I somewhat miss Samsung messages because in true Google fashion, Google messages still is bare bones. On the other hand i understand why Google would want a truly universal messages app in Android.
I mean recently, they've made tons of changes to google messages, in the last year alone its gotten so much better, its not amazing and is still basic like you said, but much improved over how barebones it was a year ago.
@jspring86 I feel like they would only do that if samsung told them to. But since most people will just leave it as default when first setting up the phone, I highly doubt they'll care. Plus Google is similar enough to imessage to where those who are use to it wouldn't want to switch & lose those functionalities

@@ANewEvilRising - No. Samsung messages uses SMS which is now too limited in this day and age. It appears that Samsung whose OS is Android is going to move to RCS. Since Android is developed by Google and Google is going to RCS, Samsung has little choice but to change too. Some people think this is a reason for Samsung to develop its own OS as Apple has done. At this point, that might be a major, if not impossible, challenge for Samsung.
@lynneanderson4255 so really there's no choice but to switch to Google messaging app? If we stick with samsungs then what? Only downside is it will be very bare bones? That's not much of a issue at all for me who only sends text and that's it. Is security going to be an issue?

It's just too bad Samsung has seemingly dropped the most important function for their proprietary messaging app to be worth using.
It makes no sense to me either. Especially these Samsung phones being marketed as a premium device, yet native apps, especially an essential app like a messaging service being pushed to the side purposely, all in favour of another brand's product. It is almost as if Google is providing Samsung some sort of financial benefit to push users to use their software...
@jack11224 it's the outcome of capitalism. One or two players. Android was open, then after winning, google closed it. There is no excuse for this. This just pisses me off. You shouldn't be able to take away something that was there when I bought the phone! I love Samsung messaging. I do use the RCS function. Being able to put personal photos as background for texts is essential and Google doesn't do that. I'm never going to use Google messaging. Don't trust Google and avoid as much as possible.

Just another way of Google getting your information. You'll be messaging someone about toilet roll and all you will see on adverts is toilet rolls..... 😂😂😂
My favorite feature on Samsung messages was the private notifications setting. So if you look at your notifications, it will only show the sender, not the message contents (it simply says "New Message"). On GM, there's no setting, so you can see the message content. It's helpful if someone is holding your phone for any reason or it's connected to the car.

The thing that drives me nuts the most is that Google messages on Samsung does not allow you to change the notification sound for incoming messages. I know you can change it on a per contact basis, but I want all texts to be one sound and all other notifications to be another sound. Works fine on my Pixel, but not on my Samsung.
I have text messages from my deceased son from before he died 3 years ago and I can't get those switched over from Samsung messages to Google messages, any suggestions? I DON'T want to lose those as I read them often and they bring me comfort...TIA
Samsung Message is way better and I will continue to use it with or without RCS. People are just going to get that link to see the higher-resolution media that I send them.
Categories, custom ringtones/notification alerts for group texts, custom wallpaper, timed messages, AR emoji, samsung app integration, are all reasons I'm not moving off of my Samsung Messages or S23U. I havent been able to see real time replies for a while now with Samsung Messages, so its not a big deal to not have it moving forward, compared to the customizable things i love that make each text with my contacts unique
Made the change a month ago. It's also working well with my Ultra Watch. I think it will get better over time. I really like seeing a reply is coming to me in google messages. Thanks for posting!
Being able to easily see all shared attachments is a huge thing for me, and Google messages doesn't have that functionality. I don't download every photo I get, and sometimes I need to go back and find one.
Read receipts and reacts already work without rcs. Google messages translates reacts from non-smartphones/iphones without rcs, and read reciepts are a feature or sms
Samsung messages also changes the message icon to match the current theme icons being used. Google messages just has a blue voice/chat box which stands out like a sore thumb in the theme.
I've been using Google Messages for sometime now. I like it. I used Samsung Messages in the past on my older devices but switched over to Google probably 3+ years ago.
What I don't like about Google behavior... Is that lot of time they kill a good app or project... I don't hope it will happen to this rcs system too! I'm rocking the Samsung rcs btw
It doesn't sit right with me that you are showing an OTP code for your google account with a number and timestamp on it. I'm no security expert, but this seems inadvisable.
