As someone who suffers with extreme severe anxiety I can totally relate to her. I would stop eating for days at a time as a punishment. I worry a lot about my life, everyone around me and pleasing everyone. It's absolutely crippling, so glad she got the help she needed, lovely young lady it's so sad that society has 1 in 3 people suffering mental health issues. I hope everyone seeks help

I was reading a book about hormones. Hormones can have such a huge effect on the anxiety profile it’s quite incredible! The book called the ageless man. These guys who were suffering from depression, anxiety, diabetes, all were treated by simply putting the testosterone back into the normal range.
I had my hormones checked and they were all over the place. As soon as my doctor balanced them, I felt fine. I felt how I did when I was 14 again, not having a care in the world and happy!
My thoughts go out to everyone who is suffering! You’re all not alone!

Have they tried you on a nightly dose of Guanfacine or Clonidine yet? They specifically target the "fight or flight" response by reducing the amount of norepinephrine in circulation. These are gaining popularity in treating anxiety and PTSD, since they have fewer side effects and don't have the same risks of addiction or dependence as typical anxiety medications. They can also address insomnia and prevent migraines. Although they're FDA-approved to treat ADHD and to manage blood pressure, the smaller doses they use in treating anxiety won't lower blood pressure that much.

I have PTSD/anxiety from the sudden loss of my Son. My heart got way out of whack on benzo's. My saving grace is 25 mg hydroxyzine as needed. It works wonderful for me. I know I can take it if I am going to be in a situation that will set me off. It did make me sleepy at first, but not now. I also keep my mind busy with adult coloring, painting and reading. It helps me. I hope this will help someone else.

I took hydroxyzine for situational anxiety some years back, at a standard 25mg dose. It would absolutely knock me out in less than half an hour. Downside was I was always asleep. Upside? I guess technically it stopped my anxiety since I was always asleep. My doctor told me to stop taking it immediately, however, since the effects shouldn't be that strong.

I think one of the worst parts about anxiety is that it prevents people from actually seeking treatment, be it fear of the actual social interaction, or the fear that your doctor will think you're just trying to get drugs, especially if you've done some research on your own time and bring up a specific medication, most notably benzodiazepines. On top of that, reading about side effects and experiences from other people online doesn't help either.
When it comes to the side effects though, it's worth noting that many people are taking these medications and aren't having any significant problems. A lot of people sharing their experiences in online forums in most cases are going to be the most vocal minority who experienced negative side effects, so always pay close attention to the positives, because it has to have really made a difference if it drives them to go online and talk about it.

For a relaxed life sit on a chair, back erect, hands on lap with palms upwards, eyes closed, be still and observe your natural incoming--outgoing breath at the entrance of the nostrils for around 10-15 minutes or more. Be as still as possible. Slowly negative thoughts will reduce and relax the mind. Patience is needed. During your daily activity keep observing your breath consciously. Do the above meditation daily. Anyway you wilL lose nothing but gain something. . Positive affirmations for 5-10 minutes before sleep also gives quick relief. Best wishes. Shyaaam Sir. -Counsellor.

I know clonidine is very potent drug in lowering blood pressure. Isn't it dangerous to take it before bed since blood pressure naturally drops significantly during sleep?

    • @Dulcimerist
      @Dulcimerist 3 года назад +15

@@simonram8505 Not really, since it's low dose Clonidine (0.1mg or 0.2mg) before bed to treat issues such as anxiety, PTSD, insomnia, ADHD, and other issues. The mild effect on blood pressure that low dose Clonidine has helps to mimic the normal decrease in blood pressure that happens during sleep, which is why it's a popular medication to treat insomnia in children as well as adults. My blood pressure has actually increased a bit on low dose Clonidine, since it reduces blood pooling in the legs and increases the blood volume in circulation.
The dosing for using Clonidine to manage high blood pressure is higher doses taken throughout the day, which is when you start to see a more noticeable effect on blood pressure.

