Happy Monday everyone! Hope you all had a great weekend. Today, we have the latest luxury sport sedans going head to head. Before you see which one we choose as the winner, let us know which one you guys would put in your driveway? Cadillac CT5-V or Genesis G70 3.3T?
I'd take the G70 because I don't really care too much about the back seat and it's 10K cheaper. But if I needed the space, the CT5V still represents a great value.
Maybe the next gen or after the facelift. The current G70 is a mess of unrelated styling cues to make it be more premium but comes off as a discount vibe, especially with the flagrant Hyundai interior tech. I think they are getting there though and the new G80 is a more cohesive design that will help build the brand.
I wouldn't think to compare these two cars. As good as the G70 looks, I don't get a feeling of prestige or quality from Hyundai/Genesis. There is the copycat nature of the brand, the not reporting defects in the past and the engine fires of the 4 cylinders. It's just hard to look at the brand as legitimate luxury. Aside from all of that the G70 is an appealing package but the CT-5 V would definitely be my choice. Just enough V to be cool and quick without spending 100k.
Excellent comparison...thanks for testing these two great cars making waves in this segment. I concur with your nod to the Cadillac CT5-V...great engine, chassis, tech, packaging and styling.
The G70 actually makes 400+ ft/lbs of torque as seen by stock dyno's but it's being torque limited on launch. You can see the actual performance of the 3.3T when comparing 5-60, 30-50 and 50-70 times against competitors, where it's faster than all but the M340i. Cadillac has a nice car here, although the gauge cluster looks low rent. I like the sound, infotainment screen, front end and space more in the CT5. The rest goes to the G70 in my estimation. My previous car was an ATS 3.6 and I liked it but the materials weren't what they seemed and it was already having issues at the 2 year mark. My G70 has been solid.
Slip Angle Sorry am I missing something? Are the gauges in the Genesis G70 of “higher quality” plastics or something? Because they both literally feature the same style of gauge yet the Cadillac CT5 was the only one to receive the negative feedback. That’s hilarious.

