I agree he has done really well! Loving it. Has everything you can think of! Wish I’d done this kind of thing some years back but glad ppl are doing this it’s a great way to live for single ppl esp.
I recently figured out why I love these specific types of video so much - it's because these individuals represent and embody the amazing American Spirit.
If you end up going through compressors on your fridge, I found in my semi that if I put a layer of rubber like anti fatigue mat or livestock mat under it it cushions it from vibrations and virtually eliminates failure.
I did the same thing brother. US Army vet here as well. I converted an old wheelchair van into my mobile home while I also went to college for 4 years. It was by far the best time of my life. I enjoyed the freedom that I worked so hard to defend. I decked the roof out with solar panels. I paid no rent, no water bills, no electric bills. I got a scholarship through the University that I worked at and literally only paid for my own books. Could have used my GI bill but chose not too. I received my Bachelors Degree and if I ever go for a Masters then I will use my GI Bill. Brother you're in for the ride of your life. Now I live the fancy life in a flat 30 stories up in a High Rise building in Vietnam. I teach English here. But, I would give this up for the opportunity to go back to the Van Life again. You are about to experience freedom in a way you never had before. One word of caution. At night lock it up tight. Park in industrial areas. If you get a knock from the police, stay quite and completely still. Nothing says you have to answer them. Wait them out. They are far too busy to wait you out. I'm also a former police officer so my advice is sound. If you answer them, they very well could give a ticket as a minimum and or a huge fine if the vehicle is not registered as a motorhome conversion. In some states they might even tow your vehicle. So remember, You have a right to remain silent. Make sure no one can see any lights on from the outside. In 4 years I only had a police knock 2 times. Waited 10 to 15 minutes and once the coast was clear left and parked a few blocks farther down. Remember, you are free now. Stealth camping is necessary to achieve your college goal. It will do you no good if they tow your house. Your military skills are all you will need to live an amazing life of pure freedom. When I get back to the US in the future, I'm going back to the Van Life. Might even buy some property somewhere. Cheers.
I suggested to online van people to buy a few acres together so they dont have to worry about where to park and have enough room for everyone's vans. Plus later, they could build a building that could house toilets and showers. Maybe even a kitchen and Fellowship hall
Jeez, This guy knocked it out of the park with this build. Well planned and amazing follow through and the entire thing for $25,000. With his attention to detail he will be an outstanding helicopter pilot. Well done sir!!!!
As a veteran myself, I know the feeling of getting out of an institution and having the freedom to go wherever and do whatever you want. Great build sir and thank you for your service.
"you realize i'm gonna be living in a parking lot" is, I think, one of the most profoundly accurate things I've heard a van-lifer say. People have this notion that it's going to be scenic nature shots and views of some valley... when in reality it's a lot more of home depot and walmart parking lots. The no-windows approach is really the way to go for year round living. very smart approach and very well thought out build.
bless your heart. I don't see how you got hater vibes from anything I wrote, but maybe you should re-read that. I think the guy who built this is a genius and was complementing the build. not only that, I think he's being very accurate and forthright in stating that full time van life isn't all scenic views. I'm glad your friend does have great views though. if you watch more of Jared's videos you will see he also says that his time as a van lifer had plenty of urban living and not just what gets usually posted on the 'gram. I'm always in amazement at what these guys and girls build. that's why I watch all these tours.
John is living in the year 5000! This van build is not simply a DIY'er van build. This is the work of genius! You can tell that John is well versed in all the trades. The details! Rhombus drawers are not for the casual carpenter either! Impressive! Hope all is well with van life for John! Hope he got his additional solar panels too!
Thanks! I did end up getting the additional panels and I'm approximately halfway through getting all my helicopter licenses. The rhombus drawer is even more impressive when you realize I started with no experience any of the trades and learned it all as I went from RUclips videos.

I drove these vans for years. P1000s and p1200s. These vans SUCK! The engines are always breaking down. Brakes go out ALL THE TIME. Engine have no power. Barely can make it up hills. Walls are thinner than an old metal Coke sign. Tires cost a fortune compared to a normal ban/16' truck. Definitely do your research and ask any FedEx/UPS guy what they think of their trucks..
@@nonterrestriaI they can be reliable, they can definitely make it up hills just not fast. And the brakes probably just burnt out on them because they’re always riding them down hills

I'm guessing he could bring his time table down a significant amount, though. The thing with Vanlife is it kinda has to fit you. It'd be difficult for others to deal with his limitations. (No windows. High emphasis on entertainment. 3 doors to get inside living space.) In my opinion it's perfect, especially not being as tall as him lol.
I loved the practicality, the planning, the simplicity, the honesty. He should be proud. It’s comfortable and beautiful. The lighting when the door opened. The garage. Full sink, shower, height of the space. Well done.

I’m shocked at how tastefully done his build ended up. And even more surprised that he was able to purchase reasonably priced amenities so easily with the option to readily replace any of it if/and or when it becomes necessary with relative ease. Also surprised at just how much room was available to utilize in one of those units. And insulated at that. Thanks for sharing such an interesting build. Inspiring.

Always wondered why ppl didn’t put a dish drying/storage rack over the sink, and finally someone did! Ditto with raising the fridge up and getting a bigger fridge! The same with microwave and hood fan combo! If cooking with out a fan can make an average size house smell, imagine a tiny home! This is the first "tiny home" that I actually see being a viable home. They've always sounded nice and all, but this sir, this is practical. And that garage blew my mind. Truly insane build!
Most tiny home tours: "So I decided not to put this thing in and that thing in so I could have more open space" your house is 100 ft², you don't have the luxury of open space If you want it open space don't live in a tiny house! 😂

Imagine building a regular sized house with this level of efficiency. It would feel like a mansion!
Jimmy Tambo: I spent 2+ years watching and studying tiny house, motor home and stealth home videos before building a 445SF MIL. You can get the best ideas for storage, kit layout and efficient floor plans watching these videos and studying their floor plans.
Shelves on walls, Standing Bookcases in corners... Maximize your storage inside and still look neat and tidy.
I guess I need to cut back on my 60 or so Harley-Davidson t-shirts and dozen or so sports jerseys, lol
This. I watch all these tiny home/rv/bus vids and apply their crafty solutions to my regular 1000sq ft detached home. Like, my house doesn't fit the "tiny" definition. But it's not a huge house either. If you are good with space management, you can make a small home super optimized for your personal lifestyle.

If you end up going through compressors on your fridge, I found in my semi that if I put a layer of rubber like anti fatigue mat or livestock mat under it it cushions it from vibrations and virtually eliminates failure.
Thanks for the tip.
I fully support recycling decommissioned step vans.
This man should turn this into a business.
Cheers.
Amen.smen. amen. Yay van life. Love these step vans.
You are a free man.
Merry Christmas.
I suggested to online van people to buy a few acres together so they dont have to worry about where to park and have enough room for everyone's vans. Plus later, they could build a building that could house toilets and showers. Maybe even a kitchen and Fellowship hall
