  • Newcastle United's season is back on track after an unbelievable 8-0 win over Sheffield United. But while there was amazing performances across the pitch for Eddie Howe's side, it was also the biggest sign yet that Anthony Gordon has become integral to the team this season

Impressive also to see Gordon's interview where he admitted he wasn't good enough yet, rather than moaning about not being played, and that Howe has got him to buy into what he's doing, especially after the row about being substituted. I reckon Howe had reminded Gordon that he has faith in him and that's why he bought him. I wasn't convinced at the time, but kudos to Eddie, looks like he got yet another transfer right. I guess we should recall how Howe developed talent at Bournemouth and brought players all the way up the divisions - easy to take the result for granted but very few manage it.

My favorite thing about Gordon, as well as Anderson: they both have this aggressive determination to score (or at least create some trouble) as soon as they get the ball. They don't mess around. We need more of this mentality spread among the team, so we can crush defenses more consistently as we did against Sheffield United. Miley is another player which I really want to see play among them. From what I've seen pre-season, he might be that type of player too.

It's mad how much better Gordon looks in only 6 months. Whether it's Howe and his coaches or simply a great U21 tournament but even in terms of personality he seems transformed from the Everton Gordon.
One thing I've loved watching is he often has this very positive first touch to knock it inside and then carries the ball to push straight at the defence a little more centrally. It's so positive and starts a lot of attacks for us.
If he can keep improving technically and improve his finishing then he can really be a top player.
*Also, well done for mentioning the Dan Burn run for AG's goal. That gives him the space to take the shot on. No one seems to mention it!

He's the footballer equivalent of Sir Ivor who wintered in Pisa, came back 3 inches taller and won the Derby. I hope Sandro, Tino and Lewis will follow a similar path to AG in terms of adding value to the first 11 over time.
