  • In today's video, we compare fluoxetine and sertraline, or Prozac vs Zoloft. When comparing 2 medications it is best to look at the similarities and differences and based off of that decide which one would best treat your symptoms. The best antidepressant is going to be the one you can tolerate and that treats your symptoms.

      Both is approved just as well for PTSD but medicinal Cannabis with CBD and a tiny bit of THC for setraline its 50--200 mg for PTSD fx and Cannabis well talk with doctor but Cannabis works as a SSRI when its CBD dominant and just tiny bit of THC just Google THC and Serotonin and CBD and Serotonin... but medicinal Cannabis is easier to quit i plan to exchange my meds while i quit if i get Cannabis to avoid widrawls after a while fx

I had every single symptom you can think of and almost quit… once I gave it about 4-6 weeks I am now starting to feel the actual good affects It has helped me so much! I am finding that the last 6 months I am starting to fall back into old patterns of no motivation/no energy.
    It is SO hard to know whether a medication is doing what it should be doing. Do I need more? Do I need a new medication? Am I taking too much? Too little?

    i've been on sertraline for 9~ish months now (150mg) and i feel like it has stabilized my mood, but not helped with my energy and motivation issues. i was diagnosed with depression, anxiety, and adhd. but i suspect i have bpd, since all of my anxiety symptoms are the main symptoms of bpd, as-well as other symptoms i have that dont fall under anxiety, but do fall under bpd. after researching im pretty sure i was prescribed sertraline because of the anxiety, but im thinking about switching to fluoxetine since its more likely to increase energy and helpful for mood disorders. do you have any advice? i am in my late teens and cannot see a doctor for a while due to not having health insurance, so i figured i would try and understand more before i go visit one.

I was hesitant because it was just another ssri, but decided give it a go. Much to my amazement after the first dose of 50mg my depression and SAD completely vanished. I wondered what the difference was, since it was the same class of meds. I found this video and realized it must be its weak dopamine reuptake inhibiting ability that was the difference. Side effects seem non existent, too. Great med for me!

    Hi, At last I've found someone I feel comfortable with. Ive been asked by my DR to start on 50mg Sertraline next Monday for Social Anxiety, panic attacks especially when driving, it all started during Covid 3 years ago, I'm 74 now (Male) and suffered from nerves most of my life, why I dont know. Ive now became a recluse well almost and mixing with others is very difficult even impossible. Valium used to help a lot but these days UK Dr's do not like to prescribe. What should I expect the first 2-8 weeks please? Thanks x John UK

    • @LevelheadedMind
      @LevelheadedMind  9 месяцев назад +1

      For most people the first few weeks is adjusting to the medication. You may experience some nausea or stomach upset, if so this can be alleviated by taking it with food. Therapeutic benefits will be noticed at weeks 4 to 8. If not, your doctor may need to increase the dose.

    Hi! I am 20 and I take Cymbalta 60 mg and Pregabalin 225 mg (and 2 mg Clonazepam as needed) for my chronic masseters pain (I have it for almost 2 years) and social anxiety, but I have also developed insomnia for 0.5 year now and my energy/motivation isn't the best (also my pain is always there) and my generalized anxiety is high sometimes. Can I take Elavil at night since it helps with both sleep and pain?
    Also, I think I have either myofascial pain syndrome or very possibly fibromyalgia, but it seems that my doctors just slide they shoulders and only my psychiatrist and GP believe my pain is real! This dull aching in masseters is ruining every aspect of my life. Do you have advice on this?

    • @LevelheadedMind
      @LevelheadedMind  Год назад +1

      I am sorry that you are dealing with this. You are at risk for serotonin syndrome with your current medications, adding Elavil will only increase that risk. So take that into consideration when you talk with your provider about this. I don't have experience treating masseters pain, so can't really comment on what else to try. Sorry, I hope you find some help and that your doctor can help you find a treatment that works.

      @@LevelheadedMind thank you. Yes, serotonin syndrome is rare, but I am aware of this. Maybe I will take low dose Elavil for sleep and headaches (I will talk to my neurologist). This might improve my energy levels and anxiety. It's hard to live with pain, sleep problems and anxiety. Treating this is also very hard.

    I’ve been on Prozac for a week now and have mixed effects. I feel both more stable and more anxious at the same time somehow. I like how it is activating. I am confused about one thing. You say Prozac triggers norepinepherine and dopamine release. Why is it not classified as an SNRI then?

    • @LevelheadedMind
      @LevelheadedMind  6 месяцев назад +1

      Because it's a downstream effect, meaning it raises norepinephrine and dopamine indirectly, by inhibiting 5HTC. It doesn't inhibit any norepinephrine targets or transport systems. Good question though!

      Fluoxetine is an allosteric drug - you can watch a youtube podcast to see how that works. Basically it misforms some of your braincells. Because of this misformation it inhibits serotonin reuptake - therefore there will be more serotonin sent to the brain cells. Serotonin is the good feel hormone, however the side-effects is many and everybody has different side-effects. When i think of medication - i can see that its a give (you might feel happier) and take ( you might have side-effects, or damage something in your body) I was really discouraged when i heard it's misforming cells, but I know that our brains has plasticity ( so our brains can change the shape again if you stop using the pills) so its not too bad, but I believe in the neuroscientist Dr. Caroline Leaf's approach - put the ''mind'' work into it instead of pills into your mouth. It's better to just download the neurocycle application and start working to experience less depression or whatever you are experiencing, since there's nothing wrong with you, you are just feeling emotions because of circumstances or a negative thought pattern developed over many years

      Hi Michael. First it's important to rule out medical causes of insomnia, like sleep apnea, thyroid issues, hormonal irregularities, adrenal insufficiency, abnormal cortisol levels, etc.
      Mirtazepine will increase appetite and therefore cause weight gain, if you can overcome the appetite increase by watching what you eat and satisfying cravings with healthy, less calorie foods, then the impact on weight gain will be minimal, but this is easier said than done.
      Other antidepressants used for sleep include Doxepin and Amytriptaline at low doses. Just make sure to check for potential drug interactions with your current medications. There is also this powerful herbal by Puritans Pride called Supersnooze that works pretty good if you want to go natural. Sleep meditations, and body scan meditations can also be helpful.

The drowsiness and fatigue never goes away. It is so difficult for me to get out of bed in the morning, even after 20 alarms. Can you please make a video on the sleep changes because of fluoxetine and how to resolve them? Plus fluoxetine is supposed to be activating but I don't feel that it has any such effect on me. You may have issues with adrenal fatigue so get your cortisol levels checked. Hopefully your provider is versed in these tests and how to interpret them. There are many other reasons and causes of this type of fatigue as well, circadian rhythm disruption, hormone imbalances, low thyroid, autoimmune diseases... etc. You will need a thorough medical work up to rule out medical causes before blaming it on fluoxetine. Though fluoxetine is typically stimulating there are a few patients who report sedation. If that is the case with you (after ruling out medical causes), try a different antidepressant.
