Is the rise of Newcastle United unstoppable? | BBC Sport - Спорт
As a Scotsman. They are a sleeping giant and it has been awoken. Good luck to they great fans
Can you hear us from the border like? 😅
Villa fan so bias but i think Newcastle and Villa are both waking up to retake their spots near the top. Absolutely stoked for the Newcastle fans.
Great video, I like that it addressed the sports washing and had an array of opinions.
I agree with the guy that said it would be great to back fan ownership or more ethical ownership... but how do we get there? Let's not pretend that alot of western billionaires and governments aren't the ones selling Saudi weapons.
@@MindSurf248 Great comment mate👍 Im a Geordie so love what's happening at Newcastle but also agree that yous yourselves are a big club being awoken and I wish you and your fans the best of luck mate. Take care 👍
Sleeping giant 😂 they haven’t won the league since 1927
As a property surveyor, I agree.
The 4-1 against PSG was the best game of football i've ever been to in my 25 years of life and I have the new ownership and management to thank. For the last few years we've all been pinching ourselves at how perfect the ride has been so far. Remember fellow Geordies, enjoy the hell out of the ride to the top! Because this is football - tough, stressful times will return one day only at a different end of the league table. HOWAY THE LADS!!
I’m 24 and I’ve been saying the exact same… CMON!!!
State sponsored clubs have a huge asterisk hence will never go global. Literally no one in the world of football cares about their success as everyone knows Abu Dhabi & Qatar is buying trophies for MC & PSG. It'll be the same for NU. Self made clubs will have million times more respect & kudos for their achievments.
Relax. Psg tryed a complete new trash position.
@@potjhm1 You mean like the two state run (supposedly) teams in Spain called Real madrid, and Barcelona. They have course have never been global teams have they?
Ashley didn't give away 10,000 season tickets because people found something better to do, he gave away 10,000 half season tickets when loyal fans were pushed to desperate measures and began canceling their season tickets half way through the season in an organized boycott of Ashleys ownership, which was a key driver in forcing Ashley to sell the club.
To say Geordies 'found something better to do', is an absolute disgrace to this superior fan base.
It’s scary how British people feel entitled to a billionaire’s entertainment property. Ashley owned Newcastle. It’s his company and now the Saudis own it. It’s pity to whine about a property that you don’t own.
@@HusseinDoha its sad that your life is ruled by capitalism and you sudjugate yourselves to the rich.
A football club is an important part of a community, not a billionaires plaything. Any owner who is privileged enough to take control of a communities prized asset has a responsibility to that community to ensure the club is properly run and at the very least reasonably funded with the profits the fanbase generates. Not used as a cash cow and neglected for over a decade, left to rot alongside the fanbases hopes.
Really enjoyed that - great to see Matty and Rob featuring too...😁