The 10 speed transmission takes forever to downshift- it takes 2-3 seconds when you are pushing it. It will only downshift at 2000 rpm in manual mode. The G70 gives you every downshift and has much better handling and steering feel. The Cadillac is not as agile (which makes sense because its bigger).
@@layne4376 check out Matt Farah's review of the Cadillac. ruclips.net/video/46SfSBLrMlc/видео.html I own the G70 and to be fair I am a little biased. It's not sports car feel of connection but the steering is crisp enough to call it a sports sedan.
Americans like the luxury of roomy comfortable cabins and the convenience of great interior space. The Genesis is just trying to be a cheaper generic German so they model after Europe’s smaller much tighter interiors.
Perfect timing, Redline! I’m shopping these two vehicles as well as the M340i, Tesla Model S LR, Model 3 Performance, Genesis G80, S5 Sportback and Mercedes Benz E53. No matter which one I choose I know I’ll be pleased with my selection. What a wonderful time to be in the market! :)
I am comparing the Cadillac to a 540I and M340i. To be honest for the money and options, the Cadillac is a better deal, this coming from a BMW guy for the last 20 years. Every one keeps talking about the plastic in GM cars but BMW has it too unless you go up in options.
Both of these cars are awesome! They both offer good performance with excellent driving dynamics and well done interiors. The G70 is likely to be more reliable. The CT5 is bigger and about 10K more expensive. Still, both are great values.
@@GoofieNewfie But then you need to decide if you want a fully loaded car or a base car for the same money. Base German cars are not very appealing imo.
Resell, reliability, telematics, fit and finish all go to the Genesis. I like the exterior of the Caddy, but that's about it. When the new G70 comes out, it'll be light years ahead.
I’m calling bullshit. Genesis resale value is nothing to write home about. A “V” series Cadillac is going to hold it’s value over the years much better than any Genesis especially a Genesis G70 with a Kia Forte’s infotainment system. Where exactly is the fit and finish superior to the Cadillac CT5? How exactly is the CT5 less reliable than the G70 and what data or proof do you have to show this? The CT5 debuted GM’s all new electrical architecture so any electrical gremlins on the ATS/CTS aren’t even a factor here. The Alpha 2 platform is phenomenal, they both have turbocharged V6 engines, GM’s 10-speed has proven to be reliable... you can’t predict the reliability of a brand new car. Your points are all void. Just say you like the G70 better next time.🤷🏾♂️
@@barrygoldwasser5449 We all know "reality" is subjective. When you say "statistics and numbers" it would behoove you to actually cite/present those so we can actually have a discussion. I suspect that they don't exist but I'm open to being convinced otherwise.
@@NiteEy3 G70 NEEDS that warranty in order to help sales. That's what happens when you're a cheap Korean piece of plastic, with zero brand recognition.
Thanks for the great review of these two cars. I am putting break-in miles on my recent 3.3 G70 purchase, and I was just noticing that the G70 does not ride as well as a 2008 CTS that I drove as a rental. The magic of Cadillac's magnetorheological dampers, of course, is the difference. Your review is very fair, and spot-on. Thanks for giving Genesis and the G70 credit where credit is due. The Caddy is prolly slightly better overall, but the G70 is still a great value proposition. When building the Caddy online, when you start adding options above the base model, they add up pretty quickly, and you can end up $10,000 over an equivalent G70. No regrets about buying the G70. If we want cars like that on the market, we need to buy them. The other great thing about the Genesis, at least in my area, is that unlike an Acura TLX Type S, Genesis is actually building enough of them that the dealers can't treat them like Unobtainium. Honda's marketing strategy with the CTR and TLX Type S managed to push me out of the Honda fold and over to Hyundai/Kia.
The g70 is so damn beautiful. I've ignored most luxury sedans because they all felt the same and never caught my attention. A g70 I rented looks so good that I never got bored looking at it. The look is way better looking to me compared to most luxury cars except Cadillac which to me is pretty even. Cadillac make some sexy sport sedans but the price point on the Genesis wins me over.
I have the 2020 G70 3.3t and absolutely love it. I’m constantly getting asked about it. I love the way it drives, it’s luxurious inside, and its got crazy power. That said, this would have been a fairer comparison if you compared the Cadillac with the new G70 model; its a little disingenuous to compare a new model with an older model
I know it's two years later, but I still like the Cadillac even though it's a tad slower (than Genesis as well as the German models) though you really have to pay to get all the goodies. It's about $65k Monroney, which is a deal compared to the 5 series it's sized similar to.
