Both is approved just as well for PTSD but medicinal Cannabis with CBD and a tiny bit of THC for setraline its 50--200 mg for PTSD fx and Cannabis well talk with doctor but Cannabis works as a SSRI when its CBD dominant and just tiny bit of THC just Google THC and Serotonin and CBD and Serotonin... but medicinal Cannabis is easier to quit i plan to exchange my meds while i quit if i get Cannabis to avoid widrawls after a while fx

The best thing my psychiatrist said to me was that half the battle when starting these kind of medications was the onboarding. I had every single symptom you can think of and almost quit… once I gave it about 4-6 weeks I am now starting to feel the actual good affects It has helped me so much! The issue I'm having is I want to take something that will help my pmdd and my severe anxiety/OCD thoughts whatever , irritability . Zoloft helped the anxiety but made me feel more depressed so I switched to lexapro loved it but made me gain 15 pounds in 1 month don't even know how that's possible since I'm relatively healthy luckily with hard work I was able to get it off ... so I've been looking into Prozac but if one SSRI makes me gain a lot of weight don't you think another most likely will. It really stinks because it seems a lot cause weight gain and call me vain but I'd prefer to not gain weight I know some say it's just diet but no way nothing changed and I dumped on a large amount of weight in such a small amount of time.

Looks like prozac is the safer starting option now over zoloft.

Before trying any antidepressant / SSRI you should research each one and look at the reviews for each one and seek one that has the best reviews considering your problems. I sealed Prozac after doing research and looking at reviews because it works by producing more GABA in the brain, i know this is good for anxiety because Lorazepam acts this way and gives me relief. I also see it had fantastic reviews for people with OCD and anxiety. It’s day 3, I have immediately noticed some benefit (not placebo because still been having panic attacks) I’m hopeful that in a couple of weeks time im going to feel even better. FYI, I’m on 20mg Prozac with the option to increase dosage if I need. However, I’m hoping 20mg is enough to give me my life back without daily paranoia, ocd and panic attacks.

I am finding that the last 6 months I am starting to fall back into old patterns of no motivation/no energy.

Because it's a downstream effect, meaning it raises norepinephrine and dopamine indirectly, by inhibiting 5HTC. It doesn't inhibit any norepinephrine targets or transport systems. Good question though!

I honestly think Zyprexa is similar in effectiveness for elevated mood swings whether it’s augmented to an SSRI like not just Prozac, but also Zoloft or Lexapro. Yet, Zyprexa is often avoided nowadays unless it’s at much higher doses for schizophrenia or psychosis because it’s worse out of all the antipsychotics for weight gain. Due to its metabolic side effect profile, I think Zyprexa should only be used for non-psychotic mixed mood swings after other antipsychotics like Seroquel and Abilify have failed (and of course Lithium and Depakote in treatment resistant cases). Seroquel tends to provide the most effective mood stabilization in the vast majority, while Abilify has the least side effects (and some do very well on Abilify as well).

Hi, At last I've found someone I feel comfortable with. Ive been asked by my DR to start on 50mg Sertraline next Monday for Social Anxiety, panic attacks especially when driving, it all started during Covid 3 years ago, I'm 74 now (Male) and suffered from nerves most of my life, why I dont know. Ive now became a recluse well almost and mixing with others is very difficult even impossible. Valium used to help a lot but these days UK Dr's do not like to prescribe. What should I expect the first 2-8 weeks please? Thanks x John UK

    • @LevelheadedMind

For most people the first few weeks is adjusting to the medication. You may experience some nausea or stomach upset, if so this can be alleviated by taking it with food. Therapeutic benefits will be noticed at weeks 4 to 8. If not, your doctor may need to increase the dose.

Thanks for sharing your experience. It's unfortunate that this has become a permanent issue for you. However, you can't overgeneralize this and say everyone will have this.
First of all to suggest that one medication caused permanent sexual dysfunction is to claim that the medication made permanent changes to your neurotransmitters, which is not backed up by evidence.
Of all the hundreds of patients I've treated none of them ended up with permanent sexual dysfunction. Once the medication was stopped the sexual function resumed backed to its normal function.
Perhaps there are other factors at play here to consider, hormones, brain tumors, diet, inflammation, etc.
In any case I hope you find the help you need. 🙏

Fluoxetine is an allosteric drug - you can watch a youtube podcast to see how that works. Basically it misforms some of your braincells. Because of this misformation it inhibits serotonin reuptake - therefore there will be more serotonin sent to the brain cells. Serotonin is the good feel hormone, however the side-effects is many and everybody has different side-effects. When i think of medication - i can see that its a give (you might feel happier) and take ( you might have side-effects, or damage something in your body) I was really discouraged when i heard it's misforming cells, but I know that our brains has plasticity ( so our brains can change the shape again if you stop using the pills) so its not too bad, but I believe in the neuroscientist Dr. Caroline Leaf's approach - put the ''mind'' work into it instead of pills into your mouth. It's better to just download the neurocycle application and start working to experience less depression or whatever you are experiencing, since there's nothing wrong with you, you are just feeling emotions because of circumstances or a negative thought pattern developed over many years
