@@bookswithjenna They say you should take it the same way everyday either on an empty stomach or with food. But you should keep it a routine. I take it on empty stomach and wait 30 mins before eating. I have also skipped the nighttime dose.. I only take 5mg in the morning. If I start feeling any sort of anxiety I squeeze my left thumbnail 25 times with my right index finger and thumb, then I squeeze and hold the sides of left thumb nail (cuticles) for 25 seconds.. there's a nerve that runs from your thumbnail to the middle of your brain and this will almost instantly relax you. Remember.. the only reason you're having anxiety is because the serotonin and dopamine levels are not equal.. one is higher than the other. Think about what you eat and drink everyday. Energy drinks, caffeine and SUGAR FREE drinks are bad for anxiety.. I have found out doing my own research that artificial sweeteners are bad for your nervous system. I drink lots of spring water and occasionally drink a soda or juice.. but when I do it's the real deal not that diet crap.
At a major psychiatric hospital they told me they don't prescribe it because it doesn't work. Studies show it doesn't work in children, doesn't work for social phobia, doesn't work for panic attacks, doesn't work for OCD.
You give very good explanations, things the doctor doesn't always tell you, because there is so much to know! And your voice is very soothing I think, makes it easier to absorb the info. It would be awesome if you had some diagrams, for all of us visual learners
Thank you so much for your great information; having issues with low BP and trying to figure out what's causing it. Good information for us patients so we can ask our doctors about it---they probably don't know this info about these meds.
Works OKAY for anxiety, but probably worse than the anxiety is its side effect of destroying my short-term memory. Benzos work far better but doctors are reluctant to prescribe them now bc some people don’t use them properly & become addicted. I only take one Buspirone dose of 10mg a day now & it seems I still get whatever the benefit may be & can remember things too. Don’t listen to websites saying you can stop Buspirone cold turkey, YOU WILL HAVE A BAD TIME. Always titrate.

It has made me more anxious. I was on 5mg twice a day for 2 months. I started having anxiety again. The doc just raised it 10mg twice a day about a week ago. My heart is going nuts, I've developed a leg twitch, a tick in my face, sweating. I took my 10mg yesterday morning. I was much better yesterday evening. I'm done, i don't know what will happen stopping it, but I will find out.
This drug has worked very well for me. The only side effect that I notice is VERY vivid, bizarre dreams. Having little to no anxiety is a fair trade off for me.
Buspirone can sometimes increase irritability and heart palpitations owing to the metabolite 1-pp (a potent alpha-2 antagonist). Blood levels of 1-pp are 49 times higher than buspirone itself (which is barely absorbed owing to extensive first pass metabolism). Some have questioned if 5-ht1a agonism is actually related to the therapeutic effect as some studies have shown extremely low (single digit) occupancy of 5-ht1a (at 20mg).
You have to be very careful where you get information on the internet, especially when it comes to medical information. I trust this doctor and appreciate his detailed presentation. I also consult various government and top university websites but after covid I am more cautious about using them. The main reason doctors don't take time to explain the details of various treatments and medications is because they have limited time with their patients thanks to the insurance companies but also their own desire to make as much money as possible.
Okay. This was very helpful. Thank you. I've been having major difficulties accessing adequate outpatient psychiatric care in the past three years, despite having an established diagnosis of ADHD with a history of MDD and anxiety disorder. Buspirone was mentioned as a possibility in a very brief telehealth appointment - so brief i don't trust that MDs clinical judgement. None of this information about the drug was shared with me. Interesting that the Japanese study showed efficacy for ADHD and that another shows potential for hypothalamus neurogenesis in MDD patients. That could be something appropriate for me. I wish I could try one of the still experimental, but promising fast-acting treatments for treatment-resistant depression first such as psilocybin or ketamine (being researched at Hopkins and, i believe, UCL), if only to clear away the depressive symptoms and see what that ADHD on its own looks like for a couple months and whether or not my stimulant med could be enough on its own. It would also give me more confidence in the ADHD diagnosis if the diagnosis was confirmed in the absence of anxiety and depression symptoms.
Hi Doctor, you said at minute 4:15 that in Japanese studies it was found that it was equivalent to Ritalin to help with ADHD. Were you talking about haldol or buspirone? Thank you in advance.

@@Piperloumeditation I haven't experienced many side effects.. one side effect is I might feel a little light headed but I also take it on an empty stomach. They say you should take it the same way everyday either on an empty stomach or with food. But you should keep it a routine. I take it on empty stomach and wait 30 mins before eating. I also only take it in the morning. I stopped taking it at night.

