Hi does it really work for General anxiety?
I’ve been taking this for a few weeks now (after never seeing results on any SSRI or mood stabilizer)…and suddenly I feel like a kid again! suddenly realize that while life isn’t always easy, it also isn’t that serious and I’m gonna be OK. I can’t believe it actually works. This is life changing
Good to hear. What dose are you on? I’m starting 5mg 2x a day tomorrow
Well, here goes... 5mg tab day, 5mg tab at night. Ive been dealing with lots amd lots of worry, stress, panic like fear, about to be homeless, 57yrs old, scared, and know Im not in good mental shape.
how you feel?
I've been dealing with GAD for years. Tried the SSRI's, they did nothing whatsoever, only negative side effects. Switched to Buspirone and its been a godsend. First couple of weeks I dealt with nausea, headaches occasionally but those have gone away and I feel amazing. Definitely life changing for me anyhow.
So glad its working for you. Going to start 15mg daily. Any sleep problems from the medication? What dose are you taking?
God Bless you
@@michaelthau1007 No sleep problems. I started at 10mg twice daily, it's worked well but I'm moving up to 10mg 3x per day to see if it's even better.
@@AlwaysBKind7270 I haven't consistently increased to 3x per day yet, but this is a good reminder. 2x has been great though.
Yep! Buspar is MAGIC!
SSRIs are toxic trash. The FDA just admitted that SSRIs are useless for depression.
Who give depressed patients an inhibitory drug that makes them more depressed?
Depressed people need excitation (dopamine) in their brain, not inhibition.
@@kweirmeir thank you Kerel! So glad your doing well. Actually starting tomorrow 7.5mg twice daily. Was worried about it messing with sleep because I suffer from chronic insomnia, but that doesn't seem a issue with anyone
Thanks again
I am not sure why several doctors never suggested Buspirone for me. They just kept trying various SSRIs or SNRIs. I did my own research and suggested that my doctor prescribe me Buspirone, which she was unfamiliar with. I have been on it for 2 weeks now and it's helped me incredibly with social anxiety and OCD, way more than any SSRI/SNRI. Thank you to whoever developed this miracle drug. I am unsure why this is not a first-line treatment for anxiety disorders.
Why?
Because they pay Dr’s to prescribe the drug.
@@MrGeorgewf??
Did you have any side effects of it and what is your dosage?
@@nerdbamarich2063 10 mg twice a day. Mild/moderate headache when I first started it but after that no side effects

Beautiful message... thanks so much !!!

Great and highly informative video. Thank you.
Very comprehensive overview. Thanks
You're welcome. Thanks for watching.

Great job! I’d love to see a video on Serotonin Syndrome if you haven’t already made one! Your content is BRILLIANT!
Thank you, Ashley! I just finished uploading that video today and it will be published on YT tomorrow afternoon. I hope you like it as it will have a new flare since I have a video editor on our team now!! 😀
Withdrawal from Benzos was horrible. Busbar has been a lifesaver after the 3 weeks of taking it.
Glad it has helped you!
What dosage?
Thanks! I take Buspirone for stress... Glad to know this.... I didn't know the details on how it work, so thanks.
Thank you!😁
I started to watch, then the bell went off & I find myself at Taco Bell. Their hot sauce always soothes my anxiety.
I tried SSRIs for GAD and OCD and it made my GAD worse. Buspar works much better
I tried many ssri too and cant aeem ti break free from OCD.. Which medication helped with your OCD? Does Buspar also work on your OCD?
I am a PMHNP student and these videos are beyond helpful. Thank you so very much!!