And fully loaded, the price of the caddy would be comparable to the v6 G80. I suppose it still wouldn't be a fair fight, as the G80 would absolutely kill the Caddy.
@@mrbillcollecta How are you going to tell somebody else how they’re supposed to shop? Y’all all sound dumb. Cadillac says the CT5 is a 3-series competitor. That’s the end of it. It doesn’t matter where _you_ believe it should compete because of whatever reason.
@@GoofieNewfie the G80 is bigger than the Cadillac, so there is no exact comparison between the two brands... although if we were to compare the two brands in general, I would say that although Korean cars have improved a lot in recent years they are *still lacking a lot to become real premiums* .
No dumb ass. The G70 does 0-60 in a SLOWWW 4.5 seconds. The CT4 V Blackwing goes from 0-60 in 3 seconds!! Thats almost 2 seconds faster than the G70! I beat a G70 and a G90 in my bone stock Cadillac ATS. No lie. LOL. Genesis are like Scions....They're cute cars for teenage girls who are about to graduate high school.....
Kudos to both manufacturers for putting cars with real honest to god colors on them in your hands to film and test. (That green...) Which one would I buy? Cadillac CPO and wait for the refreshed G70 to come out with the rumored 2.5 T for a new base engine.
Thanks for comparing these two vehicles. The Cadillac is well done but oh my, that design of the rear three quarters! What a wasted opportunity to make a car look great. That doo-dad add on of plastic is ridiculous, not to mention ugly. Love the Genesis and can't wait for the updated versions to kick Cadillac' butt.
fully agree, Caddy looks awesome!!!! i've loved their design direction the past several years.. but we went with a indigo stinger... d-awd, lsd, hatchback, little larger than g70.. and couldn't beat the 37k otd price!!
Not sure if you'll see this but thank you for this comparison. Can't wait to watch it. Just sold my ats 2.0t since I'm working from home. Will have to buy a car come mid 2021. Perfect timing. Gonna be watching the cpo market for both come spring 2021!
zonapainter Yes but they compete in different classes and that’s what Sofyan said in the video. Cadillac deliberately makes tweeners so they’re the size of a larger class while costing the same as the lower one. Both of these cars compete with the S4, M340, and C43. The CT4 competes with the A3. Now he can do a follow up video with the CT4 to see how they stack up but they aren’t competitors
@@lttsr you can believe what you want, but price isn't the determining factor for competitors in class. The CT5-V is the same size as the CTS-V. How many automotive publications did you ever hear say that the CTS-V competed against a M3? Zero. It was a direct competitor to the M5, E63, and RS6.
zonapainter Just use your common sense please. You’re gonna tell me that GM is going to price their 5 series and E class competitor more 20k less than their competitors? Really? Are you that stupid? Not even Hyundai/Genesis does that and Cadillac has far more brand cachet. It’s very obvious which class of car they were going after especially when you look at how the trim levels and horsepower stack up. They did it deliberately to give themselves a competitive advantage. Why do you think the CT4-V has only 325 hp and has a 4 cylinder? Hint, it competes with the S3 but is the size of the A4. Maybe you should use your head a little bit.
Sofyan I love your videos. Been subscribed to your channel since the Ford dealership days. You say you are always looking for suggestions on what we want to see and how to improve the viewer experience. Well I have one suggestion: rolling shots. I would love to see what the car looks like rolling down the road. What it looks like doing a launch from outside the vehicle. Also if you get a truck or suv maybe find an off-road area to show shots of that and test as well. These are just suggestions I think others would like to see as well and if not then keep up the great reviews and no matter what I’ll be a subscriber for life. Cheers.
Thank you sofyan for just giving your honest opinion. You didn't cop out and say "oh it's a GM so I automatically choose the genesis" you looked at it on it's own merit without any bias.
I leased a 2021 CT5 with the V-6 and I love it! I don't use all the power ALL the time.... but it's there if you need it and then some . Way different than my 1992 Brougham.... that's how I remember Cadillac... but this car gives you the best of both worlds
This really should have been a comparison between the CT-5 and G80. The size difference is only 3 inches vs the 10 inches difference between the CT-5 and G70. You chose this comparison based on price. If you had brought in the G80, you would see that the Cadillac is not much more expensive than the Genesis.
I feel like the CT4-V would've made a better comparison with it's size, price, or torque. Or they should've compared the G80 to the CT5-V for it's size, price, and torque
@@antholito all new cars come with a warranty. Genesis’ 10 year warranty is a gimmick they try to use as a “feature” to attract buyers lol and you will easily void aforementioned warranty. Read your South Korean fine print. Lol
