This is my initial review since I just got the ipad and I'm hoping to update it when I've had it longer ruclips.net/user/postUgkxUGaHtKW8MwCql2fPyIm9-ftTqSMzKFFA . I purchased one that was listed as "acceptable condition" and was a little worried about what it would look like. However, I am pleased with its condition. The back has some scuffs and a small dent near the logo. There are a few tiny marks at the bottom of the front of the ipad but the condition of the screen is perfect. There are no scratches or anything. I was able to set it up, use it, and it charges fine. I'm hoping it continues to work well for me. So far it was worth the purchase. Also shipping was fast. The item came one day earlier than expected

Hi, nice informative video. I have a peculiar problem connecting SSDs to my iPad Pro 3rd Gen 12.9 in. I have two SSDs, both Sandisk, but one of them is the Extreme Pro version 1TB, while the other is the Extreme version 2TB. I use a Honeywell adaptor with a PD port that says 85 watts, to which I connect the original 20W power adaptor, while the SSD goes into the USB C (SS) port of the Honeywell adaptor, one by one though. The Extreme Pro 1TB connects perfectly and pretty much quickly, while the Extreme 2TB just doesn't show up in the Files app. The OS is 16.5, just updated yesterday. Any suggestion would help.

A couple of things: first, the iPads that have Lightning ports can certainly work with USB-C devices, if you use a USB-C to Lightning cable I have a couple of these. Secondly, the real issue here isn't connectivity, but rather, the compatibility of the operating system. I have two Seagate external drives (1TB and 2TB) and they work fine with Windows, but won't work at all with an iPad, even if I'm using the right cable to connect them with, which, in this case, would be USB-A, which "should" work with an Apple USB adapter (the type that has a USB-A port and Lightning port for power).

@Chinglish Reactions Don't confuse people. A disk formatted under Windows 10 in ExFAT works fine under MacOS and iOS and iPadOS. You probably meant NTFS, but didn't mention it. The NTFS disk is mounted in MacOS and is read-only (unless special third-party drivers are installed).

@@lydiawiryana3467 RUclips does not allow links in comments, so you can insert the following line into RUclips search yourself: "How to Initialize and Format a New Hard Drive in Windows 10". I’ll add from my experience that it’s best to format a drive in ExFat specifically under Widows10, and not under MacOS.
And in order to use disks formatted on MacOS in HFS+ or APFS under Windows 10, I installed drivers Paragon HFS+ and APFS for Windows by Paragon Software. This makes it possible to use Mac disks under Windows. Another important observation: if the disk is supposed to be used with the iPad OS, then it is better to format it under MacOS in APFS and use such a disk under Windows through the installed driver from Paragon.

Macs have always been able to read disks formatted for Windows users but Windows users can not use a hard drive formatted by Mac. So if going back and forth between platforms, suggest keeping the Windows format....but if you have only Mac OS equipment would definitely use Mac formatted...get an external hard drive that connects with the ports you have or you will be "cabling or connecting" your self to death. Another work around is use the cloud...I upload my info to a few different cloud servers and use their storage so I can alway login and access no matter what platform I am working on.
My pictures go to a picture site as well as iCloud....and then videos to another server...and my backups to another cloud. All of this is far cheaper than worrying about formatting and what cables and always up grading equipment so that can use an external and not having enough juice to operate. I do have a huge hard drive that works on my router to back up my computers and iPad content. Crunch the numbers and see what works for you, a lot of options out there.

