This could happen to anyone. The issue as you stated is the customer service response. This is unacceptable from such a major player in the industry. I am happy you were able to recover your files.
this is my worst fear and why every time i buy more storage, not even a year goes by before i'm shopping again to backup my backups
I'm extremely thankful to you for making this video plus for your honesty about that product without BS.
I have 4 TB extreme and a few 2 TB SSDs. Never had any issues. I have a big job coming up and was thinking about either getting another 4 TB Sandisk or a 4 TB T7. I was leaning toward the Sandisk because I had thought it reliable, and I read review online saying the T7 was slow on Macs, but you've absolutely terrified me now. Especially with their customer service being this terrible. Got to go reevaluate the T7. Thanks for sharing this!
Bro something is wrong with this new wave of Sandisk drives (I think). Im glad you're saying that because I didn't get along with Samsung either... the drive hasn't failed me whilst plugged into my mac, but it has failed me plugged into the atomos ninja v :S
If you do got sandisk, buy twice to back it up
bro buy t7 4t
Avoid t7 at all cost!
Why?
@@user-ls5bb9ph8j I went with 2 2tb t7 toughs and a 870evo for the ninja v... I'm super weiry of the 4tb drives now
Hi all, it’s probably worth reminding everyone of the 3-2-1 Backup process as 1 is not a backup unless it’s a duplicate.
The formula is 3 copies on 2 different media (as in two brands of drive) and 1 offsite.
As I’m not a working photographer anymore I back up my entire drive and leave it offsite (a friends, a Banks SDBox) and a duplicate I keep securely away from my computer (my logic being thieves may steal the computer but unlikely to steal my socks)
I do this tasks every month or before and after a vacation away.
I would rather say 4-2-2. And the local backups on medias running only on a raw brand new operating system that had never see internet, updates or any network.
I would recommend 10-7-11. 10 local backups, 7 remote and 10 in a bunker below the sea. Highly recommended for people who have infinite time 👍
I remember this situation omg 😳, I’m so glad you were able to recover your files. I’m thinking of moving away from Sandisk as well, this makes my nerves bad lol, I’ve lost footage before… so many photos and videos files that I’ll never get back off of a western digital SSD, and western digital owns Sandisk
haha it was BAD. I hope you’ll never be in that situation.
Run on SanDisk Extreme Pro 2TB Version with no issues also faster than Samsung - but part of the reason for using SSD is the non-failure rate vs HDD, so this is a concern. I normally attempt to keep more than 1 backup of my files, but again if testing new methods or software something forgetting to backup can happen. Perhaps a bad batch or something else specific to 4TB versions - as we push the tech into a smaller box, heat increases maybe it gets too hot.
Thank you so much for the awesome review. It was really useful.I just have one question though. What was the recovery software you used?
Over the weekend, I decided to move my files from a 5TB Lacie to a 4TB SSD Sandisk to maximize speed. I successfully moved around 2.5 TB of Audio, Video, Design and Photo files over. However, after I deleted all of my files off of the Lacie now my Sandisk will no longer mount to my computer (MAC). Checking the format it is showing the Sandisk as MS-DOS, even after I had successfully moved over my files using a MAC. Now I have 2 empty hard drives and have potentially lost all of my files. Any help would be appreciated...
Thank you for this video, the same happened to me. I bought 2x4tb and both failed on my M1 Mac, I was abroad and it lost a 2tb project folder, as you can imagine I wasn’t a happy bunny. I could literally see files corrupting in Adobe Premiere, then the whole drive disappeared and wouldn’t mount, I got an “unreadable disk” message, I had to reformat to get it working again. After the second time the trust was gone, I returned them both to Amazon for a full refund.
I think it could be a Ventura OS or M1 issue, I can’t see any PCs users with this problem. I’ve now also gone for the slower but reliable Samsung T7.
