I bought this for the first time today (May 2024) in a dark green to be applied to my outdoor deck which is already a dark brown. I brushed it simply because I don't want to deal with the overspray. I'd be a week just covering and masking areas I don't want affected. So far, I am pleased with the coverage.
Thanks for taking the time to conduct this testing. I'm hearing that this may have the benefits of Advance without the insane 14-16 hour recoat time. Looking forward to trying some.
I have to redo some black doors that are oil base and you can use command over it. I don't mind the 3rd coat because of the workability and self leveling. Looking forward to trying it this Monday👍 Thanks for the review.
I just used it for the first time on some exposed steel beams inside a garage and it works great. The person at the paint store recommended I try it as the customer wanted a Satin finish, I sanded down the beams to take off as much rust as possible, and while the person at the paint store said I can use this direct to metal, I didn't listen and I primed it with the Rustoleum Rusty Metal primer that made the world of difference. I rolled the paint on and brushed it out as well but what I do recommend is to not go heavy with it, roll it on a thin coat and you will be fine and yes, this really does dry quickly
I’ve been painting this on my trim and doors remodeling my house, sprays really well with a 310. Door jams and casings I’ve had to brush and it takes 3-4 coats of this over the primer to cover the old oil glazed “antiqued” paint underneath. It’s expensive $78 a gallon. Took 2 gallons to spray 16 doors. Right now I’m rolling it on some trim and it’s producing small micro bubbles. I’m using a foam pro 2 inch foam roller.
This paint is basically designed to be sprayed only, your going to have coverage and tacking problems if brushing. Its a great product, drys and cures very fast, is thin enough to not have to be diluted for hvlp and the satin ends up looking like a factory laquer.
@fabiod5694 Hey! Do you use a primer before applying command, I usually use zinsser and then BM Advance, but I'm not that happy so I want to try command to see if is more durable and scratches resistant
@@pamela4638 it depends on the cabinet finish. Sometimes I like to put oil base finish as a primer and two coats of command. I’ve had great results or sometimes I’ll just use it as a primer and a finish. Never had a call back.
I getting ready to use this for a customer. Have you used Scuff-x and if so how does it compare regarding the feel of the paint after it’s dry??? Scuff-x is durable but extremely smooth to the touch more than any paint I’ve ever used.
I almost chose the Advance to paint my kitchen cabinets, but I'm balking at the long dry and cure time of it. I love the self-leveling feature of the Advance, but after your review and you said that it's self-leveling as well, I think I'm sold. Did you spray this or roll it?
@@AlwaysAntonette I love the durability and the fast drying time. The only downside is I had to do 3 coats because the coverage wasn't too good even with 2 coats of primer. However, since it dries so fast, I could recoat within an hour and still was able to finish all coats within a day.
I painted my living room pine floor with Benjamin Moore floor paint. It hasn’t held up very well. Thinking the command would be better. Any thoughts? Also, I just stained my composite deck last summer with Arborcaot. I don’t like the color so I need to change it. Do you think the Command would be better? I have 4 huskies so I’m looking for a very durable paint. I also live in Vermont so it needs to hold up to extreme weather. Thanks!
@@klappenbergersonpaintingha2933 Which primer do you recommend on laminate cabinets? Shellac or oil based. I watched the other video you did comparing the two but not sure what the final verdict was regarding primer in combination with Command. Thank You!
Thank you for the review. I sell and install doors, mostly exterior but also some interior. I am looking for the best finish and durability that I can spray HVLP. The doors are steel skin with a wood edge and wood jambs. I have tried PPG Breakthrough and SW Water based Alkyd Urethane. Those have worked well but don't seem as hard of a finish as I would like. Would Command be a better choice?
Thanks for sharing your review. Can i use Latex extender with Ben Command? How much quantity should i use ? Are they any drawback of using Latex extender ?
I think the same thing , Command and Breakthrough are similar type formulas .... both dry about the same hardness .... I have never used Command , but I have paint stick samples and it feels very similar to Breakthrough and seems to be the same kind of paint , same applications
I have applied a lot of both. The command is superior in about every aspect. BreakThrough is not urethane modified. Command is much more user friendly on the spray application. It touches up better in darker colors also. BreakThrough is a great product but Command is a step above.
I've have sprayed, rolled, and brushed this paint, no matter what I do I get tiny air bubbles, and they dry quickly, when I sand I have tiny circles all over my board. Any thoughts on how to correct this?
So where can you buy this? Doesn’t seem in stock anywhere. Would you go BM advanced or SE emerald? I’m looking to paint new unfinished cabinets in gloss.
Hi Chris, the command can be bought in Ben Moore stores. Call before you drive to confirm they have it in stock. There is a paint shortage that will end sometime in the Spring of 2022. It is a very real problem. Also, please subscribe and I will keep update on not only painting products but painting tips and tricks as well.
Just refinished our stair threads with this in black, did three coats just because of traffic, would you recommend a fourth and it says allow 24 hours before traffic, should I allow more time?
Waterborne products are designed as a 2nd coat needed always for hardness and durability. Good video but the poor rating because a 2nd coat needed is kind of moot point. It's a spray mostly, can brush and roll small areas and even then you better get it the way you want it pretty quickly and then leave it alone. Good video.
Shellac Primer. It dries in minutes, fuses to the cabinet, and leaves the smoothest finish possible. For more tips and tricks and product reviews please subscribe. I do have a video on the steps involved in painting kitchen cabinets.

This is what I'm going to use on my cabinets instead of laquer.

It's had to believe there is a paint that is one of the best ever cabinet paints and can be used on concrete floors where fork lifts ride.

I sprayed the primer from a spray can.

I mix 1:1 satin and gloss to achieve an acceptable sheen level on doors and trim. The satin is strangely more like an eggshell sheen level.

Command for sure is up there. For sure it dries harder than the emerald from Sw so I think it will do a better job on metal doors than other paints

Great review. I am having a hard time with spraying this one- how mich do you dilute for air gun?
I did not dilute at all. It's pretty thin paint. It sounds like it might be the sprayer, tip or pressure.
What's better for cement pavement?
Sound like breakthrough. Wondering if it has the same adhesion benefits.

Yes I do!
Have you ever used Benjamin Moore Cabinet Coat and the Insul X primer? So what is the difference between this and Advance?
I have tried Unsul X cabinet paint. And I liked it but I have not tested it like the I have with cabinet paints.

3 coats should be plenty. Did you use Command?
it doesn't cover because it's only 40% solids. shercryl for example is 68% solids
Do I need a primer with this paint?
It's always better to prime, however if you are going over latex paint you are probably safe.