I happen to like the Genesis 5 to 1 in every category to the cadillac. Not even close. Not a fan of today's Cadillac at all. And in the same regard I am really digging where Genesis is headed!
Both seem nice but my choice is the Caddy. Hands down. If you were excited about the power on this CT5, check out the new 2022 CT5 Blackwing. What a monster. 0-60 3.4 seconds with a 650 + HP V8. Thank you for the review.
Not everybody likes having that feature standard. My dad drives an E60 BMW which had a standard sunroof and he always talks about how it shouldn't have been forced on buyers. I do think GM was being cheap with the driver's assistance tech not being standard though, and $58k should buy heated rear seats, or heated AND cooled if they want to give buyers an even better impression.
I have a Stinger and it is not a compact--they are 4000lb plus mid size cars--the caddy is just a little bigger for a midsize--approaching a full size car.
For what it's worth, a longer wheelbase will give you a better ride regardless of the suspension tuning. That's why the Caddy feels like a slightly better daily.
James Russo True, that helps, but the CT5’s ace is the trick mag ride suspension setup from the C8 Corvette. There’s not a better, more advanced suspension available anywhere.
The screen size is on the genesis is a very nice size not to big or not to small. I don’t know why these manufactures feel the need to have such massive size screen, it’s ridiculous
Both are great but got myself a Kia Stinger GT awd indigo edition for $40K. MSRP $49K with added paint protection ceramic coating and some other shits about $3K for a total of $52K. So $12K in discount total for the car, not a bad choice at all. Daily driving my lexus NX200T to work and taking the stinger GT on the weekend. I did all the rebadges and carbon ppf gloss the hood and it looked gorgegous. In this video though I would still go for the G70 if you are gonna lease it. Most guys here worry too much about depreciation so leasing is the best choice for both of these cars.
One thing nobody points out anymore. G70 has a spare tire. At least the ones I test drove did here in Canada. It doesn't have run flats either thank god. The Ct5 does have run flats, and no spare tire and the trunk is no bigger really. We need to make more noise about the lack of spare tires these days, and lack of fog lights too! safety features required by many. I'm afraid these low profile tires just don't survive any kinda of pot hole, and no fix a flat kit will help you in that situation. Now, where I live, cell service is spotty in hills and long highways where there are no garages or anything for hours. Toss in a storm, winter, cold, or just rain, and that flat tire isn't just annoying anymore it is life threatening. As someone that had a Acura with a fix a flat kit and no run flats, the anxiety that created on long drives was real. Government needs to mandate spare tires as a requirement. Run flats are horrible tires that are far too expensive, especially on a AWD car where a flat tire might require all 4 tires to be changed to not mess up the AWD system.
You do understand how run-flats work, right? They’re made to drive up to 50 miles with ZERO pressure....having owned cars with both, they’ve proven to be VERY effective when and if you have a tire event. It is safer and more convenient than having to change wheels to a spare.
I sat in the CT5 at my dealer a couple of weeks ago. The front legroom is a smidge better than my previous CTS V-Sport which I thought was pretty good for the class and required for a buyer like myself (a little taller than most people). The extra leg room is a big plus considering the pervious CTS sucked in rear legroom and the ATS was worse.
I’ve test driven a CT5-V, and at 6’-6”, the poor packaging on the CTS prevented me from getting a V-Sport years ago. The CT5 is MUCH improved in this category.
The facelifted model still looks a bit off to me compared to the G80. After a while I'm starting to get used to it. I think it's mainly the grille and lights. They're not "sharp enough" if that makes any sense.
As long as you want black interior on the Korean car, your good. I'm old school so I want any wheel that's not black, preferably chrome or polished aluminum.
Nice review. However, I'm confused by your driving evaluation regarding handling. On paper, one gets the impression that the G70 handles better, but I think you thought otherwise (skid pad, etc). Also, it's tough to determine how one slots these Caddy's. It's like at least 1/2 car up versus the G70 based upon price and size- or is it the Genesis line that's hard to slot? And from your review, it sounds like the Caddy is priced 20% higher. That's a chunk of coin. I have to admit, I'd torn, but I like the size of the G (no need for backseat room and the G's folded seats leave a much larger opening to the trunk. I also am biased as I own the G, but the C wasn't available when I bought mine. Now the updated G70 should help with the dash, but the rear seat room is, I think, unchanged.

