Snow tires would definitely have helped, but I am pretty sure I could have gotten out of that snow. I grew up in wisconsin driving a beater front wheel drive car with bald standard tires in the snow. I got stuck a lot and learned a lot of lessons. There was one moment when he got stuck that he performed very critically wrong. When he reversed he did it like a wussy going real slow. I carefully watched the rear tire and it shows perfectly what he did wrong. As he moved slowly the snow crunched and compacted behind the tire. He did not build the momentum in the few inches he had to get over the little bump that created, then he spun the tires. I have gotten stuck in many of driveways in the same situation. You cant be a puss about it dude. That first reverse is critical. Rock it forward, hold the brake, check for traffic, and when your clear reverse hard and get over that bump, keeping it moving till you are in a clear spot or at least fall into some tire tracks on the road. As people in the midwest know, just because you LIVE in the midwest, doesnt mean you know how to drive in the midwest.
I think what happened is you got 'beached'. That is, you got compacted snow beneath the body of the car that kept it stuck. The Model S has a great feature of adjustable shocks that can lift the car. So if you got into a snow bank with the suspension in the low position, and then raised it, it shouldn't be hard to free yourself. But with the other models, unfortunately, you may want to bring a shovel next time so you can dig yourself out. Or maybe ramps or something that you could jam under the tires that would lift the body up.
Were those "all weather" tires.. Here in Finland we use real winter tires - studded or non studded. tires. Like NOKIAN HAKKAPELIITTA (google those). You would not have any problems like that with those.. :)

Nokian winter tires are perfect in snow, try them and you will enjoy ❄️ time
I run Firestone Blizzak tires in the winter and would be very hard to get stuck.
Tires are everything. It has nothing to do about being a Tesla but you said it.
All season tires are NOT Winter tires
I think what happened is you got 'beached'. That is, you got compacted snow beneath the body of the car that kept it stuck. The Model S has a great feature of adjustable shocks that can lift the car. So if you got into a snow bank with the suspension in the low position, and then raised it, it shouldn't be hard to free yourself. But with the other models, unfortunately, you may want to bring a shovel next time so you can dig yourself out. Or maybe ramps or something that you could jam under the tires that would lift the body up.
Dude u need better tires. Wondering if it is summer tire
Please tell which tires were used in this video. Continental ProContact RX?
It looks like a long range model with 20 inch wheels I’m guessing it’s the Goodyear F1 all season tread, stock OEM.
Tires aside, do heavier cars tend to connect with the road better than lighter cars? Or is that a misconception? Thanks in advance.
Very fragile car. Very low ground clearance. Very fragile underbody. Not good for deep snow/ice.
Were those "all weather" tires.. Here in Finland we use real winter tires - studded or non studded. tires. Like NOKIAN HAKKAPELIITTA (google those). You would not have any problems like that with those.. :)
Ha I grew up in Naperville... looks like the Hyatt of 88? Glad you do these videos... I live in the PNW now and live at an elevation that gets the occasional pummeling with the white stuff... definitely a consideration for my probably purchase of a Y... thanks!
Yup! Wow you have a good memory. Don't think you'll regret getting one :).
прокладку между рулем и сидением поменять и будет все хорошо.
I wish someone would try this area with a front-wheel drive Chevy Bolt!
oooo ssank you for the leview!
I would never use all-season tires in winter.
Love my Nokian Hakkapeliitta's
Snow tires matter more than awd or 4 wheel drive
Very fragile car. Very low ground clearance. Very fragile underbody. Not good for deep snow/ice.
Very informative thank you very much. I have the same car / tires and drive in snow frequently. For what I plan to be doing I'll have to invest in winter tires. Now I know.
Based on experience also with RWD cars on snow / Ice I can definitely say that good winter tires make 90% of the game and the rest 10% is the ECP/DSC and the driver. Good video...already ordered winter tires :)
Stock tyres are 'stuck' tyres. Even on my iQ I have wintertyres, november ~ march. Even if You have 4wd, in snow, use the right tyres.
Where did the noise come from when you were trying to get out of the snow? Was that the noise from pressing or releasing the pedal? Thanks.
What does the law say about tires where you live? If you you get into an accident can you get the blame for not using winter tires?
No clue, never heard that before
@@DriversOnly ok. Just curios, where I live (Norway😂) we get a fine for not driving with winter tires in snow or ice
Video finally changed my mind . Thank you bro
Good useful information. Thanks for the vid.
Does Tesla make snow tires?
No, but they do sell snow tires on another set of wheels as an option. I think $3k.
Hi : tesla Y SUPPORT CHARGUE CCS Combo 2 w / adapter ? , in website only adapter chademo .. need charge 175kw ccs combo 2
This gave me anxiety
Dry snow is not that bad. Do videos on wet snow and sleek. I would like to see how well Tesla's traction control is. I saw some news about Tesla skids on rain. Ok so the slip start is not that great I can do better with regular FWD car manually.
George. Let us know how the batteries do with this upcoming subzero weather. I live in northeast IN so I presume you are getting the same arctic blast this weekend!
Tesla Model Y's are my favourite.
Everyone is yelling at him about the tires used. But I think he is trying to show what the stock tires (and lets face it many will use the stock tires till they wear out) can do in the snow.
Wow a snow like this I have never been on a snow. This is super cool
Turning the wheel can also help!
Tesla should create a rock and roll mode to rock out. By rocking forward and backward
