Like always, a really relaxing video! I was surprised to see that busy super charger. Shows that some areas need more chargers. It's the nightmare that every gas car driver paints in their head - you have to charge for 40min and you have to wait until a charger is available. Btw. I was wondering how I can get newer updates on my Tesla. I run with the 2023.2.200 software and the updater says that I am up to date. Although I saw that some people run newer software. @@bryanhauer Hi Bryan, thanks for your answer! I really hope that Tesla starts to expand a bit faster with Super Chargers. It's insane how many people already driving a Tesla. Just in my area almost everyone in the new home construction area has a Tesla. And I don't life in California, I life in Pennsylvania in the suburbs next to the amish. Just in my Apartment complex we have 10 Teslas out of, I don't know, maybe 120 vehicle? That shows how fast EV's are crowing. And after opening Super Chargers up to other EV's, Tesla needs to step up their game in certain areas. About the Update: I tried to use the advanced settings but when I try to click it nothing happens. I believe I need to use the "main owner" key. But I will figure it out. Thanks for the hint and the information :) Otherwise I can say that I love it so far! I love how smooth it is to drive. I have a 2022 RAM Rebel and I love my Truck BUT I hate that my Truck always makes this little jump when I put it in drive. In general, I miss the smooth driving with the Tesla. :D
Mine is pretty simple now. I used to have a small expandable sink, but rarely used it so now I just run water from my 7 gallon jug and use dish soap or if camping in nature use environmentally safe soap. I also use food grade wipes to finish cleaning dishes off which you can get here on Amazon: geni.us/UloZ
Yeah it was gorgeous! I hope to go back this summer and see how different it is vs the winter. I've done a few videos on Starlink and an initial review so just check my channel page for those. Thanks for watching!
Hello, thank you for some ideas for Model Y camping, we are just about to invest in one. How does your cooker work? from electricity too? Connected to where at what voltage? Thanks, happy camping!
In this video I use an electric burner which only uses about 700 watts and is plugged into my portable power station directly into the AC port (the 12v on the Tesla can't power devices that draw that much.) I now use a butane camping burner as it's quicker to heat up and easier to use and one tiny canister will last me months. An induction top would also work well, but just make sure your pots/pans are made to work with it.
enjoyed this one too Bryan. Hey got a couple ?’s: does that box totally block the back up cam view or do you still get partial view when reversing. Does that fridge hold multiple days worth of food and drink? Loving your setup 👍
Thanks 🙏 Only partially blocks and still can see fine. Here's a quick clip from my review of the box where I show what it looks like when in reverse: ruclips.net/video/uksUjlU5bjk/видео.html As for the fridge... I can usually fit around 2-3 days of food in there and that includes some 16oz water/soda bottles as well. I love that it fits into the sub-trunk as I only need access to it for 10 seconds or so every few hours and the rest of the time it's out of the way. Thanks for watching 😀
@@bryanhauer thanks for finding that video clip for me Bryan! 👍👍 I wonder if the Y that I have on order would have those sensors i think tesla got rid of the ultrasonic sensors on the newest Y’s 😭 either way the cam works 👍
Your travel videos are the best. Question, how did you wash your hands after cracking the eggs? Did you use one of your water containers with spouts, or some kind of hand cleaner?
I don’t have much interest in camping but this video was so relaxing and intriguing watching you make the process look relatively effortless. Subscribed and looking forward to more. P.S. this channel needs more subscribers!
Awesome video man! Mt Whitney is gorgeous! The views from that campsite were awesome! Definitely will be adding Mt Whitney to my list of places to go, do you think it would be a good place to go in the summer to escape the heat??
Thanks Kaden! I was just commenting to someone else that I'm really interested in seeing what it's like in the summer. It definitely seem like somewhere to go to cool off a bit so will do a little more research to see what month is best for temps in the 70/80's. 👍🏻
I am wondering why you connect your devices to the Jackery and then the Jackery to the car. The fridge can be powered by the 12v outlet, your laptop and phones can connect to USB-C. Not sure about the Starlink dish. Is it all about the wattage? Are you doing it to normalize the power drain from the car or something else? Inquiring nerds want to know :)