Great video! As someone who values quality family time in the great outdoors, having a reliable backup power source is crucial. The Segway Portable PowerStation Cube Series seems like a perfect solution with its massive capacity, fast recharge time, and waterproof design. Definitely worth considering for any camping or RV trip. Thanks for sharing!
Perhaps it has something to do with the file system. I have the same 2TB Scandisk you are showing and it failed on me after a months. I did reformat it from ExFat to MacOSExtended (Journaled) and now it works perfectly for almost two years.
It's so important that you have pointed this out - I have lots of SanDisk drives and like you I've invested heavily in them for around. decade. However, that email they sent you simply demonstrates that protecting their reputation is more important that supporting loyal customers who have their faulty drives and for the reason I won't be buying from SanDisk in future... Thank you!
I have a 500 gb & 1 tb Sandisk Extreme Pro and haven't had any problems - luckily. I watched this as I had just placed an order for a 2tb version for my trip this week to Japan. I cancelled it and ordered the T7, but went one step more and got the T7 Shield for $10 more! Thanks for the tip.
Got the same Combo of 500gb and 1TB Sandisk sandisk extreme pro ssd. Still no Problems. Hope that that stays so! Did you had any to this day? 2 Months later?
I got two 2 TB Drives and never had any issues.
Any updates on that? I really need to get one but I am terrified 😨
@@KhaledsWay I got 2 - 2TB drives and use them daily. I've never had any issues. I've had them for years too.
@@ignorantboxing you use them with laptop? Speed doesn't slow? And for backing up is it safe or hdd is safer?
Thanks for sharing. What was the recovery program that you used?
Is the issue with only th 4TB SSDs of SanDisk or what ? I was planning to get a SanDisk 1TB variant in a day or two. Can you tell me is the issue only in the 4TB and the other tweets only on the 4TB model or were there reports mentioning issues on the other 1TB models as such as well ? Can you give an idea regarding that please ?
Just returned 2x 4TB sandisks after they failed with over 6tb of raw footage on them. Was able to retrieve it all with diskdr but took 65 HOURS to retrieve and transfer to my HDDs! Returned and have 2 of the Samsungs arriving today! Thanks for using your platform to make people aware!
65 hours - my goodness. Sorry that happened to you!
@@lilafromyoutube
Which software did you use to retrieve those files?
I don't really understand what's going on here. People are saying things like their "files are disappearing" but the data is still recoverable. That's just not how storage media fails and actually sounds more like a filesystem driver bug since nothing in the drive hardware or firmware has any concept of what a file even is.
@@dark_mode diskdrill.
What model they were ?
Yup! This has been a common issue specifically with the new 4tb versions. People have been using the old gen 4tb version or Samsung instead!
Samsung has been great! Can you still buy the older generations?
Aha, at 03:44 that makes me feel much better for you! Any professional knows that sinking feeling of a lost drive/batch/file collection... insert storm clouds over their lives... then that sunshine and rainbow that show up when a recovery program works! Question, is it worth doing a Full Format of a new SSD no matter who makes it? Will that not fix any bad sectors ahead of time? Also, you likely won't respond, but just in case - do you use their installed backup software, or do you just format and use it as extra space? Thanks. 2 is 1 and 1 is none... :)
Dang! Thank you! Love to 2TB Sandisks but will definitely not be getting the 4TB I was considering. Happy you got your files back!
Same happened to me, I have the 1TB Extreme. It was not possible to rescue the data in my case but the weird thing is that after formatting it with ExFat instead of NTFS it now works just fine... The is the trust issue of course, I wouldn't recommend anyone to buy one. The is plenty of options now days and you probably want one with encryption and possibly "military grade"
so its not problem with ssd its just sandisk
The T7 Shield has a 4TB version that might interest you. It’s only been a couple of months since I’ve had it, but the includes a few 4 to 10ft drops😢, and it’s still kicking 😂.