This seemed great, until it became the normal "Sports washing" debate video. Nothing to do with the rise being unstoppable at all. Grim video BBC. Grim.
Give over - the majority of this video was very positive - that was a fair, balanced overview...
Although I kinda hate that all of this has come from Saudi money I can’t help but feel happy for the Newcastle fans with all they’ve been through. As a Manchester United fan I still get goosebumps seeing the atmosphere at some of these grounds. Anfield and St James park especially. This is what Manchester United must return to!
All we needed was to be ran properly and this is the first time in Newcastle’s history that they have been ran correctly imo professional at its best only way is up and our fans deserve it HWTL ⚫️⚪️⚫️⚪️
As much as I appreciate your sentiment for us long suffering Newcastle fans. I'd like to point out to you, as a Man U fan. The Saudi's have been pumping millions into Man U for 15 yrs and counting. Nothing is really said about that though.
@@toonman1892they've been pumping money everywhere but since it's happened to us everyones kicking off
@@toonman1892 probably cuz we’ve made only three great transfers since sir Alex left 😅 Our recruitment is shocking. Newcastle did it right building there squad up gradually and getting targets they wanted. Not spending million on a third choice back up option cus they couldn’t get who they really wanted.
> Although I kinda hate that all of this has come from Saudi money I can’t help but feel happy for the Newcastle
Sums up a lot of Newcastle fans' feelings tbh.
Newcastle is a good away game if you love a night out 🍻🍹🍸
Always happy to welcome well behaved fans in Newcastle I don't think you'll see a " No away fans" or home fans only here like you do in a lot of places
Why no mention of middle eastern money behind Man City, PSG, Barcelona shirt sponsorship, a World Cup, another World Cup, a Russian oligarch throwing money at Chelski? Newcastle didnt make the rules, they are following them! The current success is down to excellent management, both front of house and behind the scenes, and the effect on the city and region is wonderful to see! Howay the Lads👏
So many of the world's biggest clubs do sponsorship deals with Gulf nations. Arsenal supporters slag us off about PIF while having Emirates on the front of their shirts and they play at Emirates Stadium. Saudi Telecom is one of Man United's oldest business partners and they did a new deal with Saudi in 2017. Real Madrid and Benfica - Emirates sponsored shirts. It's the business of world football these days. Not saying it's right or that I agree with it but that's how it is.
This is a genuine levelling up for the region which no UK government is capable of delivering, courtesy of Saudi investment. Long may it continue under the very capable stewardship of Eddie Howe, his colleagues and players!
thats actually an excellent point. Well said.
Very good point.
I'm just sad it's Saudi investment.
That country has a reprehensible human rights record, openly commits state sanctioned killings and if you're a woman or LGBTQ get ready to be oppressed or murdered.
Saying long may it continue is probably not the right words unless you care more about a football teams success over anything else
How does it represent levelling up? Aside from the infrastructure they've invested into the club itself, have the invested in other projects around the North East?
As a Sunderland fan, im bitter but at the same time ill be a realist. Football means everything in these ends, no matter what side your on, tyneside or wearside. At the end if the day, i respect them and although a lot of the fans are toxic, thats just what you get in football. Fair play to them.
We have had white and green shirts in the past so crack on imo as long as they care about the club that’s all I care about
Man United and Liverpool have gone for green as well.
the passion is real, but I promise you, we do talk about other stuff up here too ...
I am a huge fan of this Newcastle United football club and I love and support this club since my childhood and I never turned away from them in their hard times relegations and all other stuff happened back in those days but thankfully this takeover happened and now I am feeling over the moon through my club and sure very nearly this club will become one of the worlds best football club.
Because of the Saudi buyout, I'm a Newcastle fan for life. In English Football, Its forever Newcastle FC for me
( Everton fan ) Well I say good luck to Newcastle United and wish them all the best! after the dark days of MA ownership they are now a very well run club have always had great supporters. Good luck that is until you play us lol, we now need the points more than ever :)
Fair play to benitez who stayed with them in the championship
They are such a well run club. They'll just sign 2 beasts in January and get even better....
Lol such a well run club? What a joke. Once all of the world goes oil free these oil daddies will die out making club dead again.
The market is very different now
Apparently the suits have said we can't afford anyone unless we risk getting a points penalty and we would have to sell our best players on to create profits and then continue this process.
But some clubs can buy in players and stick them on 8yr contracts until the rules are changed and they don't have any punishment. Funny they're one of the clubs who tried holding the sport to ransom a few years ago and again, weren't given a suitable punishment for that either. Still, they're alright with their billions that mean they won't struggle under FFP rules....
They have a lot of players they had before the takevover still playing. Wilson, Wilcock, Almiron, Murphy, Schar, Longstaff, Joelinton, Richie, Dummett… not sure who I’m missing, maybe more.
New signings all been pretty modest and savvy.
Eddie Howe has done wonders last season getting them into Top 4 with a team consisting primarily of players who were facing relegation the season before. I think Trippier has been an instrumental addition also, it’s no wonder was awarded the captains armband so quickly.
Scary to imagine what they will be capable of once the owners actually start flexing their deep pockets. 🤔
Nothing will happen... No pep no success, Eddie can't win anything... Look at them this season, a few injuries and they are struggling.
as a Newcastle fan, I have heard us being called deluded but most of the pouting comes from non Newcastle fans, yes there are a few that have let the cart go before the horse.
I personally would like to park the hype train and remain realistic. super club may happen but I don't see it short term, the progress has been ahead of schedule, but I don't think we are a super club yet
And some fans that haven’t only put the cart before the horse, but they’ve punched the horse in the face.
@@djstuc Not sure I heard much about the fans calling for the sacking of Howe, but yes seen some pretty bizarre comments regarding Bruno, Almiron, etc which I was abit miffed at on social media when we lost opening games. I think these platforms do bring out the idiots (and you get this same crap with every team), and maybe it's because Newcastle has a strong fan base that you generally hear more of these views. It doesn't represent the majority of the fan base it's just the haters seem to be more vocal. But yeah, the armchair managers opinions have been annoying the crap out of me.
Yet again, we can’t spend more money that we earn. I don’t see us becoming a super club. You’ve seen Chelsea spend Billions and still not become near a super club nor even near top 10 last year
@@djstucthere’s always 20 idiots in every city with a Twitter account
@@djstucAbsolute nonsense.
Newcastle get to a point where they are really spoiling UTD, Arsenal and Liverpool's plans for dominance and that is where you Newcastle fans will start to see your club seen in a very negative light with the footballing media. Don't upset the Cartel. Fuck that, i wish Newcastle every success - behind City of course.