Wow! I've been on Buspirone for two weeks now for anxiety. You are spot on with the time it takes to feel any improvement. I am still dealing with the dizziness side-effects but it is not severe. It also works as a sexual stimulant without the headaches induced while taking Viagra. Viagra is useless to me, nothing but headaches! This is a very informative video! Thank you!
So it helps as a sexual Stimulant . Because sildenafil I believe is giving me headaches after.. when I wake in the morning..
Viagra opens up the vessels, vasodilator, that mainly hits certain receptors. Vasodialators can cause headaches nonetheless. That’s why caffeine, a vasoconstrictor helps with headaches.
Can you describe the dizziness a little better? It's one of the symptoms giving me anxiety about taking it.
Ive been taking this for 2 yrs now on 10mg. It has helped me a lot. Makes me really hungry after taking it.
I wanted to get off it though.
I feel happier already and I haven't even taken it yet.
great video thanks!
Why are SSRI/SNRIs first line and Buspar is second line if Buspar is overall better tolerated and less side effects? I’ve taken every SSRI/SNRI with horrible side effects including being agitated. That being said, my doctor finally suggested Buspar and it’s worked very well for over a year.
Because Drug companies pay Drs to tout the drug.
Yes. Please. I was just prescribed Buspurione as a secondary medication to my Zoloft, and that is my biggest fear. I'm on 5mg twice a day.
Great video! New subscriber here 👋
Thank you and welcome to the Levelheaded Mind group!
Can I take this with immitrex?
Could you please do a video on Gabapentin for anxiety and also its role in replacing the GABA lost in benzodiazepine withdrawal to make the tapering easier snd potentially faster? Surprised have not done as many psychiatrist prescribe for that purpose.
Gabapentin has no effect on GABA. It’s name has gaba in it because it’s structurally similar. However it works on voltage gated ion channels. It has very limited effects on benzodiazepine withdrawal but it may be useful in preventing seizures.
Horrible withdrawals
I love it. Well spoken. Buspar (Buspirone) is not fast to work. At all. The only thing that came quickly was my fixing my sexual disfuction. If you give it time this drug will clear your mind because half the brain fogs come from an overload of unnecessary anxiety. If you see that some studies in Japan claim it's as good as Ritalin after time mainly cause the anxiety doesn't get in the way. However it can also not work and also if you go into mania or start craving the opposite sex of any kind it's a red flag for bipolar disorder. It's all trial and error and it's your job as a patient to be brutally honest with your doctor and nurse. Tell them everything even if it's embarrassing and tell them why this or that is so frustrating to work with and uncomfortable side effects.
I appreciate the knowledge and your editing is getting much better. Some drugs work miracles. Some drugs cause other problems. In the end you are just getting one step closer to being a better you. Keep going and it will pay off. I realized substances like alcohol or illicit drugs was never the problem. The mind is. Once you get a hold of the right medicine to keep your mind balanced I promise the bad habits will be like kindergarten. A thing in the past you cannot relate to anymore.
Thank you Yosif! You have a lot of knowledge on this medication I appreciate you sharing with us.
Does Buspar help schitxoaffective disorder or bipolar
I’m on my 3rd day on buspar after my doctor switched from clonazepam to buspar., I was gonna drop it but after watching this video it gave the courage to continue talking it since my body it’s so used to clonazepam I’m suffering cold turkey 😢
I'm sorry to hear you are suffering. Try some amino acid supplements or bone broth to help support your neurotransmitters during withdrawal.
Did it end up helping?
That's cruel to just cut off the benzo and replace it with this it won't do anything about the withdrawals became these drugs work on 2 completely different systems
I have tried SSRI’s but they always make me worse QUICK! I was recommended Buspar by a friend and have had mild side effects like spaceiness in the brain, dizziness when I move quickly , and suppressed appetite (which is good in my opinion) but it did right away start helping my my anxiety. The side effects got better after 2months. The longer you take it the more stable you become. I have been taking melatonin 3-5mg at night with Buspar and have seen improvements in the depression of it. First drug to ever give me any positive effects!!!!!! 🎉
Please can you make a serotonin syndrome video ? I had no idea what it was until it happened thank you for sharing this
I do have a serotonin syndrome video. ruclips.net/video/lhNXaG_kozE/видео.html
What happened if you don’t mind me asking I’m afraid of taking my medication because I don’t want to die lol they have me on this and escritalopram 😢
Buspar made me very sick with anxiety and I already have PTSD and anxiety disorder
I'm no longer afraid to say extremely hateful things now!
Just switched to this a few days ago. SSR/NI didn’t do the trick. But my doc had me on Ativan for a year I finally asked to switch. Hopefully it works.
We dropped ssri due to side effects, so my dr has me on Buspar during the day and mirtazapine at night. I feel great with that combo. Do you know of any real problems with mirtazapine? I’ve read about cholesterol and lower wbc but so far my numbers have been fine and mirtazapine works great for me with sleep and an extra oomph for anxiety depression on top of Buspar.
Oh and great videos and information. You really know your stuff
Thank you. Mirtazepine can be great for both depression and anxiety, even better for sleep. It can increase cholesterol and appetite, so just keep monitoring your weight and labs. If you see an upwards trend, consider switching treatment.
@@LevelheadedMindValium is better❤❤
I’m on the same combo ! You still tsking both?!
Just started on it not even a week yet, while in the hospital i asked about anxiety med the Dr put on this med i hope it's the right one😮
How are you feeling now?
When having panic attacks and debilitating anxiety you need a medication that works right away, not something that even in Medical Journals says this medication "Might help" with Anxiety but can take 2-12 weeks before I might work. It's like having a medication that will stop a heart attack instantly but doctors refused to prescribe it so they prescribe you a different medication that could take 2-12 weeks to stop the heart attack you are having at that exact moment
Thanks for sharing your thoughts. Yes, short acting medications like benzos have there place when used short term. Buspar is a safer long-term option.
Hydroxizine seems to be the best immediate onset alternative. However it has unpleasant side effects.
Benzos are famous for the damage they often cause to people. Addiction, horrible whitdrawal, cognitive impairment and akathisia.
@@EphesianRose Hello 👋 What side effects have you experienced? It puts me straight to sleep so I guess I’m not anxious because I’m asleep..
It is true it’s not something that works instantly, But it’s something You take every day and within time you’ll notice You have a lot less anxiety To a point where you may no longer need benzos, At least that’s the case with me. It’s a long time treatment plan.
How can you get this prescribed in Australia?
How can I switch from Prozac to this? What's the process? My anxiety and depression are not mild. Anxiety I have is quite severe.
Can I drink bedtime tea while taking Buspirone? If so how far apart from taking the medicine?
Does ambien decrease the effectiveness of busiprone? Thanks ❤
I absolutely loved this video, thank you$
Just prescribed 30mg daily. Finished my klonopin taper 4 months ago, never again.
My dr says 3mg of lunesta wont interact with Buspar? Insomnia for 2 years.

