I have been on Zoloft now for a month, a tiny amount (25mg). I tried everything- exercise, eating well, going to therapy, drinking less caffeine, I tried alot of things to naturally boost my mood and ease my anxiety. I finally had the courage (with the help of my therapist) to talk to my doctor about my spiraling thoughts and how I just can’t seem to shake them. She suggested I tried an SSRI. I had always been against taking medication, mostly because i don’t want to have to rely on a pill to feel good, but as a last resort I decided to give it a shot.
One month later.. I already feel immensely better. I no longer crave caffeine, I’m on a regular sleep schedule without taking any sleep aids. I have more motivation to do things like cook meals and go to the gym. and the best part- my spiraling thoughts aren’t so spiraling anymore. Rather than my thoughts getting way out of control, I’d say they only go two spirals down and stop there. Lol which is great because for me, my negative thought loops were really bringing me down (depression).
I think the only downside so far is I’m not as excitable and full of crazy energy as I was before I started taking the Zoloft. But that’s a side effect I’m willing to have right now due to all the positives I have been experiencing. I’m a very emotional person, the highs are not as high BUT the lows, are definitely not as low… and that’s worth it for me during this time of my life. I’m not planning on being on this for life, just during this phase of life I’m going through. Thank you for sharing your experience!

How can I describe anxiety, it lives in my body, it creeps around my heart ❤️ and when a thought provokes it, I’m trapped.
It rides on all of the nerves in my stomach and gets comfortable there. When it leaves the feeling is one of complete gratitude. If I could, I would teach my body to ignore it…but my brain doesn’t have the strength.
People describe it as fear, but it’s more then that. Anxiety is a fire that takes more then huffing and puffing to blow it out!
This is where chemistry comes into play. And it doesn’t always play fair. It brings you to the brink of relief, only to say…maybe tomorrow. And when quietly the formula finally works…you hardly notice. Because you have been waiting for such a long time, you can forget that, that fire can be be controlled and even extinguished.
So now I’m waiting and praying that the formula comes together and does it’s job.
    🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏

It's always such a gift when someone opens up to talk about their struggles in detail and the journey they have been on, so thank you for that. I was previously in the military (British Royal Marines) and, following an up-close-and-personal experience with an explosive in the middle east had extensive spinal surgery which ended my career. Thankfully although in pain every single day, I can walk.
I put myself through evening classes and then University for a medical-based degree, followed by a clinical Masters and now nearing the end of an MBA. I worked my way up in healthcare to my 'dream job' as Head of Radiology at an NHS hospital which was great for the first three years, even during the pandemic. But now with massive staff vacancies, burnout, chronic underfunding and horrendous waiting times for patients who rely on us, my mental health has fallen over a cliff.
After my military injury I suffered from PTSD anxiety attacks for around 2 years which I eventually got through with medication (Paroxetine), so I recognised the warning signs. In meetings I would instinctively try and sit near the exit, I had to have sweets and a drink on hand as my mouth was constantly dry, I felt like I was going to throw-up and I started creating reasons I couldn't attend - which resulted in my boss telling me that I was 'hidding from my responsibilities" which in my (ex-Military) head was interpreted as "You're a coward". I went off sick that afternoon and my Dr has prescribed 20mg Paroxetine per day. I am one week in and I'm literally like an extra from "The Walking Dead"! I have not slept in five days, head is foggy and I feel like I am hung-over (I don't drink alcohol btw). I know that it can take 4 - 6 weeks before the anxiety sees improvement, but oh boy I just wish I could sleeeeeeeeep! Fortunately my wife - also a health professional - is fully supportive.
Hope everyone who views your video and comments here finds the relief they deserve.

