In the event anyone is curious, the bar above the locomotive seen at time stop 4:57 is for clearing icicles hanging inside the tunnels that separate the north Lake Tahoe area (Truckee, CA) from the Sacramento Valley to the west. Additionally, the bars/grid in front of the windshields are to prevent snow, branches or ice from damaging the glass. The Union Pacific railroad has a subset of their locomotive fleet specifically modified to traverse "Donner Pass" between Reno, NV and Roseville CA, with Truckee CA in between ... with these 2 modifications just a few of the several that allow them to surmount the pass and its winter hazards.

A few years back in the region that Foresty comes from we had 15' snow banks and the power company had to dig out the wires in some areas. Well I call them the good ol' days as this year every good snow storm came with above freezing temps in a few days. The tree buds are flushing now, just 1.5 months too early. May be tough this year.
An honor in some ways, to the Donner party folks, those pioneers who were on their way hoping to make a better life in California. For those who survived and those who didn’t. Brave folks who traveled NEVER KNOWING what lay ahead as opposed to our luxury in this day and age of knowing there is always someone close by to help us in an emergency and having fairly accurate weather forecasts. I have been up in the Truckee area in the middle of winter before. I drove truck for 30 years. That area gets some crazy weather with no notice at times.
Your dog is awesome. Reminds me of my dog Willie, a Jack Russell terrier. Me and him took my truck with its home built camper on the back from Cape Cod, MA to Squaw Valley in November of 1995 to ski the winter. He was an awesome companion and was the bestest buddy in the world. I miss him so much.
I didn't get one good snow storm to camp in this winter and I'm so bummed. Hunkering down by a warm fire during a blizzard with just my fury friend is when I find the most peace in life. It really helps me think through all the things going on in life and get my priorities back in line. For me, a few days of isolation is needed every few months just to work through all the shit in my head. It's like doing a hard reset. All of the distractions of life are gone which gives me much more clarity to prioritize what's actually important to me. I didn't realize how much a little isolation could help me until the pandemic hit and I decided to do some camping by myself rather than be locked down in my apartment building. I ended up staying 22 days (I did have to move spots after 2 weeks per the rules) in a small dome tent at a primitive camping area in a National forest with just my dog and it was life changing. I was the only one camping there the entire time and it was the most peaceful 3 weeks of my life. Besides a forest service truck driving through once a day I was completely alone. You really learn a lot about yourself that way. Typing this out really has me thinking about planning a little trip before it gets too hot out. I'd rather camp through an ice storm than a heat wave. I must have some nordic dna or something because I'm the guy in shorts and sandals all winter that never gets cold. I finished part of my basement just so I could sleeo down there because it stays about 10 degrees cooler than the rest of the house all year long. Anyways, it's nice to see at least someone's out there enjoying all that snow. I enjoy your videos tremendously. Thanks for the entertainment.
You guys would make a GREAT couple. I know a “I have feelings for this girl” face when I see one Forest 😂 don’t let a golden opportunity pass you by brother!!!! This is one of those one in a lifetime opportunities!!!

Good company, eating chili and playing cards. I enjoy your narratives, and explanations and descriptions. You got it all. You are unique. Great job!
Just another day in Truckee. The news always blows these things up, but for us, here in town, it's just another day. Wake up early, shovel out, go ski, come home, shovel again. Rinse, repeat.
I'm very glad you are both safe and experienced in this kind of weather. I forgot that you were in that area when I saw it on the news. I'm glad you've got that wood stove 😂
There is nothing more cozy than staying comfortable and warm in the camper during a snow storm. I agree with you. The winter camping is best. As long as you have al of the things needed. Nice van you have there. Great video.
Visited the Donner pass area years back. Was standing next a tree that was said to have a marker of how much snow they had received all those years ago. I looked 10-15 feet up and couldn’t find it. Until I looked up literally 35 to 40 feet. Way way up. Might have been even higher. Astonishing and astounding. The amount of snow the Sierras get is mind blowing.
It looks like whatever it was that was making Foresty's subscriber count be constipated a few months ago, has been unplugged and the flood gates have finally been opened up - as they are supposed to be! And of course, having 400K plus views on this video helps, too! Congratulations, Foresty, on your well deserved and steady increase in subscribers, and on this highly successful video!! 🎉🎊🎉🎊🎉
@snowwhiteseventrolls Well, I am not sure exactly what it was. But I am just glad to see the subscibers going up and up as they should be. Especially when Foresty's videos consistently get well over 100,000 views per video, and now over 400,000 views on this one - it makes logical sense that a certain percentage of the viewers in each video will choose to subscribe, and the number of subscribers should be rising when a video gets a high number of views!! Yeah buddy, cool video. Mother Nature is a beautiful thing. It gets deep, thick and hairy and helps reduce the roadways with less smart people dropping off like frozen flies. No worries, there are always more in the future. We been through that pass more than a few times. Camping out in the Sierras is like paradise. You chili must have been quite tasty. Dig your stove. Work on your knife skills, hold the knife firmly, like it is an extension of your arm. You index finger should be right up around the end of the handle. Sharpen that knife so it can shave paper, or geta real Japanese knife and get cooking. Lots of recipes on our channel Safe travels. Chefs
Foresty! it's great to see you have a traveling buddy. Keep doing what you're doing! You and your channel are the real deal! Thanks again for sharing!!
Well, half way trough the video I havent seen any evidence of winds, so this is just a heavy calm snowfall, Nothing we truckdrivers in Sweden, Norway and Finland would consider stop driving for, exept when the snow starting coming up to a feet deep on the roads. In windy conditons its a different story, but then we talking about real windy, like a real storm or blizzard, not this relative calm snowfall with no wind at all to talk about. The secret for both truckdriver and cars? Real winter tires made for cold winter conditon like Hakapelitta, not those fecking Mud and Snow tires you americans use, that is even worse in cold weather than a Goodyear summer tire.

