If you think about it, the unknown messages folder IS JUST THAT! Google's spam folder will still have to be scanned through to make sure you are not deleting anything from someone you know - here you are doing just the same thing, except it's called 'unknown messages', which it not only technically correct, but more user friendly to boot - which is always an APPLE trait!!!
@@gbsailing9436Google Messages does a better job at knowing what is actually spam vs Apple's catch all approach of just putting anything not in your contacts in a separate folder.
@@megatronskneecap there is a saying; "you can walk away from a conversation leaving a person wondering whether you're an idiot or not, or you can open your mouth and remove all doubt from their minds." not having an iPhone, and not knowing anything about them you won't know all the technological security advancements that Apple has implemented - which then having brought to better user security to market, Google and Samsung have had to duplicate and install on their phones to make their user experience secure. For example: when you pay for an item with Apple Pay using your phone or watch, you are not handing over your credit card details to the merchant. You are only giving the merchant a unique ID identifying number that Apple assigns solely to you and your phone or watch, and is linked with your bank account - not the credit card number. So this means that contactless payments via Wi-Fi and Bluetooth are totally secure and cannot be scanned or traced back to your account by a third-party standing nearby. This is only one example of the many security features that Apple has implemented which then have had to be copied duplicated by Samsung and Google to keep in the so-called race for Customer security. I've been getting a number of these messages over the past couple months. Immediately delete them but I wish Apple would allow you to choose what can be classified as junk. Seems like it just randomly gives you that option.
Got a link as part of iMessage that I needed to get the info on, I normally wouldn’t but stupidity rain and did. The link worked without issue, Norton didn’t flag it, but think might have been a screen scraper. Any suggestions on how to find it and remove??
Hey Aaron, I think you could have told people about the function at around 03:14. Here under 'unknown messages' you can go in and ask to 'select messages' and have an option to delete straight away without having to go open each message and read it - and possibly accidentally click on the message. The beauty here is that if your iPhone doesn't recognised the number you can delete a whole list of them right off the bat - never even opening them. Thanks for all your content.
Yep. My phone has been super slow and glitched after the latest update. I am almost certain i have some sort of malware. I never click any links but there is something no right.
on the filter instructions under 18.2.1 it is now a heading of message filtering and below that it says unknown& Spam, click on this and get to a new settings screen where your filter unknown sends slider is lcoated.
Hey Aaron, by the way, there’s a bug on 18.3 beta 2 where After setting a photo or Memoji as the new profile picture for apple account in settings, the photo is zoomed out farther than the preview initially showed before pressing "done".
I've seen several of those fake delivery text messages, sometimes getting 3 of them in one day. Since I have the official shipping companies added in my contact list, I can easily tell when fake ones come in, so I know not to click on anything. Keeping the official shipping apps installed is a good secondary checkpoint, too.
I might not fully understand this, so I’d like some clarification. By making the link clickable, am I already sharing my personal data with an attacker? Or does making the link clickable simply create the possibility of clicking it, which could then lead to sharing my data? I’m not sure what 'activating the link to be clickable' actually means.
It's not a bug; it's how it works and if you just fell off the scam turnip truck, you'll fall for anything. I get those messages all the time and it's quite obvious what they are. Block and delete.
Useful video Aaron! The filter unknown senders option in Messages was on by default on my device. Good thing. I haven't had this scam. Whether it's a caller or a text, I always delete it and block the person if I don't know them. If at a later date I find out that it was from someone I know, I exchange numbers with the person so it doesn't happen again to the specific person.
I truly appreciate you warning me and everyone out there about these scammers and how to keep our devices safe. This was so incredibly helpful Aaron. Thank you so much.
i get these amazon or ups delivery updates a lot, i just started replying to insult to them and realized now the links turn clickable. i still don't click em but good catch. never appreciated or realized the links they sent were always sent as unclickable texts before
I wish Apple would separate out security updates from feature updates and not mix them together. Let the users decide when to upgrade for security and not have to deal with buggy feature updates. Some of us really like the current version IOS we're on and only interested in keeping it safe but not interested in other features that may contribute to increased cpu usage and battery life.
Thank you for sharing this information with us, Aaron. I’ve actually received one of these text messages myself, so I’ve deleted it. As always, you’re very helpful. Thank you.

Honestly, this isn't really a "vulnerability". It's kind of common sense not to click on unknown links from random unknown messages. At least I thought it was... but apparently some people do, I guess. 🤷♂ Also, it's not specific to iphones or imessage. They send the same crap to Androids, Macs, PCs or whatever.