Thanks for sharing. Though Lunesta may not have drug interactions it acts similarly to the benzodiazepines so be careful not to get dependent on it. Take care and I'm glad to hear Buspirone worked for you! And definitely excited that you were able to stop klonopin, that's worth celebrating 🎉
@@LevelheadedMind Thank You and God Bless you
@@michaelthau1007 You're welcome and God Bless you as well 🙏
Can it be used with Buspar? I am on both and I don't think both works as they say it should, still anxious.
Awesome video! Thanks for posting this, really helped in clearing my doubts. Its just been 3 days that I am taking Buspirone but having sleep issues. Unable to sleep whole nights, the brain remains active all night. Is it a common side-effect? Does it subside on its own?
Would await your reply.
Insomnia can be a potential side effect, just make sure you take that second dose 8 hours after the first. So if you take the morning dose at 07:00 a.m. then take the second dose at 3pm. That should help. Also make sure you are incorporating a good sleep hygiene routine, as lack of sleep is present in both anxiety and depressive disorders. I have a video that goes over good sleep hygiene practices here: ruclips.net/video/AWrsfGgERoU/видео.html

Can you take buspirone with propranolol?
Huh? SSRI’s often increase anxiety, particularly at first. Plus, they have sexual side effects in a large majority of people.
Can you do a video on pristiq?
Why is this a second line defense drug if it has so many benefits and better tolerated?
Was going to ask this question
she's fucking amazing.
Your expression really awesome 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
Buspar seems to have a lot less side effects than the ssri snri meds. The benzos work the best on anxiety with no side effects unless you get addicted and withdraw too fast, but drs seem to not want to prescribe it even for those that don’t abuse it
Benzos are a tough option. You get addicted so fast and long term ya may have interdose WD
Same . Benzos have been the only thing that works for me with gad and stress , but like you said docs are reluctant to write it and ive never abused benzos because i actually take them for anxiety and to be comfortable in public not to get high
@@EphesianRose i was on ativan , klonopin and xanax at different times . I would rate ativan the best then klonopin and xanax last
Sounds like you grew dependent on benzos
Prolonged use of Benzos will lead to dependence. So, Drs avoid prescribing it except otherwise necessary.
Great video.
Do you know if Buspar is okay for someone that has glaucoma? Also, which anxiety/depression type meds would you say are probably the best for glaucoma patients?
My dr said low dose Buspar should be a lot safer for those with glaucoma when compared to ssri type meds.
Been taking it for 2 months up 2 ,15 mg per day it’s been some help but not 110% , and a very irritating pounding heart and chest gas
Thank you for the information . you are beautiful

I keep wondering if it’s better to turn into things like Sam E or other natural choices🤷♀️

You will have to watch out for serotonin syndrome which I discuss in this video ruclips.net/video/lhNXaG_kozE/видео.html
i was prescribed this while getting off of venlafaxine. i’ve had such a bad experience with venlafaxine that i’m scared to try my buspar. i just don’t know how much more i can take with these side effects
I started Buspirone in July after my therapist has suggested an anti depressant for years but I’ve always been terrified of taking anything. My anxiety got really bad this spring and I felt I had no choice but to go on something. Buspirone has helped me a lot. I had previously been on adderall and came off that cold turkey due to a major panic attack. I still get weird about taking Buspirone but that’s my own issue, I even get weird w vitamins. I say try it, if I can do it I promise you can too.