Discontinuing anxiety medications is a very anxious experience; worse than what you think requires medication in the first place. Cannabis is a natural alternative for some folks as well. It’s probably a better idea to find a better therapist that will wean you of meds and actually try to get to the root cause of your anxiety! Many doctors like to throw a pill to mask the symptoms of mental health issues, and while that may help temporarily, meds can only do so much!
      - fun fact: all the studies regarding SSRIs/antidepressant’s, and anti anxiety medications were only ever APPROVED for short term use as a TEMPORARY BANDAID only for EXTREME CASES of anxiety, and it’s supposed to be used ALONG with therapy. As therapy progresses, you’re supposed to be gradually weaned off the meds so you can live a more normal life. Sadly many doctors and psychiatrists want to keep you on these drugs long term despite the fact that SRRIs were never approved nor designed for long term use. They also prescribe them for even the most mild anxiety to temporarily suppress the symptoms, despite the fact that SRRIS are actually supposed to be last resort/nothing else is working! Many doctors are sadly lazy af

First of all I'm 71, work out, walk everywhere, good blood pressure etc. My ENT prescribed Venlafaxine 37.5 mg for my Vestibular Migraine that came out of nowhere. He said take it for 2 weeks. I took one at 10am and by Noon my Vertigo was 80% gone. I thought cool.. 2am the next morning I woke up with a blinding headache, and I don't get headaches. But I did read on Web MD you might want to watch your Blood Pressure if you take this. So I decided to take my Blood pressure. 196/121. Yeah off to the Emergency room I went.

I suffered from terrible anxiety and panic attacks. Medication just made it worse. I found slow breathing really made a tremendous difference. There are lots of videos about it on you tube. Therapy in a nutshell is a good one. I tried every drug under the sun, but slow breathing makes your brain realise you’re not in danger and stops the cortisol and adrenaline flooding your system, which is what makes you feel so bad. I practised the breathing on the hour, every hour, for 10 minutes. Just for a few days - and the anxiety I’ve struggled with for years has gone. If I do start to feel anxious now, 10 slow breaths and it’s gone. Good luck. I hope you find some peace. My anxiety was really bad too- I ended up in A and E with it once, because I thought I was dying!

Hi Dr, just wanted to share my experience with the meds you mention in video. Propanalol only helps somewhat with the physical symptoms of anxiety. Hydroxyzine is just Benadryl that makes you tired like you said. Tried Buspar with no success... Seems pretty mild. Benzos work well cause they increase gaba the calming neurotransmitter. But I know the long term consequences. I've also tried many ssris with very little success. Zoloft turned me into a depressed zombie, lexapro made my anxiety ten times worse, Prozac, paxil, made my anxiety worse, celexa wasnt doing much of anything. Also tried seroquel, which completely knocks out anxiety, but turns you into a sedated turd. Unfortunately the only thing I've had much success with is a benzo. I only take em on occasion. Not tryin to discourage anyone cause eveyone is different and what might work for some may not help others. Dont know till you try. Thanks for the vid! Just wanted to share my experience.

Aaron, There is a solution to every problem if there is a desire and determination. . For a relaxed life without anxiety sit on a chair, back and spine erect, hands on your lap with palms upwards, close your eyes and do nothing. Be still without moving and observe your breathing and body sensations for around 10-15 minutes. What is important is to be as still as possible. Plenty of thoughts will come but slowly negative thoughts will reduce or vanish slowly. The mind is reprogrammed. Do twice daily or as per your convenience. This could be life-transforming if you desire change. Best wishes. Shyaaam Sir. -Counsellor.

Checking all my food sensitivities, vitamin levels, homesystein, methylation, hormones etc. I've asked genetic testing many times form my psych and he always tells me no. I’ve been prescribed 3 different antidepressants for my social anxiety and OCD. I would give anything to get a benzo prescription, but doctors just don’t seem to want to prescribe it to me. I don’t specifically ask them, bc that’s probably a red flag to the doctors, But I’ve told them- I don’t want something I have to take everyday with terrible side effects just in hopes that it will prevent my anxiety. I want something that will GET RID of my anxiety when I’m experiencing it. I want that “I know it’s there if I need it” feeling. Just having that would reduce my anxiety on its own. And I don’t get that with antidepressants. I know benzos can be dangerous, but to me it seems way less dangerous to only take them when you need them, instead of putting 2 different antidepressants in my body EVERY DAY that is doing who knows what to me

@@teeeff8337 You don't know what you are in for taking benzos. Take it from someone who was prescribed them for over 20 years. Yes, they work great at first but it will lead to dependance then addiction and getting off will be a living hell.