I used messages+ and I was able to change the vibration notification when I got a text so it was different from all of my other notifications. Now that I felt forced to switch to Google messages all of my notifications are the same and I can't tell if I got a email or someone messsges me while it's in my pocket which is very annoying.
what I have noticed with RCS. In google message you can not send a video in a group conversation. you would need to send the videos or Gifs individually. presently I can do that with samsung message. but if they phase it out. you can not do that.
Not sure you mentioned this but in a text convo, Samsung allows you to view all images shared during the convo in one location. I used that a lot. Similar to Microsoft Teams allowing you to view all files shared in a particular chat. If Google messages does that, I've never figured out how.
I'm just annoyed Google messages forces you to log in with an email address. It says that you can skip that process and Even lets you do so the first time you download it. But eventually when you open up the app you will get a screen prompting you to log in and you will not be able to get past this screen without doing so. Even closing and opening the app will cause the screen to reappear. The only solution is to uninstall it completely and reinstall. I'm not doing that every time Google decides it wants to collect my information.
Apple users were having a hard time getting ahold of me through their message app, and the fix for them was send as sms when rcs isn't available. It's in apples message app settings.
I don't fully think Samsung is exiting... on my Flip6 it asks if I want to use Chat Settings and that info and stuff is sent to Google and in the about section it directs to links to Google about RCS via them. I think they are ditching carrier RCS but implementing some RCS via Jibe. My app version on my Flip6 is 15.7.01.3. RCS via this worked with Google Messages users and iPhone RCS. My S24 was not the same higher version and only offered advanced messaging via ATT RCS.
Thanks for the insight! I'm on T-Mobile myself. Switching back to Samsung Messages after hearing Jeff's video, I still have RCS features so.. Hmm... Ah, T-Mobile US, that is..
@@jspring86 So today is Jan 18th - I had a random idea and tested it out. I'm on AT&T. I did a factory reset of my Flip6 (my eSIM was on my Pixel 9 Pro) and did not copy anything over. Before moving my eSIM, immediately after setting up I installed Samsung Messages and went in and made it the default before ever even opening Google Messages. I transferred my eSIM over, restarted my phone, opened up Samsung Messages and received the RCS notice to opt-in (the version that uses Jibe, not AT&T Advanced Messaing) and behold it auto-registered me for RCS no issues. I really feel that there is more going on with Samsung Messages than we are being told with the push to Google Messages when it's apparent the standalone one is registering via Jibe. I don't have reactions but me and anyone I message rarely use them.
These smartphones are so complex that even after 20 years of using them I still learn something new. I hope Google messages incorporates all the features of Samsung messages we're losing when migrating.
Silencing notifications is a chore on Google messages. You have to effectively block and report as spam which feels like an extreme because those messages may have some use like bank statements, but don't wanna be bothered by the notifs. In Samsung messages, you can simply mute a contact
I switched to Google messages when I got my S23 just for the reactions. Because on Samsung messages, when someone reacts, it came through as a text message. But I do miss the customization of Samsung messages.
The sorting categories is the big one for me! I use Google messages now because RCS support is a requirement for me now. Now I don't have to use other apps for encrypted conversations and better posting experience... but man I miss sorting categories!
I dont like how i cant keep background apps open and text back thru the notification bubble. Or hard press to create a floating icon of messages while fully enjoying Netflix or YT.
A HUGE benefit to Google Messages that yiu failed to mention is that many of us have MacBooks and Android phones. Google Messages has a Chrome client, allowing synchronized messaging on your Apple laptop. I like Samsung Messaging better, but totally need the sync ability with Apple.
@@jspring86After I got a Mac the Samsung phone stayed in service for 6 more months. And then the iPhone 16 got released. The integration of MacOS and iOS is just too good that the old phone didn’t make sense for me anymore. I guess that many Mac users will do the same after some time.
@@Netzwerkdose I dont disagree...completely. Was an iPhone user for many, many, many years. Got real tired of Apple charging me $1000+ a year to purchase the same phone hardware with a new name. No folding, no smaller size. No choice. Android has been a joy to customize. I do miss Airdrop as I am a photographer, but I found an android app that is almost as good. I think there would would be more people like me if they took time to solve any differences.
