The correct way to do it cheaply and without feedback and noise from speakers after years of asking this question and no answers is by splitting the stereo out of the headphone jack immediately then converting both left and right cables to balanced XLR. You don't need a DAC.
@@oSTYNCLSYo what do you mean by “ARC”? Sorry if that’s a dumb question, I’m trying to control the volume of my Yamaha monitors (set up exactly like you’ve done - optical out into DAC -> DAC’s RCA to l/r monitors) but I can’t get it to. Hoping whatever “ARC” is can help 😅 Great vid

Hey! I was trying to find a solution to connect my Yamaha monitors to my TV. Thanks for the info! Keep up the good work. (Funny enough, I have the exact same monitors HS7 and the same stands).
How do you control the volume output when it’s connected to the tv? Since it’s not connected to the audio interface, do you have to control the volume with the tv remote?
@@MapstaMindPretender The monitors will have volume controls so turn them down while you set the tv volume. Then turn them up to the volume you're happy with.
The SMSL DO100 DAC with XLR outputs + RCA outs would be the best option I think. Optical input from TV plus Bluetooth 5.0 HiRes. This gives good sound quality for a price but its going to be much cheaper than any other DAC with this inputs.
What if I connect the outputs of the DAC to the 2 XLR inputs of an audio interface such as the Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 (using 2 RCA to XLR cables), and connect the Scarlett to the monitors with 1/4" TRS cables? If I also have my computer connected to the Scarlett (via USB), will I be able to hear both my computer and TV sounds from the monitors without having to change anything anymore? Or would it be better to connect the DAC directly to the monitors' 1/4" TRS inputs (that would be unbalanced connections though) and connect the Scarlett to the monitors' XLR inputs?

One thing that is failed to be mentioned is if your red and white ports on your tv says Input this method won’t work!!!! If this was said I apologize but don’t recall hearing it
Didn't really need the DAC if he had the right cable. If required to buy everything from scratch, a mini headphone male to stereo rca female adaptor would've done the trick. Then you could also use your TV remote to control volume, and take advantage of the TV's built-in virtual surround sound DSP. No soundbar required!
RCA cables introduce annoying loud humming noise on powerful monitors. RCA cables are absolutely useless if you need cables longer than *EDIT** 3 meters.
Hi mate, hopefully you can give me some advice. I have bought a Sony Bravia TV and have Creative T40 speakers. The only way I can connect at the moment is via the headphone jack. This however stops me using the sound settings on the TV as it’s all greyed out. Would I get better quality sound if I used your digital optical to DAC converter method? Thanks in advance.
You would technically get a better sound but how noticeable that would is questionable really. You can pick them up fairly cheap so probably worth a go. As for the greyed out volume settings, I'm not an expert on Sony but I know you can override this on some TVs in settings too.
Cheers mate i’ve got Yamaha HS8’s and was looking to connect them to my tv, perfect video

The headphone output is about 30 ohms it's really low for a clear signal. At least 75 ohms is needed for a good line out quality into active monitors.
Balanced XLR? Sure, using two DIs right?
That stereo test song is a banger 😆
Are you able to control your volume with a remote? I cannot. Do you have a video on that?
The only way to control the volume with TV is with ARC or if the TV has a headphone jack.
