My name is Matthew and I live in a van. I lost my job due to "cut backs" from the pandemic of 2020 and decided to seriously restructure my life. I am also a single dad who needed to find a solution that would allow me to remain in my daughter's life and plan for her future. After tons of research into #vanlife, I knew it was for me.
From March 2021 until October 2021 I spent my days building out my Chevrolet Express 2500, which came to be known as "Lucky" and as of October 18, 2021 I have been living in Lucky full time.
The build was done with almost no experience on my end and I used the one incredible tool I had at my disposal - the internet - to learn what I needed to build Lucky into a very comfortable tiny home.
I have always had a bit of a passion for being in front of the camera and really enjoy capturing the world around us. This really played into how I was feeling after almost a year of working from home when I "commuted" from the bedroom to the couch. I was starting to feel extremely unhealthy, unmotivated and despondent. I HATED that, and that's not a word I like to throw around. This new lifestyle gives me opportunities I just didn't have before and I am so excited to be able to share it all with you.
I truly believe we all have the capabilities to turn our lives around, should we choose to do so - and if I can inspire you to shoot for something better then I have done a decent job and that will keep me going.
There is more to life than the consume, consume, spend, spend lifestyle I feel we have all been conditioned to follow and I just want to do the best I can for myself first and foremost. Our time is limited and I do not want to waste another second on a lifestyle that doesn't bring me joy!

We love your new build. My husband and I have a 99 Chevy Express 3500 high top. It used to be a county mobile library. It only had 62,000 miles on it. We have our bed like yours because hubby is 6' tall. We love it! Also, we have our TV and game system. Got to have our Switch! 😂 We don't live in ours, just camping. Except when hubby has the TV in the cabin watching MMA fights. I go to the van to watch TV.

75°F is hot as balls...😃😅😂 That's sweater weather here in Oklahoma!!! That being said, Canada is awesome and offers so many fun things to do and see!! 💛
Check for corrosion on starting battery cables. That increases electrical resistance, which also creates heat, and can also not allow enough power to starter from the battery.
Check out memory foam bath mats for your floor. They're probably about the right size, being bath mats means they have a non-slip backing, they're washable and best of all super soft and cushiony :) My daughter has one as a floor mat by her bed and it's very gentle on her often achy body.
I am always amazed at how chilled out Penny is.. not just living in the van but when you're driving or when you're out camping and even when you turn the vacuum on right in front of her. Most cats I've known are not nearly so tolerant and tend to turn to 'air raid siren' mode when you bring them near a car. She's truly a special creature and it's lovely to watch and see the bond you share.
Get a bug screen for your side doors. I just stretch to it across and use magnets to hold it up. Best thing to allow the cooling breeze in and keep their bugbutts out!

For your egg carrier cut it in half so you have six and six it’ll be easier to store if you have a full dozen in your refrigerator and store anywhere actually I had to do that with mine

I have that same ecoflow. I love it. My fridge plugs into that and the ecoflow plugs into the 4runner and charges when i drive. Works out great.

Those bugs are sweet little May Flyes. They have a very short adult life and will not harm you at all. Very Very sweet.

Matthew would it ever be reasonable to put the EcoFlow under the bed with the other batteries??
Of course, you would need to make an opening for easy access for charging your smaller items as you mentioned towards the beginning of the vlog. Then the EcoFlow would be out of your way and you could leave it hooked up all the time.

It's called asperated, to asperate. That is, to accidentally breathe-in/inhale a substance (i.e. WATER 😮😂) into your lungs.

Try Mudd Rugs they come in different sizes and colors, they are fantastic at catching dirt and animal hair and they are machine washable, a real game changer for my van life

I bet the issue with starting Lucky is the starter it’s called Heat Soak. You need to swap it out with a mini starter, that can take the heat. Also at the same time up the gauge for the cables.

@@007nadineL Summer hot weather is between 95 and 100(35 to 37) with feels like temps of 110 to 115 (43 to 46). Sometimes the actual temperature can be 110 (43) with feels like temps of 117 because of the humidity. 80 (26) is December in Houston. No joke. My birthday is in early December and it’s been between 80 to 86 (26 to30) forever. It’s quite saddening and maddening. That’s why Canada looks so amazing.
I'm in Houston too, but from CO. I pretty much wear short sleeves & capris year round. When we first got here in a November, I was sweating & ran to the store, people were wearing heavy coats & gloves. 75 degrees is a great temp.

Ewww bugs. Friendly or not, I do not like them everywhere in my home. Get the magnetic bug screen(s) and put them on your side and back doors, that way you can then have them open for good airflow.

That happened to my vehicle and after a very long process and lots of money spend we discovered it was our immobilizer causing the problem
Did you have have to upgrade alternator for charging? I heard you have to for lithium and extra drain on starting battery for charging.