Thank you once again, being open about mental health. 🙏🙏🙏It is so, so important.
I myself have my struggles when it comes to mental health. I was diagnosed with autism as an adult (I was diagnosed in my late 30s and now I am in my early 40s) - and to me, that was such a game-changer! I now know *why* I am the way I am. Now, of course - having autism isn't the answer to everything, - but it is a good indicator of why I react the way I react, why I often feel the way I feel, and so on. Of course, there's more to it than "just" the autism. Personality, how my life was growing up etc etc. But just knowing that there are certain things that work the way they do, because of my autism is such a relief!
Being on the autism spectrum often means one might struggle with depression, anxiety, etc. In my case, I did not respond well at all to the medication (antidepressants anxiety medicine, etc) that I took. The side effects of the medication lasted for a longer time, way over the time that they were supposed to be present. I later learned that for some people on the autism spectrum, taking medication can be a big, big challenge due to oversensitivity to the medications. Which in hindsight is quite logical since often, being on the autism spectrum also means having a heightened sensitivity to a lot of things. - Also, medication.
Going through the past almost two years or so, with the pandemic - has been a challenge for me as well. I have dealt with some new issues due to the pandemic and also since there hasn't been any chance of seeing a therapist (like, face to face) - and dealing with people in my nearest vicinity who has struggled due to the pandemic, that's been a bit of a challenge to put it that way.
Anyways, rambling on here! I guess what I am trying to say is just that I am grateful that you shared a piece of your mental health journey. I am also full of admiration for how you deal with this stuff, from the things related to the pandemic to your own personal mental health issues. I have always found great joy in watching your videos and you will always be one of my absolute favorite RUclipsrs! ❤❤❤

I started an SSRI earlier this year and I'm so happy I did. I suffer from generalized depression/anxiety (especially in winter) but I also have PMDD so I struggle really badly before my period. It took me a few weeks to adjust and I prefer to take it at night but it's made such a difference. I still struggle before my period but it takes the edge off.
My symptoms were very similar to yours and I had the worst case of the yawns! It fades after a month or so. Still have crazy dreams and night sweats. It's all been worth it!

I’m also being active regularly, swimming for around 2km Monday to Friday, and that’s also been going for 2,5 weeks now. It seems like I’m fine with all the things happening around me too, like all the little stressful situations one has every day. There’s still a thing that bothers me, a personal matter, but even with that still not being resolved I feel like I can get through it even with al the uncertainty. My sleep is fine as well, I go to bed some time before midnight and get up at 6am cause I swim from 7 to 8. I take the med (10mg) every day at 9am when I get back from the pool.

Thanks for your helpful and informative video!
SSRI medications caused odd issues with me (mania, shopping addiction, cognitive issues, dysautonomia), so my doctor switched me to nightly Guanfacine or Clonidine to treat my anxiety and panic attacks. This type of medication signals the body not to dump so much adrenaline and norepinephrine into circulation, which in turn calms the "fight or flight" panic and anxiety response. This type of medication also eliminated my night sweats, insomnia, restless leg syndrome, and migraines.

    • @Dulcimerist
      @Dulcimerist Год назад +1

@@TheDjaypattalion The Guanfacine or Clonidine worked almost instantly for both my daughter and me for anxiety. After a week, my daughter stopped having panic attacks altogether. I never really had full blown panic attacks before. My daughter used to have meltdowns where she would sit on the bathroom floor at school. Those all went away right away on the Clonidine, and then she switched to Guanfacine since it made her less drowsy during the day. I'm on the Clonidine, but I don't feel drowsy on it. I tried Guanfacine, but Clonidine worked best for me.
The difference with this type of medication is that it specifically targets the "fight or flight" response (sympathetic nervous system) and stops the physiological component of anxiety and panic at its source, which breaks the cycle of the physical aspect of anxiety and panic increasing the mental aspect of anxiety and panic, and stops the mental and physical aspects from continuing the escalation of each other into severe anxiety.
Lexapro works by increasing serotonin which helps to offset depression, and in a roundabout way attenuates the sympathetic nervous system. That's why it takes so long to start working. It takes time to build up serotonin levels. It can also have bad withdrawal symptoms.
Do you happen to have ADHD or high blood pressure? Clonidine or Guanfacine can also help with either of those.

    • @Dulcimerist

@@TheDjaypattalion Clonidine and Guanfacine are FDA approved to manage blood pressure. It should be easy for you to get a prescription for either, and you can see which one works best for you. I only take it at night, but for blood pressure they might give you a bit more than I take and split it into doses 12 hours apart. If you're on it for a week or two and notice your anxiety has lessened noticeably, you may find that you're able to gradually phase out the Lexapro (unless you need it to treat depression). Talk with your doctors about all of this, and you may need to coordinate with the doctor that manages your blood pressure and the doctor that prescribes your Lexapro.