@@jspring86 You can argue that and you are probably right, but I think its because they dont realize how little difference there is if you take time to find solutions like this for any gaps. I hated Windows, and I came to resent Apple for the iPhone 16, 15, 14, 13, 12, 11, 10, 9, 8, 7, and 6 hardware being the same as iPhone 5 and 4. Im will no longer pay big money to not have a hardware choice, customization choice, and software choices.
I used to use Samsung Messages for the customized backgrounds. Since i started using Google Messages, ive warmed up to it. I like being able to see when iphones are typing, i can schedule send, i can do reactions, gifs, etc. Also Google filters out & blocks spam texts.
Apart from in the future them adding support to add in samsung notes, i use google apps over samsung stock apps. Google messages is quick, bigger files supported means no "message not sent file size too large"
You said that Samsung is phasing out RCS in their messages app "in the US". Is it just the US or is it a worldwide thing? If just the US, is there any specific reasons for it? Regulations? Lawsuits? I mean, it seems like an odd thing to remove, unless they are going to replace it with something better.
I wish google messages supported proper screen display on the zfold6 why cant the conversation span between both halfs on the large screen. Its so annoying to type and have to look at the right side of the screen then the center or miss clicking on a contact when just scrolling messages
After your recent video regarding this issue, I installed and am running Google Messages. The only things that I like better on Google Messages are 1) better media quality, and 2) the emoji popup. I tried changing the appearance (colors) and it changed my whole phone, and not for the better. I put it back. The other thing I dont like is having to drag the popup notification thumbnails down to the "Circle X" at the bottom of the screen to get rid of them. Big annoyance!
I mean anyone has to pay to get RCS certified by the carriers thats just the business. Google had to pay too. Samsung decided it's cheaper to just move to Google Messages then to pay to get their own app certified. Google is a close partner for them they see it as a win win
I use google messages for how easy it is to setup and use. But I miss some of the power user features like organizing chats and pinning chats. RCS is just too important to have.
I used to use an app on an old phone called Messages+ and it had th3 ability to schedule when a message would be sent to someone so if I wanted to send something in the middle of the night I didn't have to send it right then and there. You can type something in and save it as a draft but that only lets you save a single message and you have to go back later and send it so if for some reason you're sleeping in really late the message won't be sent in the morning if you want it to be sent in the morning
Im currently using dual sim on my galaxy phone. One for work and another for personal use. Tried using google messages and you cant even assign different message alert tones to different numbers. Google messages is really bare bones and not mature enough to take the place of samsung messages
Bring message categories back to Google Messages and be able to use samsung emoji, also if I want to share photos or videos open up samsung gallery or give the the option as a default. Not everyone uses Google photos. I already shared with Samsung Members.
I just got the Samsung A15 (had A10e). I was able to delete parts of a text message. Can’t with A15. I haven’t seen where I can do talk to text either. I’m hoping they will include these things when they update at some point.
thanks for the video. I came from iPhone and my family is still on that. I bought a s24+ a month ago and started using google messages due to rcs support. now that I watched your video i am going to start usign samsung message as well. I have text messages from my deceased son from before he died 3 years ago and I can't get those switched over from Samsung messages to Google messages, any suggestions? I DON'T want to lose those as I read them often and they bring me comfort...TIA
You could screenshot them
Back up your data. It backs up messages, phone logs, apps, home screen, ect. If you ever switch phones or if you lose stuff, you can back it all up
Samsung Message is way better and I will continue to use it with or without RCS. People are just going to get that link to see the higher-resolution media that I send them.
The only way i found to bypass the quality issue is through quickshare which ain't a problem for me unless if the recipient isnt a Samsung user
If they removing samsung messages, what happens to people's Theme purchases? I purchased samsung theme wallpaper based on the keyboard.
Not true. I have a separate text sound on my S24 Ultra, and for certain contacts as well.
One thing that I miss the most is favorite contacts, it is simply missing in Google messages
A great one indeed!!
Made the change a month ago. It's also working well with my Ultra Watch. I think it will get better over time. I really like seeing a reply is coming to me in google messages. Thanks for posting!
Yeah i think they will collaborate to add some samsung messages features eventually, especially if people give that feedback.
@@jspring86 Do you know where we can go to express it?