It was out of stock so I just got the 2tb T7! But yeah I was eyeing it. Amazing how it’s still kicking 😂
I just bought the SanDisk - Extreme Portable 2TB
External USB-C NVMe SSD two 2 ago and is over heating. I never have that issue with any external before. Is this normal? Is my first time using this one
Hey, Lila what data recovery software did you purchase to recover your 1.7 TB of data from the 4 TB Sandisk SSD? I didn't see the link for it in your description. Looking forward to your answer. Thanks
CORRECTION: The recommended data recovery software is *Disk Drill* it costs $89.00 yearly. You could also try *EaseUS Data Recovery Wizard* which costs $69.95 monthly, $99.95 yearly, or $149.95 lifetime. Good luck!
Oh wow I remember talking with you about this on Twitter. Glad you got the files back. This kind of thing can really hurt someone's livelihood, and SanDisk should be taking this more seriously.
Agreed. I lost some of the folder structures and some files got renamed but I got them back which is most important

What is the data recovery app you have used? I am not sure where to find the link in the description as you have mentioned in the video it would be in the description?!
oh yeah had to change the link. I used disk drill
Quick question , did you format before using ?
Got mine over 2 years ago from Target. Still working and its just the 1tb version. You just never know if its the batch, ssd with larger storage or the region they’re bought and resold from. Lots of
issues with tech on Amazon, its a gamble. You also never know how they’re handled and stored. Just because Amazon ships and sells it doesnt mean it was in their hands the whole time.
That’s funny you mentioned Target! I also have the 1TB extreme SSD and it’s now two years! Zero issues even after dropping it a few times … I guess we now know where to get our SSDs from… maybe.
My SSD is the 1TB version of SanDisk Extreme Pro V2. The first time, I experienced file loss which led to the disappearance of all my files. Even though I used EaseUS software, the recovered video files turned out to be damaged. Fortunately, I had file backups. So, I decided to format the SSD, changing the file format from ExFAT to APFS, as it's said to be better for Apple systems. With a mindset of giving it a try, I decided not to return the SSD and continued using it. However, after a week of formatting, the same issue occurred again - all files were lost! Within just two weeks, this SSD lost my files twice. I can no longer use a drive that is prone to randomly losing files; it's unbearable for me!
Not saying this drive isn't evil, it absolutely is and cannot be trusted. However, I need to point out I have had terrible experience with ExFAT and Fat32 on my Mac. Get any other drive and use APFS if you don't need cross-platform. ExFAT doesn't have jounaling so it is easier to corrupt in general. I use NTFS for my drives and have Paragon on my MAC.
Back in the days, ExFAT would consistently have issues wtih corruption and disks not mounting with MacOS (apparently this came back in MacOS Ventura), I think the problem is MacOS/OS X not ejecting ExFAT disks properly. For Fat32, the file size limit is 4GB per file, in High Sierra Finder won't let you copy files larger than 2GB onto Fat32 drives. The 2GB file size limit is for Fat16, not Fat32, Apple somehow messed that up. You can use Terminal or some third party file manager to copy large files but that is a hassle.
Just a question to all those that have had problems with the Sandisk portable 4T.
What operating system are you using? Mac OS or Win10/11??
I own a computer repair company, and we use and sell the extreme and extreme pro, from 1TB to 4TB, and have had zero failures. We also Sell the Crucial X8 in all sizes, which I personally prefer as the read and write speeds are faster.
Totally agreed. I purchased 3 of these, all 3 needed to be returned to Amazon. I have 1 4TB Sandisk that's (thankfully) still working, purchased last year. Sandisk's customer service didn't even reply. Thank you for posting this! Samsung T7s are truly the answer 😄
It probably is, but the fact that SanDisk denies it is maddening because there are so many people with this issue. And these disks aren’t cheap!
idk… maybe it’s the amazon vendor selling trash 🚮
@@dastokene30og Yeah, if it was a vendor, I could understand that, but 3 of mine were purchased from the SanDisk Amazon store. I know they have a firmware update that's supposed to fix the issue, but I'll stick to Samsung T9 or T7s, and Crucial X9/X10.
