google maps: turn right apple maps: turn right waze: 500 ft ahead there is a car stopped on the shoulder. 50 ft ahead there is a stray cat giving birth on the sidewalk. It is beautiful. 10 ft ahead there is a young boy filled with the hope of one day finding his father
You missed the biggest advantage of Waze. Thousands of dedicated volunteer map editors who live in the community they edit. The map is far more accurate plus road closures are posted and removed faster than Google (even though Google leaches the data with some lag). Recently in Northern Virginia the I-66 express lanes were opened and Waze was using it for routing the day it opened. The other nav apps took weeks to pick up the changes. If you're using an app for commuting in some urban hell hole then Waze is it, hands down.
Exactly my point. He missed out the most important advantage which is map accuracy. Being in Malaysia, google maps tend to bring you to some random forest and you are stuck out of no where. Waze actually gather data from other wazer and the location is much more accurate. Waze also will divert you to a different route if they found out traffic is building up ahead. Maybe google maps have this feature now but in the beginning, those who get screwed by google maps before won’t be bothered to get screwed the second time by google maps. Apple Maps doesn’t even worth to get mentioned here. They are so US centric that they are unusable outside the US. I think the only other country I would try using Apple Maps would be in China. That’s because I have no choice as google were blocked there.
There's a major highway exit where I live that has been open for a year now that still isn't on Google Maps (and my report was rejected because they "couldn't verify" it), but it was on Waze the day it opened.
I too had to commute the I66 expressway from Alexandria to White Oak. Waze was spot on with all of the route changes DAILY! No other navigation app comes close yet.
On a Texas interstate a year or so ago, Waze instructed us to exit the main lanes and to follow a circuitous route through a small town, then reconnect with the main highway. At first, we were puzzled, but discovered later there was a major slowdown on the interstate (which we could not see when Waze sent us on the detour) and the alternate route moved us faster than if we had stayed on the highway. Kudos to Waze!
My wife had a similar experience. Waze told her to take a very odd route home, she declined and then got stuck in a massive traffic jam. Since then she never goes against Waze's recommendations. I too had Waze show me a different route one day, it slightly off the beaten path. Since then this has become my primary route. Its slightly longer with slower speed limits, but has way less traffic resulting a nicer, relaxing drive in comparison.
@@kevinjones5560this is what I tell everyone - trust Waze, you can’t navigate with your gut. Also, the more you drive with Waze, the more likely you’ll get your favourite and familiar routes.
I’m not sure why, but in my city, Apple maps said to reroute on a backroad instead of the highway, and waze said to stay on. I trusted Waze and I was stuck in a traffic jam for 25 minutes…
Apparently, Waze also learns your driving habits and style. Meaning Waze would recommend you the road you would normally go through daily, rather than recommend you new roads all the time. Heck, even gives ETA based on my previous average driving speed, which is actually different between drivers 😉
This is true. Waze used to route me into a road that is always bumpy as it was the quickest route. But after a few drives, it learned that I avoid that stretch of road and it routes me to the road that I take most of the time.
I wish mine did this, theres this road to my house that is shorter in distance but takes longer and isn't good at night due to all it's curves, it still reccomends it to me and i wish there was a way for it to stop
This part of the feature mitigates the inability to set the lower speed limits I'm supposed to follow as a new driver in France ! I have my ETA roughly accurate...
My biggest reason for using Waze is the pothole warnings, speed limit exceeded warning, speed limit display and current speed display. Currently (in South Africa at least) these features aren’t available in Google Maps or Apple Maps.
Waze for road-trip and Google for navigating to an unknown destination. Also, Waze allows for alerts without a destination making it more useful to leave open even when not navigating.
Which has better lane guidance? I've noticed that Google Maps' lane guidance is sometimes incorrect (and potentially dangerous if you don't know the area) while Waze doesn't show it very much?
For me, only problem with Waze is the stop planner, you can only add 1 stop and a final destination, whilst google maps can plan a route with multiple stops which can be shared with your friends. This is especially relevant for my group because we go on long drives with multiple stops in which waze is just not a viable option. Everything else - amazing.
Unfortunately where I am in Northern Ireland Waze used to be fantastic. When the user base dropped off here and the user reporting became less frequent it just made more sense to go back to Google which has much more up to date traffic data and road closures. Shame, I loved using Waze.