Being able to easily see all shared attachments is a huge thing for me, and Google messages doesn't have that functionality. I don't download every photo I get, and sometimes I need to go back and find one.
Read receipts and reacts already work without rcs. Google messages translates reacts from non-smartphones/iphones without rcs, and read reciepts are a feature or sms
Samsung messages also changes the message icon to match the current theme icons being used. Google messages just has a blue voice/chat box which stands out like a sore thumb in the theme.
And you can't customize the background on Google
Or the font,I hate it
I've been using Google Messages for sometime now. I like it. I used Samsung Messages in the past on my older devices but switched over to Google probably 3+ years ago.
What I don't like about Google behavior... Is that lot of time they kill a good app or project... I don't hope it will happen to this rcs system too! I'm rocking the Samsung rcs btw
Why would they remove RCS?
It doesn't sit right with me that you are showing an OTP code for your google account with a number and timestamp on it. I'm no security expert, but this seems inadvisable.
They should make Samsung message app RCS
I used messages+ and I was able to change the vibration notification when I got a text so it was different from all of my other notifications. Now that I felt forced to switch to Google messages all of my notifications are the same and I can't tell if I got a email or someone messsges me while it's in my pocket which is very annoying.
Can you use both? Use Samsung messages for most stuff and use Google messages for RCS?
what I have noticed with RCS.
If I change the font on my phone Google messages won't have the font change.
Oh yay... and people are saying this is a good thing to happen...
Why would it remove rcs support? Rcs is much much better than sms, because it makes texting a whole lot better.
Money. It costs Samsung money to get certified for RCS on all US carriers.
@jspring86 oh (and to be honest, I only read the video title, I don't have the time to watch the video right now).
@@jspring86 but samsung has soo much money!
Well I'm running Google Messages on my Fold 6, but there is no option to change chat colors.
Tmobile hasn't said they're pulling RCS fully yet. Only Verizon, but still not a great sign as the carriers usually follow one another here.
@amanda907 what's going on is that Samsung is getting paid by Google to push it.
@ Well too bad LOL as long as RCS keeps working on SM I am staying there \o/ Especially since it can still register via Google Chat services
Donde encuentro ese reloj de la pantalla del teléfono de la derecha? 0:04
Great content. Question the phone on the left, were did you get the home screen wallpaper from🤔
From that josh guy on X he made a high res version of s25 ultra stock wallpaper
Can Google messages export and imports contacts like Samsung messages? That's important to me with backups
My 24u came with Google messaging preinstalled. There is no point to maintain two of these apps.
So when this rolls out
Will i still be able to use samsung messages?
How do you place your chosen apps into that widget with the background onto your home screen?!
Personal RCS has never worked for me. It always shoots back my message a day later telling to retry with sms/mms.
Is there a why? I'm in Canada and still have RCS on samsung messages, just curious
So will this switch also include other messaging apps from the Google Playstore?
I switched to Google messages when I got my S23 just for the reactions. Because on Samsung messages, when someone reacts, it came through as a text message. But I do miss the customization of Samsung messages.
The sorting categories is the big one for me! I use Google messages now because RCS support is a requirement for me now. Now I don't have to use other apps for encrypted conversations and better posting experience... but man I miss sorting categories!
Where did you get that wallpaper? ❤
Would you mind sharing which KWGT widget you are currently using in this video? Thank you.
One4kwgt pro pack!
@jspring86 Thank you. Wishing you and your family a Merry Christmas and a blessed New Year!
My google app the rcs chat wont turn on any longer , it been like this for about a weer
I dont like how i cant keep background apps open and text back thru the notification bubble. Or hard press to create a floating icon of messages while fully enjoying Netflix or YT.
I think Samsung must keep the Samsung Messages features please 🙏 @Samsung
I still find it difficult to share content through google messages, where it doesn't pull up previous conversations properly or makes it difficult.
A HUGE benefit to Google Messages that yiu failed to mention is that many of us have MacBooks and Android phones. Google Messages has a Chrome client, allowing synchronized messaging on your Apple laptop. I like Samsung Messaging better, but totally need the sync ability with Apple.
Yes but i would argue that those of using mac and Samsung phone are in a minority. I use a mac too but not many galaxy users do in my experience.
There's a Google client on chrome? Where can one get that?