I definitely want to say this maybe just the 4TB. I’ve been using the 1TB versions for years & never had one issue. The customer service response is the biggest bummer to me.
isn’t that exactly what I said in the video? 😂 but yeah bad customer service sucks
@@lilafromyoutube yes, just figured more feedback would help to come to the best conclusion 🤘
I also have the sandisk extreme portable 2 TB, bought it maybe 3-4 years ago, this one works still fine, which is the same generation as sumsung T5, but when I search for the internet, I found some voice about the the same generation as sumsung T7 sandisk have some issue, the model people talk about is E61 and E81, which makes me feel a bit scared.
This is a recent issue with these drives. The ones you bought years ago are effected.
I have the Sandisk 1 TB version of that same drive. It has failed me. My Macbook pro doesn't image it in Finder. I'll try that recovery app. Hopefully it will help. Thanks for the video and advice.
What sort of work do you do that you're traveling and working so much?
The 4 of these I bought this year have ALL FAILED.
NO WAY. ALL four of the 4TB??
Why did you buy 4 lol
Did they replace them? Now which hard you use hdd or ssd?

Thanks so much for making this video! I got mine for $400 from B&H and I had the exact same experience you did. SanDisk didn't allow me to return it since it was out of the return window so I am waiting for the replacement to come but I feel like it will be the same thing. Their response to you was EXACTLY the response I got. They need to do better!
Absolutely. Sorry you are going through this.
@@lilafromyoutube I saw you posted my tweet in the video about my experience :-). We all have to stick together and help one another.
What camera do you use it’s so clear. :O
Any chance you have a how-to video on backing up your work? Learning a lot from you so far Lila. Cheers!
I always use OWC drives now. Excellent support, fast drives, and extremely small. G-Tech, Sandisk, Western Digital have lost their lustre. Seriously, any disk drive needs to be reliable.
I've used and loved SanDisk for years, all my pen drives and memory cards are from them. I was going to purchase this SSD to edit off of, however, reviews had put me off, and then hearing that this happened to you has helped me make my mind up. I was put off the Samsung T7 due to reviews of it being slow on the Mac, however I've just purchased the 2TB version and will see how it goes! Shame to hear that the customer service experience sucked, you would expect better from an organisation of that size!
how is it working for you so far?
I'm curious to ask, does it support android? Can it read and write data by plugging in a mobile phone?
I've purchased many of these over the course of several years for 4k to 8k video editing, and then suddenly: received THREE defective drives in a row in the span of two weeks. This was about 6 months ago. Something must have happened over there... all of the ones I received prior to then continue to work great to this day.
I always wanted to buy one but was sceptical about performance and cost. I have been using nvme m.2 SSD with external SSD enclosure. Cheaper and works like a charm.
Yup and it’s a lot faster. I paid $142 for 4tb and it’s faster and better. If I was willing to spend $210 I’d get about 4 times the speed. What enclosure do you use? Mine was a cheap $13-14 one on Amazon prime day. It’s a basic orico aluminum tooless (although I prefer screws more secure and how often are we really changing out ssd to matter lol).
I like the sabrent aluminum one it was higher quality but performance was the same and it cost $36 on sale.
I’d advise getting a 20gbp/s since it’s almost the same price unless you either want to go for a cheap like 512gb or 1tb one or it’s mostly like mine as a backup where you don’t really need super fast speeds all the time 10Gbp/s is plenty.
Mine too, I got an orico AL chassis. Works like a charm.
Sorry this happened to you. But just because some drives failed bad doesn’t mean we should not buy these. This 1.7 tb should have been on a NAS and not on a portable ssd.
It shouldn't matter how you store your data. It shouldn't just disappear.
If this was caused by user error (say, she removed it before the Mac finished saving), then that's her fault but if the drives are just randomly failing, that's unacceptable.