@@ravitejaknts for whatever reason, that doesn't apply to where I am in Canada. I need to have both apps open (Waze for police and road hazards, and Google Maps for navigation and traffic)
I think that Google would be well advised to keep the two product separate, while still "poaching" features like learning the driver's preferred route and typical speeds, and sharing map corrections and incident reports. Waze should stay "gamified", and social-oriented, while Maps should be more "straight-laced". Essentially, who rather different interfaces to the same information base and routing engine.
I think the biggest difference with maps is the navigation system itself. You can assimilate this with ants. When an ant moves forward, it leaves behind a trail of pheromones, which are detected by other ants. Over time, the passage that is the most marked will be the one that is the most used. Waze uses this system by placing a minus sign on the map when braking, and a plus sign when accelerating. This system gives you instant access to all traffic data (including traffic alerts), so you can choose the most optimized route. It's very effective in towns and cities, where roads and paths cross a lot, and I find that other gps systems are much less effective..
Hey bud, just offering a suggestion. Assimilate is usually used within the context of absorbing or taking something into something else, whether it's an individual ("he will assimilate new concepts in order to stay ahead of his peers") or a group ("the smaller tribe was assimilated by a larger tribe as resources dwindled"). The words or phrases you're looking for are probably: - "You can use ants as an analogy." - "This approximates the way ants behave." - "The concept is similar to how ant colonies function." I would use the first option as it more closely matches the sentence structure you originally chose. Besides that, gave your comment a like as it is something that the original video did not cover and is something that should be surfaced. Good thinking!
I switched vrom Google and apple maps over to waze, it's overall a better navigation app. Routes are good, no weird detours or longer distance at most instances. Wonder why Google cannot make Google maps aa good as waze since they own waze too.
What I love about Waze is the routes and options of routes compared to Google and Apple which give you more of a direct route whereas Waze will give you the fastest route using side/back streets and traffic data
I actually hate this about waze. Maybe in the US it works well but in European cities where people like to walk having every backroad clogged up with traffic is very unpleasant and dangerous for people who want to walk and cycle.
This can be great on the US but in some latin american cities this can be very dangerous. I've had Waze send me through some very sketchy neighbourhoods at night and it's definitely something I dislike. However if I need to get somewhere ASAP at all costs I choose Waze over maps anyday.
I just hope Google won't ruin Waze. It's my to go navigation and in my country it's actually used so much that while waiting at traffic lights I easily get a report about an accident behind the intersection that happened a minute earlier.
It's already running it, sorry about it and eventually 2 things will happen, or it will merge with maps or worst it will happen the same that happened to skype when was bought by Microsoft, they will let it die eventually.
Oh no, they're shutting it down. They've been going around shutting down their duplicate apps recently. (Fit for Fitbit, Duo for Meet, Play Music for RUclips Music, Street View for Maps, etc.)
@@sagas070707 google can't merge it with google maps, either they will continue supporting it or just shut it down, but not merge it with google maps, and let me tell you why. In Germany and many european countries, its illegal to have anything that has to do with radars and since google maps is an official map, they are not allowed to show the speed limit that you need to drive or radars on the road, this story doesn't apply to waze because the map is updated by the community and not by google and thats why its kinda allowed and the state can't do anything about it, so this is why the task would be impossible to merge it to google maps.
@@dumitrutoderici5537 that sounds retarded asf. EU looks making it inconvenient to travel and navigate around for its own citizens. Personally I like having speed limits on google maps its a good feature to have.
I like Waze. I like how it displays in on my car screen. Waze warns of radar traps, speed cameras, red light cameras, and various aspects of on the roads. I like how I can customize Waze.
Near me there is a road that had a temporary speed limit reduction from 40 to 20, which lasted a year. This was removed 18 months ago. In Waze the speed limit went down to 20 and back up to 40, pretty much as it happened. In Google maps it took 3 months for the limit to go down to 20, and 18 months later it is still at 20.
Same thing here. A bunch of roads had their speed limit upped from 60 to 70. Google Maps took about a year for it to update, Waze updated it in less than a week.
It's very simple how the two apps live in harmony together (and why Google will keep it that way). Waze is the navigation to get you there (or at least, to the parking bay). Whereas Google Maps is to find the precise location of your destination (you'd might use Street View to get an idea of what you're looking for)
Every so often I try to compare all 3 and so far Waze is better for getting around traffic issues, and well as notifying me of things I may encounter on the road. Google Maps is suppose to get data from Waze but in my experience is not always the case, at least not as fast.
