Love this! It's tiny. Man we have come such a long way in terms of how much space they can cram into small devices. Getting this, always looking for ways to reduce the weight of my travel bags!
I debated between this and the Samsung T5 for my small mobile drive-both got great reviews. Glad to see review with iPad OS. I will use mine with hub mostly so will use USBa most of the time. (I bought the T5 and renamed it on my Mac). Glad to see you'll compare. My other externals are all HHD but for mobile happy to have an SSD.
I have one of these and I use it on my new 12.9 iPad Pro Generation 4 and it works great. I formatted it in the X pro format. I use it between my Apple to PC and it work great.
I’m about to get an iPad Pro to edit videos for my 8yr olds YT channel, Rumble O Death, and was looking at getting the WD wi-fi SSD, will you be doing any testing on this?? Keep up the good work 👍
The USB transfer speed is very slow on your iPad Pro with USB-C 3.1 port. 1.84 GB in 14s = 134 MB/s My OnePlus 7 Pro phone can with 5 GB video file in 16s = 320 MB/s.
yeah, it took about 15 seconds to transfer that movie. I have no idea what you are talking about here, cause it obviously isn't related to the video or the transfer speed depicted in the video.
How did you make it work? My iPad Pro with iPadOS 13.4.1 will not recognize the Sandisk Extreme. A chat with Sandisk support revealed that it is not intended nor certified to work with iPad or iPhone. Is there any trick?
So you informed me on how to connect this SSD drive I already had, but wasn’t using till now. What a great useful discovery. Now I’ve come up with an issue that you might have a solution I can use. I can transfer files back and forth, but what I can’t seem to do is transfer photos on my iPad Pro library onto my extreme SSD. My iPad doesn’t seem to see it as an option for me to use directly from my photo library to my SSD drive. What am I not doing or seeing?
Which filesystem type did you use? ExFat or APFS? Do you know if it is possible to use APFS encrypted? I read some rumors that the 1TB version does not work. Can someone confirm?
Great Vid. Can I use it in my iPad Pro 1. Gen.? Can I connect it with an usb c to lightning cable directly to my iPad Pro 1. Gen.? Or du I need the camera lightning adapter?
Thanks for this video. I'm planing to buy an iPad pro 64gb instead of the air 254gb since now you can use external storage and my university gives me 1tb of onedrive. I want just two apps for taking notes, procreate and some games (fornite, pubg and apple arcade when its out) do you think it's wise to buy the iPad pro 64gb?
TaeSone I mean it depends on how long you want the iPad. I opted for the pro with 256 gb just for a little more future proofing. I’m planning on keeping it for at least 4 more years
I finally got this to work by using a fully powered battery bank for the power source. When the power runs down to 50% it stops working. This is on the first iPad Pro . It would not work with any of my Apple power bricks. Thanks!
I trust this drive over normal hard drives at this time, because you cannot "Eject" a normal hard drive like you do on Mac OS. SSDs and Thumb Drives are fine to yank out, after all operations are done!
interesting video on operating in iPadOS. I have a sixth gen 2018 iPad with Apple pencil, and I am excited for the release of iPadOS this September 2019.

What I really want to know is: can LumaFusion directly access the files from it? I am planning to upgrage to the iPad Pro 512gb from the iPad 6th Gen 32gb just because of LumaFusion. But if this does the trick, I'd go for this instead.
Luma Fusion imports from a drive into a project, so it will see the SSD... When you are done with that project, move it to the SSD to clear space on the iPad.
I just bought the 1TB extreme pro. I downloaded a bunch of files from my MacBook Pro onto it and wanted to see how it worked on my iPad Pro 11” 4th gen running iOS 17.4.1. The drive is not showing up in the Files app. Shouldn’t it appear in the Locations menu along with iCloud drive and On My iPad?
Hey dear I’m seriously confused because in your older video you’re using Apple adopter to connect SanDisk with iPad 6th generation but in this video you’re directly connecting SanDisk with your iPad Pro !!! so in which circumstances do I need to use Apple adopter ? Or can I connect my iPad 8th gen. To my SanDisk SSD with the given type c USB to lightening with adopter ? Or only pro models don’t need adopter ? Please answer.
@@TheAverageTechGuy can I use my iPad charging cable to connect with SanDisk SSD because it has both USB -C and USB-A because I want to buy and carry one more cable if external storage device doesn’t need power. Thank you for your reply bro
Okay, good product (I bought the Dell SSD) but the problem is USB-C - the Dell SSD has a Thunderbolt 3 connection so that a MacBook Pro can take advantage of the SSD ie Edit 4K! But the USB-C is the bottleneck for an iPad. You won’t get to take advantage of the SSD. I guess it’s good for playing movies (ie reading but not WRITING) but we haven’t found the high speed connection for the iPad to make it a Video Editing alternative to a Mac (as Apple intends)