They say you should take it the same way everyday either on an empty stomach or with food. But you should keep it a routine. I take it on empty stomach and wait 30 mins before eating.
Thank you for your uniquely positive and knowledgeable description. I learned so much
At a major psychiatric hospital they told me they don't prescribe it because it doesn't work. Studies show it doesn't work in children, doesn't work for social phobia, doesn't work for panic attacks, doesn't work for OCD.
A great Dr. We really appreciate you what you do for ppl who have mental health problems
Best video I have found on this drug! Thank you!
You give very good explanations, things the doctor doesn't always tell you, because there is so much to know! And your voice is very soothing I think, makes it easier to absorb the info.
It would be awesome if you had some diagrams, for all of us visual learners
Thank you for the wonderful run down!!!!
Love the show you do great work I've been on this for about 5 years it really helped
does it cause an increase in appetite?
how many mg? what's wrong with all these people not responding to questions?
Thank you so much for your great information; having issues with low BP and trying to figure out what's causing it. Good information for us patients so we can ask our doctors about it---they probably don't know this info about these meds.
This man is AMAZING!!!!
Knowledge beyond belief,great job.
Thank you Dr Landow for anther wonderful video explaining everything about it where my GP would just have told me what it's for and write a script!
You’re a wonderful teacher; thank you so much 🏆
Works OKAY for anxiety, but probably worse than the anxiety is its side effect of destroying my short-term memory.
Yes benzos are the best for panic attacks I take it as need it and I want to take buspar regularly
There's no way of proper use. It's always addictive and causes problems when you stop
Thank you for this info. I just began taking Buspar @ 10mg 3x daily. I'll be back to update you guys - wish me luck!
how you taper it
Haw u doin
they never return with update lol
@@blindsurgeonc my apologies... I didn't want to let you guys down. I didn't continue because I didn't see any results after a month. However, buspar maybe for some but was not the right med for me.

This is extremely informationally dense. It's also a concrete narrative that reveals the motivations along the history of this drug's prescription.
Well done with your I formation thank you!
Took it a year and no withdrawal
That's because it is just a sugar pill with no benefits whatsoever.

Buspirone has an odd effect on me. Initially it works as a sedative. After a month or so, it seems to make me more anxious.
sounds like it may be something to do with your dna my doctor did a mouth swab to see what meds would be good for me with little to no side effects they had me take lexapro before the test and OMG i woke up high as a kite sweating heart pounding and went blind for 15mins just goes to show what is good for one may not be good for another good luck hope you find something that works for you soon i just started my journey have been in panic and sick for 2 months hoping to find relief soon let me know if you still take it and if it has calmed down
It has made me more anxious.

Having little to no anxiety is a fair trade off for me.
how long have u been on it? any weight gain?
Did you get results fairly quickly?
I'm just starting at 5mg × 2
Thanks so much
@@afit279 3 months or so. No weight gain. Works well, but does not eliminate anxiety completely like benzos can.
@@laurykristensen6239 seeing results took about 6 weeks and I now take 15mg 3 times a day
did you get insomnia from it?
Buspirone can sometimes increase irritability and heart palpitations owing to the metabolite 1-pp (a potent alpha-2 antagonist). Blood levels of 1-pp are 49 times higher than buspirone itself (which is barely absorbed owing to extensive first pass metabolism). Some have questioned if 5-ht1a agonism is actually related to the therapeutic effect as some studies have shown extremely low (single digit) occupancy of 5-ht1a (at 20mg).

Excellent information. Thank you!
So I should take it in the morning with food and at night with dinner? I was taking it right before bed but you said it absorbs better with food?
You're awesone, doc !!!!!!!
Thank you for this video. So much wonderful information, exactly what I needed.
Earned my sub and looking forward to continue learning. Keep on keeping on Dr.L
Try praying to your higher power..
You don't need drugs..
Amazing video. Thank you!
Wow- thank you so much for explaining all this!
This Doc is, thankfully so it seems, a walking encylopedia of psychotropic drug medication.
Hi Doctor, you said at minute 4:15 that in Japanese studies it was found that it was equivalent to Ritalin to help with ADHD. Were you talking about haldol or buspirone? Thank you in advance.
He means buspirone

Anyone used this for PTSD instead of antidepressants? I will never take AD again due to sexual side effects which never completely resolved. Psychiatrist one stopped wellbutrin and wants me to take trintellix. I said no way. Second psychiatrist wants me to take wellbutrin plus effexor. I'm losing trust when I tell someone that the deal breaker for me is sexual side effects and they keep prescribing drugs with sexual side effects.