Benzodiazepine is not dangerous, look at the long-term studies. They’re shoving that down peoples throats about the addiction and all that garbage part of it because people have abused alcohol and died. The people who truly needed it and don’t abuse it are denied it. I wonder how many people have taken their own lives because they can’t get that medication, it saved my life. The doctors told me I was going to be on some thing the rest of my life. I dread everything they gave me and nothing worked. It only made it worse. Xanax was the only thing that gave me life and now they want to take it away from people, shame on the medical community when medical practices is supposed to be between patient and doctor, not the government!

I took one zoloft pill - the lowest dose they have, and 4 hours later was in the ER with a low heart rate, and full panic attack. I'd never had either of those before. I was completely healthy otherwise but was seeking help with suddenly being a single parent with mild depression. And after 3 months I still have almost daily panic attacks. My advise to anyone starting zoloft, which is useful to many, - cut the pill and only take 1/3 for the first couple of days until you know how it affects you. Now, I've been taking otc GABA, and it's helped me better than the various stress Teas, cbd oil, ashwagandha, Chamomile, kava kava or other otc options. I'm still searching for something that will work better though. (probably a girlfriend)

It wasn't until I went to a real psychiatrist and he recommended I try a stimulant after he felt my symptoms sounded more like attention/ADHD issues than anxiety. I was very nervous trying a stimulant.. However I have found Adderall truly does lower my anxiety. It's night/day difference. I feel a lot more in control and that allows me to feel much more comfortable.

      @Dulcimerist 3 года назад +3

Report that to your doctor right away! If it's a side effect, which is quite possible, your doctor needs to know immediately.
Have they tried you on a nightly dose of Guanfacine or Clonidine yet? These are gaining popularity in treating anxiety and PTSD, since they have fewer side effects and don't have the same risks of addiction or dependence as typical anxiety medications. They can also address insomnia and prevent migraines. Although they're FDA-approved to treat ADHD and to manage blood pressure, the smaller doses they use in treating anxiety won't lower blood pressure that much.

      Infrequent side effects of Hydroxyzine:
      - Acid reflux
      - Muscle tremors

      - Throat dryness
      Rare side effects of Hydroxyzine:
      - Seizures
      - Cognitive problems
      - Vomiting
      - Muscle twitching
      - Paradoxical bronchospasm
      - Stomach irritation
If any of those somewhat describe what you're experiencing, it's best to speak with your doctor or pharmacist. Random people on the internet can't accurately answer your question. Go to a medical professional, describe what you're experiencing and when it started, give them a list of all of the medications you're taking and when you started taking each medication, and let the medical professional determine what is or isn't causing the issues you're experiencing. Nobody online, including myself, can tell you with certainty that the Hydroxyzine is or isn't causing what you're experiencing.

Duloxetine is a very interesting drug. It’s good if you are suffering from depression or anxiety. Not sure why it would cause anger tho. I took it . I liked it but it only stays in the system for 12 hours and those symptoms I have noted return quickly. Gabapentin should give you a more calmer feeling. I also took that with duloxetine. I still use gabapentin with my Wellbutrin. Note! Coming off duloxetine is one hell of a ride. Even done slowly with a new drug. Make sure your doctor works very closely with you on this duloxetine.
Maybe it’s just not the drug for you. Perhaps you could do gabapentin with buspirone. That’s a very calming combination. Good luck to you on your quest.

I have tried the natural techniques, some of them help, but when a panic reaction sets in often without warning, I need to take medication. The way I use it which works best for me is to take a very small amount of Xanax daily which seems to calm my brain. This way I can lead a nearly normal life. I don't increase the amount unless it's a very bad day - but normally just 0.5 mg per day is enough to keep me calm throughout the day.