Hi, i wonder what is NAs? Im finding solution for my files too
No more Sandisk lila ... Your story is panic 😮
@@Ducmoitapgym NAS = network attached storage
@joemann7971 that's why we are taught the rule of 3 . Can't get mad when you don't follow best practices for data storage .. the rule of 3 is as follows "The basic concept of the 3-2-1 backup strategy is that three copies are made of the data to be protected, the copies are stored on two different types of storage media and one copy of the data is sent off site."
@lilafromyoutube hi. I was reading comments on this video and I'm in debate to buy which one. Because 1. i read in comments that they say speed of transferring data when 75% of ssd is full goes to even 30MB/S. I don't know this issue happen on every ssd or that problem was from their laptop. 2. And I'm concerned about loosing data on ssd that they said in comments . Lila you use samsung ssd now or other brands? Please share us here your experience for 8 months till now. I want to buy one these days. Thank you.
I have the Sandisk 2TB with on issues. 4TB's were expensive and it seems like the rushed out the product without enough failure testing? We've come a long way from 5.25" and 3.5" floppies.
I gave up on SanDisk SD cards many years ago after having many of the extreme cards fail on me.
I have a 1Tb extreme pro SSD and thankfully it’s been fine so far but I have looked at the Samsung drives before and I think I’ll head that way next time - on the memory card front Prograde and Lexar are my tools of choice instead
Yeah I use prograde for my a7sIII!
i'm a very big fan of Samsung Products and my 2TB T7 has performed flawlessly.
glad to hear that!
Have you seen the ssd issues plaguing samsung ssds? The lastest one affecting their evo drives?
T7 is garbage it slows down after 75% used storage. Bought it for my camera that shoot 12 uncompressed raw and it does work until you pass 60% of storage than it starts to drop frames.
@@KumaSelf what is it?
Good for you. My T5 failed after several months.
Same with the new 1tb batches. Worked in the beginning for backup. Checked it 3 months later, keeps auto ejecting itself everytime I start copying any file 5mb or over.
Had the Samsung T7 for a Year or so and no problems with it at all so far.
Use it for my DJ Music and its always doing a lot of small read/writes while in use and not had any issues with corrupted files.
Happened to me. 3 months in, my Sandisk Extreme failed and I lost all files. Moved to T7's. They are doing great so far.
Now I have to deal with my Western Digital Elements 5TB HDD, which is failing after 3 months of usage and took 4TB of footage hostage. I can't believe how hard drives are weak these days...
oh no. that’s bad.
Welcome to the growing list of Samsung T7 users, these things rock we use them on the BMD 6k Pro and they have never (touch wood) failed, not so much as a dropped frame even when using 6k BRAW 😀 also really childish I know but I like that they come in different colours, so we can use them for different shoots and know which is which 😀 of course we could just label them, but you know
That’s not childish, that’s efficient!

You can but I would always have a backup of a backup, to a cloud for example. so if hardware fails, you will still have your pictures in a cloud.
@@lilafromyoutube Sorry for the long reply, but - Seconded, working in IT all too often I see people store their valuable memories or worse, business critical data, on a disk and then all of a sudden they try to access it and the disk is non-functional. There are some cost effective solutions from people such as BackBlaze for backup to the cloud. However a lot of people opt for Office365 which comes with 1Tb of OneDrive storage. So in the industry we always suggest a standard of three locations.
1 - The original working location such as your PC, server, NAS, External Hard Disk, this is the data you will use day to day.
2 - A dedicated backup drive (or NAS), ideally with many restore points so you can go back at least 30 days, this gives you time to realise that something has been deleted before your backup is overwritten. This also allows a rapid recovery time. Backup software is your friend here and will cope with maintaining the history by taking incremental backups automatically.
3 - Cloud based storage which is set to immutable (which means it can't be changed once it is uploaded). Cloud providers will often provide their own backup client software included in the price of the storage subscription (not the case with Office 365).
