Iam an Apple fanboy, but the truth is that Apple has shifted to playing it safe, abandoning the innovation that once defined the company. Staying at the top requires taking risks, a quality this generation of Apple leadership seems unwilling to embrace. It’s disappointing from a brand that once revolutionized the industry.

M-series chips wasn't a risk? First USB-C only desktops and laptops wasn't a risk? Integration straight into ChatGPT wasn't a risk? Setting off on Private Cloud Compute isn't a bold journey? Perhaps we've all just become so used to the revolutionary playbook that we fail to be shocked and awed by it. But it doesn't mean it's not there.

I agree. For example I upgraded from iPhone 11 Pro Max to 16 Pro Max and --Apple Intelligence aside-- they're basically still the same phone. YET for some reason a plethora of tiny updates has come together to make it a significant upgrade. I'm not saying Apple couldn't do even better--I'd like to see more stability, efficiency, optimization, bug fixes, and evolving the UI to the reality of it being 6.9" where your thumb can't reach the top to swipe. But all my newer Apple devices are definitively BETTER than the older Apple products I loved, so claiming they're going down the tubes is a bit exaggerated. But yeah we need a little flurry of optimization, efficiency, debugging, and refining what's been done so far.

Vary the sentence length, follow the Elements of Style, and write in the style of [Your favorite Author, but not Hemingway or Faulkner]. Write for a 7th grade audience using simple words with impact. .... If you search through some of the earlier RUclips videos for 'writing like a person', you may find specific prompt suggestions that will generate reasonable prose.

Then there was antennagate with iPhone 4, and bendgate with iPhone 6.

I just think adding a silly button for the camera was just dumb when my action button already can do that. My old M1 MacBook Air went from kernel crashing daily, to Safari crashing hourly, to it not updating, to iCloud not syncing, to the system wiping my desktop twice and finally the laptop getting bricked due to iCloud issues. Nail on the head. Your usage of the word “lazy” is spot on. I finally had to stop buying the new products, they just aren’t worth it and it’s clear Apple is not trying. For those old enough, the Apple of the early 2000s was just incredible. Everything just worked, and not only that - Apple was able to SEPARATE themselves from their competitors dramatically (the primary one being the PC, but also MP3 players etc). Apple was such an alternative to “mundane” PCs and marketed themselves that way, as being for creatives and performers. In 2024, Apple can’t separate itself. The competition is incredibly strong and DEFINITELY more innovative. Apple’s become the kind of company I think Steve Jobs would make fun of back in the day (RIP). I say this as someone who owns a ridiculous number of Apple products. I’m so entrenched in their ecosystem I have zero interest in resetting all of that up on other platforms.
And I think Apple knows this, and relies on it way too much.

      But I take your point.
Nowadays my M series products don’t even even start up fast or load music efficiently like back in the day. My AVP sucks at even syncing its photos with my other devices. To me, Apple products have a lot of power but they’ve become more clunky and less streamlined. Just my opinion.

I’m no techie, but I disagree. What made Apple and so many other companies great wasn’t that they gave the masses what they wanted, they gave them what they needed. Henry Ford said it best, when talking about his cars. Before he made one, if you asked the average person how to make travel better, they described a more efficient horse. Not a car. Apple used to have that. They’ve become such a massive company they have no choice but to listen to their consumers, what they want, and rightfully so. But it is a double edged sword. Could our want for the perfect iPhone or product X be the deterrent of “the next big thing?”
I don’t have the answer to this “question” and no one does. Just a thought. Thanks for making tech news consumable for those of us who passively enjoy Apple.

Henry Ford never said this quote.
The earliest linkage known between the saying and Henry Ford appeared in “The Cruise Industry News Quarterly” in 1999.
John McNeece, a cruise ship designer, speculated about the desires of Henry Ford’s potential customers.
John McNeece: “There is a problem trying to figure out what people want by canvassing them. I mean, if Henry Ford canvassed people on whether or not he should build a motor car, they’d probably tell him what they really wanted was a faster horse.
Interestingly, the words above were not credited directly to Ford. The earliest ascription to Ford appeared in a letter sent to the UK publication Marketing Week in 2001:
„Being market-led implies being led by the consumer - and consumers are bad at coming up with innovations (Henry Ford’s quote: “If I had asked my customers what they wanted they would have said a faster horse” springs to mind…)“
Yet Henry Ford died in 1947, so the evidence connecting him to the quotation appears to be very weak.

I would say they couldn’t come up with much without him. They are way too big now for an innovation first CEO. There’s too much pressure from the shareholders. I think on a lot of points you are right however, I also think that this is a tech-industry problem and not an Apple one. I think we as people, nearly hit the pinnacle of "life-changing" products, that do not feel gimmicky to the average joe. For example, for those who are into CES, there are A LOT of awesome tech created everyday, very useful but it's not taking off. For the few variables either feeling gimmicky to people, or it's just not a dramatic shift for people.
Smart-glasses are starting to be the next "hot-item" but I think that will only go so until there's a huge cultural shift... that can go for any tech product.

My 13 has been so stable over the years, but people with newer iphones are always complaining more. I'm thinking of going to a pixel with graphene os when my 13pro stops being supported at this point rather than another iphone if Apple keeps it's current trajectory

13 was a great year. 16 is also, though I will caution everyone that early revs of iOS 18 have so much new functions stuffed inside that it's not quite as stable as the rock solid 17.6. But it'll get there. My recommendation for any owner is to upgrade every 4 years, plus or minus. 13 Pro owners should definitely wait it out for 17 Pro, in my opinion.

Honestly I love iPhone now. I use to hate iPhone and be a strictly android guy Samsung to be exact I have an s24. But I got iPhone 15 and iOS 18 with RCS and all the customization options they finally decided to add and the fluidity of the software. I honestly find it hard to even pick up my Samsung, my number is mainly on my iPhone and the times I do try and use my s24 I end up going right back. I really do feel like with iOS 18 there software is finally for the most part better then what it use to be. Before I wouldn’t dare touch Apple. I feel as if my Samsung no longer has that appeal with software customization and screen. Like yeah it’s cool but iPhone just does it smoother. Only thing I feel Apple needs is back gesture.

Everything is fine. What’s happening with Apple is a symptom of what’s happening in the market - their stocks are doing great. The worst thing (stock-market-wise)a top publicly traded company can do now is to do nothing; so companies playing “the game” just make (a) change(s) for the sake of change

100% agree - my iPhone had enough bugs that it felt like how people used to talk about cheap Androids 10 years ago. iOS18 made it crash all the time, and Apple apps would freeze up the phone (even features like the built in translate), so I downloaded alternatives that actually work. I shifted to a budget Motorola and now have a phone that "just works" again. Also bought an iPad Mini 7 thinking I'll have at least one Apple device, but man in comparison to a Galaxy Tab it sucks - I returned it.

The reason the iPhone has been pretty much the same thing every year recently is because there isn’t much more you can do to make it better or more practical yet. There will have to be a new technological breakthrough to see rapid development in Apple’s products again. This has been the case for all technology throughout history.

One of the reasons the vision pro didn’t have the same impact as the first iphone is because the size of the market these products tried to disrupt.

It’s making every part of the experience worse as the highly talented people are driven away, leaving only subpar workers they can pay less.