Newcastle was a super club in the mid 90s up till the early to mid 2000s.
Under Mike Ashley that status went crashing down for more than a decade.
i couldnt give toss about saudi sports washing , theyve made us a top team
Exactly, look what they've done for Newcastle - the city, the club & it's supporters
yeah absolutely
Ashley wasn’t exactly a great human being was he? Can’t remember anyone criticing his morals or ethics etc. All of a sudden things change when we might upset the status quo
They have made our club great again, if they get good publicity for that, well that's fine by me. Who are we to judge our government is corrupt as they get
@@chrisstucker1813 I am out of sympathies and bad words for Mike Cashley. The only thing I thank him for if for fucking off and giving the club to Amanda.
I absolutely love this club. The thing is people always go on about the Saudi Money but the thing is we've barely spent much yet compared to other clubs, like look at Chelsea they've spent over a billion to be mid table. It's called smart business what we've done
They've spent about £430M of their blood money so far. We aren't talking pennies here. Sure its not Chelsea with their high risk amortisation but its more than almost every other club in the country. Its not like Brighton level shrewd.

I have to be honest theres a lot of talk but I couldn't care less who owns my club, as long as the money spent and decision made are in the interest of improving the club thats as far as my opinion goes
We are massive
Roobenstein!
The narrative that fans and local media are enjoying is English manager, mainly English talent, local lads and boyhood fans in the team, and half a dozen players that floundered under Bruce, Benitez and McClaren getting a new lease of life. No big money marquee signings, but plenty of young players with future potential. Building up from the foundations.
The narrative that critics and opposing fans want to push is that all the success is purely down to the Saudi money, and the Saudi government should take all the credit.
So who is really doing the sportswashing here?
And don't forget great recruitment team doing their due diligance on a £55 million player now banned until next August for betting on football.
Amanda Baby
Why should newcastle fans care where the money comes from.
I'd love to have some of that saudi money at Leeds.
Honestly, I don't care who really owns Newcastle United, all I am interested in is seeing success for the club I have supported for 26 years with so little to smile about--now am smiling every weekend, and look forward to next fixture with more hope than anytime since I started supporting the Magpies back in 1997
That's it man, enjoy it after all those years of not enjoying it, now is our time 🖤🤍
Thats such a scary take cant believe people are liking that. Turning a blind eye to sports washing and slave money for some success in a sport. Shocking
the soul of the club is gone😢
Here is the number one reason why The Rise of Newcastle United is unstoppable. (Or rather the rebirth).
Newcastle are the original sleeping giant. As man utd were when they won their first title in 25plus years in 1992 under the great sir Alex. Newcastle were the most successful club in England behind Aston Villa in 1971 having won more trophies than any other team. Well, their wait has been longer than Man Utd's but it has been agonisingly painful. With their waiting list and demand for season tickets let alone tickets sold on the day the stadium could if it was big enough be full every week with 80-90 thousand fans. This can be ratified when counting the 40,000 applications for a small amount of season tickets available last year. This sleeping giant has awoken and when it wakes it wont go back to sleep. Everyone watch out it's their time now.
Great commnet. When Newcastle lost to Liverpool in the 1971 Cup final we were just as successful as them with trophies. Shows you what bad ownership can do.
@@graeme45401974, but your point stands.
Yeah you're spot on mate. The fact that we even sold out every match in the Championship with a stadium of over 50,000 geordies shows how amazing and loyal our fanbase is
@@graeme4540 We lost in the 1974 cup final, Arsenal won the 1971 cup final when they did the double.
They are a small club. No league title in 100 years, no trophy in 70 years. Let's be real.