Some of the great backup companies that provide good support are:
EaseUS, Veeam, Backblaze, BackupVault to name a few. As with anything check out the reviews before you decide. Cloud based your data should be encrypted.
If cost is a factor then you can reduce this by looking at your data and creating sub-directories such as Data I must protect at all costs, Data that I would like to backup but if it was lost I could survive, and data that is not important at all. You can then take steps to protect the folders differently, so the Critical data gets backup up to the cloud, and a backup disk, the not so critical data gets backed up just to a hard disk, and the non-critical data does not get backed up at all. I tend not to suggest this too often as it leads to things being too complicated in the long term, and people tend to mix up what they thing is non-critical. i.e. it's non-critical until it's not there and then it turns out to be super critical!
I use this approach to my RUclips work, the RAW files are massive, often up to 1Tb for a single project. The SD cards get dumped on the working server, and that server only gets backed up to an external disk. If I lose the RAW data it's a pain, but not the end of the world and the cards are not deleted until the project is completed. Once a project is complete, just the final edit gets dumped onto another server which is has both Hard Disk Backup and Cloud backup. That way I am not needlessly transfer Tb's of data to a cloud provider just to delete it a week later (and pay for a ton of cloud storage!).
My final point is you should try to understand how the backup works, this sounds daft but take for example Backblaze, that is designed to run continuously, if there is no backup for 30 days then the backup is gone as it only saves for 30 days history (there is an option to extend this but that is the default situation).
I grabbed this from the web "Overall, if SSD is not getting power for several years, it may lose data. According to research, an SSD can retain your data for a minimum of 2-5 Years without any power supply. Some SSD manufacturers also claim that SSD can save data without a regular power supply for around 15 to 20 years."
So I guess milage may vary depending on the exact SSD.
The longest recovery I have ever done was from some reel to reel tapes that had sat dormant in a box since 1981 (this was 2015) so 34 years. I had to enlist a friend who worked for a famous computer museum in order to find a machine that could read the tapes. We recovered all the files expect for one tape. There were a total of 24 tapes we recovered all the information on 23 of them. We also had to bring the data through several machines to get to a point where It fitted onto a single small USB flash drive! But they had been stored in almost ideal conditions. Luckily I was just involved in the data recovery but apparently after that trying to convert the data files into something useable then took quite a while as the format of the files was so old.

Sorry this happened to you. Most of our videos are edited on sandisc 2nd and 4tb ssd drives. We have like 10 drives of these specific drives and none of them have failed yet over the last 4 years. I’m sure now that I’ve said this it’s bound to happen to us 😂
HAHA knock on wood😂
This is a recent issue with the drives. Started around February. Many drives are failing at an alarming rate. The drives you bought years ago should be fine.
Seems like an issue only with crApple hadrware.
Blame the right company.
I've never had this issue, it's possible that it was caused by user error! I'm currious if this person checked the files after they transfered them or just assumed they transfered properly to begin with.
Unfortunately, it happened to me, :( I got new 2021 Sandisk 1TB portable SSD.
It was normal, important data around 1 T was copied to it three months ago.
I tried to read some data and connect to laptop last week. No response, as if the SSD was dead or the USB was not cut. it got though warm when connected, but non recognizable , frustrated I need my files back.
Any advice??
I was also a loyal customer, and they started to fall behind. I am moving little by little to ProGrade for camera storage. Yes the NAS is great, but it's important to back up it outside the premises, just in case it fails, and even with 10gbe is not exactly fast for today's standards, although it's fast enough for most tasks. Thanks for sharing your experience.

I've been searching for a tutorial on this and I haven't gotten one. Please help do a video tutorial on this, please and please. I trust it will also help you grow your page because the video will have a lot of views😁. Thanks❤
@@Rexxo_1 this will be greatly appreciated. 👌🏽
By default when you buy this device, I noticed that the filesystem is Exfat which really risky because it does not have journaling functionality. So before you buy SSDs make sure that the format is NTFS and Partition type is GPT not MBR.
