When I was in the army we did PT in our boots! They finally stopped that in the early 80's because too many people were getting foot injuries, and allowed running shoes. The worst part of reception for me was the shots. So many shots, I couldn't lift my arms.

One of the true fact in the Army is never listen to private talks! What you see and experience is real
For those who are gonna ship out soon, just remember this, basic is just a program design to break you down, nothing personal, the REAL Army is totally different environment compare to basic and AIT
Just be mind focus on the reasons you put up your right hand, you only got one job to do, obey and execute your given orders! Don't be a shit bag and shammer. Proof your reputation through your performance, which will find you EASY along the way in your military life, good luck to y'all!!!

I don't know about yall but my reception, they took our phones day 1, we had to wake up at 0330 in the morning for accountability, it was just a purgatory of sitting/standing around for hours not able to talk or do anything. Though what I thought was kinda funny was that the drills at reception treated us better than the civillians we had to deal with when we had our uniform items issued. I'm still mad that the lady issuing our dress shoes gave me a size too small, and proceeded to argue with me over what size shoe I wore.

The biggest problem I have is stress cards and cell phones. Basic is sissified. I can't hold a match to everyone before me. But it wasn't sissified with stress cards and cell phones.