The G70 gives you every downshift and has much better handling and steering feel. The Cadillac is not as agile (which makes sense because its bigger).

I own the G70 and to be fair I am a little biased. It's not sports car feel of connection but the steering is crisp enough to call it a sports sedan.
I hope you start doing a lot more videos like this one. It really helps me compare cars
I can't afford it so none of them. I'll stay on my eletric bicycle.

Lol. I hear ya. I want a Genesis but I’m close to retirement age so I’m going to choose to continue to save and invest.

Genesis actually unveiled a design of new facelifted G70 here in Korea. Check it out!
Better, but still not great looking.
I prefer the size of the G70. Sedans are getting very large.
Itsallgood Good Thank you for still being in the market for a sedan :)
I am comparing the Cadillac to a 540I and M340i. To be honest for the money and options, the Cadillac is a better deal, this coming from a BMW guy for the last 20 years. Every one keeps talking about the plastic in GM cars but BMW has it too unless you go up in options.
@@jonathanrobertson1350 benz has so much plastic
@@issavibez394 I ended up buying a G80 M3 and love it.
Both of these cars are awesome! They both offer good performance with excellent driving dynamics and well done interiors. The G70 is likely to be more reliable. The CT5 is bigger and about 10K more expensive. Still, both are great values.
the price is a hard one to swallow fully loaded. Its like 65+. May as well get a 340 or s4 or s5.
@@GoofieNewfie But then you need to decide if you want a fully loaded car or a base car for the same money. Base German cars are not very appealing imo.
I think this guy is one of the best car reviewers on RUclips
Just say you like the G70 better next time.🤷🏾♂️
You can tell all of that from this video? That's amazing!
Reality, statistics and numbers disagree with you.
The Genesis lineup compares now to Lexus, BMW, etc.
Caddy is in a lower league.

@@NiteEy3 G70 NEEDS that warranty in order to help sales. That's what happens when you're a cheap Korean piece of plastic, with zero brand recognition.
G70 any day
Thanks for the great review of these two cars.
Why do reviewers always comment on the radar sensor on Genisys cars but never say anything about the Mercedes one, which is also the same 🤔🤔🤔
Mike Foxworth because you literally get the same features on genesis in general than Mercedes for about a million Dollars less
@@muhammadtariq6330 you're so right.. they can't stand to see a car that costs 1/3 of the price having the same or better features.. 👍👍
I was just shopping for a G70, Lexus IS350 and the Cadillac CT5 V. Genesis and Lexus dealer dropped the ball on the car and I got the Cadillac.
Cadillac did a great job...but if it was my money, I'm going with the Genny
Cadillac has more familiarity
The g70 is so damn beautiful. I've ignored most luxury sedans because they all felt the same and never caught my attention. A g70 I rented looks so good that I never got bored looking at it. The look is way better looking to me compared to most luxury cars except Cadillac which to me is pretty even. Cadillac make some sexy sport sedans but the price point on the Genesis wins me over.
I’d take the Cadillac
I have the 2020 G70 3.3t and absolutely love it. I’m constantly getting asked about it. I love the way it drives, it’s luxurious inside, and its got crazy power. That said, this would have been a fairer comparison if you compared the Cadillac with the new G70 model; its a little disingenuous to compare a new model with an older model
If you had watched the video, the newer G70 model wasn't out yet.
with the genesis you get german levels of performance with japanese reliability. best of both worlds! #teamgenesis
All the newer hondas are not reliable tho
SEAN QU i know. i was referring to toyota’s and mazda’s
Naturally aspirated Honda’s still have great reliability but the 1.5t has that oil dilution issue which is a shame.
If I had to choose....Genesis all the way.
That laugh when accelerating in the CT5 says it all!
Anyone who owns a Cadillac will tell you how good they are now.
Give it a few years and ask the owners how they're holding up.

@@scott8919 Same could be said for BMW, Mercedes, etc...
The green on the Cadillac is really pretty
I know it's two years later, but I still like the Cadillac even though it's a tad slower (than Genesis as well as the German models) though you really have to pay to get all the goodies. It's about $65k Monroney, which is a deal compared to the 5 series it's sized similar to.
I thought the Cadillac CT4 was the competitor to the Genesis G70?
Given the size of the Cadillac Ct 5, it's more inline with the Genesis G80.
And fully loaded, the price of the caddy would be comparable to the v6 G80. I suppose it still wouldn't be a fair fight, as the G80 would absolutely kill the Caddy.
No Ct5 is still in the somewhat compact category
G80 is same size and price as ct6
@@wagrj5738 You compare on size not price.
@@mrbillcollecta How are you going to tell somebody else how they’re supposed to shop? Y’all all sound dumb. Cadillac says the CT5 is a 3-series competitor. That’s the end of it. It doesn’t matter where _you_ believe it should compete because of whatever reason.
Would love to see a review between the Ct5 vs G80 too.
The g80 will win.
@@GoofieNewfie then compare it to the black wing edition.

love the green! reminds me of my old 91 GTA, think it was called Forest Green Metallic back then
Great comparison. Your always very fair when looking at competitor vehicles.
G70 va CT4 V would be more fair due to size and price point
That one is 4 cylinder so not fair
No dumb ass. The G70 does 0-60 in a SLOWWW 4.5 seconds. The CT4 V Blackwing goes from 0-60 in 3 seconds!! Thats almost 2 seconds faster than the G70!