So you must also like all that data warning you every 500ft that you should watch out for a pink Kirby or piece of fuckkng pizza in the road and showing you an ad over the screen too? Cool.
@@zombievac You don’t have to use it, and if you do, you can turn any of those alerts off, but for that just use what you like. I personally prefer to avoid traffic above all else.
@@Aaaaabbbbbbcccccccddddd but if it’s all spam road hazards (ads, bots) and full screen ads every time you stop (which is the only time you should be looking at it anyway), what’s the point of using it at all at this point?
When I was studying at UK, Google map is the best navi app for me. But back in my home country of Malaysia, everyone I know including myself are using Waze. I have tried to continue using google map when I first returned, but quickly I changed back to Waze. For Malaysia, Waze is just a lot more accurate. It knows Malaysian roads and tolls and highways. It is just perfect. And for a developing country like Malaysia, everyone drives. I feel like Waze is just made for driving users. While for google, it is damn accurate when it comes to public transportation and walking. Which isn’t that popular in Malaysia.
its funny that everyone in Malaysia is using Waze - an app which was developed in Israel - a country that Malaysia hates 🤣 well, i guess sometimes ignorance is a bliss
At least in Brazil, you’re a “weirdo” if you don’t use it, mainly due to speed radar warning. Google Maps is used only to look for places, and Apple Maps is a no go.
I would love a merge of google maps and waze if done correctly. One big difference they have, at least on my region, is roads law, sometimes google maps takes my on a road which would be a wrong way, potentially getting my a ticket or worse, a car crash, and waze have this correc ted because of the community and profile learning.
The problem with Waze is that it's really not that well known Globally I've never heard of it in my entire life tbh, and this is the first time i see/heard of it when i stumbled upon your video randomly
Waze is a staple in the Philippines, especially in Metro Manila where gridlock is as normal as breathing, its essential for any motorist and is a must if you are a ride share or delivery rider. The social media savvy country combined with lots of time due to daily gridlock make it really good for finding directions, although there are certain areas where instinct is still better.
In waze the navigation is updated more frequently to avoid traffic, in google maps it seems to calculate it at the beginning but not updated it after during the trip. It will also choose a direction with less traffic even if it has a bit more mileages. And of course the radars indication is a huge plus.
Waze is my primary app. I’ve been using it since 2010. Although in my country Flitsmeister is the top app. As more people now report in FM, I now use an automation script to launch FM in the background and launch Waze as my primary navigation. This way I never miss a speed trap, pot hole, etc on my journey. As I use CarPlay, I have never noticed the zero speed advertisements. I love the congestion and parking planning in the app the most. Over the years Waze has saved me literally weeks! One extreme example: Waze helped me avoid a 4 hour standstill traffic jam and got me home in 1.5 hours. I hope the app stays for another 10 years! 🤞
Back in the day waze used to change routes based on traffic/accidents that happened and suggested changes mid drive. It was amazing! Nowadays it never happens but it's still the best navigation app. The fact that people can post pictures of what happened so you can decide to turn around or not if your stucked is crazy good. Hope google invest more in it, the community makes it the best.
not sure if something is wrong with your app, but for me i get a lot of times changes in mid drive, if it senses traffic ahead then will change the route or at least ask me if i want to, maybe the option is blocked in your country?
Oh, it definitely still happens... Waze tried to reroute me off the highway a few months ago to a random country road. I decided to stay on the highway anyway and deeply regretted it.... it took 45 minutes to reach the next exit as i sat there in nearly standstill traffic that was bottlenecked from a multi-car traffic accident on both sides.
One thing I like about Google is the satellite view. Very useful if you're driving a large vehicle and need to determine whether there's room for you in a particular parking lot or not. But Waze's obstacle and speed trap warnings are much better in my experience. Not sure if this is still the case, but my Apple Car Play and Android Auto never let me report anything on Google Maps or Apple Maps. Waze, however, does allow me to report stuff through my radio's head unit.
It's also the only app that has "passive" driving features, like still showing useful info like speed limits when when not on a specific selected route.
Google should start pulling traffic reports from the Waze servers and simply add them to the Google Maps in real time. In that case, both platforms users would benefit and have real time information when needed :)
@@chewylandliveI don't know how long it's been a thing but my Google maps does it already. It warns me of speed traps ahead and things like turn at the next light.
Main problem with waze in my country is that it still shows old and long rourets. it doesn't update new routes. So i have to go back to google maps. distance to my family plelace is 560kms. but waze shows route which is 660kms.