I'm just past 3 weeks on Citalopram (10mg for the first 2 weeks then 20mg) for really bad depression and anxiety and I'm happy to say I was in a really good mood yesterday, though it's slightly less good today. I also don't feel emotionally miserable, unbearably hopeless or passively suicidal anymore. The only side effects I've had are: mild nausea for the first few days and when I increased the dose, an insomnia episode that occurred on days 3 to 5 that made me excruciatingly and unbearably exhausted so I had to call in sick to work, and daytime sleepiness and muscle weakness that made me have these big powerful yawns frequently throughout the day. I've certainly noticed improvements, however I'm still having some sleep and daytime fatigue issues and my body just refuses to sleep past 5am for some reason when I don't want to wake up till at least 6am and it's so annoying.

Hi! I've been dealing with ptsd because of childhood trauma/ a difficult upbringing. I've had emdr therapy, which worked very well for the trauma, but I have always had to deal with high levels of anxiety, always feeling very sensitive to everything and struggling to get through the day most times. Of course there's ups and downs but for a long time now, I have been going to a therapist again. I've done tests where there were definitely symptoms of depression and anxiety, but my therapists thought it wouldn't be helpfull to get a diagnosis. We just started therapy and it is very helpful in regards to standing up for myself, working on my self esteem, anger management etc. However, I still feel very anxious, sad and hopeless most days. Talking about antidepressants or other medications to feel better on a daily basis is something that they wouldn't consider first choice, and that I should maybe look at my hormones and accept that life has ups and downs.... like.. that's life... But I feel a bit as if it's seen as extreme to even consider these meds. When you are dealing with this on a daily basis and you have been to therapy for a long time now, is it that weird to ask my doctor if I could try it? This makes me feel even worse, like it's all in my head..

@@CreateSniping4k do im 3rd month on the pills, started on the 25th of may. Seems like its reducing my physcial symptoms. Im also doing cbt. I believe its working. Seems like our mental anxiety causes us to develop physical symptoms called somatic symptoms. The only way to make it go away seems to stop our anxious thoughts and with time our bodies heal.

Great to hear your doing well… one thing i don’t understand is you’ve said that you wake up and take your tablet because you struggle with bad anxiety but you take with a coffee, does the coffee not raise your anxiety levels? You seem like a very strong minded character, staying positive since day 1 which is a great mindset to have. I struggle to be like that. You should become a therapist for counselling. Thanks for the positive video :) all the best

Thanks for sharing your experience! I’ve started taking medications 3 weeks ago to control my panic attacks so I’m still new to all of this. I think this is something I have to deal with for a while it’s like a new world to me. I remember my doctor telling me to take a couple days off when starting the medications so I’ll know how the side effects are like but I didn’t listen and went to work the next day 😂 I was sleepy and drowsy at work lol. I feel sleepy 24/7 now but I ignore it

I just started Imipramine (Tricyclic Antidepressant) 75 - 100 mg, will reduce the dose soon to help me cope with my ADHD, anxiety, mild depression and trauma I faced.
I vape occassionally sometimes to get rid of smoking and to get the stimulant effects of nicotine which improved my ADHD considerably (I don't advise getting into it, rather I advise Nicotine patches or gums).
In just 3 weeks of Imipramine alone I feel an overall change in my ADHD as well as the other conditions.
Combined with Nicotine, during acute usage, nicotine potentiates the action of imipramine and has better result in managing ADHD symptoms than both administered alone. But Chronic usage of imipramine and Nicotine gives little effect. So I would not advise this combination alone.
But for someone suffering from Complex ADHD, that is Attention deficit Hyperactivity disorder combined with either anxiety, depression or another condition, the antidepressants can be a game change.
The tricyclic antidepressants are more dangerous than SSRIs though, so I would not advise using them for ADHD, unless your doctor suggests so.

The ultimate method I used to overcome the attacks was to cut them off at the pass within the first 60 seconds, by breathing in through nose for 3 sec, holding for 7, exhale for 3...repeat a few times until heart rate slows and more 02 gets to brain.
