
For group chats, can you name groups and set group photos? Can you add/remove members without having to create a new thread like in MMS? And finally, if an Android user is removed and all remaining users are iOS, does the group chat switch back to using iMessage?
It is not bug that Apple device losing the RCS Messaging and going back to SMS. but it is a feature that needs to be developed. Google Android device checks if the other (terminating) party is capable of RCS Messaging feature or not, before the originator sends the message as per design, whereas Apple being new to RCS Messaging needs to develop this feature.
If RCS e2e encyption universal standard gets updated and they implement the edit, unsend, and direct reply features across platforms, we could finally put this silly topic to rest!
I don't know why Apple users are unwilling to install a free app that provides privacy and security. That's the silliness from my perspective. It's worth the storage space on your underspecified phones to be able to talk to people without worrying about limitations Apple has imposed.
My biggest problem is that texts dont always come through on both ends, leaving gaps in communication. Curious if anyone else is experiencing this and if this might be a fix
This is such great news. Ive been pressured to switch to iPhone 15 because 80% of my friends do have iPhones but no offense to iPhone users, aside from the best animations, it’s a really boring phone. I can’t wait to switch back to Android.
*It's about time apple decided to upgrade to the fastest standard (RCS) messaging the pixel has been having for yrs now it's been the same messaging system for apple for them since the iPhone 3g*
I might be in the minority but I don't actually like typing indicators in group chats, and their absence is one of the things I like most about iMessage group chats as they are now. I hope there will be a feature to disable the typing indicator at least for RCS.

@@The_Butcher_of_Blaviken wow thanks for the pro tip👌
Also do you have a Samsung phone? The RCS settings in their Messages app allows you to send photos and videos at original quality. I wonder if the iPhone actually receives it as such
In Android, you can have any color you want for text. Yet, people think the iPhone is more advanced . 😂
Apple did this on purpose to convince the iPhone fanboys that they had a superior product.
iPhone users always think they are or have the best phones. So funny to say such a thing in 2024 and years to come 😂😂
Bro no one cares. Grow up.
@@Artistikk This is just a fun tech discussion about phones. So why do you have to get ugly? Just let people talk.
@@Artistikk Bro it's 2024 and beyond, your choice doesn't make your decision the best or right to everyone.😂😂
I mean iMessage doesn’t have typing indicators nor read and deliver receipts for groupchats so it makes sense that’s it’s inconsistent on rcs groupchats
Doesn't make sense to not have those features.
@@jasonashley9853 You’re definitely right, was just saying that’s probably why they are not fully working on rcs since they are in a group chat with iPhone people
Thank you so much. I think finally i can give a try to iPhone ❤
Does sending a voice note to iPhone work better now?
Finally. Been waiting on this for a while now
Thanks for this video!
Okay! You should try two iPhones and android in group chat.
I am so happy that this is working. My kid is on iOS, and my wife and I are using Pixel 8 Pro. It was a nightmare when I got images and videos from both devices. When our kid upgraded to iOS 18, she checked to make sure RCS was enabled. Now we can see the images and videos much better. Question. I noticed when we like a message from iOS, it shows the emoji to text on the iOS. Today, I checked and noticed within the chat group this message. End-to-end encryption: Off Group end-to-end encryption isn't available for my kid's name. More about RCS chats. Do we have to delete the family group and start a new one?
Did I spot the Google Store in San Francisco 👀 I have been there once...quite a nice place. It's perfect to grab a cup of coffee from the Google Cafe and get work done on your laptop 😂
So happy this has been getting so much more attention. Ive been waiting for years telling my iphone friends the exoerience will get better while I fight off their insatiability for blue bubbles. It'll still be green, but it'll be better
this is probably not very surprising but I have been waiting for this day to happen for EONS
iOS user with Android friends here, I’ll keep using Signal to talk to them for the most part until RCS does end-to-end, so looking forward to iOS 20 or so.
They might do E2E in stable release
SimpleX, Threema or Session are worth looking at instead of Signal or WhatsApp. Nobody should be using Telegram for anything that needs privacy and security!
Can’t wait to have this working. Tesco mobile not doing it yet
This'll be really good for my mom, she has an iPhone and sends photos a lot
I'm really curious why your mom couldn't install another app to send photos in good quality. Most privacy and security messengers are free and don't mangle photos as badly as the Apple Messages app does.
@ChrisEly she's over 60 and not exactly a tech guru, she probably could figure it out if she set her mind to it but it probably never occurred to her
In the beta, you can toggle read receipts via the messages info page when you click on someone's profile picture.
Love your channel ❤
For existing imessage group chats, is it as simple as adding in the Android phone number? If this is attempted today IOS advises you to create a new MMS group. Thanks!
🤣 Finally! Apple add RCS to iPhone users 👏 🙌
It's about time Apple catches up to the rest of the world
We didn’t ask for this android users and google asked for this. I could care less, you want iMessage features? Get an iphone simple
@@phire4694 no because android is better
@@phire4694 Android has all of that, except when texting iPhone users. Don't you think that maybe Apple making it worse for everyone is the problem?