My biggest pet peeve with Waze right now is this: Back in the day, when I reported a significant slow down or stand still in traffic, it would automatically reroute me. Now, it just gives me the points and thanks me for helping other people who will be rerouted, while I stay there in the stand still traffic. I would like it to go back to rerouting me, I am not interested in helping others... I don't want to be stuck in traffic...
I’m from NY and no longer using Warez for years. It has way too much information on the map which I don’t needed. Moreover, the ETA was not based on live traffic which was the major reason why I decided to move to Apple map.
The algorithms that decide the best directions to your destination for Waze vs GoogleMaps are very different. You won’t notice it so much in small suburban and rural communities, but those differences are exacerbated when you are in a major metropolis or your destination is a major metropolis. Despite the common ownership, those algorithms have remained separate. I live in NYC and the routes each app calculates for in-city destinations can be materially different even if you make all of your driving preferences identical. Typically, but not always, GoogleMaps gives you a more consistently faster route than Waze for intra-city driving. GoogleMaps also tends to stick to major roads whereas Waze can sometimes take you on a side street adventure. Now for inter-city driving, Waze is hands down the better algorithm. GoogleMaps is lazy for routes between cities and sticks with the same route unless the traffic causes a very material difference in time to destination. Whereas Waze is more likely to anticipate traffic and will risk a more creative route that is often times better. One more thing. GoogleMaps assumes that you will be driving at the speed limit (unless there is traffic obviously) when calculating its ETA. Waze assumes you will drive 10-15% faster than the speed limit. Don’t believe me? Test it out yourself. Happy driving.
Waze rerouting Atlanta traffic has saved me more times on the way to work than I can count, even if I leave my house an hour early to get to work 30 minutes early, there's a crash or something 5 miles ahead that's slowed down traffic and it offers a re-route that gets me to work on time, and knowing that theres a crash up ahead.
I have the opposite experience. I find that waze knows when you can't really drive the speed limit on a road (because it's narrow or whatever), and it adjusts for that. I've been consistently impressed with its ETAs. Perhaps on your roads, people do just ignore the speed limit? That would fit with waze matching what people actually do, not just copying the number from a sign.
I love Waze so much especially for the alerts, and the way the app functions in general. I have been starting to use Apple Maps more though because I don’t have to look at my phone to double check where I am going as much. Apple Maps shows stop lights and (most of the time) stop signs. It also will say “go past this light and then turn right” compared to Waze saying “turn right in a 1000 feet”.
I definitally like the light feature on apple maps and it's so easy to integrate to waze too because they already have the lights mapped on there, hope they update it one day
In Israel, it's used almost exclusively by drivers, Waze links are included on event invitations or navigation instructions - even to governmental institutions as well as private businesses. It's even used in day to day conversations as in "put on Waze" or "what does Waze say?"
As a Sky engineer I do a lot of travelling to peoples houses. My main navigation app is Waze. It is the best one but it is a little hungry on that initial data connection and I can sometimes be in an area where Google maps can make a connection and route me but Waze would time out. I also use Apple Maps for one reason. Named houses. If you type in a named house Waze and Google maps don’t find them but Apple Maps will find it straight away and literally be pin point accurate as well. None of them are perfect, they all have their use cases.
As you said, I am one of the people who tends to use both Google maps and waze. Simply because I use both public transport and a personal vehicle. Waze is a great app for driving with all the traffic information and the reports of things around me, but when it comes to public transport, (when I'm navigating inside my city) I have no other options than Google maps, and even then, it lacks in features, and I have to use Moovit as well... I need to get directions in google maps, i.e what lines should I take and where should I switch, and than I check the times of the line in the moovit app, as well as pay in the moovit app. I wish this all experience was more cohesive. Google tends to not be exact with the times of busses, and moovit is not good at suggesting routes😢
Other than Gmaps only transit apps like Moovit, Citymapper, TripChecker, Momego, etc should be used for transit. Waze will never have programming for that outside of locating stations
Most important features for me that Waze has but other maps app don’t is GPS real time speed (great to quickly check if you’re over speeding), and police/speed radars presence. It also is more informative about traffic jams and how long you will be stuck. So basically to avoid speeding tickets Waze is unmatched.
As soon as Google bought Waze, they started stealing all the best ideas for Maps. For example, the banner to help you pick the right lane at a junction. There are still so many great features that only Waze has. I'd be very disappointed if Google killed Waze without providing these features in Maps.
