- Winter vanlife camping in Canada - Waking up buried under snow was quite the experience but didn't put a damper on my time out in the mountains - I even found time to do some projects but when it came to one in particular I didn't realize I would have to remove the entire thing.

My name is Matthew and I live in a van. I lost my job due to "cut backs" from the pandemic of 2020 and decided to seriously restructure my life. I am also a single dad who needed to find a solution that would allow me to remain in my daughter's life and plan for her future. After tons of research into #vanlife, I knew it was for me.
From March 2021 until October 2021 I spent my days building out my Chevrolet Express 2500, which came to be known as "Lucky" and as of October 18, 2021 I have been living in Lucky full time.
The build was done with almost no experience on my end and I used the one incredible tool I had at my disposal - the internet - to learn what I needed to build Lucky into a very comfortable tiny home.
I have always had a bit of a passion for being in front of the camera and really enjoy capturing the world around us. This really played into how I was feeling after almost a year of working from home when I "commuted" from the bedroom to the couch. I was starting to feel extremely unhealthy, unmotivated and despondent. I HATED that, and that's not a word I like to throw around. This new lifestyle gives me opportunities I just didn't have before and I am so excited to be able to share it all with you.
I truly believe we all have the capabilities to turn our lives around, should we choose to do so - and if I can inspire you to shoot for something better then I have done a decent job and that will keep me going.
There is more to life than the consume, consume, spend, spend lifestyle I feel we have all been conditioned to follow and I just want to do the best I can for myself first and foremost. Our time is limited and I do not want to waste another second on a lifestyle that doesn't bring me joy!

Try slicing up a pool noodle and sliding it under your loose roof panel. Pieces of pool noodle have a thousand uses. Use another length as a draft stopper by your back door. ❤

Maybe find a piece of wood to prop up the solar panel until you get a pool noodle. NAILED IT?? Was going to suggest keeping the clamps, but at $5 each: No way. Make good choices.

Good thing you got a camp spot with power with all the snow and cold. 🥶 Probably best / nice to extend your camping time there - let the back roads dry up a bit so that you aren’t having to deal with the mud. Soon enough it will be hot and wildfire season. The cool fresh air, the extra exercise shoveling and brushing away the snow, and being cozy in your bed will help you sleep good too. 😊. Maybe a good time to pick up a good book to mix up the down time from videos and games too. Keep warm and have fun! ❤😊
Glad you didn’t push it in the snow - you have Penny in a van by herself that would miss you terribly and be cold and hungry if you weren’t able to get back to her for a day or two until you got found and towed out. 😂

HOT maple syrup - f you're lucky, it will set up/caramelize.
We used to do first run sugar on snow every spring, accompanied by fresh made plain donuts and half-sour pickles 😋

Hi Darcy, if the pancake was still fairly warm you could put a couple of thin slivers of butter on the pancake and the heat should melt the butter!🤔

LOL all that fresh clean snow- I would clean everything I could with that. Of course then you run the risk of critters large and small not domesticated to try to get into your home.

Sheron, I remember once staying in a hotel in the Austrian mountains where the dining room had a huge panoramic window which looked out over the surrounding snowy mountains and down to the valley below. Breakfast was amazing, lovely hearty food with a view to die for and all while sitting in a warm and cozy dining room!😊

4:09 mark: You don't need a microwave for that. Use a sharp knife to cut off *very* thin slices of butter from the end of the stick, and lay a few of them on each pancake. They melt quickly. 👍

The best breakfast I ever made was a Big Sur. I got up before the whole family, I was about 10 years old. I made bacon and eggs and ate it all. It was like ambrosia! We could start camp fires under those big trees, it was like being in a church, so quiet.
So... I have always said that everything happens for a reason. That fuel door breaking and not being replaceable is forcing you to replace it. When you do, you should install it in the opposite direction, so you won't have to worry about it happening again.

From the beginning pancake taps with the spatula to the coordinated red and black shovel which matches with the panels and recovery boards...such attention to detail. I know what you mean when your brain won't settle and your body needs rest. Ugh. I'm watching this at stupid o'clock. But you're worth it. Ana wet some thin wash cloths and put them in the fridge then when you feel a hot flash coming on take one out and put it around your neck, it'll help cool you down. Also you can hang a wet cloth over the front of a fan and you get lovely cold air.😊
When you think you're finally finished with all the female "chapters", along comes hot flashes and mood swings which are NOT a good combination! 😂 Mego progesterone is a forgotten part of our female make up that is a great help with this hopefully last chapter of changes🤦🤞 Ask your doc about it. Was a life saver for me....and helped drop a few pounds which is always a plus for me 🤗 I enjoy FOOOOOD 😂

Ana, breathing meditation is good for that. It can take a bit of time and patience to calm your mind down but once you get there you'll never look back. Great to do before bedtime too.😊

🥞❤ If you use OIL in the pan, the pancakes will get crispy like bacon 🥓!!!!! 👍 Just use a Low Heat. And if you like once both sides are crispy you can turn up the heat and make them as crispy and crunchy as you like!!!! My Daddy's secret😅
My auntie used to make pancakes crispy and she would use the bacon grease, it was yummy!😋

87 degrees Fahrenheit here in my Van in Florida after 8:00 pm ,that snow looks so refreshing! Enjoy ! Tomorrow in the 90’s YIKES ! 🫠😓😅
If you get some cloths or tea towels and wet them then put them in the fridge or a cooler, then when you're feeling really hot take one out of the fridge and put it either, over your head or around your neck or both, it'll cool you down. Also if you have a fan you can put a wet cloth over the front of the fan and it'll blow cold air.😊 Make sure the cloths or tea towels are thin.

Yes we have loons. We even have a 1 dollar coin with a loon on it. We call them loonies. Loons are part of what Canada is.

The snow is really beautiful. I'm just not a winter person. As for the melatonin, they now say it's better to take it several hours before bedtime. To give it time to work and so it won't cause any grogginess the next day. Some people are more sensitive to it.

If you turn your 2 recover tracks around the other way then the shovel will fit better with the more round edges so it sticks out less.

You might try some calcium/magnesium with D. Those are important nutrients. And they definitely help with sleep problems. The melatonin is a short term thing. If your watching TV and viewing your phone at night the blue light stop melatonin from being released. It starts to be released when the sun goes down. Hence why we get tired when its dark. If your putting light into your eyes after its dark then your suppressing it. Blue light glasses can help. But the cal/mag will be a better solution to your sleep problems. As well as it supports other metabolic systems. Like healing your back.
And here I am having just taken a melatonin, and what am I doing watching RUclips videos on my cell phone Unknowingly. Canceling out the melatonin's effects funny, what you can learn on the internet.😅

You could do laundry at the McLean Creek Store. Paddys Flat is my favorite campground (also has group camping - for future reference) but Beaver Flats is nice too. I absolutely love that area of Kananaskis but think I'll wait for a little less snow to start camping. 😁 Sure is pretty though, especially those drone shots.
