  • What Is The Best Cabinet Paint Part II
Who has the best cabinet paint? Great question. I choose these seven leading brands to find out.
    Ben Moore Command
Ben Moore Aura can be used to determine what is the best kitchen cabinet paint.
Paint can of Ben Moore Advance Semi-gloss.
C2 Cabinet and Trim Paint to determine what is the best kitchen cabinet paint
Determining Who Has The Best Kitchen Cabinet Paint
In part I video of “What Is The Best Kitchen Cabinet Paint” I applied:
    Ben Moore Command Satin
    Ben Moore Aura Satin
    C2 Satin Finish
    Ben Moore Advance Satin
Sherwin Williams Emerald Urethane Gloss Finish
    PPG UltraLast Satin
    PPG BreakThrough Satin
In addition to the different topcoats, I also allied with different primers. On one side of the cabinet door was an oil primer, and on the other, Bin Shellac Primer.
After curing for 28 days, I wiped on Crisco oil on both sides of the cabinet. On the 10th week, I added olive oil to both sides.
For a detailed breakdown of product failure after 13 weeks, please see the video.
Paints that started failing after 13 weeks include:
Ben Moore Aura (oil side only)
SW Emerald Urethane (both oil and shellac side)
    PPG BreakThrough (oil side only)
C2 Satin finish (with no hardener (oil side only)
Footnote: Each side of the cabinet has one square that remained primed only. I want to see if oils affected the primers.
Paint samples are applied on this kitchen cabinet door to determine what is the best kitchen cabinet paint
24 hours was given between each of the two topcoats.
After 4 months of having Criso Oil and olive oil smeared on both sides of the kitchen cabinets, I applied the following stains to the shellac primer side only:
    Mustard
    Catsup
    Crayon
    Wine
    Coffee
    Pencil
various stains on a kitchen cabinet door
these stains sat for 24 hours before being cleaned
    Surprising Results!
I was expecting all the paints to handle the cleaner with little negative effects. I anticipated the stains being fully removed and left with a clean oil-free surface.
The light industrial cleaners were sprayed on sat on the flat cabinet door for roughly one-two minutes. The cleaner was the same I have used for all my other tests, which are:
    Krud Kutter
    Spray Nine
    Bleach and Water
    Simple Green
After the first application of cleaning, all of the paints had mustard stains (Tumeric) remaining.
When determining who has the best kitchen cabinet paint, mustard stains are the hardest to get off.
Mustard has turmeric in it, which is a potent stain.
The Second Application of Cleaner Told A Different Story
I applied the second application of light industrial cleaners heavier than the first. A second challenge for the paint was that it was still dealing with the effects of the first patch of chemicals. In other words, some of the paint was beginning to soften up, and now it is time for round 2.
Moreover, because the cabinet was laid flat, the chemicals could stand on top of the paint. If the cabinet door were hung, the cleaners would roll off and not collect. It is fair to say that these cleaning products acted as paint strippers.
What Kitchen Cabinet Paints Did I Test and Why?
Results after 4 months with Crisco and Olive Oil
A chart showing who has the best kitchen cabinet paint after a 13-week study
Who Has The Best Kitchen Cabinet Paint After 4 Months?
Though several of the paints proved to be very durable, Ben Moore Command could handle any situation. Ben Moore Command is a very unusual paint.
For example, it dries in just 15-30 minutes and can be recoated in 1 hour. However, just because it dries fast, it still self-levels like cabinet paint. In addition to being used on cabinet paint, it can be used for metal surfaces and concrete floors where forklifts drive. Ben Moore Command is genuinely a unique paint.
For more information on Best Kitchen Cabinet Paint Part 2 visit klappenbergerandson.com/16287...
Other cabinet paints that I would strongly recommend would include:
C2 with Hardener (most durable against oils)
PPG UltraLast (best coverage, very durable)
Advance (excellent cabinet paint, but it requires 16 hours between coats)
Soon, I will be testing other paints for kitchen cabinets that include:
SW ProClassic Oil and Acrylic paint
    SW Emerald Satin Finish
Fine Paints of Europe Eco Gloss
    PPG Advantage 900

WOW, love your videos. When you have question about paint, ask a painter! I'm paining 50 year old plywood kitchen cabinets. They have been painted no idea how many coats. Wanted your thoughts should I try to remove ALL of the old paint or just a good sanding? Think I'm going with the Ben Moore Command since I watched your video. What Shellac primers would you suggest? Zinsser BIN? Also best of luck with franchising your company.

Forgot to add, the PPG had wear issues 2-3 years later on cabinets, the Grahams Ceramic lasted about 8 years before wear was noticed. We primed everything with Bin. Best adhesion primer.

Would you suggest a brush or roller for the larger areas and the big pieces surrounding fridge?! If roller what type?! Thanks!!

Really surprised at the sw urethane. It’s easier to work with because of the quicker dry and hardening times… guess I know why now. I use the advanced a lot, just worried about the 28 day harden time and the fact you can’t do 3 coats in a day(well maybe a long work day lol) But I think it’s worth it. Some customers just don’t want to wait that long. 🤷‍♂️

I did not see the "wipe off" when he used bleach and water and on the flip side, I don't think SW was represented. I watched twice but I could have still missed it. BM-A seemed to have the same amount of mustard. I am quite happy with the durabilty of PPG

I wished I watched this a few weeks ago, we bought a new fiberglass front door that I painted and wife picked a sherwin williams color so i decided to go with Emerald urethane as reviews i read said it dries to hard and easy to clean surface plus only had 4 hour recoat rather than 16 hr recoat time with my normal go to BM Advance. BIG MISTAKE this SW paint is awful! Yes it applied really nice, leveled out (i sprayed it) beautifully but and BIG BUT it scratches so easy and doesn't like to be wiped clean. I sanded near the door so the dust went on the navy blue door that I wanted wipe off, I was wiping dust off lock when my finger nail barely touched paint left a scratch that i had touch up (2 days after painting) then there were some smudges from install that i soaked a paper towel with just water, it left a mark where i lightly wiped door clean that needed touch up. Should have used my usual Advance, have sprayed several cabinets/vanities/etc.with it and that leaves a rock hard easy to clean surface. Looks like at some point in near future I will be repainting door with Advance.

When you can try out Cabinet Coat. Side note i paint for a living and somehting you need to watch for is the base of the paint. For example some paint is an ultra deep base color(black, neon brite etc) will lose hardness. Sherwin makes something called Multi Surface Acrylic. Its an industrial coating so you wont see it on the shelf. Its made so that 2hite all the way to pure black is just as hard and scuff resistant. The paints that win here could be vastly different if you want a darker set of cabinets so please keep that in mind. Any 1 has any questions feel free to ask.

@@wb4072 Sorry for late reply. Just saw this. Normally we use something called Multi Master from Cloverdale. Its super durable. Also Renaissance is super nice from them as well. Multi master is Cloverdale's version of BM command. Except I get it at half the cost. Nothing against BM but they overcharge for products in my opinion. For example Aura is 100 a gallon my price. Dulux Diamond is 40. Cloverdale Ecologic matte is 35. IMO all are as good as Aura.

I would really like to do all I can to get another 8-10 yrs. It's a tall wish but Go for the Gold - I say. SOOO I had thought I would go with Primer: Sherwin Williams Extreme Bond Primer. Then for the paint, I just need white. I was leaning, until I saw your video, towards PPG as #1, SW ProClassic Waterborne Interior Acrylic Enamel by Sherwin Williams as #2, the painter I am letting bid the job uses SW Emerald Urethane Enamel. I see below a shot out for something called Grahams Ceramic??