I loved Waze, but Apple Maps improved significantly, and I adopted it. Like you said, Waze is just a little clunky on the phone and even more clunky in CarPlay. However, I will admit that I will open Waze when I'm in an urban setting at rush hour. Waze's alternate routes are often smarter than the Apple and Google map apps.
Not in New York it ain’t. Apple Maps tried to get me to make a left turn in Manhattan. If you know how traffic works in NYC, then you would understand why that’s a problem.
@@robster7787 I've had similar experiences literally with Apple. Google, and Waze. In Atlanta, getting around traffic jams on side roads is tricky. All have landed me at uncontrolled intersections to make a left turn in impossible traffic congestion. Very frustrating.
Man I absolutely love waze ! I feel like for me all three serve a purpose , when I’m up in the mountains and I have no service are use downloaded maps on Google Maps if I’m riding my bike or taking transit I use Apple Maps , and for strictly driving point to point I use Waze ! But I do feel like it’s time for ways to have a major update because the display is getting boring
Shocking how so many people are on the band wagon of using a mobile device while driving. Around here, it's against the law to hold your cell phone while driving (only usable in hands-free mode with single touch, parked, or contacting emergency services). This ban includes being stopped at a light. This, and the larger easier to see, built in navigation systems in cars makes them the preferred tool. I think the last time I saw someone actually use Waze was 5 years ago and that was a technically challenged senior. Garmin is the clear leader with added tools such as using your vehicle height to navigate around low bridges (something Waze isn't even considering adding as a feature). Also crowdsourcing is a thing of the past for navigation since traffic can now be sourced through a variety of data sources like road sensors, and data collectors which identify movement of GPS devices. From a data privacy perspective, it's an extremely bad idea to be sharing your location. Period.
Waze personalizes my ETA based on my previous driving. Its accurate as hell without traffic and damn near perfect with traffic - usually giving me a minute or two to spare with traffic. I've been using it for many years and will continue.
I use Apple, but need two enhancements: integrate Music into the app (like Waze does), and actually pinpoint where the "speed check reported ahead" is on the map! Both would be great; roadtrips especially.
As someone who lives in the Netherlands the reason why I don't use Waze that much anymore is because it just doesn't have support for cyclists. Google Maps allows me to do so and specifically guides me along roads with less traffic or with dedicated bike paths. If it's not too far, I always prefer to take my bike.
Waze has “planned drive” - being able to check what time I should leave ahead of time is literally the only thing that locks me into Waze. No other features matter.
For looking around town, planning possible routes I’ll use google maps. For actual driving and navigating I only use Waze without turn by turn or alerts. Waze is generally faster and more accurate for me, reporting is useful and I’ve been a map editor in several regions and countries for the last ten years and I appreciate being able to flag a problem and be able to quickly solve it. In fairness, I’m a fan on honor systems like Waze, Wikipedia etc. and tend to give my focus to them as much as possible. It would have to either be forced on me or something catastrophic for me to migrate away from Waze.
Actually, by not being a standalone navigation app it's the best that Waze has, because that's exactly what I don't like about Google Maps. By being an all-in-one app, Google Maps is good at everything, but not the best in any. It's great if you want to navigate by foot or by public transport and it's the best for finding some store or things like that, but once you start driving it's so cluttered and doesn't feel like a driving nav system, like the sat-navs of old where the interface is simple and clean so you can see clearly with just a glimpse and not trying to figure out between a lot of stuff like in google maps. Apple Maps used to be awful but I think it's like in the middle place between Google Maps and Waze
I am psycho and use two navigation apps at once. Apple Maps because the navigation hasn't just gotten better, it is now better. Waze because the community reporting is second to none. Waze also has more specific reporting like hidden police, potholes, or fog. The navigation on Waze has gotten awful though constantly getting me stuck in places when Apple Maps doesn't.