When is the BBC going to talk about the sportswashing done by Russia/Putin at Chelsea?
Funny how Just a couple seasons ago Newcastle fans were complaining about Man City and the amount of money and investment they’ve gotten from the Saudis…..

Rather be hated anyway.
Newcastle need a major trophy like a fa cup will kick start them
I really hope so in my time we win a trophy 🏆
Riding high and never gonna die baybeeeeeee
Good video but Stan Seymour and joe harvey have to be in our top 3 managers.
Living in the North East. It's amazing how many people I've found out "support" Newcastle since the takeover. Never knew they supported Newcastle before that.
I couldn't give a flying fuck what the owners do outside football. All that matters is what they do inside football. Best United in the world.
Would you like Hitler as your owner then, so long as he was putting money into the club?
5 months on…unstoppable…I think
Arsenal 4 Newcastle 1 at the Emirates was the cold draft of stoppability, I heard Geordies that day say they’d never come to the Emirates again. It’s awful hard to become unstoppable. Believe me I’m an Arsenal supporter.
If Newcastle were the only team to be owned by a regime we don`t like then the people complaining would have a point. But they dont because a handful of other clubs are owned by places with human rights issues. I didn`t see anyone moaning about the world cup baing in qatar , besides politics has NOTHING to do with sport.
So many people complained about the qatar cup, so many people complained about city and so many people started to complain about man u when it looked like they could be taken over by qatar. It's not just us, and it isn't just them. I found it laughable when all i heard by man u fans over the 3 or 4 months that a qatar power house was trying to buy their club was "Newcastle never got all this shit." When yes we fucking did. Fans just have a small vision that mostly surrounds their own club so everything about their club gets magnified 1000x over and think the world revolves around said club. It does not.
Yes
As Tonali would say, "you can bet on it"
Leave Sandy alone 😂
Thank you to the owners to give some hope back to the fan’s base. That what we ever wanted under Ashley. We didn’t demand to the win the league or win cups, it was just having some hope on a Saturday when we watch our club
They have to win something got a good manager now good group of players long time since fairs cup
Don't worry we will, got plenty time
To most Newcastle fans, the Saudi side of things is an irrelevance. Yes we put up with the oil money and sportswashing jibes, when in reality, because of FFP, Newcastle had far less to spend than most Premier League sides due to chronic underinvestment by Ashley. The board bought wisely, got a great (and underrated at the time) manager in Eddie Howe along with Trippier and Guimares. They poached Chris Woods off Burnley and ironically sealed Burnley's fate and relegation. Then performed a miracle in climbing away from the relegation zone from a losing proposition no other team had achieved. The following season they qualified for the Champions League, 5 years ahead of the 10 year plan!
I like how this was posted before the Dortmand game lol
What are they talking about? True Geordies always supported the club through thick and thin with passion! We knew we’d get to where we needed to be it was just a matter of time.
His ''The Pain Game'' channel is good too.
Essex born, have supported Newcastle since 1996.
Just come 2nd in the biggest bottle job and bought Shearer with money you didn't have. At least you stuck by them during there numerous relegations
Matty, Rob and Kendall - great online voices for our club. Just missing Adam P reviewing Travelodge rooms in Croydon...
the English football establishment have always know Newcastle United are a genuine threat to their darlings. We've never, in our history had the boardroom power to be a sustained threat to those who have sat on the top perch of the English football pyramid. Now, we have the sensible, reserved, professional wealth in the C-Suite to ensure Newcastle United have the stability to solidify their rightful position as one of England's elite clubs for generations to come. We are United, We are Newcastle!