Hi doctor! Can I take pristiq with buspirone? I started today with buspirone 10 mg. Shall I have to take it twice a day, for example 2 tablets of 5 mg, or is better one tablet of 10 mg daily? My starting dosage is 10 mg, when do I have to increase it? Or how I know that I have to increase the dosage? Thanks 😊
These are questions to ask your provider. Buspar is best taken at least twice a day. Get clarification on dosing and when to increase, etc. From your provider.
I start this med tomorrow I’m on pristiq and also instant release adderal (bc XR was just toooooo up n down for me so I take 2 5mg pills per day) will this be too much serotonin for me? And I sure can’t afford to gain weight after being house bound w extreme anxiety n chronic fatigue for 2 years
It will be hard to say for sure since different people will respond differently to these medications. In my video on serotonin syndrome I discuss the signs and symptoms to watch out for, so just be aware that you are at an increased risk of serotonin syndrome and watch for potential symptoms. Keep in mind though that because Buspar is a serotonin stabilizer it can actually turn down the extra serotonin in certain areas of the brain, so risk is minimal.
In my experience, buspirone did very little to help with my severe GAD, even at the maximum dose. Of course, your mileage may very. I have a friend on buspirone who does pretty well, but his anxiety is much less severe than mine. So far, the only meds that really work are SSRIs like Lexapro. I also found the combo of the two to do nothing to combat the sexual side effects of Lexapro. Again, your mileage may vary. Stay away from the benzos as much as possible though.
I deal with Severe Anxiety as well I was bed ridden for months until I went to the doctor and got prescribed buspirone it helped my anxiety for 3 years but I stopped taking it and two weeks ago it came back but I need to go to back and get another prescription for it cause after you stop taking it you think you’re fine until the anxiety comes back

Hope that helps 🙏
What's the real difference in trazodone and buspar??? As far as what they treat and how? Which is best for anxiety?
Two completely different medications. Trazodone is an antidepressant often used to help insomnia. Buspar is an anxiolytic used for anxiety.
@@LevelheadedMind I know they're so much different but like chemically and how it reacts on what different receptors? Things of that nature if that made sense 😅 lol
If you have epilepsy should you take busiprone ? I take keppra and wasn’t sure if I could take keppra with it but my doctor did prescribe it so she would know right ?
As long as your seizures are controlled with Keppra should be fine, but their is a low risk of seizures on this medication, so may need increase in Keppra if seizures start. Definitely something to discuss with your provider.
Is it ok to drive a bus while on busperone?
I am taking loperamide 2mg 2 to 3 times a day which is also metabolized via the CYP3A4. Can I still take this medicine?
No interaction exists. They can both be metabolized by the same pathway. It's when one is an inhibitor or inducer of the pathway where you run into problems.
Took Buspar 7.5mg and 25 minutes later had about 25 brain zaps, palpitations and dypnea ! This is after about 2 weeks of treatment! I am soooo upset. I don’t understand. This literally only happened to me very rarely in the past when I was on an SSRI that was short acting and perhaps missed a dose. But this……this freaked me out because it happened as I was walking into work and happened like 20 plus times. Thought I was going to have a seizure. I’m so disappointed because I need something.
That is an unusual reaction. Please discuss it with your doctor. Perhaps seeing a neurologist may be helpful to rule out any underlying conditions, like seizures. I wish you the best and hope you find a treatment that works well for you.
Omg i feel the weird zap again what is that

You can, but if you take NSAIDs regularly it will increase your risk for bleeding.

It has a short half life so for continued effectiveness in reducing anxiety it is best taken twice a day.