I do the same, I put google maps muted in the background mostly to help my timeline form better although not sure it works, never thought of using apple/google maps tho and leaving waze on for alerts
I’m currently a taxi driver, and what Waze has over other navigation apps is the ability to navigate routes with taxi lanes in mind. There’s always talk on whether taxi dricers should just know the area rather than use navigation, but navigators are just helpful tools in addition to knowing the area, and for longer drives to formerly unknown places to me, it’s a godsend
I loved waze and always pushed it for friends and family. However i've been burned so many times by it freezing/ crashing causing me to miss turns or being unable to calculate an especially long route. The former occurred with CarPlay so there could be integration issues. It definitely makes sense with the revelation that google hampers their development/ improvement. I'm not sure why though, they still own it and should want people to use it. After all, as you mentioned, many people use both Waze and either google or apple maps so it's not detracting much from google maps and can only give google another strong weapon to pull iphone users from apple maps. They need to fix the bugs and keep working on improving what makes it special
in carplay when looking at routes the screen would freeze and be stuck unless you restarted the drive, (as a backseat passenger without access to the carplay screen it was annoying), recently though I noticed it won't even let me change routes and say I need to do it on the screen so maybe they couldn't fix it. another issue I have is it not connecting to gps which I'm not quite sure if it was waze or my actual phones fault for that
I think Wayze should be a GUI Overlay over Google Maps. It could be a feature in Google Maps that you enable to bring the gamification and engagement to the platfrom, while contributing to the passive userbase that is more focused on passive navigation in the standard Google Maps view.
You tap twice lmao.. people do much more dangerous shit on the road without even noticing, and there is a voice control. You can tell waze that you spotted a police car and it will automatically add it.
Google maps runs the risk of being too big to run and maintain (if not already) if it does take on all the Waze features - as it's already supporting streetview, reviews, public transport, routing and its own navigation. It could become the new Facebook of the digital map world, trying to be a jack of all trades. Google have had 10 years to merge the apps but haven't. I can see a future for Waze, especially with a loyal community behind it.
the only flaws I know of while using Waze is that 1. Fuel prices are not updated regularly, drove past a gas station thinking I found a good price but it just hadnt been updated in 28 days, where I live there are other websites that track fuel prices daily that it could pull from but it doesn't 2. It is very stubborn about redirecting you and will often try and take you on a weird route to get back on the road it initially directed you to instead of just rerouting.
So true! Sometimes it redirecting you to a different road just to avoid a little bit of traffic. To me no need to reroute us to beat the traffic only few minutes
Waze was amazing during our roadtrip however some countries here in Europe does not have alot of roads mapped so it was extremely hard to use the App in for example Hungary, Croatia and Italy. But Sweden, Denmark, Germany and Poland was amazing with tons of reports for upcoming dangers and etcetera.
Waze i use exclusively for car navigation and while driving. Google maps is for getting phone numbers, addresses and hours for businesses. Plus marking and saving of POI flags, and walking navigation, i use Google maps.
In Brazil, Waze is the best app for a few reasons: new roads get added quickly; it shows all speed traps on your route; the community is always on top of hidden speed traps; it allows you to add your plate numbers so that the app can remind you to not drive on days where your plate is banned (in São Paulo, due to the massive amount of vehicles and people, certain license plates cannot drive on certain days. It’s based on the last digit of the license plate); it allows you to add your toll pass and, of course, it has all the other alerts that help you on your way to wherever you’re going.
It doesn notify you verbally approaching speed cameras. Notification Only on screen. which means you need to watch the road and the screen at the same time
One thing I noticed is that Waze is far better at detecting traffic and at road navigation in big cities; but living in Europe, we have a lot of narrow / steep / kinda inaccessible roads, especially in smaller towns or close to the mountains. That’s when I immediately switch to Maps, because I get stuck on bad secondary roads way too often. Maps is also far better when road-tripping, i prefer the overview especially on the desktop version!
the big thing that kills waze for me is the imprecise map display and most importantly the fact that (at least in france) it considers any highway as a paid highway. so if you set it to avoid toll booths, it just completely avoids highways.
It’s the most complete when it comes to car navigation! Speed limits, community stuff, and it has ton of info, you always find what you’re looking for! (i just wish it wasn’t so glitchy with CarPlay)
As somebody who is a full time rideshare driver, I use google maps over waze for several reasons. 1- I can tell google maps to avoid/allow toll roads through my android auto and it has no problem switching between them whereas turning tolls on and off in waze is much more user involved. 2- Waze has a habit of making simple directions much more complicated; for instance on city streets where going straight and making 1 turn to get somewhere may be just fine, waze will have you turn left off the main street, turn right on a side street, turn left on another side street, make another right, then another left, then right, then left back on to a main road. 3- I can see upcoming traffic conditions on google maps, I can look at my map and see if there are bad traffic spots along the route and get updates about why I'm being sent a certain route and waze doesn't do this. 4- the map is slow to respond, google knows almost immediately when I make a turn, but waze kind of always lags behind which can make following time sensitive directions(like a crowded downtown) much more difficult. 5- google gives you plenty of advance notice when you need to make a turn whereas waze lets you know basically at the last second resulting in many more missed turns, especially when combined with the previous reason.