right or wrong , football is a world wide sport . gone are the days all your owners ,staff and players are local .
Haters are going to hate and it's jealousy, we have gone through a horrendous time under the ownership of Ashley and he never embraced our fan base. In the short time since the takeover happened the new owner's have totally embraced the club and City and have done some cracking business recruiting a Top manager and his team, Tripps is the best signing and still can't believe it 😅 the future is bright and long may it continue
The skunks are miles away from being a big club. Decent championship team, at best. Up the toffees.
Of course they will be,money incentives etc, they will be competing with Man City within a few years or so. These clubs being bought up is the first steps to this super league mark my words 👍🏼
Better question is how worried is London that they make a video about it 🤣🤣🖕
They will intensify the propaganda the closer we get to success.
As for the sports washing shite whole countries take money from the Saudis and nothing is said about that yet because Newcastle has them as owners, we are the bad guys were not. We just wanted our club back after being with Ashley for so long who could blame us any other club would have loved it if they got bought out by the Saudis was just fortunate for us it was Newcastle United if the world is so against Saudis why do they do business together all countries do businesses with them eh one word MONEY 💰 but were the bad guys for supporting a club that we already supported nothing and no one would stop a true fan supporting the club NOT THE POLITICS!
in fairness why should the saudi's not be proud of where they come from aswell ass being proud of being the owners of our club?
Bobby and his dad would be proud.
Why doesn’t the government sell NEWCASTLE UPON TYNE to our real owner the Saudis, we wouldn’t get forgot about that way our city would be amazing.. more jobs more money more happy people

Well in short yes. If you allow Newcastle to spend the way other teams have been allowed to. But then Man City and Chelsea fans would complain about the amount of money being spent 😂
Spend what you want, see you when you're the only team in Europe to win all 4 UEFA trophies twice and been World Club Champions. So about 100 years i would say.
I’m not even a Newcastle fan but I have to say it’s funny how bitter you lot from other small clubs with unlimited wealth get 😂
I don’t care about Chelsea either 😂 it is funny how many city fans forget why they are where they are and forget where they came from. My point is Newcastle if allowed could buy city about 50 times over. Of course they will succeed. The money now is ludicrous. As for city you will be the first to point out how much Chelsea have spent after your lot are found guilty. It isn’t 1 or 2 charges. It’s not even on an Everton level. Hundreds of charges against city. So for all city fans say “we are a well run club” you’re not. It’s inflated. Let Newcastle have their go at spending in the way you have and they would make you look like you can’t afford a bag of chips. Hence they would be the best team by a mile which is where city are currently, and I am happy to admit that. City are easily the best club right now.
I am not fussed on arsenal either. You seem determined to try and get me to bite about my team I’m not bothered. There is no argument. All I am saying as as previous when you’re found guilty the tune will change cos it “won’t be fair”. From my perspective I’d just like to see Newcastle be allowed to spend what they like as well, it’s the only way a team can compete with city, by doing the same thing they have done.
Newcastle United are set to replace Chelsea for new superclubs along with Brighton and Hove Albion

Only now City have won the champions league do I consider us at the top table.
Not in my wildest dreams in 2008 did I think what has happened would become reality! Yet it did and if the same happens to Newcastle, your in for one hell of a ride!

>Tonali + Bruno + Longstaff
>Burn + Schar + Lascelles + Trippier
>Nick Pope

Unfortunately I'm sorry to say, but we are the club who will forever trapped in a "stasis" situation where FFP will frustrate the club. Our only way to improve it seems will be our nemesis of having to stay as a fringe/feeder club by selling quality plsyers like Botman,Guimaraes & Isak on to the European Superleague Wannabe clubs, who are the elite few that FFP doesn't appear to apply to..
The whole situation is f***ed unless you cut the club a bit of slack, but then everyone it seems, doesn't want us to be successful because of who our owners are.
