I called this during pre-season, you could see his potential and his calm demeanour straight away but I had no idea how bad the injury situation would get and I expected to see him a few times in the cup or off the bench. Getting in to the first team in some of the biggest games in years and looking as good as he does is something I couldn't dream of. Seeing his stats is crazy, I knew he looked good but that just nails it down. Sometimes I see him make a run and wonder why he doesn't get a pass but then realise he is actually even more clever than I give him credit for. Expectations well exceeded for me and I couldn't be happier.

Great video Adam, something I haven’t seen many people mention about Miley is his height. I’m not sure exactly how tall he is but looking at him on the pitch in comparison to teammates and opponents, he’s comfortably over 6 foot and you’d imagine he’s still got some growing to do. A player with his technical ability and physical profile is a very rare thing!

I'm biased but Miley looks a long way ahead of Mainoo to me. In terms of composure, reading of the game, confident passing (as in, not laying it back to a CB), and technique Miley seems ahead to me. Though he is far more box to box than Mainoo so would look more progressive and better at certain things.

One of the things I've said for months is very similar. The boy plays space in a way you just do not see normally from such a young midfielder ( ZZ, maybe? ). He is limited by not really being used by his team mates ( they rarely give him the ball ), although he's being used more with each game. He will grow more, learn when to turn on the engine, as he doesn't use it often ( space hogger !! ) as at the moment he is just generally filling in the space he sees and expects his team mates to cover around, as they should too. His footy brain? He needs to know when to turn on warp 9.9 though and cover where he shouldn't be and take that risk make the forward run at 9.9 and be in the space where he shouldn't ( but, he's 17.. so why risk it ).. he doesn't yet, but he will. I've seen it in the last couple of matches that he has that burst.. Then we will see his real footy brain ( of luck ) as some might say.. Which makes the best players. He has it though, in Bales..

The rise of young Miley who is only ..... is the highlight of this season in my humble opinion. Only winning either the league or the FA Cup would surpass his breakthrough to the first team. It is ironic that just when we become the richest club (potentially) in the premiership, that our academy produces a local lad with such talent.
If only Peter Beardsley was available to coach him further and bring yet another facet to his game.

Interesting watch, very insightful.
HOWEVER the main reason he didn’t go out on loan was because didn’t want him away from home so young. He felt it would negatively impact it taking him away from his family and homegrown city at such a young age… where education and friends are still important.
It’s certainly worked out, I don’t any Newcastle fan expected him to be getting this many minutes.
A new contract will definitely be looming soon!

I assume they're using Louis (pronounced the correct, French way, not the way Americans incorrectly spell Lewis) as a nickname since that's often what footballers/managers do.