The good thing about Waze is apart from apple and google is it shows on what line r you supposed to stay on… And that is very helpful especially if you are in another country and the roads are super confusing
It shows the speed cameras, you can set up which countries, county’s “vignette” do you have and not just avoid tolls option. It is better on so many ways.
Waze is a platform model growing obsolete by the day. That robotic MRCD speed trap operated by Ai in realtime can take ANY form factor. It might be a utility truck. It might be a utility box. it might be an out house. If a driver doesn't identify it as a speed trap by the roadside, he's toast. Maryland LE utilizes MRCD prolifically because it saves manpower and the only countermeasure is an MRCD radar detector which few have.
I love the toggle option for "avoid hard turns". This prevents me from making a left turn on a major street waiting for 10 minutes and potentially gettting in an accident.

As an editor. I agree.
100% theres a few places inmy country which led me to dead ends or forbidden signs. Usewaze for 99% of my daily use
I’ve learned to trust Waze. Every time I went with my gut instead of Waze, I regretted it.
@@kevinjones5560this is what I tell everyone - trust Waze, you can’t navigate with your gut. Also, the more you drive with Waze, the more likely you’ll get your favourite and familiar routes.
I like this about Waze. An improvement would be someway to let you know why they are changing the route from a obvious one.
Yes, Waze learns after quite short time my preferred route, but will still re-rout me if it had a good reason.
I love how accurate the ETA is. It usually works it out within a minute or two of the actual arrival time!
As a South African I second that.
Waze for road-trip and Google for navigating to an unknown destination. Also, Waze allows for alerts without a destination making it more useful to leave open even when not navigating.
I didn’t know that! Now that’s useful
Yeah I do Grubhub deliveries and Waze is terrible for that. Since it’s not good at determining the location of individual houses.
Waze also has the best integration with streaming services. A big plus if you don’t have CarPlay/Android Auto.
Which has better lane guidance? I've noticed that Google Maps' lane guidance is sometimes incorrect (and potentially dangerous if you don't know the area) while Waze doesn't show it very much?
agreed
For me, only problem with Waze is the stop planner, you can only add 1 stop and a final destination, whilst google maps can plan a route with multiple stops which can be shared with your friends. This is especially relevant for my group because we go on long drives with multiple stops in which waze is just not a viable option. Everything else - amazing.
Unfortunately where I am in Northern Ireland Waze used to be fantastic. When the user base dropped off here and the user reporting became less frequent it just made more sense to go back to Google which has much more up to date traffic data and road closures. Shame, I loved using Waze.
Wait so google isnt using the same dataset? Seems stupid since they bought them
@@008kevin Google is weird like that
@@008kevin Google uses Waze data on Google Maps, but not the other way around. I mean you can understand the intention.
You wouldn’t love Waze now, so no loss at all there!
It's very effective in towns and cities, where roads and paths cross a lot, and I find that other gps systems are much less effective..
this is.. actually a great comparison
You're really smart bro
I don't react that often on YT but this is a really good explanation! You should be a teacher :)
The words or phrases you're looking for are probably:
- "You can use ants as an analogy."
- "This approximates the way ants behave."
- "The concept is similar to how ant colonies function."
I would use the first option as it more closely matches the sentence structure you originally chose.
Waze rerouted me automatically to avoid a car crash further down the road that happened while I was driving. The other two maps won’t do that.
@@Lukelbroif there is a road cars are allowed on it whether there are a lot or a little.
Apple Maps also routes me through backroads. It's just as aggressive in route planning as Waze for me.
@@josephjoestar515 apple maps took me to the entirely wrong destination several times (address was correct).
This can be great on the US but in some latin american cities this can be very dangerous. I've had Waze send me through some very sketchy neighbourhoods at night and it's definitely something I dislike. However if I need to get somewhere ASAP at all costs I choose Waze over maps anyday.
I joined Waze 13 years ago and I have 98,303 pts. I actually was a map contributor for my local city back in the beginning.

Cool.

In that case, both platforms users would benefit and have real time information when needed :)
exactly. pull the police info into google maps in real time

The rerouting got worse right? But its still better than Google Maps
I agree with everything else but Google maps has used the speed of vehicles driven on a road past almost forever.
i assume that the quite a lot of the people using waze are speeding
"Is waze dying?"
