I've always spoken really good things about Seagate external drives, but my opinion has changed recently. I have had 3 Seagate external hdd's. I would personally recommend going with the older model of the BackupPlus drive (with the silver logo, NOT the dark logo on the enclosure). I have an old silver logo 4TB HDD that's seen moderate usage (large file transfers, watching large MKV videos from the drive, and gaming from it now and then) over the span of 7 years or so. Checks good in CrystalDiskInfo, no issues. I also have a newer 4TB HDD with the dark logo which has begun failing after 2 years of light usage. File storage only. C05 and C06 caution alarms in CrystalDiskInfo. I also have a very old 750GB HDD I bought some 10+ yrs ago now. Ran CrystalDisk on it recently and found it has a C05 caution. I consider it to have been a good drive, with it lasting such a long time with no issues until now... Which, I haven't had any with it even with the C05 caution, but I consider it to be failing with the caution alarm. The newer 4TB I do have issues with. There are now corrupted files which will not transfer and the copying files window just hangs until I get an error. With all that said, any mechanical hdd purchase can be hit or miss seemingly at random. What I would recommend is getting a 3.5" HDD and a separate enclosure. I feel they might be much more reliable that 2.5" external/portable HDDs, as manufacturers could just be plopping HDDs from the bin that didn't pass inspection with flying colors, but were still deemed market-worthy. Also, research, scan, and fully test your drives before beginning any backup operations. And have multiple copies, as it's a major headache when one fails and your data becomes non-recoverable.
Yo cool video man I really like it. Nice to hear a human voice and not ai hahahaha. I’m going to get that Seagate Backup plus. On a mission to download every single ROM that exists lol.
I’ve had the WD passport for years and it sucks. I have never been able to use it for any back ups or anything. Maybe I just haven’t found a correct video yet, but I purchased it to back up my iPhone and still have no luck.
I have a question, i need more storage for games to download. If i get an external hard drive and get it all set up with the extra storage and stuff, if i keep it plugged in (not touching it or anything) and download games on steam with it plugged in will it affect gameplay or loading times or anything at all? (for PC/laptop). Thanks.
Yes. It does affect load times. The reason is that the storage system is mechanical whereas an SSD is non-mechanical in how it stores data. HDDs are much cheaper and have more storage than SSDs of the same price, but they are vulnerable to internal damage if dropped and reading speeds are slower than SSD.
I have a Tablo DVR system where I access the external HD from a remote location when I'm out of town to watch my recordings. The recordings are upload from my Firecuda Gaming HD. Occasionally I get buffering when I'm watching a movie and I think the problem maybe my HD is too slow to upload the movies. Maybe I need a much fast HD to upload the movies. Which Hard Drive do you recommend.? It can be 500gb or 1TB hard drive.
I bought 5 TB WD My Passport last year, now it's death. for better stay away from it at least for 4-5 TB. I read a lot of problems with them from users.
If u have to choose between WD 8TB My Book Desktop HDD and ADATA 5TB HD710 Pro Which one would be ur choice based on product quality (speed isn't my priority here) Which one would last longer and less likely to have problems with ( u know I'm one of those people who appreciates good Warranty Services but wish to never need it)
@@steveo6408 which wd you mean? i have the old one 320gb which still work until now too. but 5 tb, better consider not to buy. i heard some ppl also have same problen with teir 4 tb. do you have recommendation for me to buy 5 tb other than wd bro? i'm searching for new one to save my data
Yes lost countless files have a 4tb sea gate of music and digital art files and photos and studio project files that have pretty much lost bc the connector is busted and doesn’t connect. Have another 2 tb that’s giving out never buying sea gate again
Not trying to be rude to seagate. But... I've owned 3 now. The first 2 I owned lasted a year before total failure. And the 3rd one somehow lasted 10 years. I'm hoping to find something better than risking data loss after 1 year XD
WD twice now at 1tb and both died on the vine along with 55,000 photos. You focus so much on crap like how it feels in your hand why don’t you feature reliability? Why buy one if they’re not?
anyone has experience with samsung 4-5 TB? i need 5 tb hdd after my WD 5 tb only worked for like 3-5 months. i read about seagate, too scary to buy just like WD.
san disk and wd storages seem to have problems and some storages have experienced data loss. The problems are with SSDs but i dont really trust them anymore
I have an old wd passport that is years old and it never gave me a problem. I may buy the updated version he talked about. Amazon cyber Monday 11/20/23 may bring a lower price.
@@davidjurke5328 Huh ssd is worse? I thought HDDs are more unreliable and lasts 3-5 years, while SSDs are typically 10+ years? My Seagate Portable HDD just failed on me after barely over 2 years, that's why I'm here.
@@auntielu4394thanks for this simple comments, I always hear people saying bad stuff about every hard drive for some reason. Like they had a specific problem where they didn’t work after a week or something.
My 2 tb wd hard drive started having clicking sounds and isn't being recognized now. Worked for about 7 years. My 4 tb hd of the same just started making clicking sounds.. so looking to get a new one now. This is also 6 years old
What about long-term reliability? WD has bought out G-Drive, and their lifespans now suck. So, I am no longer buying G-Drives, and WD in general is now suspect to me. In 2020, I bought three 4TB external drives, two with a more traditional USB interface, and one with a TB3 or 4 / USB-C interface (frankly I'm not which at the moment). So far, two of them have died. One was replaced, being within warranty, and the other I have to eat because it's out of warranty. I have three much older G-Drives, which I believe I purchased in... 2014? Two 4TB, one 2TB. In 2019, I dropped them onto a floor by accidentally pulling their power cord. One of them lost a FW800 port because of this fall. Well, guess what? They're STILL usable. One is acting as my DVR disk, which gets used almost every day (though I back up my recordings). However, out of the three newer ones I bought in 2020, two are now dead, and not because I pulled them to the floor. I have one that has not yet died or needed replacing, and that's my 12TB TMB drive. I am seeking a cloud service because I have to suspect that its days are going to be numbered now, too. No more G-Drive for me. Used to be reliable -- but WD took over, and since they've lost their edge.

lol you must be joking. Seatgate are awful. Most prone to get corrupted.
I really like how you categorized each hard drive based on your needs (for example, cheapness, size, etc).

How do you recommend to test the drive? And is there a drive that you would say is more recommendable than the Seagate? Thx

I think Lacie hard disks are a pretty good option in case you want to save documents as backup, for work the best options are always SSD’s
is the back up plus different from back up plus slim and one touch model?
