Just did 600 miles in a MYLR and the roadtrip experience is so great in a Tesla! Autopilot is freaking amazing on highway trips and the seats are the best I've ever felt
I don't understand where people get the idea that FWD is good for snow??? Why would you rather have a FWD than an AWD, it makes no sense whatsoever. The FWD myth works only on trash ice cars with poor weight distribution, where most of the weight is upfront so it gets more traction on those wheels. I hope you understand that this Tesla has slightly more weight over the back wheels, so using the front wheels only makes it worse.
I did a road trip with a rented M3 in Belgium all the way up to Netherlands. I also did the same from Liverpool to London, that was really fun to drive a Tesla on the other side of the road. For the summer, we will be going to the Olympics in Paris and renting an MY and just going to car camp all over France instead of gettin AirBnBs everywhere we want to go. So excited.
Your friends car slid, because the parking brake is only on one axle (back axle) and the normal hydrolic breaks (used while driving & parking) loose the breaking-preassure after some time. Always keep this in mind when parking a Tesla (or any EV) on a slope that has snow or ice. If its asphalt or concrete its not an issue.
I drove my MYP to the Stevens Pass in WA couple times on winter snowfall. My all season Michelin tires are very comfy and handles really nice on winter road conditions. Love them. So if you want to decrease battery usage than I found best to just leave defrost/ defogging mode on to your windshield and off climate. You will see about 3-5% savings and its pretty comfy to drive. Heated steering wheel and heated seats will keep you warm. If you like to drive with climate on than I prefer to keep everything in Auto, so car will manage itself how much to heat your cabin, seats, steering wheel to save your battery juice. Cheers

16:44 I think the snow on those cameras was already melted before you turned on defrost. I live in Idaho Falls and when it snows the car automatically defrosts when the cameras are obscured by snow so the cameras can record motion when Sentry Mode is active. I'm not sure if it does that with Sentry Mode off.
I’m from New Hampshire. We never use tire chains. We have hakkapeliitta ‘s. They are incredible! We used to have that much snow in the ‘80’s before global warming 😂
Informative video! This honestly makes me worried about getting a Tesla though, it seems as if you’re always having to worry about charging it and keeping it with enough battery. Like you have to plan your trip around it. Especially since I live in the Midwest with cold winters
I live in new england. Most of my friends who own a Tesla also own gas SUVs for road trips especially in winter. Tesla is ok for everyday city or office trips. Will not recommend it for road trips but it's ok if you plan it well. But still, there's some worry in the back of your mind..
I've been doing these long ski trips for 6 years now and it's really not that bad. Tesla cars shine in cold weather because of their ability to warm up the car remotely from the app. Traction on the 4WD is astonishingly good IMO because of the high weight of the car. Stopping every couple of hours to charge is no issue since the car tells you where and when and how long. You only need to make sure you have some charge to leave the car for a week in the cold if you can't plug it in like Chris. If you can plug it in leave some room in it for breaking when going down when the car charges back up.
When I was at tahoe a month ago my model y could barely keep the windshield fog free. I tried defog, defrost, auto, manual, nothing worked. Only the areas directly above the vents are fog free. It was cold, and there were 4 adults and 4 sets of wet gears in the car so it was probably hard for the system to dehumidify the cabin. Never happened to me in my other cars though. It was very frustrating.
I'm thinking of buying a Model Y for driving in Canada and this is my concern. The youtube videos of driving in Canada don't mention this. Could you kindly elaborate? It is simply a matter of allowing the car to pre-heat or using more battery power so that it can keep the cabin toasty and free of frost or as the Tesla heaters not powerful enough to heat the cabin?
Is that an aftermarket Heads Up display you have on your Tesla? I have been wanting one of those but haven't found one. Where did you get it? Do you have a video about it?
Looks like you had fun! I visited California from Wisconsin in my Model Y last summer, and enjoyed the drive out there and back. Thinking about visiting parts of southern California this year. Road tripping in a Tesla is so much fun thanks to the supercharger network, and Autopilot doing the boring mundane driving on the interstate.
Definitely going on a North-East Rd trip when I get my Tesla this year.... I just don't know what to go for, so I can get the Tax Credit. M3-P or MY-LR?!?! I can't decide. lol
About to get a 2023 model 3 and live where it snows and is cold half the year (Canada). So it was very informative. Though I thought you weren't allowed to use extension cords with tesla charging?? You every have issues with it?

Hey man, loved the video. TIP for you tho… I noticed you said your buddy’s tire pressure was low which it was but 33 psi is TOO MUCH air for snowy conditions. You actually wants to air your tires down in snow to about 15 psi. HUGE difference. Your buddy had too much air that’s why it slid down.
Exactly what my wife just said. SHe said "I used to be scared that my battery was below 10% when I'm close to a supercharger but now I like it because I know I'll charge faster." hahah. You get used to it and not nervous at all
Simba peeing is funny. We live in Saskatchewan with winter from November to March! (Dry snow, less slippery) My dogs accept the snow cold pee😂. I am still in the range anxiety stage of our model Y. I went on a 250 km round trip refusing to listen to music, heat on lowest setting, car seat lowest setting to preserve battery. My loving family remotely would turn the heat up in car! I got home with 28% battery. It will just take more trips for me to feel confident when driving in frigid temperatures.
