      Agreed. He's actually a great representation in human form of what quality German Engineering looks & acts like; Simple yet thorough/quality, precise & ACCURATE...all while keeping ego out of the equation. Results speak for themselves. Taught me & no doubt many more A LOT without coloring or obstructing the process with any & all of the ultra-annoying, way too common wasteful fluff & opinion RUclips is SO over-loaded with. LOL
      Just stating as I see and have experienced it watching & learning from his videos. Quite gratefully at that I will add:)

    Extremely useful - as always. It's so nice you take the time to explain the topics in detail and don't gloss over basics. I've worked with music (as a hobbyist) for 20 years and I find that there are so many basics that you never take the time to set up correctly. I found that my right monitor had different EQ and volume setting and the tip about adjusting the volume was a game changer. Now most of the amplification comes from my audio interface, and not the speakers - which has audibly reduced the noise. So good!

    Superb work, keep it up, but two suggestions;
    01. A frequency response graph of the interfaces
    02. An phase canceled, original input audio vs preamps input, to see if the system does change the audio in other ways other than frequamcy and resonance.

    What about the volume on your OS (windows), DAW and software (spotify/youtube)? If your DAC is maxed is it safe to increase to software volumes? Or should the software volumes be set to 100% from the start and then to only control volume knobs from your gear, DAC + amp or speaker? Also can you make a video on how volume affects watt used by the amp? e.g. if I have a 1000watt amp with a volume knob and set it to 1% volume will it use 10watts? and if I turn up the PC audio from 50% to 100% will it now use 20watts as the DBs went up by e.g. +3.

    After I tried your setings I am still facing significant mike bleeding - since my podcast set up is always on the go, in various places with my interviewee sitting just 1,5 meters away from me.
    Do you have tips on how to kill the mike bleed effectively in post-production without experiencing cut-off sentences due to lower volumes there? Thanks a lot!

    We have a mixer for all our instruments. The mixer out cable goes to each of the powered monitor speakers. My problem is: the back of the powered monitor uses an XLR output (male i think) that i would like to connect to the A/D input on my Montage synthesizer. I tried using a standard mic cable, connecting the male end to the back of the monitor's out jack (XLR) but my keyboard only takes 1/4 inch as input to the A/D input. I used a dongle/converter to convert the XLR female end of the mic cable to a 1/4 inch jack and plugged that input the mono port on the A/D input for my synth. I turned on the A/D button on my Montage synth and raised the gain. I then connected my headphones to my synth via 1/4 inch jack. My purpose was to better hear the mix coming out of the monitor in my headphones by chaining the output of the powered monitor to my keyboard so I could better adjust the mix volume in my headphones so I could hear my vocals more clearly in the overall mix. No sound from the monitor can be heard (but I can hear myself playing the keyboard). Do I need to buy a dedicated XLR (male) to balanced 1/4 inch cable? Perhaps my cabling isn't right? Thoughts? Thanks.

    good and helpful video :D i'm in the process of purchasing an audio interface for recording voice overs and i wondered which cables to buy for my small studio monitors, which i already have (they're running atm with a 3,5 mm to 2x6,35 mm cable directly from my mainboard soundcard). This prevented me from buying the TS cables and maybe having some problems setting everything up (maybe shorting the outputs).

    Good morning. Loved watching your video but being of weak knowledge in this subject I couldn't fully understand. It was very informative for me to hear you describe how to set up the volume levels on the monitors and interface. I would like to know whether this will affect the volume of my recording because I have a very low voice and have to set up the gain levels of the input quite high to have a 'decent' recording that has to be given effects for pushing up the volume further. In case you have any other video describing how to set the gain of the input source in relation to the monitoring volumes, I'd be glad to watch them. Thanks for this video that will help me do better recording:). Have a nice day.
    Regards
    Dr. Somanna

Been using studio monitors for years, but maybe something like the KEF LS50 might be fun to experiment? Not sure how that goes from the interface to the amp to the speakers. I hope you can give some insights. :)

    • @PingWine
      @PingWine 4 года назад

      Windows audio always at max and control the volume from audio interface/amp. This way you get the strongest and cleanest signal possible.

    • @NoSauceNoSauce
      @NoSauceNoSauce 4 года назад

      @@PingWine What do you mean by "Windows audio". I assume you mean the main Windows sound control volume @100%? But there's also the volume for whatever player you're producing the sound from. For example, if I'm watching RUclips, I can adjust the volume slider. Should this RUclips audio slider be at 100% as well (all the way to the right?). The end volume is greatly affected by where I set the RUclips player volume. The same applies to music players (e.g. iTunes), or a movie player's volume (e.g. VLC player).

    Very informative video, thanks for the effort you put into making it Julian! I'm new to using specialized audio equipment, and was hoping you could help me solve an issue I have regardoing connecting my bose companion 20 speakers to a motu m2 interface. The companion 20 have only one 3.5mm input on the speakers, and since I want to be able to connect my headphones to the interface at the same time, I wanted to use either of the outputs at the back to connect the speakers. Which would be the better choice in your opinion? After some research I've found that I could use either a 3.5mm male to dual male RCA cable, or a 3.5mm male to dual TS mono cable. I believe RCA is stereo but unbalanced and the TRS 1/4" outputs for the m2 are balanced, and I was not sure about using unbalanced mono TS cables here either. I would really appreciate your expertise in this matter, thank you in advance!
