@@azurekite3870 The SanDisk Extreme and Extreme Pro has a lot of negative reviews about it, mostly about sudden death and loss of data. Keep this in consideration when buying a portable ssd.
@0:52 "They're designed to be fast, secure, and less prone to failure." The adverb "fast" needs clarification. More, below. @4:53 "We achieved..." goes on to state speed results, which are incomplete. Folks, all of the speeds mentioned in this review are for relatively small data transfers. Perhaps up to several gigabytes. But if you continuously write many more gigabytes of data, you will discover that your super fast SSD will probably slow to under 100MB/s, or even far slower than that. Why? The manufacturers design these SSDs with, perhaps, 10% of the drive made with fast NAND fabric, and the other 90% is made with inexpensive, slow NAND fabric. So when you copy files to the SSD, it will always use the fast NAND fabric, if it is available (and for general use, it will always be available). When the drive is idle (which for most people, is most of the time), the drive's controller moves the data from the fast NAND fabric to the slow NAND fabric. Your computer does not see that. It happens independently of the computer (as long as the drive has power). So the next time you go to copy files to your SSD, it will have freed up its fast NAND fabric, and you will see only fast transfer speeds. For most people, this is not a problem. But if you will be writing to ½ of the drive, non-stop, you will be disappointed, when the speed changes from warp to snail, when the fast NAND fabric fills up before you give it time to free up. How much of the SSD will have fast NAND fabric vs. slow NAND fabric varies from model to model. The manufacturers do not publish that information. They pretend that the entire drive is fast. You would have to write a huge file to the SSD, and watch for when the file transfer slows down. You can then figure out how many gigabytes got transferred before it slowed down. If you have a 500GB SSD, and you copied a 100GB file to it, and it slowed down when it was done copying 25GB, then you have 25GB of fast NAND fabric, and 475GB of slow NAND fabric. For most folks, that is fine, as most folks will not copy that much data without rest. But this should not be a secret kept from you from the manufacturers. I own a Samsung T5, and briefly owned a Samsung T7. The T7 is supposedly twice the speed of the T5. That is true, for a small portion of the T7. The bulk of the T7 is very slow (USB 2.0 speed neighborhood), and is the reason that I returned it. The T5 will run at nearly the rated speed, without ever slowing down. So if you are using the T7 for not huge files, then you will be happy. Otherwise, the T5 will destroy the T7 for competing large file transfers. Samsung probably cut their costs significantly, when they started making the T7, as only a small portion of it uses pricey NAND fabric, and the other ~90% of it uses inexpensive, slow NAND fabric. And Samsung got to advertise the huge speed increase, without mentioning that it is for only, perhaps, 10% of the drive's capacity. Please also note that it is not only about the USB version specifications (3.x gen x). Those specifications are important. But they only determine the speed of the protocol. If the drive is made with ho-hum parts, you will not get anywhere near the speed of the specification.
Pro Tip; dont buy the sandisk ultra and pro versions. The components can come off the NVME PCB (board) and will result in dataloss. Do not let yourself be fooled that this was/is an firmware issue. That is hardware failure. I built an external SSD using a standard M2 2280 drive with an usb housing. So you can choose yourself which SSD and capacity you want or need. And no real knowledge of computers is required.
Went with the Samsung T7 Shield, $110 off at Best Buy right now. Better not lose data! Like what has been reported with the Sandisk. Costco sells the Sandisk 2TB, wonder if those ones are having any issues.
One thing note before you buy a portable SSD is make sure it can also work with smartphone with USB Type-C, if you want to buy other brands besides Samsung. I bought myself a Transcend 1TB portable SSD yesterday. After I format my SSD to exFAT by laptop, I plug into my S22 Ultra. Nothing happened. I took out and plug in again a few times, and the result is the same. I decided to plug in my SSD into my laptop to check if it's working, and it shows that it's actually working fine. I then decided to check if there's something wrong with my S22 Ultra Type-C port, so I use a flash drive that comes with both Type-C and USB-A 3.0 and plug into my phone. It's actually working fine. So my guess is that my portable Transcend SSD can only work with PCs, and isn't compatible with smartphones and USB OTG (On-The-Go). So yeah, be careful if you want to buy an SSD for your phone if you prefer other brands besides Samsung.

I don’t want any of them. My spaceship has a data control device. That’s only as big as a 3/4 of a micron. And it can store 10,000,000,000×1,000,000,000 MB. And it can transfer information in a parse in a. Quarter of nanometer. and besides that it’s in a color that you can’t see because you are human beings on this earth and only people like me can see the color that it is yeah so don’t buy any of them buy mine. It’s only $.12 yeah in the last 10 billion years and it has and it has a laserbeam transfer port that hooks to the mothership in a transfer so much information hasn’t even been written yet in this whole galaxy yeah it’s really cool