Can buspar and or lexapro cause ringing in the ears??
Yes, rare but it can happen. Benzos can do that more commonly though.
Can you take with Gabapentin to assist in benzodiazepine tapering? If not, which is more effective? Thsnks.
Gabbabentine does not help benzo WD
@@garysimone4977 Several peer reviewed controlled studies say it does, which makes sense as it increases GABA and has been shown effective in treating alcoholism. Was it not successful for you? If tried, what dosage did you take and for how long?
gabapentin works on voltage gated ion channels and not gaba. It got its name because it’s a gabapentinoid structurally.
I got it after abruptly being withdrawn from benzos. I was in early withdrawal. That is probably because my withdrawal was full blown. I may try it when I'm done with my taper. I have been reinstated on a small dose of benzos. In my case it did nothing.
Hi Sharon, thanks for sharing. Once you have been on a benzo for anxiety, Buspar will be less effective. Though it can work as good as a benzo after 2 weeks of proper dosing, after having been on a benzo for anxiety, especially long-term, your body won't respond the same to other treatments.
So true! I an lucky enough to have been with a dual diagnostic clinic and my prescribed is benzo wise. After being in a couple psych hospitals and a group home for my withdrawal they are going slow and monitoring me. My abrupt withdrawal almost killed me. No matter what I would suggest a benzo wise Dr!
How long were you on benzos?
Thank you for the information. Can you explain how someone is at risk for serotonin syndrome if Buspar downregulates serotonin? Thanks!
Buspar is a partial agonist so it can lower serotonin, but also increase it. Risk for serotonin syndrome is lower than an SSRI or SNRI, but still need to be aware to monitor for it.
@@LevelheadedMind how exactly does it lower serotonin and increase it at the same time? And also, do you know if there are any natural supplements that can do that as well? I went off Buspirone recently due to all the unwanted side effects and oddly I’m having extreme morning depression/mild daytime depression. I’m thinking maybe my depression is serotonin realated?
Also, my provider said to take Buspar sporadically but you're saying it only work cumulatively.
Unfortunately, that is a misconception... typically among non mental health providers. Buspar does not work when taken as needed, it must be taken at least twice a day regularly for it to work.
Perhaps I should do a video to clarify this.
@@LevelheadedMind Can you point to a study or other documentation saying this - that I can show to my provider?
I'm on Venlafaxine and I told my doctor that it mostly works but I still have a couple of days a week where I'm really anxious. She didn't want to give me Xanax or any Benzo's so she prescribed me Buspirone and told me to just take it when needed. It's a really low dose 5mg, but she didn't say that I need to take this everyday for it to work.
Is this going to be helpful as a take when needed drug for anxiety? I'm confused as to why my PCP would tell me to take it when needed when everywhere else seems to say you have to take it for a few weeks for it to work.
Most PCPs prescribe it this way, because they don't have training in psychiatry. For Buspirone to be effective it must be taken daily and at least twice a day.
@@Amy-ms6wj fyi....if ya still or need a provider this lady is awsome, she is my provider and I can't say enough about her. SHE IS AWSOME
Hi I do not agree with going benzodiazepines a bad drug for anxiety alone. Serotonin reuptake inhibitors take forever to work. I personally can't tolerate them at all tried many. They have to be withdrawn slowly otherwise you have withdrawals worse then the benzodiazepine in my opinion. They gave me Seroquel which was like having a frontal lobotomy. And therefore benzodiazepines had the least debilitating effects all the way around.
@@waynewilliams4552I take benzodiazepines for my anxiety and insomnia along with Buspirone. I hate how benzodiazepines are demonized, similar to opioids, as they are both effective treatments for panic/anxiety and moderate to severe pain (opioids).
You just cannot ABUSE them! Try to not take them everyday and you will be fine.
I’ve been taking 2mg of Clonazepam for three (3) years now, for my anxiety, and 30mg of Temazepam for just about a year for insomnia. I do not take them every day, maybe 2-3 times per week. Sometimes when I am truly exhausted and workout I do not need them. I’ve gone a few weeks without taking a Clonazepam or Temazepam and never had a single withdrawal symptom.
Yes, benzodiazepines can be addicting because they work so well and so fast but one must be aware of this and do whatever they can to mitigate a possible pathway to dependence and addiction.
I have tried numerous SSRIs and SNRIs and ended up in the emergency room twice after taking one pill. I’ve sworn antidepressants away and would never take one again. Now for others it saves their lives! This is just my experience. But Buspirone was very helpful in controlling my anxiety and I agree with the many commentators that Buspirone has been a godsend. Also, knowing I can stop taking them with no side effects was the main reason I decided to commence treatment.
Best of luck to all and I wish you all health, happiness and success!
I was thinking the same thing. I was told I can take it right away and should get relief right away but it will get even better over time. I only got 5mg to take 2 times daily. I’m really hoping it at least does something right away.
