My name is Matthew and I live in a van. I lost my job due to "cut backs" from the pandemic of 2020 and decided to seriously restructure my life. I am also a single dad who needed to find a solution that would allow me to remain in my daughter's life and plan for her future. After tons of research into #vanlife, I knew it was for me.
From March 2021 until October 2021 I spent my days building out my Chevrolet Express 2500, which came to be known as "Lucky" and as of October 18, 2021 I have been living in Lucky full time.
The build was done with almost no experience on my end and I used the one incredible tool I had at my disposal - the internet - to learn what I needed to build Lucky into a very comfortable tiny home.
I have always had a bit of a passion for being in front of the camera and really enjoy capturing the world around us. This really played into how I was feeling after almost a year of working from home when I "commuted" from the bedroom to the couch. I was starting to feel extremely unhealthy, unmotivated and despondent. I HATED that, and that's not a word I like to throw around. This new lifestyle gives me opportunities I just didn't have before and I am so excited to be able to share it all with you.
I truly believe we all have the capabilities to turn our lives around, should we choose to do so - and if I can inspire you to shoot for something better then I have done a decent job and that will keep me going.
There is more to life than the consume, consume, spend, spend lifestyle I feel we have all been conditioned to follow and I just want to do the best I can for myself first and foremost. Our time is limited and I do not want to waste another second on a lifestyle that doesn't bring me joy!

We got a 2 person pop up tent in 1980. Husband sprayed it with scotch guard and seam seal. We camped east-west across the USA twice. And north-south about a dozen times. Never a leak. And we camped in some real wrath of god storms on the prairie.
Ugh...just spent the last 6 hours at the emergency with my neighbor. I so needed this video!

Use a woman’s hair claw clip to keep your curtains over to the passenger side. That’s what I do works perfect !

8:22 mark: I find myself having way more laundry to do in the winter because I require more layers of clothing. Even though I wear a new dress every day in the summer and have to dirty up towels to regularly wipe off sweat, it still creates way less laundry in the long run for me (here in Indiana). 🤦♀🤷♀

I love my Starlink. I have a jackery battery plugged into solar on top my camper and it powers my Starlink and security cameras so I can check on things while I’m away. Works everywhere even when there is no cellphone signal

OMG, I would have taken the awning back !!! We are going bug you next spring to replace it BEFORE camping season.
I love the idea of swap tables and I have a box that I am compiling of things I no longer need. I can't wait for my first van meet up!!

After seeing that im sticking with my tarp and shock corded tent poles....6 bucks for a tarp and some old tent poles.
The awning poles, you can buy rubber expandable plugs, maybe use all thread, keep old cap, drill a hole in it. And slide it back over the bottom side.
Cats get fur balls from bathing themselves. That causes them to up chuck. That's what my vet told me. My Fred does it every so often too.
If you brush your cat regularly they don’t get fur balls,or my cats haven’t.
I do brush him, he loves being brushed. Is why he only does every so often.
That thump is the vacuum on your ac vent for fresh air/heat door closing.
Its a common occurrence .

I give my cat's hairball treats everyday. It helps with your Penny situation you went through. No polite word for the "situation." But they always pick a great place to do it. Like your bed or your shoe! 🙀
I'm pretty sure you have Pet Valu in calgary. The treats are called Head to Tail daily cat formula in a yellow and green bag. The good thing about it is if Penny doesn't like them, you can return them. Pet Valu is very good about returns.😻

Try using that black reinforced house roofing tar for roof holes. Takes a week or so for complete dried hard, but that stuff is great on metal roof to seal it. Used it on a trailer roof, then later used cool white silicon paint over it.

If the new hotspot has a removeable battery, then (assuming you haven't) it's worth removing the battery and seeing if it will run straight from the USB power. Not all devices will run without the battery, but for those that can it can be useful!

Good Evening Matthew and Penny!!! I live in Pennsylvania near Pittsburgh. We have had highs up to 99° F and haven't had rain in a month!!! I much rather fall and winter. I don't mind sweating from working hard but I DON"T like sweating just standing still or walking outside! YUCK!!! I hope you Penny, Lucky and the family enjoy your trip to Montana!! Hello, my name is Andrea and I'm an overthinker...the awning...the Vevor I have is trying to kill me. Every time I deploy it, I get brained AT LEAST ONCE trying to attach the arms to the awning. Ugh. That made me laugh out loud. The Stampede parade is about 5km in length and takes almost 2 hours to pass any point on the route. it is about the same length as 25 Calgary Towers laid end to end. You gotta get down there about 5 hours early at best.1/2 an hour? that was to good. I used to live downtown and suffered through it a few times.....moved.

My 8x8 canopy has the rail system that I can slide bolts in and adjust for the mounting bracket, I used my ladder rack mounts to mount my canopy to, it also allows me to slide my canopy about 2 feet forward or backwards, mine has been good so far, I also use a couple of guide ropes as tie-down so the canopy stays in place, if I can't drive the guide rope stakes in the ground I'll use weights or some sort of tie down to secure it. Keep those videos coming. I enjoy your channel.

Yes i know, I'm 2 days behind, BUT... Princess Auto has the best return policy around. If you have your receipt and stand your ground they will simply give you your money back, even if you have used the product like that awning shows.....but the bent pole. Simply take it back and get a proper new unit. It is what it is....cheap as most of all their products are. You risk this but you buy the guarantee.....take it back.

I'm like you. Oh my this heat in Arizona is brutal. Once you walk out side your whole outfit and hair is wet from sweating. Lucky the temperature is so nice. I miss denver co but I am here to face my demons. I always run away from my past. Not this time. Our mifi did the same thing since we left ours plugged in all the time at our camp when were not there and the air was not off but set higher. We needed it for an app to tell us if the electrify went off. We now just keep an extra battery on hand. I bet it was because it was warm in your van on these hot days. Maybe if you put a small battery operated fan on it on days you leave the van and it is hot.

Hey Matthew I had the same problem with my old wifi hotspot with the battery swelling. Updated to a newer one and if it’s plugged in for more than a day it only charges to 65%. Think they are try to prevent it. Hopefully your charge stays lower on your new one.

Yes you should always unplug devices with a battery when not using,
and it doesn't need a charge.