Does anyone know if the T7 still has frame skipping issues that have been reported with the Atem minis? I read a lot of negative reviews about this so I've steered away from the T7s.
External storage my photography files which one is safe hdd or sdd ?
Hdd easily recoverd files but sdd is difficult friends told me thats true or no ?
I have a couple of the 2TB SSD's and haven't had any issues - I wonder if it's that it is 4TB or just a bad batch?
I have the 2tb extreme V2, and just right now. I'm trying to retrieve my 1tb files. The whole ssd is corrupted.
I have this a 2 TB San Disk Extreme and all the time it is disconnecting if I leave the drive plugged in and the Mac goes to sleep. It will give me the disk has not been ejected properly message, if the computer goes to sleep. This freaks me out as I don't want corrupted data, so I've turned off sleep on my mac entirely, but sometimes if I leave the disk in the computer it will still give me the message. I now unmount and unplug the drive when I go away from my computer say for the night. On top of that I edit in Lightroom on this drive and it has been giving me beach balls when I zoom in when in the develop module. I am now looking for another more reliable ssd to replace this one as I don't trust it. Not sure if the sleep issue is on Apple end or the drive is just not compatible but this is concerning.
i use kingston and seagate and never had a problem(best portabel hdd i had over 15years for movies on bedroom tv and its still running great but lately started to be pc told its someting wrong but cant find what) sadly this happens and i wounder what ssd portabel do u use from now on?

Thanks 4 video(dont like samsung myself high price n not better then kingston for me atleast never had a good thing w them)..
Yes . I also got a problem when transfer 2.4 T files. It failed and never worked again. My Sand disk extreme pro 2T also has a problem of heating and stop connected issue.
Thank you for this video! I just bought a t7 and kinda regretting choosing it instead of the sandisk but after watching your video I feel proud of my decision LOL
1TB SanDisk Extreme SSD failed on me. It doesn't even show up in the Disk Utilty on my MacBook Air. I upgraded the operating system, but didn't fix it. When I look up the status of the USB-C port, it recognizes that something is there, but I might as well be connected to a potato because there is NO action. Same when connecting to my Dell laptop running Windows.
quick question is the Sandisk 1 tb SSD only for mac cause my 1 TB won't work i tried everything it would not show up anywhere and when I tried to format it, it wouldn't let me it only has the mac file showing up
No idea, but I don’t think so. Google is your best friend!
What was the data recovery tool used? I don’t see it in the description
geni.us/recoveryapp! :) adding it to the description, thanks!
which file save app did you use?
Thanks for speaking out about this issue, much appreciated 👍
Initialy I taught the same as it's appear 0 byte on the screen, but when I browse the file tree there is two icon one with 0 and the other with the ssd file, that to appear after I reinstall the driver come with the drive
Curious, do you feel like you are able to edit off of the Samsung T7? I tend to use SSD portable drives not only for storage, but also for editing from as well.
I usually edit locally but I did edit a small project off the T7 and it was fine. Haven’t worked on big projects on the drive yet
You definitely can 🎉
thank you so much for making this video. i was thinking about buying this exact ssd to back up my photos, but it went out of stock so i decided to look for a different one and i found this video.. just saved me a lot of money & hassle
How did you do those text effects?
Had a similar issue with a 1 tb can't remember what version Pro or not. The drive simply died and would not mount. Like you, I had not backup yet and lost a lot of photos. I did get a replacement, but I've noticed that that drive runs really hot and I'm not very confident about it. I just have it as a backup drive but its empty for now. I've been using a SanDisk internal 2.5 with a insignia enclosure. Even though its a little bit slower. I have more confidence in that enclosure and SSD combo that the Extreme portable.
