    Was on this med for over 2 decades. A self-employrd remodeler, specializing in kitchens and baths, I found myself looking for anything to go wrong on the job so I could quit and go home by noon. Was given Wellbutrin because "it has an energy component", per my Dr..I never noticed increased energy, but was surprised to find myself able to put in a full days work by the end of the first week. When a frustrating problem arose,, I simply solved it and kept working. Eventually decided to stop the med as no longer needed. Never lost much weight, but did stop a 51 year smoking habit. Today, as an 82yo widower, I have no motivation to do even simple tasks like shave and shower. Expecting new scrip for buproprion to arrive in mail this week, and pray that it works again, like it did back in 1992!

    I've been taking Buproprion for over a year now to treat my Depression & ADHD (inattentive type) and I have to say I wish I had discovered this medication a decade ago. I was unaware of the appetite suppression side effect and finding that out is really helpful. Thanks for the detailed breakdown of this drug. ❤

I've now lost my only brother and my mother in the span of 3 years and 3 months. Alone in the world doesn't feel so great, especially with my mental health issues. • @LevelheadedMind
      @LevelheadedMind  2 года назад +1

      I'm glad to hear your depression has improved with adding Bupropion. The tremors are most likely a result of increased norepinephrine. Talk with your provider about possibly lowering the Effexor back to 150XL, that may help. Or if you are fine with the tremor and it goes away, not affecting your daily functioning you may choose to stay on what you are on if it is working well for you, as lowering the Effexor comes with a risk of returning symptoms.

    I took it years ago for quitting smoking, 3 pack a day habit, I was able to. It was difficult but before it was impossible. Later I needed an anti depressant so we tried Bupropion since I had not had any bad reaction to it. It's helping me work but oddly I crave food constantly and have ringing in my ears as well. After months of use I also find I am having trouble focusing. Wish I knew why I don't react the same as others, I could very much use a weight loss effect etc. On the plus side it hasn't changed my personality or thought patterns in any unpleasant way, I also cry a lot less and am more even tempered. I am going through menopause as well, helps with all the mood swinging.

      I had horrible side effects from it. It made me very agitated at first and then within days I was much worse. I had confusion and was out of my mind. I ended up calling 911 on myself and trying to put myself in a hospital. It was about 15 years ago. The hospital wouldn’t admit me but they sent me to a residential crisis center for a week. It’s similar to the hospital except that it’s not a locked ward and the people there aren’t usually a danger to themselves or others. They helped me realize it was from the Wellbutrin…I was so confused that I couldn’t even figure that much out. They took me off it, and i immediately started getting better. I was only on it for less than a week.
      I have adhd and I take adderall with none of those side effects, in fact, it calms me. I also take Lexapro (an SSRI) and I want to start to taper off it. I am tapering off the klonopin first. I took 3mg a day of klonopin for decades and it’s taken me 3 years to get down to .5 mg. Honestly, I wish I never took any of them.

    • @LevelheadedMind
      @LevelheadedMind  2 года назад +3

      Hi Rachel thank you for the video idea. As far as I know, the primary difference between these formulations is the duration of action, or how long they stay in your system and produce effects. IR is immediate release so short acting and typically requires 3 time a day dosing. However, I have seen patients do well on twice a day dosing, so it really depends on the person. SR is sustained release and this can be given once or twice a day. Twice a day is recommended for treatment of depression, but I have seen patients do well on once a day especially if using it to target ADHD symptoms or help increase energy. XL is extended release and only requires once a day dosing. I will research this further and if there is more to it than that I may just do a video explaining it deeper. Thanks again for your question and thanks for watching.

    • @christopherw2233

      There is a potential for St. John's wort to induce the metabolism of Bupropion making it less effective. However, I have been researching wellbutrin and I believe it could aid my issues. Although, I was wondering if you could answer this question; if I start taking Wellbutrin and the side effects are not worth it, if I stop the medication, what will happen? I have read stories where peoples mental issues get worse when they come off medication than they were before?

    • @LevelheadedMind
      @LevelheadedMind  Год назад +9

      Hi Thomas, thanks for watching the video and for your question. Wellbutrin has little to no risk of abstinence syndrome, which commonly occurs with the SSRI and SNRI antidepressants. That being said, even with those antidepressants, you have to be on the medication longer than 2 months to be at risk for it. So, you should know by 2 months if you can tolerate Bupropion, and then if not, can stop it without any adverse effects. However, I always advise talking it over with your doctor first as there may be underlying reasons you are not tolerating the medication that they may want to test for. Another thing to consider is that Bupropion is great for those symptoms of concentration and memory issues, however, it can be stimulating. So if you have anxiety, it may not be a good choice for you if you cannot overcome those stimulating effects as it can make you more anxious. Another approach to this would be Trintellix, which is great for anxiety and can also improve concentration and memory. I just made a video about this medication so be sure to check that out. The same applies to Trintellix, in that if you have intolerable side effects and stop taking it before 2 months, you will be fine and not have any rebound or abstinence effects. I hope this helps, and wish you well on your mental health care journey. 🙏🏽

      Thank you so much for your reply. I have taken on board what you have said and it’s admirable the amount of comments you reply to. I very rarely suffer with low mood more anxiety/brain fog/lower energy/mental fatigue. So trying to see if there’s anything that can aid this

    I'm a bit bummed. I took non generic Wellbutrin 20 years ago and I can remember how immediate the results were. Now with generic I feel like I'm waiting for a miracle.

    This drug was first used to aid cigarette smokers in quitting the habit. Somewhere down the line it started being used as an antidepressant. This drug has some of the worst side effects I've ever experienced. I would rage and be almost foaming at the mouth angry all the time for no good reason. I lost my job at the time because of Wellbutrin. I couldn't control all of the negative emotions I was feeling. Never again. A total nightmare drug for me!

      It actually was an anti depression drug, before it was marketed as a smoking cessation medicine.

    Made me motion sick and my ears ring. Was only on it 2 weeks and both symptoms have never gone away completely after years. I now have permanent issues with vertigo and tinnitus.
