My wife and I have planned several trips and were able to find locations, create a list of our itinerary and use all kinds of transportation. However, Waze is looking interesting for when I'm back here at home in the US

I also find Apple Maps predictions to be much more accurate than Waze, with Waze usually being real time, while Apple Maps is much more predicting (and precise). When I tried to use both to compare on a 9h trip, Apple Maps was precise at 20 minutes, while Waze estimated that I would arrive 1h30 minutes before the real arrival, due to the traffic jam at the entrance of the city during rush hour. I also don't use G Maps because I find the app way to cluttered, and when I look for some shops/restaurant, I do a quick search one Apple Maps and go on Google on internet if I want more infos.

The only thing i don't like about Waze is that it forces you to look at your phone screen when making exits, which is bad especially when you're driving to a place for the first time. Example is in their voice commands Google Maps: In 200feet, keep right and take Exit 150 (without looking at your phone, you already know the Exit number) WaZE: In 200feet, exit right (WHAT'S THE EXIT NUMBER WAZE!! Apple gives lane assist instructions in the UK and the diagrams of complex junctions are better, especially in London. Waze does let you have offline maps Apple and google do use crowdsourcing. Apple’s graphics are more detailed than Waze and Google Waze and to a larger extent google tell you that the route found is x minutes longer than usual due to traffic, but Apple doesn’t do that Apple Maps tells you when there’s a better route (due to less traffic) and tells you what that route is, Waze doesn’t, it just says ‘we’ve found a better route’ I find that Apple Maps won’t reroute if there’s only a small amount of time saving but the route is more complex, depending on time saved. It’s just more conservative than Waze Overall, I use both Waze and Apple Maps, they’re both brilliant, give accurate routes and are easy to use. I live in the UK
Google Maps actually does have Speed Limit Information. Google added that feature in 2019. It may not be available where you live or you did not update the app when there was a new update
It looks like the features can change a lot depending on your country - in UK Google maps has basically all of the navigation features you mentioned. It would also be interesting to see how each app compares with redirecting based on live traffic, because this can use data from other people who are using the app and other sources, and I find Google is very good at finding the fastest route when there is bad traffic or road closures.
Waze use experience is heavily rely on the user base. In my country there are not enough people using waze, so the traffic condition will not be reported and updated as i wanted to. The biggest impact is the ETA, it’s just too inaccurate. Another downside of waze is for me the voice prompts are a little bit too slow, which makes me miss the corner a lot of times.
@@IDTR Indonesia. On Google Maps, the lane assist feature appears below the direction. Only on highway and major road though. As for adding report, there is a + button on the lower right corner, opposite of the speedometer.
0:58 Apple Maps also provides lane assist features on certain regions. It appears yours is not supported, which is why you didn't see the feature. However, if you go to the US or other countries that support these rich features, you'll see it.
So for me in Germany, Google Maps talks a lot more. 1km, 500m, 250m and directly in front of an exit on the Highway. And also the exact lane I need to use and if I need to stay to the Right or Left. And for the Gas stuff, the same. Google can more. It can show me the prices (For the type I choose.) directly on the Map while driving. And when I click the station, it will show me the price of every type.
I have an android Pixel phone, and I have tried both Google Maps and Waze. I prefer Waze, and feel it is easier to use, and more likely to alter navigation favorably as traffic conditions evolve. I think that the more drivers participate in these apps, the more smoothly we can negotiate inevitable ebb and flow of traffic!
Google maps in india has the ability to report but it only comes up when in a navigation mode but it shows the reports made by others on the normal map
In the UK, Google and Waze barely show any difference for driving in my opinion. Important to mention that because they're owned by Google they both share data. The traffic data is practically the same. Just that Waze has way more alerts going off.
I'm using here maps for navigation for one major reason. It's the only app where I can set a maximum travel speed. Because I'm not traveling faster than 100 km/h, every navigation app gets travel times really wrong, which is kind of a deal breaker. Here maps is not a great app though and it's worse than the others. But accurate travel times are important to me.
Interestingly, in Sweden and Brazil google maps shows the speed limit (though a bit unreliable), shows lanes to keep most of the time and also speed cameras.