Jered, I have an iPad Pro 12.9 4th Gen running IOS17.4.1. It was a gift from a friend who wasn’t using it.
Yesterday my main HP i9 laptop failed as it won’t charge. I know it’s not the battery and I suspect it’s something in the charging circuit that will need to be serviced. I removed the 500GB SSD from the HP and put it into a USB-C enclosure and plugged into the iPad. I do not see it in the iPad’s Files tab. The iPad does not recognize it.
Since I have a multi-port dongle, I plugged the SSD into the dongle then plugged it into the iPad.Still nothing even though I know the SSD enclosure is getting power as I see the light on the enclosure and the wireless USB transmitter for my wireless mouse is working. Plus the USB-C cord from my phone charger plugged into the dongle is charging my iPad (but the same cord plugged into the port on my Magic Keyboard does not charge the iPad… very strange).
I really need to be able to at least access my files on the iPad Pro so I can work while I get my HP laptop serviced. I know my Apple friends use their iPad Pros with the Magic Keyboard as a laptop substitute which is what I want to be able to do but can’t.
Based on what I’ve described and your greater Apple experience than mine, what should I be doing? I can’t believe that I’m the only person experiencing this.
I found your video helpful (I never knew there was the extra USB-C port on the Magic Keyboard) but I am at my wits end dealing with this. Can you help me? My EMA is fmc2900R@gmail if you can communicate with me, that would be greatly appreciated as well as posting a solution here for everyone to see.
Is my problem related to a power issue? Is that what I am missing, why the SSD in the enclosure not being recognized?

One question I have (that I may have missed the answer to) is whether the hub/dongle you’re using will run without external power (on iPad power only) to do file transfer.
I’m a wildlife photographer and can be in the field away from power for days at a time. I can plug into a power bank in a pinch. But it’s often more workable if I can just run the hub directly on iPad power.
    Any help much appreciated!

In that instance a hub would allow you to charge and transfer files at the same time. Of course if you are using the Magic Keyboard, it has a charging port that you can use while the USB-C port connects to an external drive or memory card.

Is it possible to transfer the material from the GoPro memory card to an external drive, omitting the iPad ... directly from the card to the external drive using the iPad as an intermediary

Yes you can. I use a SoCal mini hub and go from microSD to external SSD directly. Lumafusion now can edit directly on the external SSD

My 2015 MacBook Pro recently died, so to access all my old files I’ve removed the hard drive and fitted it into an enclosure. Is there a reason the hard drive is not showing up when I connect it to my iPad? Will it require another adapter connected to a power source?

    • @jeradtech

Depending on the drive, yes. If it's an SSD it shouldn't but if it's a 2.5" spinning hard drive it likely will.

I’ve completely given up on SSD external drives for my iPad.
The Samsung T7 touch can’t be used unless you have a Mac to access the software so if anything goes wrong you can’t go into settings.
I lost all my saved files.
Instead I just save to iCloud and the storage on my device.
I will never trust or use an external SSD again

Hello. I have an iPad Pro (5th generation) and the SanDisk Extreme Portable SSD 4TB. I have tried to connect it to my iPad but the SSD doesn’t show up, like in your video. Do you have an answer to this problem? I appreciate your feedback. Thank you in advance.

Big question! On my new iPad 2021, for example, do I need to somehow “dis-mount” or “un-mount” my external had drive from the tablet? Or is it safe to just pull out from the USB-C Port?

    • @jeradtech
      @jeradtech  2 года назад +2

Just unplug it. There is no method for ejecting the drive.

Apple always make using any type of drives like Thumbdrives or pocket drives a HASSLE, where I need to either update some driver or or app to read the drive. where Windows will read it RIGHT AWAY no need to usually install any UPDATE. I hate Apple products for doing this. while I love using Procreate on my IPad... I have issues trying to save files to a Thumb Drive or Portable Pocket SSD drive. I even have bought many adapters for the iPad Ports . such as Lightning to USB or USB C to Lightning. I have a refurbished Ipad Pro 3 12.9 and it still wont read ANY drive I connect. a HUGE PAIN IN THE @ss!. any tips ? I have tried to update any drivers for the apps or IOS for iPad. @JeradHillTech any other suggestions? thanks in advance.

The model in this video is the slower model. I do have the faster model as well. It gets warm but I have not had it overheat.