Good question! I actually don't plug the fridge into the Jackery as because the fridge sometimes pulls zero watts, the Jackery will turn off as it thinks there's nothing plugged in so that one I plug directly into the rear 12v. As for the other devices... The Starlink which uses a 3 prong cable that pulls on avg around 50 watts can't be connected directly to the car (even tried some smaller 150w 12v plugs, but they didn't keep a strong enough connection to even turn on) so I connect it to the Jackery and because the 12v on Tesla's is constantly being topped off by the main battery it's basically acting as a passthrough for the entire 75kWh battery pack. As for my other devices... it's purely convenience. I actually often plug my MacBook or phone into the rear USB-C ports or plug USB-C cameras into the Tesla to charge. Because I have the Jackery in back and use it for Starlink and occasionally cooking or powering larger devices, I also use it to plug those items in. If I'm in back watching a movie on my MacBook and there's an AC port right there, it's just convenient to plug into it instead of running a cord underneath me to the USB-C port on the car. Plus it charges faster. I'd say unless you're someone who is planning to use a Starlink or cook a lot with power hungry devices like an Airfryer, buying a Jackery is probably overkill. I like that I can cook with it and have it power Starlink and then plug in the solar panels and charge it right back up in a day. Again, probably overkill for most people, but they do sell many sizes of portable power stations so the large one isn't totally needed. I only have the 1500 because I knew I wanted to use an Airfryer and electric burner that both draw between 1000-1500 watts. Hope that helps explain it. Thanks for watching!
Eventually, Starlink should shrink the satellite dish to a palm sized attachment to your phone so that you take it anywhere without having to lug a big piece of metal.
Are you not afraid someone steals your starlink when you have it set up over night? Out there alone? You are brave, man! Btw I zhink it is a big shame that Tesla does not offer V2L, because that would be great eg for Starlink etc to plug it into the charging port, no? Regarding the closed road: do you have snow chains? Here it is compulsory in the mountains in certain conditions and I got me some (only needs two on the rear axle). With those, might have been possible. Such a pity. Looked amazing.
The cord into the Starlink can’t be removed (at least not easily) so I would hear someone if they tried to take it. Whenever I would leave I would put it inside. I do usually use a couple of bungee cords to hold it down or for heavy winds. As for the road… chains may have helped, but this was probably beyond what the Model Y could handle.
Thought I saw some post from you this morning that said using our REI 20% coupon code and the gearbox for Yakima? But it was early in the morning, I woke up and I saw your post but no video. but can’t find your link info. Can you assist please great video by the way love it🤙🏽
Yep. I did a Community Post alerting everyone of the sale. You can view that on the Community Tab of my channel here: www.youtube.com/@bryanhauer/community
watching your camping vlog felt like being right there with you! The way you captured the details of the nature and surroundings was impressive. Keep up the good work! Like and support from Hyderabad.
Thank you 😊 The cord can’t be removed (at least not easily) so I would hear someone, but I also use bungee cords to hold it down so it couldn’t be stolen easily as they’d have to take off the bungee cords and cut the power cord without me hearing it. If I would leave for a hike or anything like that I would out it inside.
@@GregySVK Yeah the head of their affiliate team did reach out to me yesterday to alert me that the MegaMat Auto is not widely available currently outside the US, but they hope to offer it at some point in the future. They did tell me to have any international customers contact info@exped.com for more information on any chance of getting it at a local retailer.
They are usually, but the one I used for a while only used 700watts which is less than most induction tops, plus I would have had to buy new cookware as mine wouldn’t have worked.
@@bryanhauer oh, cool. and you have the 20 inch tires on it? If you had to choose between the 2023 long range or performance, which would you personally go with? I'm considering trading in my Subaru Outback for one. 🙂
Thanks Allen! Yes I have the RV subscription which is now $150/mo, but I pause it when there’s months like this one (I’m in Europe) so I don’t have to pay. I usually get speeds around 50-150 Mbps. It’s been great for me. Especially when I’m traveling out west where it’s wide open and few obstacles like trees.
No problems at all. Can still see fine and after a few times I got the hang of it when backing into a Supercharger and it will work on all of them. I showed some video of backing into one in this video here: ruclips.net/video/uksUjlU5bjk/видео.html
Great so far. No visual scratches, dents or issues after using it for a few thousand miles. I've even bumped it a few times when backing into a Supercharger and you couldn't even tell. I've been loving it so far 👍🏻 It's also been super easy to just take off and store after each trip.
Yes. Just showing the parking sensors are picking up the cargo box. You can turn on Tow Mode and they'll go away, but I like to use Autopilot which you can't in tow mode, so I just ignore them.
Less than 5% range loss and no issues with handling. Also swings out so easy to get in and out of the back. It’s one of my favorite lieu of camping gear 👍
@bryanhauer awesome, I don't like putting anything on the roof cause of range impact, and all our trips, we have long mountain passes....but Thanx to Tesla, I've never worried being at 10% arrival, vs CCS
Yep. You put in the desired address which could be across town or across the country and the car will tell you when to stop at each Supercharger and for how long. You'll get a notification in car and via the app as soon as your car has enough charge to get to the next one. I always suggest sticking around an extra 5 minutes, but otherwise you're good to go.
You bet! I also did a charging video a while back which details it all. You can view it here: ruclips.net/video/qBryyb65AIU/видео.htmlsi=444kSsNGq2B3lzQo I also have a lot of travel videos on my channel and you can see it in action. Thanks for watching!