Google messages does not have link share built in like Samsung messages. Therefore is it actually harder to send larger videos RCS or not lol.
This is a good point!
another thing, google messages when someone sends a message. It delays 2 or 3 seconds and samsung messages just delay one second is super fast.
Whats next google settings?
Apart from in the future them adding support to add in samsung notes, i use google apps over samsung stock apps. Google messages is quick, bigger files supported means no "message not sent file size too large"
Where can i find that wallpaper one the left?
You said that Samsung is phasing out RCS in their messages app "in the US". Is it just the US or is it a worldwide thing? If just the US, is there any specific reasons for it? Regulations? Lawsuits?
I mean, it seems like an odd thing to remove, unless they are going to replace it with something better.
Is this for only US or worldwide
US, Canada, and parts of Europe have all started ending RCS in Samsung Messages
I moved to Google messages about 6 months ago. Does the job and works better than Samsung messages ever did without RCS.
How to get alert sound when a message comes in Google Message?
I've also noticed they don't always carry over all the messages you have saved once you switch to Google messages
Hi Jeff thanks for the information. I'm not switching. I love the ability to customize the app. I don't RCS.
I wish google messages supported proper screen display on the zfold6 why cant the conversation span between both halfs on the large screen. Its so annoying to type and have to look at the right side of the screen then the center or miss clicking on a contact when just scrolling messages
Ia it only in the us?
Where can I get that black wallpaper?
After your recent video regarding this issue, I installed and am running Google Messages. The only things that I like better on Google Messages are 1) better media quality, and 2) the emoji popup. I tried changing the appearance (colors) and it changed my whole phone, and not for the better. I put it back. The other thing I dont like is having to drag the popup notification thumbnails down to the "Circle X" at the bottom of the screen to get rid of them. Big annoyance!
What alternativedo we have to google?
Phasing out or US corp charging Samsung to use RCS in US so Google can continue to be a monopoly
I mean anyone has to pay to get RCS certified by the carriers thats just the business. Google had to pay too. Samsung decided it's cheaper to just move to Google Messages then to pay to get their own app certified. Google is a close partner for them they see it as a win win
Does this affect older phones? I try not to update my older galaxy smartphones
The only thinf i dont like about the read receipt, is that it doesnt say delivered, and read. It just shows like check bubbles, which i dont like
A great video, Jeff. Google messages is really starting to grow on me. Merry Christmas and happy New Year to you and the family brother.
Merry christmas Paul!! 🎅
I use google messages for how easy it is to setup and use. But I miss some of the power user features like organizing chats and pinning chats. RCS is just too important to have.
Where do I get that dark wallpaper from? Love it. Phone on the left
You can use the send later option now in Google message.
Can you send google messages to others when abroad with rcs free like i message on i phone
Why should they stop rcs on carriers when iphone rcs goes pnly true carriers?
Im currently using dual sim on my galaxy phone. One for work and another for personal use. Tried using google messages and you cant even assign different message alert tones to different numbers. Google messages is really bare bones and not mature enough to take the place of samsung messages
Bring message categories back to Google Messages and be able to use samsung emoji, also if I want to share photos or videos open up samsung gallery or give the the option as a default. Not everyone uses Google photos. I already shared with Samsung Members.
Is your main s24 ultra the one with one UI 7 software
Yes! It's the only phone im mostly using right now aside from the z fold special edition
I just got the Samsung A15 (had A10e). I was able to delete parts of a text message. Can’t with A15. I haven’t seen where I can do talk to text either. I’m hoping they will include these things when they update at some point.
How do I know which is which? Incredibly confishing that theyre both just called 'Messages'
Had no option google messages kept being the default sms app even though I wanted to use samsung messages app.
I been lost rcs messaging 3-4 months ago, I was able to send up to 30 pictures at once now only been able to send 2 at a time
I'm bummed about Verizon messages going away. I hate Google messages.
In Google messages I cannot use the push pin to keep a conversation at the top of the list so that's its easy to find.
thanks for the video. I came from iPhone and my family is still on that. I bought a s24+ a month ago and started using google messages due to rcs support. now that I watched your video i am going to start usign samsung message as well. So, my answer is use BOTH messagng apps - google for group chat with iphone users and samsung for individual text. Is that too much to ask
