I really hope for the sake of everyone that uses messages that Apple will eventually make a different shade of green for RCS...because it's going to be very confusing if it looks exactly the same as SMS
I’m a member of a group chat my extended family uses for communicating about our annual reunions. All group members are on iPhones. I have one niece who’s on Android and we can’t add her because SMS contacts cannot be added after the group has been created. We’d have to recreate the group from scratch to add her.
yeah this is a known problem and I had this happen to me to...so I'm happy to hear that a solution will be coming hopefully soon I'm just glad in my closest friend group we all use Discord so we don't have to worry about this mess
So, really... nothing's going to change on the iPhone end. RCS support is just going to ensure that little things like read-receipts and "typing now" bubbles appear in cross-platform messages (i.e. the green bubble conversations). In other words, it allows Android users to see more of the things that iPhone users are able to see in blue bubble conversations. Though I'm going to guess that Apple is going to continually add more functionality and little extra things for blue bubble conversations that won't be available on green bubble conversations just to stay one step ahead of the competition. I do hope that Apple's adoption of RCS will include end to end encryption of green bubble conversations, though. That would be really great.

There are several changes on the iPhone end. You no longer get texts from your friends on a group text reminding you that your photos and videos got degraded to unwatchable. For over a decade that’s been the biggest problem when texting between platforms. You will also get read receipts and typing indicators when interacting with Android users. So actually several changes on your end
@@drdrew3You just wrote what they wrote. Better communication across platforms but as far as just Apple devices to Apple devices, RCS adds absolutely nothing.
Apple has already stated that they won’t add end to end encryption unless the GSMA standardizes it. They are refusing to use Google encryption for whatever reason.
@@Deepkick679 I'm not surprised at that, seeing as how Apple doesn't really want to implement RCS into the iPhone system, and it's only doing it most likely due to pressure from the EU. As a company trying to market the superiority of its products, it probably makes no sense to add end-to-end encryption since Apple's own iMessages system is already end-to-end encrypted, and it sees its system as superior to RCS. I would guess that they are refusing to use Google's encryption because they don't trust it to be secure enough.
It's going to be the same as SMS. Like I said in the video, the early builds of iOS 18 don't support end to end encryption. Without that, it will be as secure/private as SMS is. If Apple does add E2EE, then it will be closer to iMessage.
@@AppleInsider But even if there will be an E2EE, my message will end up on a device controlled by Google's Android. And RCS is deeply integrated into Android, I suppose. So different than Apps like Signal, which is just running on Android... I hope you get my point of concern.

This will cover all iOS 18 iPhones as well as most Android phones as it was added to Google Messages a few years ago. There may be stragglers on both sides that won't be compatible but it will be largely available. Plus it needs to start somewhere. In a few years, near 100% of phones will have it.

It will now support Android to iPhone and iPhone to Android messaging. So high-res videos and pictures, typing indicators, read receipts, in the future encryption, etc. So it does benefit iPhone and Android users.
