      It's absolutely an app. I bet my life savings ($50) that if the government told Apple you have 24 hours to release an app for the Android devices to use iMessage(messages) that they already have it developed in their vault right now.

    • @jimmie_g
      @jimmie_g 7 месяцев назад +19

      @@B-RaDD No it's not. You're still confusing the app (Messages) with the messaging service (iMessage). If iMessage is an app, then that's all it would do on Apple devices: iMessage. But the app (Messages) can also send and receive SMS, MMS and now RCS messages because they are messaging services, just like iMessage.

    • @rudranilghosh2713

    • @AL5520
      @AL5520 7 месяцев назад +4

      It is actually just an app that combines text messages (and now also using RCS) and Apple's own instant messaging service just like other apps do on Android. The only reason you believe it's not an app is that Apple does not allow third party apps to do the same which makes making it a "system app" while on Android Google Messages is the "equivalent" but there are also 3rd party ones.
      The basic concept of both iOS and Android is based on Apps, even if it's an exclusive app that comes with the device and cannot be uninstalled. Apple continues to limit services to it's won system apps while Android never did but on the first Android versions the "system" apps were part of the system, like with iOS, with updates provided through the regular OS updates but that quickly change and even "system" apps are updated regularly through the regular play update system, even if the device itself does not get OS updates.

    I just wish that Apple would reach out to Google to implement E2EE between their two clients.
    They say they want to add it to the standard, but I don't think that's ever going to happen as there are members in the GSMA that explicitly do not want it added to the standard.
    That's why they say that encryption is the responsibility of the messaging clients, which is why Google implemented it the way they did.