I've been using Google maps for delivery and it's literally here in US has all the same things that waze has. I think apart from speed traps, however I sometimes get a question from Google maps asking me if it's a speed trap or if speed trap still there
For vehicle selection, I think Waze should get less points. While. Google maps offer all types of engines, Waze only offers Petrol and electric. I have a hybrid, and only Google gives me the option and better route for hybrid driving. I used all three in the UK, France and Benin, and I always go back to Google maps. Waze is amazing in town and for police reporting, but Google maps is better for long journey. Additionally I get the report feature in Google maps in the 3 countries I tested it. Overall, I guess it depends on each person's car and location. 😊
Google maps now also has the lane assist, maps is also integrating the report features. I live in belgium it shows speed limits. Maps has the same options as waze. It makes sense google owns waze now. And it looks like they are integrating it faetures
Android Auto shows the speed cams on the map, by using nice orange/yellow icons. Also, Waze doesn't support HUD in my car, whereas Android Auto is fully integrated and shows all the main details on the heads up display too.
for the purposes of a delivery driver google maps is the only way since it has photos of the location/ house before you leave . Also Gmaps has navigation witht he screen turned off which waze does not have
I'm a bit surprised by the difference I have in maps. In France and Germany, Apple Maps gives me both the precise lane indication, with the addition of zooming in a bird's eyes views when in complex areas with very detailed maps on the different lanes and obstacles, but I also have the different speed limits. Apple Maps speed limits are also much more precise on the Autobahn I found, with Waze often giving me wrong speed values that sometimes made me go faster than I should have had edits : both google maps and Apple Maps have the ability to plan trips days or weeks in advance Apple does also has the feature that shows you the places you were, but that option is not in Apple Maps but rather in the Photos App
The issue I have with Google maps is, if I'm using the app on just the phone itself, it will show the speed limit and how fast you're going, but if I plug it into a car to use the larger display, it will just show the speed limit and not how fast you're going.
« Outside north america » really isn’t fair. Lot of cities in lot of countries support the same ultra feature reach and ultra detailed View as North America cities on Apple Plans , and in those cities it’s really great, from navigation to finding places.
most annoying thing for google maps that it doesn't show you the distance in km or mile if you add 1 extra point in your route, only if you have an A to B route... I mean on the application, the desktop version does show
Wise used to show nearest parking to any direction but now it has removed it. This was one of the most important features to me. I live in Sharjah. When I go to Dubai to any place I get very worried to find proper parking place or route. Because just because we are near a building it doesn't mean we can park. For example before when I wrote Dubai mall then it showed nearest parking automatically and asked me to choose a parking place. But now it randomly select place like Google maps. I just don't understand why they did that. I use yango maps for unknown place in the UAE and waze for known parking place.
If you want to use this system in Eastern EU say in Bulgaria it will work ONLY regard names and places on the maps in the cyrillic alphabet, Google maps shows both Latin and Cyrillic. So, if its only Latin for you, don't bother to use it in B.G. Or Russia for example..
People are wrong Use waze for cameras police or if ur lost And use google maps for navigation bcs google maps navigation is the best routs the problem is if its not updeited u can get in closed road and apple maps dont use it
Does Waze have something like Android Auto? And why doesn't public transport get counted in because that is a huge feature from Google Maps and Apple Maps.
One thing I learned in this video is how different Google Maps navigation is outside the US. In the US, Google Maps navigation would be rated about a 14. A lot of things that didn't exist do exist here. Waze still has a slight edge, though.
I have an Apple Watch but use S24 Ultra: So, if I want have navigation on my Watch, only Apple Maps vibrate when it is turn, which is very convenient. I ended up running both of them Waze and Apple Maps at the same time, but Maps will be muted. Is there there Waze on Apple Watch that I missed?