I love the Cadillac. The plan is to buy a used one a year old with low miles. Blacked out. Your reviews are top notch!
Kia/Hyundai would always be my choice. Absolutely amazing vehicles.
Kudos to both manufacturers for putting cars with real honest to god colors on them in your hands to film and test. (That green...)
Which one would I buy? Cadillac CPO and wait for the refreshed G70 to come out with the rumored 2.5 T for a new base engine.
Sofyan you run a great channel with awesome reviews. But regardless of the price, this is a compact vs a midsize sedan comparison, just not right.
And that Genesis G70 "hockey stick" on the front fenders is awful.
G70 all the way!
The Cadillac looks pretty damn good in a dark enough colour to hide the hideous C-pillar.
Yup! That fake side window looks awful. Kills an otherwise great looking car.
They need to fix that. It's the only real zonk in the exterior design.
Next years G70 refresh with the digital dash and blind spot cameras will kill that Cady. Heck the refreshed 2021 Stinger may be better.
To my eyes the Genesis is not as good looking as the Caddy (or my Alfa Romeo Giulia).
I Will Take The CT5 V , All Day Every Day Over Any Foreign Made Vechicle ... That's My Opinion & I'm Sticking To It
fully agree, Caddy looks awesome!!!! i've loved their design direction the past several years.. but we went with a indigo stinger... d-awd, lsd, hatchback, little larger than g70.. and couldn't beat the 37k otd price!!
That is a good price for a cheap piece of Korean plastic!

Why didn't you use the CT4? It's the same size as the G70. You're comparing apples to oranges using the CT5
CT4 is in a different class.
@@lttsr it's the same size as the G70
zonapainter Yes but they compete in different classes and that’s what Sofyan said in the video.
Can't go wrong with either. I like the refreshed G70 for 2022.
Genesis!!!!
Cheers.
This is awesome 😎 The only car missing in this comparison is the 2021 Acura TLX... Sofyan I hope you're the first to get your hands on one!!
Thank you sofyan for just giving your honest opinion. You didn't cop out and say "oh it's a GM so I automatically choose the genesis" you looked at it on it's own merit without any bias.
The Cadillac, all day. Though the G70 is not a bad looking car.
What about the warranty comparisson?

I’m a caddy fan as well
People who still think Cadillac is the pinnacle of automotive luxury piss me off
As a luxurious car, the Cadillac should’ve had some sort of sunroof. Unacceptable
Idgaf agreed!
It has a panoramic option lol
This is NOT a fair comparison... CT5 is mid size not compact and, it is much newer. Why don’t you put the 2021 G80 against the CT5?
I have a Stinger and it is not a compact--they are 4000lb plus mid size cars--the caddy is just a little bigger for a midsize--approaching a full size car.
The cadilac seems a better value for the money. Bigger, bigger screen and more space inside, full LED in the rear, awd and 10 gear transmission
I love both cars especially the face lifted g70, but I can't trust gm reliability and customer service.

5:38 the steering wheel automatically adjust down once you close the door going up to give you room when you leave on the genesis. Very impressive
Cadillac has the same ability, you just have to hit the button (which is on the driver side door)

Caddy for me as well! Wonderful review! Cant wait for the Black Wing 🤯
Wth. Why r u comparing $70k. Caddy v with $48k g70???
Look up the msrp.
Wesley Walls how is the ride quality on the run flats these days?
Kizzle better, but not the best. One of the downsides.
If one is undecided, a key factor is resale value - I’ll bet G70 will depreciate much faster than the CT5
I’ll take a 2021 Genesis G70
Cadillac will be putting Super Cruise on the CT5-V and CT4-V in 2021. Going to be a pretty big advantage over the Genesis.