@@phire4694so basically you think there should be a monopoly on texting features. That's so dumb. Apple has been the problem all along. We get "iMessage features"...it's called RCS and it works between Android phones.
This was super insightful
So do both ends have to be on the 3 main carriers for RCS to work? Or does the iPhone have to be on the 3 big carriers for RCS to work?
I would think just the iphone because as long as the android user is using google messages then rcs will work on any android phone
Can we change the green text though
I’m running iOS 18 dev beta and rcs wasn’t active last week on Verizon. I noticed it is now though when I texted someone with an android
As of writing this comment, I can tell you that rcs has come to Canada in the first public release in iOS 18. I am on fido, have not tried it yet, but some people I do see that rcs tag.
Nice! Can you do group chats with RCS on iPhone or is it limited to single users?
Yea you can do group chats and you can name them as well. Everyone will see the name. You can add and remove people from the chat as needed.
Hi. Can I use RCS messaging on MacBook Pro using S24 Ultra?
this would require the carrier use google's jibe and not their own server.
Does Google Messages have Quick Messages??? A message that you can create yourself and save it and use it as a response or let someone know quickly?
The Google keyboard has built-in custom text that you can use in any app.
Yes you are. You can add and remove people. You can change the name of the group.
I wanted to know if iPhone would properly display an in-line reply sent from Android
been having issues with sending voice notes
unfortunately I think it's imperative that Apple changes the color for RCS bubbles. the masses are probably not even going to think anything is different unless the biggest visual factor changes
Any idea how it would work with existing iMessage group chats if I switch to android?
Do you have to enable RCS ? I’m in the beta program still sends as SMS
Can you use rcs (iPhone to android with just WiFi)?
so basically iphone to iphone will still use i message as normal but iphone to android will use RCS instead of SMS? and then whatsapp will die
but its confusing if both RCS and SMS will show as a green?
It's basically impossible to send even a 40 second video over rcs. And it's hit or miss if you can get a photo to go through via rcs from Android to iPhone. Have to swap to MMS to get it to go.
Can you add and remove people in RCS groupchats?
Yes
I am not actually getting the beta version that will allow me to u send messages , I'm an Android user and have been for a really long time , mostly everyone I chat with has Android as well, any advice?
@6:27 don't be surprised i am from India and all the android OEM do not use google message as default and RCS is not a Universal feature on android either.
Curious to understand the telecommunications laws there, quite possibly the reason
@@Spoonfed78everyone uses WhatsApp. Blue vs green is a north American thing
What do you mean by "direct replies"? Can't wait to see this!
For group chats, can you name groups and set group photos? Can you add/remove members without having to create a new thread like in MMS? And finally, if an Android user is removed and all remaining users are iOS, does the group chat switch back to using iMessage?
Yes you can. And yes it should just go back to blue. Since all other users are iphone people
It is not bug that Apple device losing the RCS Messaging and going back to SMS. but it is a feature that needs to be developed.
Google Android device checks if the other (terminating) party is capable of RCS Messaging feature or not, before the originator sends the message as per design, whereas Apple being new to RCS Messaging needs to develop this feature.
Can't get rcs working on android Google messages
how do the images download? because ive tried everything and pictures sent from iphone I can't download
That works for me. I have Samsung, and one of my daughters has Apple, which limits photos, etc, now.
Do a GoogleFi video, im interested, but it's hard to find information about the current experience
I can't wait for ios18. I hate have an iPhone for work because of the constant hate in group chat
Really strange... everyone says RCS works over Wifi. I can't get txting to work over wifi. Delivery fails unless I enable cellular.
what do you mean when you say "especially for Android users in the US?"
Please keep me up to date with this. I really want to delete my Blue bubbles server 😭
Why not just keep it since you already have it?
That's so funny. I got tired of it after about a year or 2 and just made people use WhatsApp

Yes they will. Honestly, I'm pretty sure they currently do over MMS. Voice notes aren't really that big
How safe is "RCS"? I had 2 new phones pre-installed RCS with a live person I didn't know, and the 2nd phone hacked before I could get set up!?
My biggest problem is that texts dont always come through on both ends, leaving gaps in communication. Curious if anyone else is experiencing this and if this might be a fix
This is such great news. Ive been pressured to switch to iPhone 15 because 80% of my friends do have iPhones but no offense to iPhone users, aside from the best animations, it’s a really boring phone. I can’t wait to switch back to Android.
No testing on iPadOS?
That’s awesome ngl
*It's about time apple decided to upgrade to the fastest standard (RCS) messaging the pixel has been having for yrs now it's been the same messaging system for apple for them since the iPhone 3g*
Do stickers work on rcs?
Can you react to images in both places yet?
It's a small step up overtime things will get better and Apple will have to find other ways to convince their users
I might be in the minority but I don't actually like typing indicators in group chats, and their absence is one of the things I like most about iMessage group chats as they are now. I hope there will be a feature to disable the typing indicator at least for RCS.
Can you add/remove people from group chats?
Yes you can. Also you can add the name to the group example. Family. Friends co workers.