I use both of these. The first one is what I now use and is made specifically for the Model Y and is shaped to fit perfectly into the sub-trunk. The second is the one I used to use and works great inside the car as well as outside. Both are great options! ○ ACO Portable Electric Fridge/Freezer for Model Y/3: geni.us/HNuu7 ○ ICECO Portable Electric Fridge/Freezer: geni.us/jZCIH
I haven't. I try to keep my temp around 67 or 68 F at night and it's been fine. I suppose it also depends on where you're camping. Maybe try a small portable humidifier from Amazon. I see some on there that only use a few watts.
Not sure as this video was a while ago, but generally Camp Mode uses a little less than 1% per hour. There was a Supercharger about 15 minutes away from this camp spot so could have camped multiple days if needed before recharging.
Hey John - I'm usually getting around 100 Mbps. Starlink has been great so far and definitely makes it safer and more enjoyable when out camping. I never have to worry about not being able to get in touch with someone or being stranded, plus it's just nice to be able to FaceTime with someone or connect my laptop or car to it and stream movies at night before bed. I highly recommend it! 👍🏻
curious if the cargo box messes with autopilot? i had a bike rack on my Y but autopilot started seriously messing up.. had to remove it to get it to behave.. wondering if your box affects anything with that?
ahh , got it.. good deal , my rack/bike almost completely blocked camera.. on the display it would show what it thought was a truck close on my tail and then would try to take some scary “evasive action” by veering sharply to the right.. so no rack for me for now.. i love autopilot too much.. glad the box works out!
You do. I use 1 inch wood block spacers with velcro to provide airflow which works great and can leave it on for weeks at a time if needed. You can see how I did it in my review of the fridge: ruclips.net/video/MMZaqy_qGZk/видео.htmlsi=g4dBbWzbPgxxZUNn All links to items in the video are in the description below each video. Hope that helps!
Thanks! No spare tire. No where in the Model Y for it to really go that I can see. Luckily have never needed one. I do have an air compressor with tire repair sealant as well as the highest AAA membership which includes a tow of up to 200 miles and 3 more up to 100 miles.
Just a larger version. Both are great, but if you need the extra room or want to be a bit higher up, it's the better option. Also, I do a lot of road trips and camping so the Model Y is a much better choice for that due to the extra room and way the back is setup.
Hi, do you run Starlink cable right out the back with the door closed? Do you find this to be fine with the cable, like does it get crushed or anything or let the air seal of the door let in cold air?
Yep, the rear hatch closes fine. I usually put a piece of black gorilla tape around the cord to protect it a bit. You can see it in action in a different video here: ruclips.net/video/VNytMmUXJSg/видео.htmlsi=PTeEkJneNH4QUjb1&t=1547 To see it actually close you can jump to this part: ruclips.net/video/VNytMmUXJSg/видео.htmlsi=Q2Di3C0nZu5OKaXI&t=2091
I put a little gorilla tape around the part I want to close on to protect it and just force it shut on the hatchback. Never had an issue. You can see me do this here: ruclips.net/video/VNytMmUXJSg/видео.htmlsi=6G7gGesanU8iw0qF&t=1546
There’s no bears around this area in winter and none that I’d be worried about inside a car with no handles 😀 Now, in Grizzly Bear Country like my Yellowstone or Grand Teton videos… I agree and put my food and fridge in a Bear Box. 👍
@@bryanhauer I see from your videos that you know what you're doing! In case you're still on 395, I know that some people like the mountain range to the east. I believe it's called the White mountains. I mention it because it's in the snow shadow of the Sierras, so the snowline will be much higher. I never went up there myself cuz it looked too hot and dry in the summer. It will still be cold at night though.
Yep and I can charge up at home for about $7 😀 I remember when gas was about $7.50/gallon in Vegas last year and everyone was freaking out cause it was costing them close to $100 to fill up. It definitely saved me quite a bit. Now I pay nothing even for Supercharging as I have enough referral credits to last many years. 👍🏻
Now that Tesla is going to open less than 20% of its superchargers to non-tesla EVs.... My prediction is that the non-tesla EV network is going to get even worse ! IF that is even possible. WHY: Because as they already do not service anything well... They will be even making less money now with Tesla competing 😂
@@bryanhauer As a Tesla shareholder I am thrilled Tesla is the next Exxon-Mobile... As a Tesla owner/driver... I hope Tesla LIMITS the non-tesla superchargers to the "less than 20%" Tesla claims it is going to open up...
@@NaughtyGoatFarm YES, I appreciate your logic from my shareholder perspective too... Im in for 300K+ However IMO there needs to be some remaining "cache' of Tesla only superchargers... Hopefully there will be a "fit" if TESLA build enough superchargers... ALSO, perhaps an elitist opinion, but I get stressed enough when a Tesla EV is backing up next to me while supercharging.... I DONT WANT a moron who would buy a ford or even a Rivian backing up near me as IMO they have demonstrated poor judgment... BUT, my guess is Rivian, and even FORD will fail, so perhaps those worries are "unfounded.." 😊 It will just be BYD owners pulling up next to me...