Well that SEO clickbait BS was a f*cking lie 😂
Waze was an Israeli startup, this doesn't surprise me
They need to update the UI, it feels very outdated. I think there is a middle-ground between friendly, fun, but appealing and fresh.
Yeah it’s why I don’t use it. It looks too kiddie. I definitely needs an overhaul.
I think themes would be nice, so that you could choose between them.
Been using Waze for about 10 years, love the nav UI which is why I use it most often.
5:21 where the answer to the question starts
As soon as Google bought Waze, they started stealing all the best ideas for Maps. For example, the banner to help you pick the right lane at a junction. There are still so many great features that only Waze has. I'd be very disappointed if Google killed Waze without providing these features in Maps.
Just about to say that as in case not everyone are going to use Maps.
They didn't steal the ideas, they bought them for a billion dollars.
Google Maps: For browsing around restaurants and destinations
Waze: For the actual drive to the destinations
Very well thought out and explained.
I feel like you checked all the boxes with this. Great job!
Something weird seems to be making waze directions not make sense recently

Period.
love your videos man, so clean and well produced. you def on the come up 🙌🏻
Apple maps - Default navigation
Google maps - Backup for apple maps
Waze - On whenever not navigating to see alerts and make alerts
Waze would've been awesome if they offered an Ad-free version and the ability to have the arrow centered while in landscape mode.
Google maps has that actually
Apple Maps also has that
Waze doesn't work for me on Android Auto, it is just to zoomed in. Google Maps zooms right out between instructions and Waze is just too close.
I think, they sould merge Google Maps and Waze into an app, that has all Waze and Google Maps features
I only use waze when i need to break some laws 😂
@@KeyonWasTaken My Google Maps still update the timeline without me ever opening it. It tracks you in the background.
Yes especially in car play it just freezes
in carplay when looking at routes the screen would freeze and be stuck unless you restarted the drive, (as a backseat passenger without access to the carplay screen it was annoying), recently though I noticed it won't even let me change routes and say I need to do it on the screen so maybe they couldn't fix it. another issue I have is it not connecting to gps which I'm not quite sure if it was waze or my actual phones fault for that
I keep Waze running in the background with Apple Maps for alerts. I've turned off vehicle stopped on shoulder alerts though 💀
I think Wayze should be a GUI Overlay over Google Maps. It could be a feature in Google Maps that you enable to bring the gamification and engagement to the platfrom, while contributing to the passive userbase that is more focused on passive navigation in the standard Google Maps view.
No
"there's a cop ahead"
the cop: *taps "not there"*
I believe Waze is owned by Google. As such, would be curious if user inputs by Waze users are seen by Google Maps users and vice versa 🧐
Waze map looks so good, I use it just cruising backroads to see curves coming up
I just don't like how it's encouraging ppl to use their phones while driving
You tap twice lmao.. people do much more dangerous shit on the road without even noticing, and there is a voice control. You can tell waze that you spotted a police car and it will automatically add it.
Waze is the best if you’re trying to speed and not get pulled over by the cops

What I love the most about Waze? They spot speed cameras
yep, gotta love how navigation apps enable dangerous driving..
I like Waze but I don’t use it. I’m not a fan of the UI. Plus having ads pop up at a red light. I only use it to check traffic conditions.
Notification Only on screen. which means you need to watch the road and the screen at the same time
Apple Maps: Basic navigation
Mapquest: Estimating times
Google Maps: Discovering places to go
Waze: Road trips (Minimum 30 minutes)
Waze is my favourite! I love how everyone is sharing info and its cutesy fun
For me, it's Waze and Apple maps. If Google kill Waze, they lose my data
It’s the most complete when it comes to car navigation! Speed limits, community stuff, and it has ton of info, you always find what you’re looking for!
(i just wish it wasn’t so glitchy with CarPlay)
Waze is like that quirky friend who insists on taking the longest route just for the fun of it
My 70s DJ navigation voice makes my drive to work feel like I'm in the disco lol
For me google maps and waze are not the same use, i use google maps to seek commerce, restaurants, view reviews, and i use waze for driving.
Honestly I would love if google maps had some of the things has such as the customization.
Waze is a shining example of, “Do one thing, and do it well.” For navigation, I wouldn’t use anything else!
I use Magic Earth, so neither Google nor Apple know where I go haha.
I love the toggle option for "avoid hard turns". This prevents me from making a left turn on a major street waiting for 10 minutes and potentially gettting in an accident.