Hello, I must say that I have some disagreements with some points of this review. Not sur that it is fair to compare Waze for something else that navigation as it is its main focus. For navigation, I must say that I do not completely agree with this comparaison. I can only write about Google Maps and Waze as I do not have an iPhone. Google maps shows lane assist in Belgium, France and Luxembourg. I also see regularely on main roads, in these contries, the speed limit. But I admit that it is not always the case for smaller roads. In France Google also shows the price of fuel on the map. It is not always the case. As far as I know, Google crushes Waze for waypoint. So far i have only been able to have one waypoint on Waze while I can have 9 (plus the final destination) with Google Maps (which for me is essential for road trips). About being able to report problem along the way, this was indeed a strong point of Waze (but is it really safe to do this while driving?). Lately, on the lower right corner of Google Maps , I have seen accasionaly a new button (a sort of triangle) that was not there before. This appeaes to be a screen to report problems But it does not appear all the time. For exploring, I do not find it fair to give the same amount of points for Google and Waze as Google allows you more. For example, Google allows you to directly reserve some restaurant and even in some case to chat with them. Thanks
I am from the Netherlands. I prefer to use Google Maps for deciding where to go, the reviews and the pictures. When driving, I prefer my car's built-in navigation. However, if I had to choose between the 3 navigation apps used in this video, I prefer Apple Maps. In the Netherlands, it provides me with line assistant, maximum speed, and even the option to plan routes. I can also easily search for a gas station, car park, etc. In my opinion, it is also the smoothest app (especially when zooming in to intersections, curves, etc). The voice of Apple Maps is much better than the other ones (at least for iPhone users). I am using Flitsmeister for speed camera's, etc. I guess it is the most popular app for that purpose in the Netherlands. Again, this is my personal preference.
It's so strange Google hasn't fully merged both apps together. There was a time they brought some of the features to Google maps but now they all are gone.
You should make a video when used for walking or cycling. For some reason the arrow in Google maps keeps freaking out and it's never pointing correctly when I'm on foot on my S24 ultra and it did the same with my previous phones. Only works flawlessly when drivit
On Google maps (in Spain) I get lane assist, speed cameras warnings (on the map and audio alert), it also shows me the speed limit. Google also is, at least here, far beter in reporting slow traffic/traffic jams including spoken warnings.
Same, I use Waze for driving and Google maps for exploration, then I share locations where I need to drive to waze from Google maps using an app called "Send to Navigation" Also, you missed to mention that Waze allows you to pick the routes with exact Tolls (ex. Salik) charges shown, which is very useful. And it also shows user reported speed traps unlike Google maps. This is one of the reasons I love Android, there's no way to share between maps like this on iOS. Great video!
So, I used to be a FedEx Courier, I still kidna am, except I drive a semi truck for them now, but when I had 100+ stops a day in the part of the city I didn't know too well I would just type in each address on a map app really quickly. When I had an iPhone I tested each one of these apps. Waze was too clunky, and slow. It physically slowed down the number of stops per hour I delivered. It's only good for long road trips. Apple Maps was just not reliable enough. It wouldnt pinpoint a lot of places, or was off quite a bit, or would have me turn down wrong streets to get to an address, such as going behind a building instead of out-front. It also would always display the screen even when i would just lock the device and listen to directions to save battery. Google Maps on the other hand was way quicker, I could type in an address and get navigating in a matter of seconds. It had so much more info about the world, it knew the location and address of almost anything, even in neighourhoods that didn't exist yet on the map, it was so much more reliable. I ended up being one of the fastest couriers on route because of how quick Google Maps was. It wasn't without fault here and there of course, but none of the other navigation apps even came close.
my google maps has a button under the compass to report crashes and such, as well as speedtraps. from what I can tell it also pulls reports from Waze since google owns Waze
@@xhino_96 Yes. Apple has 60% market share in USA but 30% in Europe and rest of the world. Overall Android and their services are the better choice globally.
Google maps has a much broader usage on multiple smart devices and is more known and available to others comparing to the others. Thus, giving it the higher hand in user experience and interactions. Plus, Google Maps has better traffic flow colour indicators which Waze and Apple Maps cannot compete with because, again, more users. Here’s a tip if you use CarPlay or Android Auto in your car’s screen. Run both Google Maps AND Waze and let Waze run in the background of Google maps. Apple Maps tells you when there’s a better route (due to less traffic) and tells you what that route is, Waze doesn’t, it just says ‘we’ve found a better route’
I find that Apple Maps won’t reroute if there’s only a small amount of time saving but the route is more complex, depending on time saved. It’s just more conservative than Waze
Overall, I use both Waze and Apple Maps, they’re both brilliant, give accurate routes and are easy to use. I live in the UK
I personally feel that Google maps driving path animation thingy could be more eye candy by being a bit smoother. Other than that, it’s pretty good.
