The rez has fallen on some challenging times of crime, drugs, and unemployment but also has hope and some fantastic people. Join me and the locals as we travel into a surreal corner of America that most of us have no understanding of.

Thanks, Peter!! As a fellow native who used to drink every day.. This video was a stark reminder of how tough that life was.. drinking everyday to "cure" the hangover was...well from what I could remember, not a way to live. The "spirits" get a hold of the native blood and it's hard to shake that beast. It took seeing my doppelganger in detox to snap out of it... it's never too late to stop drinking or drug use. The best time is now (unless you're on a bender with booze/benzos - seek medical attention). I get that it's hard to stop drinking on the rez when there's nothing to do.. I get that, but it can be done. Big props to all the native relatives (I'm not their tribe but am Navajo and respect all tribes)..
Anyhow, great video and beautiful land that they are on. Shout out to Randy!!

Drugs, alcohol, poverty and oppression have definitely taken a toll on my people. But there is also so much beauty that this video did not cover. The Rainbow Treatment Center has an amazing restaurant called Cafe Gozhóó, there is a people's farm called N'Dee Bikiye, so many beautiful Apache children, beautiful lakes and streams. Life on the reservation is definitely an anamoly that provides you with a unique understanding of what struggling truly is, as well as the acceptance of simplicity. ♡

It was interesting when Peter said to his Mom that he felt something very powerful and calming here and then she says it is where "she prays for everyone right here" three times a day. I have noticed this type of thing from others in other places. Very interesting that he said that about the whole place but it was when he was standing where she prayed daily. I meditate in one room of my home and I sage it often. When people come to my house and get to that room they say "why is this room so comforting?" I never tell them that I think it is from what I do here. I just smile to myself. My Grandson says that room is "Magical" and he is 4 and has no idea what I have done in that room and has never been here when others say it is comforting. I think Peter felt her blessings that she does for others. I loved that.

We had to live in Teacher housing so my place was at 6 mile school. What a shame to see an update, When I was there the Apache Flame was going strong and there was definitely a problem with Alcohol, but there were almost no drugs at the time. There were two trading posts where we bought all our groceries or we went up the hill to Pinetop. I had very good friends among the Apache and one who went hunting for Javelina, Turkey, Deer, and Elk. I wanted to cry to see how rundown some of the neighborhoods have become and remember well that the Apache were a very proud people and life on the Apache Reservation was much better than other Reservations I visited like the Navajo and Hopi.

It's living history, these interviews he does --no special effects, no scripts, just the instrinsic magic of the human spirit. He approaches everyone with respect, and a sense of humor, and it goes a long way.
If you've watched three hours of this, then you've seen parts of America that even other Americans haven't seen, and probably never will. Most foreigners don't realize how huge this country really is! The citizens here don't even know all the unique pockets of culture that exist here.
Even if I went to the reservations, they wouldn't open their doors to me like this. Unless you already know someone there who could vouch for you, no one will talk to you. Through this show, Peter has garnered a good reputation, a well-earned one I might say. So, _they_ probably _call him_ and invite him over. He has earned the love and trust of the people.
Currently, I am staying in the heart of Los Angeles for a few days to attend a week-long event. I'm driving to a gym, and then suddenly all the signage is in Korean! I have lived in CA for decades, but have _never_ been to LA's Korea Town before! A store window had nothing but traditional Korean clothing displayed (hanbok, etc.). It's like I just dropped into another world this morning. haha This is an example of how one just stumbles upon unique pockets of culture in America. 😅

Peter and wife, I’ve been feeling really down about the people in the place I live. People used to be so delightful here. The way people behave has changed so much in the last four years. People are pushy and have lost their openness and lightness. Men call me profanities aggressively on the road. I used to love where I live so much. It feels so hopeless to me. America feels like we’re on such a bad trajectory. I’m mourning the loss of my dreams for how I thought we were going to evolve together. Your videos help me to feel that the US is a cool place. I’ve been thinking about this: I think society is thirsty for your kind of content and deeply NEEDS the content you’re making. You really came in and are doing something useful and very much needed. Anglo Western/Christian Europeans Colonization of,
      - North America & South America,
      - Siberia & Far-East Asia,
      - Australia & New Zealand in Asia-Pacific.
      Europe for Native Europeans,
      - Africa for Native Africans,
      - America for Native Americans,
      - Asia-Pacific for Native Asians-Pacific islanders. 🤷
The two most sacred Christian doctrines are,
      -Thou shalt not kill.
      - Thou shalt not steal. 🤷
The fact that there are over 40 nations/territories in Europe for the Christian Europeans to Colonize.
      Why Native-American land?
      Why Asia-Pacific land? 🤷

Wht, female, baby boomer here. My soul is overwhelmed by this RUclips journey. It's like Jesus stepped into the conversations, humor, acceptance, compassion, truth, sorrow, brotherhood (including Andrena), Randy's expert guide experience, and even the treats of alcohol. I bring this up as I have a family of full blown alcoholics. I am also a recovering alcoholic. We all want to feel accepted, loved appreciated regardless, and Peter, you blew away with your inclusion of Randy, Randy's friends, bystanders, etc. For me, that huge, beautiful smile of Randy, being part of your video and enjoying a "treat" was priceless. Peter, you know how to bring Beauty forward from just about anyone. Talented, genuine, kind. Thank you, Hawk, Randy, Andrena, and all who gave me Light to see. ❤

I agree. I was born in Atikokan, Ontario and am part Ojibway on my mom's side, but sadly grew up with my father in Saskatchewan and never got to know my moms side at all, as she passed in my early 20s. They're from the Sioux Lookout area. But I've always felt split in my soul, and enjoy seeing the content about indigenous groups of all tribes and nations.

You knocked it out the park yet again. Hawk, Randy and Mom thanks for the invite into your life. It can be emotionally difficult revealing the raw side. But as Peter states many times the vulnerable seek comfort in any means possible, to get by daily. But my word what a breath-taking backdrop. Keep it up peter.

Re-watching----thank you so much for posting this segment, it is a very significant testimonial. I hope that people are watching, especially some that are in a position to help. I've lived a great deal of my life in the desert, and I've worked with some very wonderful, spiritual and inspirational native Americans. Fortunately, there are success stories as well, educated tribe members and prominent in their cities and communities. I know several. There are too many that struggle. Hopefully, we can all work together to rise to the challenges that face these communities and work hard to lift one another up.