Would love to see your dishwashing arrangement
Mine is pretty simple now. I used to have a small expandable sink, but rarely used it so now I just run water from my 7 gallon jug and use dish soap or if camping in nature use environmentally safe soap. I also use food grade wipes to finish cleaning dishes off which you can get here on Amazon: geni.us/UloZ
Mount Whitney looks absolutely stunning! Would love to know more about the Starlink Usage as I am considering getting one as I live in my Tesla!
Yeah it was gorgeous! I hope to go back this summer and see how different it is vs the winter. I've done a few videos on Starlink and an initial review so just check my channel page for those. Thanks for watching!
@@bryanhauer will do! Thanks for sharing!
Absolutely amazing work my friend. These shots are beyond incredible, what a fantastic upload!
Ahhh, thanks 🙏
Not as good as your shots 😀 You've got some great ones 👍🏻
Here's a quick clip from my review of the box where I show what it looks like when in reverse: ruclips.net/video/uksUjlU5bjk/видео.html
As for the fridge...
Thank you 🙏 I have a water jug with soap, hand sanitizer and food wipes as options.

Wow, those views, going to head out west in summer and definitely adding Mt Whitney to the list. Thanks for another great video Bryan.
Yeah those were some pretty epic views. I'm also interested to revisit the area in the summer. It was beautiful around there.
Great video Bryan. Epic camping location. Thanks