This is how comparison should be done
Apple Maps also does have the lane assist feature and I live in belgium (eu)
Not all region have that, so wave ftw
3:26 Google Maps has also got the option to check the navigation estimate! (They've had it for a while now.) You have to click the 3 dots for options.
Which country? I don't have it
@@IDTR UK. 🇬🇧
It's the opposite for me 😂 Doesn't matter if I drive faster or slower, I still arrive at ETA at the exact time it showed when I set off, it's crazy 😂
In Malaysia, Google maps has which lane to stay feature.
Thanks for sharing
Here in my country, Google Maps also has lane assist and reporting feature.
Which country?
@@IDTR Indonesia. On Google Maps, the lane assist feature appears below the direction. Only on highway and major road though. As for adding report, there is a + button on the lower right corner, opposite of the speedometer.
0:58 Apple Maps also provides lane assist features on certain regions. It appears yours is not supported, which is why you didn't see the feature. However, if you go to the US or other countries that support these rich features, you'll see it.
Same for Google maps
So for me in Germany, Google Maps talks a lot more. 1km, 500m, 250m and directly in front of an exit on the Highway. And also the exact lane I need to use and if I need to stay to the Right or Left.
And for the Gas stuff, the same. Google can more. It can show me the prices (For the type I choose.) directly on the Map while driving. And when I click the station, it will show me the price of every type.
Where I live, Waze and Apple Maps are basically blank. Second best option is Mapples, after Google Maps.
Great comparison!! But how is the battery consumption?? I notice my phone gets warmer with Waze than GMaps
Yeah Waze is definitely a battery killer, but I’d argue that it’s worth it
Total points for each app if you'd like:
Google Maps: 22
Waze: 20
Apple Maps: 15.25
Interesting that you decided to do this video - nice to see the comparisons!
This is One of the best tech channels and I have seen many
Google maps now also has the lane assist, maps is also integrating the report features.
Also Gmaps has navigation witht he screen turned off which waze does not have
On Google Maps, the speedometer changes from BLACK to RED when you go over the speed limit here in Canada. Not sure why it is not showing on yours.
It only has speed limit data in certain areas. It has only recently started showing speed limits in Slovenia for example.
I'm a bit surprised by the difference I have in maps. In France and Germany, Apple Maps gives me both the precise lane indication, with the addition of zooming in a bird's eyes views when in complex areas with very detailed maps on the different lanes and obstacles, but I also have the different speed limits. Apple Maps speed limits are also much more precise on the Autobahn I found, with Waze often giving me wrong speed values that sometimes made me go faster than I should have had
edits : both google maps and Apple Maps have the ability to plan trips days or weeks in advance
Apple does also has the feature that shows you the places you were, but that option is not in Apple Maps but rather in the Photos App
The issue I have with Google maps is, if I'm using the app on just the phone itself, it will show the speed limit and how fast you're going, but if I plug it into a car to use the larger display, it will just show the speed limit and not how fast you're going.
Another excellent video my friend. 👍
« Outside north america » really isn’t fair. Lot of cities in lot of countries support the same ultra feature reach and ultra detailed View as North America cities on Apple Plans , and in those cities it’s really great, from navigation to finding places.
Don’t have the lane assist on Waze in Australia, wish it did, Apple has it though
most annoying thing for google maps that it doesn't show you the distance in km or mile if you add 1 extra point in your route, only if you have an A to B route... I mean on the application, the desktop version does show
Apple can add multiple stops and you can then remove stops. You cannot remove stops with Waze
I like that Waze has the average speed / roadworks length as a vertical bar showing progress. Maybe the others also do, but I use Waze.
Here, in Brazil, Google Maps has a option to report accidents and other traffic issues. And it get some information from Waze.
Google also has the lane assist - It shows up once you come up to a turn. At least where I come from and I am not from any English speaking country
People are wrong
Use waze for cameras police or if ur lost
And use google maps for navigation bcs google maps navigation is the best routs the problem is if its not updeited u can get in closed road and apple maps dont use it
Does Waze have something like Android Auto?
Hello,
I must say that I have some disagreements with some points of this review.