Both of you shoveling snow and Rocko goes flying by. Talk about a photo bomb. 😂
Saskatchewan got about the same amount of snow today. We are still digging out. Glad your safe and can get to lower elevation to warm up.
You guys would make a GREAT couple. I know a “I have feelings for this girl” face when I see one Forest 😂 don’t let a golden opportunity pass you by brother!!!! This is one of those one in a lifetime opportunities!!!
No, he friendzoned as hell!
❤ we love you guys Simon !
What a storm ayyy....???
(Did I sound Canadian? See....I said ayyy? 🇨🇦 🍁 😂.....)
One of my favorite videos. All that awesome snow! Trains, beautiful pine trees and the historical donner pass! Cars slipping and sliding! Dogs playing. Great sounds. Good company, eating chili and playing cards. I enjoy your narratives, and explanations and descriptions. You got it all. You are unique. Great job!
Good video. Love getting snowed in, the feeling of being self-sufficient and comfortable is awesome. 👍
Love all episodes with Loui.
Well, love them all regardless, now that I think of it.
As an Alaskan who gets 6 months of snow, I find it interesting to see how people in the lower 48 deal with blizzards.
Usually only at Dairy Queen
As well as you do!
Buffalo N.Y.
Just another day in Truckee. The news always blows these things up, but for us, here in town, it's just another day. Wake up early, shovel out, go ski, come home, shovel again. Rinse, repeat.
Im so glad the two of you have each other. you all are so cute together.
Just what kind of relationship do these two have?
My favorite video of yours, I know I have watched it, at least thirty times. So sweet, love all of your camera work ❤
I'm very glad you are both safe and experienced in this kind of weather. I forgot that you were in that area when I saw it on the news. I'm glad you've got that wood stove 😂
I live not far from there. The snow was awesome!! I got 2 extra days off.
I like the fact that you sought a safe place "Before" the Blizzard hit! Wisdom!

SMASHING FORESTY FOREST BABY YEAH 🍻
It looks like whatever it was that was making Foresty's subscriber count be constipated a few months ago, has been unplugged and the flood gates have finally been opened up - as they are supposed to be!
And of course, having 400K plus views on this video helps, too!
Congratulations, Foresty, on your well deserved and steady increase in subscribers, and on this highly successful video!! 🎉🎊🎉🎊🎉
this channel is pooping out subs 🥖🥖
@snowwhiteseventrolls
Well, I am not sure exactly what it was.
Kudos to Foresty for his consistently great job in producing these exemplary videos!!
This is my favorite episode. It looked so much fun just camping out there next to your friend, not being far from society just seeing and feeling the snow come down. I need more videos like this
I live here, it was weird seeing the Safeway I frequent being in a YT video. It’s been a cozy couple days off work while it’s mental outside
I'm from truckee california and I remember when I was little, I used to love the snow and especially when they canceled school, I was so excited! I live in reno nv now! I do miss truckee so much!
You have a wonderful way of photographing snow and snowy environments, I do like to watch it snow but I hate to be out in the snow and having deal with snow! Glad you all doing well and safe! I do love your wood stove and the homie environment it creates!
Aww love your little dog 😅😅😅
it’s June 2024. Just think, the snow in this area starts again in about 12 weeks.. skiing, snowmobiling, snowboarding , fun
You forgot to add Cumin to your chilli, trust me, after adding Cumin you’ll never look back.
Am originally from CA. My folks retired to Carson City. Have been through Truckee and Donner Pass many times (in summer). Thanks for bringing back memories.
I like the element she brings to the channel. This episode was just a little different than what it would've been without her. Good dynamic.
i know some of the comments are so weird. they rather see Foresty out there alone feeling just a bit too alone. he looks a lot happier. even loners like company if its the right person.
Would you have a link from where you got your woodstove. Mind in shape differently. I would like to see to get one like yours.
The meal looked good!, but man, the gas it must have produced, and in a van!
that's what i was thinking. broccoli n a pot of beans. what could go wrong?
Not just the road was getting plowed.😮
NO WAY WAS THAT FINE ASS GIRL DOING THAT SKINNY LITTLE GEEK
A little bit of creamy peanut butter adds a great bit of flavor to chili. I love going outside during weather events like this, it adds perspective.
Don’t know that chili and broccoli is the best meal if you are in a small van together.
Where do you go to the bathroom?
@@Bobbing-Red If i had a nickel for every toilet comment,
I'd be getting the fancy toilet paper 🧻🧻
The truckers had to stop on the summit for 3 days just west of this town Trukee. Winds were recorded at 190 mph

Hey, please do not denigrate Scandanavia. Some of my ancestors came from there.
And they do many, many things in a superior manner to the way things are done in the USA.
@@Bobbing-RedNeancyerthal?
where do you poopety poop? a bucket?
I know the answer to that question, but unfortunately, I have been sworn to secrecy. 🤫🤐🥸
You can find it out in the spring.
This is why you can't shouldn't have a relationship with your first cousin.