I had same issue with 2 ssd 2TB each (extreme pro). Both failed after short time. SanDisk won’t refund me. I am now waiting a replacement for about a month (due to their hacking issues) so so disappointing
I have four 1tb extreme drives and they’ve all been amazing but the one I use for my ipad gets really hot. I have never, in a decade of brand use had a data loss problem. Maybe it was a bad batch.
So is it just the 4TB version? Do people have the same issue with less storage options? I'm considering the 2TB one, my lifestyle won't require that much storage, and I figure in a few years they will make even bigger drives and faster transfer protocols and I will be replacing the drive anyway.
I just really like the form factor and on my work surface sometimes I actually appreciate having a hole for hanging.
So far the 2tb seems fine.
Is the WD MY PASSPORT SSD is ok or same issue..???
I can’t find which app you used to recover the data
Thank you very much for the video! 👍 I'm sure that if you had done a write test with "Hard Disk Sentinel" or some similar program before using it, you would have seen bad sectors.
I have a SanDisk Extreme SDSSDE61-1T00, it failed suddenly with all data gone. I did quite a few research, all methods related to software and firmware were of no help. Finally I found a resistor in the NVME card was loose and fell down when my tweezer touched. After I connect the resistor back, all the data is accessible again. Root cause is the poor soldering and design.
Mac file format is different cause problems right?
Did you do a firmware update before you buck your data?
Had the Sandisk E81 4TB and painfully slow when plugged in and for a few times just won't load at all.
i had issue also with my ssd 2TB the same brand, windows always detected error and transfer speed becoming very slow
I recently bought the 2TB version to provide extra storage on my laptop. No problems so far and it is just holding copies of manuals that can be replaced. Thanks for the heads up on potential problems. I have seen some manufacturers will not acknowledge a problem until they are close to having it fixed, otherwise it can blow up in their face even worse. Many customers will want a preemptive fix when they don't have the problem and there isn't a fix available yet. That doesn't make it right, I'm just explaining how they look at it.
how hot dose it run when you transfer data to it ?
@@tomboy7805 If It hasn't been accessed in a bit, It takes a few moments to wake up, then it seems plenty fast. A little warm to the touch but nothing that seems excessive compared to my other SSD, A 1TB NVME in an external case with a heat sink.
Unless you’re using the software specifically why not just buy a m.2 nvme and a decent enclosure for same price or cheaper??
I have 2-2T and 1T, none work. I bought and had several months before I used. I was trying to move off of 500g seagate to a 2T. Tells me I need extra 81G to move. I was trying to move 128G.
I bought a 5TB San Disk from Amazon and it just won't read on any computer. I really should have told Amazon and tried to get my money back. I just used it as a Time Machine back up and I didn't lose anything I couldn't recover, so I pretty much just took it dry. I honestly thought ot was cause I didn't properly eject it. Lol. Is the ejecting thing just a myth? Or can you really lose everything?
And what about the models Sandisk by 1 or 2TB? The reliable is exactly the same?
They should be more reliable but my 2tb also failed so I don’t know. Maybe read some comments on this video!
I’ve been having the same problem with my 1TB Extreme, I have to constantly run First Aid and repair the sectors. But now it’s not even mounting and crashes the host… I think I’m gona move over to the T7 myself. I can’t afford to lose these files though…
Got a 1tb. Glad I use it mainly for files I already have elsewhere in case that happens. I'll have to keep an eye on that and make sure it doesn't.
it’s always a good idea to have a backup! but those external SSDs are also just used for quick/short term file storage so the fact that the 4tb is unreliable sucks. Haven’t seen any bad stories about the 1 tb or 2 tb so I think you’re fine!
@@lilafromyoutube i might be but i was planning on doing more of my work on mobile this year so i'm going to make some adjustments to that plan. I appreciate the heads up!
Oh yeah then def get something that’s more reliable
I can't spot the link to the data-recovery tool in the description.
I bought my first SanDisk SSD this year, now I worried to store anything on this drive. There is no firmware update for 2TB model.
