Among the 5 antidepressants I've tried, escitalopram (Lexapro) gave me the worst sexual dysfunction, even at low dose (5mg), and didn't help with my anxiety. I decided to stop after a few weeks. Recently I started taking sertraline (Zoloft) and I think I've finally found the right AD because my problem is more social anxiety and rumination than characterized depression. I'm starting to feel better, more relaxed, and the sexual side effects are milder than expected. A lot of fatigue during the first 2 weeks.

If this is the case, I hope that psychiatrists and prescribers take a long hard look at themselves and ask why they were willing to prescribe SSRIs without informing people of the risk of permanent nerve damage. Yes, this can happen with any antidepressant treatment and it is hypothesized to be related to serotonin. If you are feeling good on Lexapro you can use adjunct treatments such as Trazodone, Prazosin or Gabapentin at bedtime, or even consider some therapies to help. This article may be helpful for you as you are considering treatment options jcsm.aasm.org/doi/10.5664/jcsm.7178

Hi I have been taking Zoloft for the past 27 years. Lately I realised that I am unable to smell anything at all. Is it due to the Setraline? Coz when I visited the ENT specialist he asked me if I am taking any medications. I told him the medication which I have been taking. The doctor told me that the Setraline in long run causes loss of smell sensation.

Hi! I have 2 questions and I hope you see this! If not that’s okay, too :) so I just got put on Zoloft 50mg yesterday and I’m absolutely panicking about all the long term effects people have said it caused them. I’ve seen where they said it’s hell & lexapro is better and all this. So question 1) What is the longest I should give it a try before I develop long term effects? I was terrified to start anything for my anxiety for that very reason but I was no longer able to function great because of it so I decided to try it.
Question 2) I also am prescribed 5mg reglan 3x daily and trazadone 50mg as needed for nights I can’t sleep. I’m most worried about serotonin syndrome, so is it okay for me to take the reglan and Zoloft 50mg daily together like that? I’ve stopped taking the reglan 3x and only taking it once bc I’m scared, haha!

    • @LevelheadedMind
      @LevelheadedMind  Год назад

Talk to your provider about when to stop, typically 6 months to 1 year, then taper it over 3-6 months depending on how long you were on it. Also be sure to learn de-escalation techniques to reduce anxiety that way you'll be prepared when you come off to reduce anxiety on your own.
As for serotonin syndrome, that combination would put you at risk so you will need to monitor for those symptoms.

It’s nothing to do with testosterone, more to do with dopamine and the delicate balance of neurotransmitters needed for libido to function.
Best option is to lower dose, or swap to an atypical antidepressant which does not cause this side effect.
I ended up with low dose zoloft and trazodone (which does not affect my libido) so I get some benefit from zoloft but keeping the dose low enough that I still have libido and then boosted be trazodone.

That depends person to person. What was the reason for the switch? Also did they do a cross taper or just switch it? Cross taper would be best considering she was at highest dose of sertraline. I have been on Zoloft for over 6 years but I recently stopped taking in October because I have always had trouble keeping a job for longer then a year or two and I thought it was because of the meds.
This past year has been the worst for me and just last week and this week because I am not over it was the most embarrassing time and the lowest I have ever been in my life.
Last week I had to give up a job where I was at for only 2 days.
The jobs I had last year were not so much better. One job I lasted 6 months, the other 3 months while taking Zoloft.
In November I picked up a temporary job that last 2 months and I did very well and I was off of Zoloft for a total of 6 weeks.
However last week the job where I only lasted 2 days I started taking Zoloft again the week before the job because I felt nervous again and ya I only lasted 2 days I am thinking becoming I am starting all over again with the med cycle and it threw my body out of wack.
    Now…….
My doctor prescribed me lexapro. I have taken it for just 4 days and I feel completely out it and having the worst anxiety and panic attacks I have ever had. But I do feel a deference from Zoloft I can’t tell if it is good or not.
I took Zoloft today because I am such at a low point but I feel defeated because I already tried Zoloft for so long and what I thought it was not working maybe it was because I have never been like I am these last couple of weeks.