This appeaes to be a screen to report problems
But it does not appear all the time.
Again, this is my personal preference.
waze for drivers, google maps for tourists
Apple does show what lanes to go into plus Apple says turn right at the next light
I used both Google and Waze while driving in Lisbon Portugal. Hands down - I highly recommend Waze!
nothing beats Waze for driving. google maps to check places and plan your stops if you're doing a long trip, then use waze for the actual driving
Waze has slower map updates than Google maps, once it naviagated me to a closed road, while Google Maps took it into account.
here in Brazil it's the other way
Its weird how that works because Waze uses Google's street map database.
Google reporting is based on what city you're in and their jurisdiction. i.e. it doesn't show when I'm in Los Angeles, but does when I'm in Seattle.
Which is a bummer, these features should be consistent
It's so strange Google hasn't fully merged both apps together. There was a time they brought some of the features to Google maps but now they all are gone.
no need, it app would be too bloated, i think it's good they keep them separate while borrowing some features and adding it to each
You should make a video when used for walking or cycling. For some reason the arrow in Google maps keeps freaking out and it's never pointing correctly when I'm on foot on my S24 ultra and it did the same with my previous phones. Only works flawlessly when drivit
On Google maps (in Spain)
I get lane assist, speed cameras warnings (on the map and audio alert), it also shows me the speed limit.
Google also is, at least here, far beter in reporting slow traffic/traffic jams including spoken warnings.
Why not put them on satellite view ?? Shows more details???
Google Maps on the phone can add a "crash, speed trap, and all that jazz". It also shows me the lane to be in.
im in uk, waze is great for driving .i use google map for everything elese , but waze the best for driving lovely 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
UE? you know that waze and the first gps sensor where developed in israel, right?
It's owned by Google now
@@IDTR yeah I know.. cause we are smart.
Same, I use Waze for driving and Google maps for exploration, then I share locations where I need to drive to waze from Google maps using an app called "Send to Navigation"
Also, you missed to mention that Waze allows you to pick the routes with exact Tolls (ex. Salik) charges shown, which is very useful. And it also shows user reported speed traps unlike Google maps.
This is one of the reasons I love Android, there's no way to share between maps like this on iOS.
Great video!
Would be so nice to merge waze and google maps to have an all in one experience
Google maps also has speed limit indication with current speed.
The current speed will turn red when the speed limit is exceeded.
Only thing i want in Google maps is smooth navigation even 60hz will work nice
What about off line navigation? Can any of these navigate without mobile connection?
well i talked about offline maps - Apple and Google can
So, I used to be a FedEx Courier, I still kidna am, except I drive a semi truck for them now, but when I had 100+ stops a day in the part of the city I didn't know too well I would just type in each address on a map app really quickly.
Google Maps has the lane feature also, in South Africa, might be different for different countries though
Awesome comparison!
Waze is good for Driving but Google Maps Also convenient if you are Little bit experienced driver
Apple navigation has lane markers/arrows (in the USA )
in europe 90% of the places are missing. also many roads do not even exist
@@xhino_96 Which is better in Europe Google maps or Apple Maps?
@@YouGotPropofol google maps.
Apple maps has just the cool look and thats all about it.
@@xhino_96 Yes. Apple has 60% market share in USA but 30% in Europe and rest of the world. Overall Android and their services are the better choice globally.
I live in Cyprus and Google maps offers reports for cameras, accidents etc. They've added them a month ago. And btw, isn't Waze a Google product?
Что насчет номеров дома? В гугл картах пока максимальное приболела не сделаешь так что вж дом не помещается, номер не увидишь.
This way, you will get better speed camera distance indicators from Waze whilst using a better Map experience from Google Maps
The most annoying feature of Google maps is that it does not re-centre after you move the map around, while Apple Maps does. Apple Maps also provides an option for the least turns which might be a few minutes longer but much more relaxed drive.
On Google Maps, if you move the map around, the Center button appears, so you can click it and return to the default, centered, useful mode.
Can u check out 2gis?
I’m still use Google Maps on iPhone because I prefer Google Maps more than other map applications
For me: Apple Maps for driving, Google Maps for touring, and Waze for when you are stuck in traffic and trying to see if there is an accident ahead.
Are these tests done in Morocco?