At that point it'll just be inside the phone.
Great video Bryan!
Glad you enjoyed it! 😀

About 43k miles and about 7% degradation. Currently about 304 miles listed at 100%. Appreciate you watching 😀

Awesome! Thank you! 😀
Another great Video Bryan. Curious how you feel about leaving the starlink out all night? Are there issues with these things being stolen?
Thank you 😊 The cord can’t be removed (at least not easily) so I would hear someone, but I also use bungee cords to hold it down so it couldn’t be stolen easily as they’d have to take off the bungee cords and cut the power cord without me hearing it. If I would leave for a hike or anything like that I would out it inside.

I'm told that induction cooktops use less energy.
They are usually, but the one I used for a while only used 700watts which is less than most induction tops, plus I would have had to buy new cookware as mine wouldn’t have worked.

If you had to choose between the 2023 long range or performance, which would you personally go with? I'm considering trading in my Subaru Outback for one. 🙂
Do you have the new Statlink "RV" subscription? What speed do you get? Nice report.

What about vision in the rear view camera? and space backing into Tesla Superchargers?
No problems at all. Can still see fine and after a few times I got the hang of it when backing into a Supercharger and it will work on all of them. I showed some video of backing into one in this video here: ruclips.net/video/uksUjlU5bjk/видео.html
Nice video, I am really enjoying content 🙂
Ahh thanks 🙏 😀
How have the Swingbase and Gearlocker held up to road debris and the elements?
Great so far. No visual scratches, dents or issues after using it for a few thousand miles. I've even bumped it a few times when backing into a Supercharger and you couldn't even tell. I've been loving it so far 👍🏻 It's also been super easy to just take off and store after each trip.
What does that red and yellow line mean on the back of the car on the screen? Is it indicating the tow box?
Yes. Just showing the parking sensors are picking up the cargo box. You can turn on Tow Mode and they'll go away, but I like to use Autopilot which you can't in tow mode, so I just ignore them.
Hows that mounted case working/effecting range and handling, also getting in and out of the tesla while you're in the back
Less than 5% range loss and no issues with handling.
Guess I could have watched before asking hahaha
@@bryanhauerdo you still like the jackery, or time to try something else?
I've been using the DJI Power 1000 and it's been great. Feels a bit higher quality and is less expensive: geni.us/TJrIr4
So how does it work? You set your course and then it will automatically tell where the superchargers are?
@@bryanhauer awesome! Thank you!

Just ordered my model y but didn’t select the tow hitch option. Are you using the factory one or third party?
Factory.
Brian what cooler model do you have?
I use both of these. The first one is what I now use and is made specifically for the Model Y and is shaped to fit perfectly into the sub-trunk. The second is the one I used to use and works great inside the car as well as outside. Both are great options!

hey. do you ever find it gets too dry with the heater on? i woke up with super dry eyes and throat. i thought of using a usb humidifier. any tips?
I haven't. I try to keep my temp around 67 or 68 F at night and it's been fine. I suppose it also depends on where you're camping. Maybe try a small portable humidifier from Amazon. I see some on there that only use a few watts.
whats the battery percentage in the morning before you left? i mean the day ago before you slept its 66%
Not sure as this video was a while ago, but generally Camp Mode uses a little less than 1% per hour. There was a Supercharger about 15 minutes away from this camp spot so could have camped multiple days if needed before recharging.
Just curious what kinds of speed you're getting on starlink?
Hey John - I'm usually getting around 100 Mbps. Starlink has been great so far and definitely makes it safer and more enjoyable when out camping. I never have to worry about not being able to get in touch with someone or being stranded, plus it's just nice to be able to FaceTime with someone or connect my laptop or car to it and stream movies at night before bed. I highly recommend it! 👍🏻
curious if the cargo box messes with autopilot? i had a bike rack on my Y but autopilot started seriously messing up.. had to remove it to get it to behave.. wondering if your box affects anything with that?
No issues with Autopilot, doesn't block the license plate at all and can still see mostly to back up into Superchargers 👍🏻
ahh , got it.. good deal , my rack/bike almost completely blocked camera.. on the display it would show what it thought was a truck close on my tail and then would try to take some scary “evasive action” by veering sharply to the right.. so no rack for me for now.. i love autopilot too much.. glad the box works out!
Do you have to give airflow to the fridge that's stored underneath? If so, how do you do that?
You do. I use 1 inch wood block spacers with velcro to provide airflow which works great and can leave it on for weeks at a time if needed. You can see how I did it in my review of the fridge: ruclips.net/video/MMZaqy_qGZk/видео.htmlsi=g4dBbWzbPgxxZUNn

Thanks! No spare tire. No where in the Model Y for it to really go that I can see. Luckily have never needed one. I do have an air compressor with tire repair sealant as well as the highest AAA membership which includes a tow of up to 200 miles and 3 more up to 100 miles.
Is the model Y better than the 3?
Just a larger version. Both are great, but if you need the extra room or want to be a bit higher up, it's the better option. Also, I do a lot of road trips and camping so the Model Y is a much better choice for that due to the extra room and way the back is setup.
Hi, do you run Starlink cable right out the back with the door closed? Do you find this to be fine with the cable, like does it get crushed or anything or let the air seal of the door let in cold air?
Yep, the rear hatch closes fine. I usually put a piece of black gorilla tape around the cord to protect it a bit. You can see it in action in a different video here: ruclips.net/video/VNytMmUXJSg/видео.htmlsi=PTeEkJneNH4QUjb1&t=1547

Now that Tesla is going to open less than 20% of its superchargers to non-tesla EVs.... My prediction is that the non-tesla EV network is going to get even worse ! IF that is even possible. WHY: Because as they already do not service anything well... They will be even making less money now with Tesla competing 😂
Completely agree 👍 They’re a mess and I don’t see the 3rd parties getting any better any time soon.
